G&H Painting

Overall, it went very well. The crew did a thorough job on the prep work. Gary also worked with us on changing the paint scheme at the last minute when my wife didn't like the initial colors we picked. I would not hesitate to use G&H Painting again for future paint jobs. I would recommend Gary teaming with a designer to help with the color choices. It was overwhelming to be given hundreds of color choices in the beginning and decide on the permanent color for the house. It would have been helpful to have a designer help us coordinate and choose colors for our house. We didn't like our first choice once it was on the house. So we had to pay to have it changed. But it was worth it in the end. We are happy with the final look.

These guys were terrific from start to finish. Diligent, careful, respectful cleaan.. you name it!

It went fine. The two painters arrived, identified themselves and I showed them what I wanted done. I had communicated my list of items to paint in e-mails prior to their arrival. Since I usually am the one that paints my interiors, I had all of the patching and priming done for them. I had also removed all of the impediments, such as towel rods, cabinets, etc. from the walls. I had removed the frames from the can lighting for the ceiling area. All they really had to do was move furniture, and cover things to save them from splatters - and of course, paint. I was informed before they began that after four hours, there would be an hourly fee charged for any overtime since I bought the deal for eight hours of labor. They both prepped the family room and when it was time to paint the ceiling, the second person moved to the bathroom. Things went smoothly. I did point out a couple places on the ceiling near the bases of our ceiling fans that had been missed and he touched them up right away. I don't know if there would have been a final check, so he may have caught it himself. They finished within the four hours and left everything clean. I was disappointed that they did not bring a sprayer with them, so I could not get my door painted. It is a metal door and it would have left brush strokes. I did appreciate the honesty that rolling it or brushing it would not have looked right. I graded overall a B for the lack of sprayer and having to wait about a month before getting the service. I understand that there was probably a big response to the deal offered and that was the soonest I could get the work done, but I am used to getting things done sooner with other Angie's List deals.

Two painters came on time. Big deal $199 covers 4 hours for 2 painters. It took longer than I thought because they removed existing paint and applied primer before painting. I had to ask for more hours to paint as much as possible. I paid for 3 extra hours. They needed more hours to complete the job, so I made another appointment. They (same painters) came today (Nov 17) on time and spent 6 hours to complete this job. They patched all holes, minor damages, termite damages (I did termite treatment recently) before applying paint. I am very pleased with the result.

Gary and his partner showed up on time, with smiles on their faces and ready to work. They sat down with me to get the entire scope of work and expectations. Given the size of the room, they estimated the time needed to complete the work would be about two hours more than the original Angie's List deal covered, and that was completely agreeable to me (I like a service provider who discusses the job PRIOR to starting it, instead of hitting you with the "add ons" at the end). The men were meticulous, clean and just great guys. By the time they were done, my living room was ready to paint and they even gave me some great pointers on getting to the harder to reach spaces. I immediately booked Gary to come back and do another project for me, which is almost complete and looks amazing. I would highly recommend Gary and his crew for any paint, prep or patch job you have.

I bought an Angie's Deal for 8 hours of labor from G&H painting. It ended up being four hours with two painters -- same thing and faster for me, so I was all about it! Garry's team was just fabulous. On time, super polite and professional, and best of all: extremely hard workers. The painters arrived at 9 am on the dot. The head painter informed me that it would be no problem at all to get two coats of paint done in the room within four hours. This was all I expected them to get done, but when I went up at 1 pm, they had actually done all of the baseboard trim, window trim, and doors too! Bonus!! I was so pleased with how fast they worked. The paint dried later that day and every single wall is perfect: clean crisp lines and absolutely no visible roller marks on the walls. Oh, and they left the room perfectly spotless as well. A+ job. Garry can be a little short and to-the-point in his correspondence, but I think he's probably just busy. Overall, I really appreciated the service, thought they did a great job, and would hire Garry's team again in a heartbeat.

The paint job went well and our family love the results. Also, feel free to ask Gary for suggestions on color, design and different products. Great job.

I highly recommend G & H Painting for anyone that needs help in the painting department. They arrived on time and were very considerate about our needs. He had this attitude that he didn't need anymore work. Then he wouldn't even look up my info. He told me to only contact me through email. Which I had already done. He told me to go through his website only not Angie's List. Then he never contacted me back.

G&H was a little late, but considering the traffic from his point of origin, pretty close to on line. They were meticulous in their work and left our place spotless, without even a trace that they were hear - except for an excellent painting job. Great work!

Went very well. The two painters were very friendly and explained what they were doing and how long it might take. We decided to go beyond the initiate 4 purchased hours for an additional 2 to finish everything. The painters were able to stay and did a great job.

