G&H Painting

Pretty good service once finally time set. Setting time was a bit confusing - but finally we got service provider to come at the agreed time. I should have had more done but wasn't sure when I set this service up - how it would work. Now that I've seen the process I probably will have more work done by these folks.

Robert and Jesse showed up on time and were polite. We spoke about the job, taping and mudding the drywall in my garage. Robert estimated they would most likely be able to put 2 coats of mud on the walls depending on how long it took for the mud to dry. He and Jesse worked for 3 hours and were not able to put the first coat of mud over the tape in that amount of time. They left the top half of each corner taped with no mud. I'm disappointed that G&H wasnt able to complete even half the work Robert said he could do. However, given the price of the 'big deal' I guess I got what I paid for. I spoke with Gary the next day and discussed the issue. He was understanding but since he wasn't there he really couldn't tell me why 2 guys couldn't mud tape in 3 hours.

Response to the provider: 4/3/15 It is very unfortunate that your answer doesn't address professionally any of the complains. You make jokes, talk about my wording, say I am confusing, justify being late but don't address that 6 hours wasn't enough to sand and paint a kitchen ceiling as you were hired to do. This is not a $1,000 job. In my opinion a good and professional would have taken my criticism as a learning tool. Would have addressed the issues and tried to make it right. I deal with customers all day and I never take lightly when a customer is not satisfied. Yes, you cannot please everyone, but you should always try your best . Your answer doesn't accomplish much other than show you don't take it seriously enough. Rather than make fun of what I wrote you should be worried about how could you fix it. If nothing else, let the next bad review make you think twice before answering this way. Disappointing. I really need to learn not to hire by hour as most of the people we hire by hour does the work on "turtle mode". The person that came to do the job according to him was the owner brother. He arrived about 30 minutes late which at first wasn't a big deal to me. He took his time discussing convenient parking spots, than look at the 2 possible jobs. My priority was the kitchen ceiling but if he had time I had a small second job. 1- kitchen ceiling (sand and paint), 2- furnace closet patch and paint. He said he could do both while small closet dried he would prep and sand kitchen ceiling. He started by slowly unloading his tools from the truck with lots of talking and mentioned he didn't have the plastic material to wrap the kitchen to sand the ceiling. He slowly removed the recessed lights from the kitchen and then we had to go to home depot buy plastic. Finally almost 3 hours later he stated actually working for 2 hours straight , slowly but straight, and then said he wouldn't be able to finish (even though the six hours weren't over) because not all the patches were dried yet. Given that it took 3 hours to start patching of course it didn't dry. I was already unhappy with all that was happening thus far as at least the kitchen ceiling should be done in 6 hours. I asked if he could come in for another hour or so the next day since no job was close to completion. He counted his hours as if he had arrived on time and said that unloading the material and then cleaning the material after the job and reloading his car are counting as part of the 6 hours and he had spoken to his brother about it and he could not come back unless I purchase another 6 hours. So 6 hours got me a half prep kitchen and half furnace closet done which was not a priority or needed in the first place if there was no time. I was left with an unusable kitchen all wrapped up with no light with half sand ceiling and a furnace closet incomplete. Basically I will have to hire a company to actually do the job. It was a complete waste of $199.

Painters arrived on time and wasted no time getting started. They were friendly and professional and did an excellent job in the agreed upon time frame. I will