Expected would complete in one 8-hour session. However, upon closer inspection of area, realized considerable repairs and prepping was necessary, which would go beyond what painters would typically handle. Therefore have decided to have carpenter/painter team handle the balcony. G&H was responsive and professional in handling this request.

I had to ask the worker to leave. Richard did not want nor did he do the job I had asked him to do. He complained when I showed him the rooms, (bedroom & bathroom) to be painted- said it was too much work. it's a newer house so walls are in good shape and don't require any repair work. Rooms are not large. I had painted the bedroom myself in about 2hrs. I asked him to paint a stripe on 1 wall he became very upset said he doesn't do that and it would cost more money. (?) Told him ad says 8 hrs of painting. I could see where faux painting may be an issue but a making a stripe only requires using another color and blocking it off with tape. Richard asked me to do it. I am not a professional painter. He told me I didn't have enough paint to do 2 coats. I believed I had since I had painted that room before but no problem I told him I would get more. Asked him to prime the walls while I get more paint. I had a friend over while I was gone who informed me that about an hr after I had left Richard came downstairs and started complaining telling him his life story. I returned to find very little had been done, only the 3 small test areas had been primed and the bathroom had not been touched.Richard said he needed to let the walls dry so he was going to lunch. A better use of time would have been to prime the bathroom, then go to lunch & allow it to dry while he painted the bedroom. However, when he left he called his boss Gary (or Greg) to complain about the job. Richard returned from lunch telling me he wasn't going to do the job I asked him to do.He said he had talked to Gary, and he will be just paint the walls. I called Gary to ascertain what the problem was - he told me I didn't tell him I wanted a stripe . Informed him he never asked for any details greater than the general info I had provided and if he had limitations he should have disclosed them in his ad. Gary then complained that Angie's List wouldn't allow him to do that. I know that is not 100% accurate . I told him even if that were true he had ample opportunities to find out more about the job as he had emailed me several times telling me how much it would cost if I went over time ($45 per hr / per worker) and that it would take 8 hrs to paint 1 room. Gary provided this estimate without even seeing the room or getting the dimensions.Gary offered to paint the stripe to resolve the issue by painting the wall with the stripe himself. Richard was to work 6hrs in total and he would work the other 2 hrs. Gary told me he didn't know what time he could come, he was too busy,he had to get tires, run errands and had other jobs. Asked him to provide an actual date & time he could come. I can't just sit home waiting to see if he will come that day. He agreed and said he would get back to me. I then told Richard what Gary had said regarding the hrs. Richard told me that he was going to work the 8hrs and/or would leave when he finished painting. Repeated what Gary had said. Richard again began to tell me what he was going to do and repeatedly asked me what color I wanted the wall painted. I became frustrated and asked him to leave. At that point he stomped up my stairs like a 2 yr old. I had to run behind him to ensure he didn't try to damage my belonging. I asked him to just get his things and leave he told me to stop taking. Then he had what appeared to be a mental breakdown ranting I quit, I quit ,he hated his boss, he hates his job and he doesn't like people. I calmly helped him carry his things out and told him to call his boss. I called Gary after he left and told him what had occurred his reply was anyone can have a bad day and how much other people liked him. What I witnessed was very sad not someone just having a bad day. Surprisingly Gary started complaining saying that the job was too far, Angie's List sold 50 jobs and that was too many and they limit what he could say. Informed him as a business professional he must know that this type of behavior is unacceptable. No reply to that statement. Gary offered to send out another painter and would get back to me with a date and time. However, to date I have not heard from him.

The provider's helper arrived late. In my day, this would be considered rude and disrespectful. When he finally arrived, he wanted to chit-chat about meaningless issues. Then the provider came to my home announced stating he needed to talk to his helper. Talk to his helper on my time and dime...unbelievable!! Then he proceeds to address me by my first name...again unbelievable!! Then he proceeds to tell me he is the boss...ok enough! I responded to his last statement with, "I am the homeowner." He shut his indignant mouth. The job ended late of course because the helper started late. I checked the job and it looked great but in a couple of days, the white fence started to fade and bleed. I contacted the provider and explained my issue via email. He telephoned me and said it was the primer's fault. I knew at that moment that he had no intention of correcting the problem. There are two types of business owners. First, there is the owner who is good at staying afloat but somehow failed to exercise customer relations skills. This type of owner will get one-time jobs...no return calls. Then there is the great business owner. This owner values his workers, customers and business. The owner will do whatever it takes to have customers' loyalty. The greatness of his or her company multiplies because customers want integrity and quality work. I would say this provider is good at what he does as long as he has no intention of ever becoming great! It is easy to get an initial contract with little profit gain, but it is more difficult to get a contract when you perform sub-standard work. Will I use this provider again? No! Will I recommend this provider to my senior friends? I think not!

UPDATE: I needed to hire another painter to correct the painting job done by G&H. Garry is very rude and was never at my house to see the job done. I did inspect the job when Richard was finished and told them that it was blotchy. When i called Garry to ask him to correct the situation, he refused. I never said I wasn't willing to pay him to fix it but I think when a painter gets paint on the window (in the middle of the sill not along the edge), toilet, sink and door trim splatter, they should fix it. And for the record, when someone is that rude to me, I don't choose to continue the conversation. I ended our conversation by saying "okay, goodbye." I've attached pictures showing the quality of work. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Well.... First let me say that the guys that came out to do the work were very nice, very polite and arrived on time. Unfortunately that's where it ended. As they were finishing, I mentioned to them that the bathroom walls looks blotchy. He assured me that once it dried, it would even out. Okay that makes sense. That's typical I know. I noted that the one painting the bathroom (Richard) unscrewed the light bulbs to take off the shades so he was painting in very dim lighting. He could have put the bulbs back in so he could have much more light but didn't because he said that he could see. I said, "it's pretty dark in there". He said "it's fine, it's dark paint, I can see." Once the paint was dry however, it's still very blotchy. Lots of white spots where they didn't cover the primer. Blue paint on my white ceiling and blue paint on my vinyl window sills. I called the owner, Gary, because it says on the bottom of my Angie's List "Deal" that there's a 30-Day Guarantee. My expectations would be that a professional company would stand behind their work. I asked Gary if they could come by and fix these small issues, noting that it would probably take them less than 30 minutes. He RUDELY replied "No", stating that he's sold so many of these Angie's List Deals that he's bouncing all over and wouldn't come back. This shocked me because -- to me -- the whole idea of these Angie's Promotional Deals is to build up your client base. To introduce your services to new customers. We actually have quite a bit more painting and felt this was a good way to determine their quality and service. Unfortunately Gary's rudeness and unwillingness to stand behind his work has convinced us to go elsewhere. (His workmen even gave me a business card and postcard. So obviously they want more work, however Gary's response seems to be working against that goal. In his own words, they have too much work already.) My advice to potential customers is.... don't use this company. And if you have already bought an Angie's List Deal, make sure you exam the work very, very carefully before they leave.

I purchased and got an amazing Angie's List deal, and great work, from Richard at G&H Painting! Richard did EVERYTHING in one 8-hour day. He painted one wall in the living room, one full wall and touch-ups all over the Master Bath and touch-ups in the Guest Bath. He also stained a 9 foot-high, outdoor wooden wall and two-sided gate. There were two different paint colors and one stain. Richard prepped and protected everything. Great work!

They were very nice and professional but unfortunately were not able to work with my timeframe needs.

AMAZING! These guys were on time, prompt and worked hard the entire eight hours they were here. They were also really nice and polite. Loved this company and will definitely be working with them in the future for any painting needs.

My brother and I were selling our parents' house and needed to improve the curb appeal and brighten up the interior. Garry the owner, is very knowledgable, professional and personable. He started work immediately and worked almost every day until the job was done. His crew was courteous and easy to talk to. What I liked about Garry, was that he showed up often to supervise the work and check the progress. I never felt abandoned and I had confidence the job was being done right. There was a lot of prep work including repatching stucco and sanding off old oil-based paint and they did a very thorough job. Any additional work that had to be done was fairly priced and there was little cost overrun. The hardwood floors looked terrific. The house was very clean when they left. I liked working with a contractor who was able to do all of the work we needed; he also gave me some professional insight into color choices and I was extremely pleased with how it all turned out. When he finished the job, I gave him a hug. A first for me and one well-deserved. I highly recommend G&H Painting.

I have used G&H once before, and was very pleased. Of course, made sense to call him again. It is nice to have a vendor that knows you by name, remembers your house and that you can trust. I had a kitchen island removed, and needed some baseboards installed where the island used to be. I also had lots of chips, scuffs and damage to many baseboards in the house. After a couple of years, of course, right? Anyway, my wife and I were done with the front door jamming too. The weather stripping was old, the door wouldn't lock correctly, just frustrating. I tried several fixes myself, but couldn't get it quite right. G&H gave me a quote for everything and performed the work the next week. His crew sanded the baseboards, repaired the holes and chips and patched the missing sections. Removed the old weather stripping, aligned the door, installed new weather sealer and painted the frame. Couldn't be happier.
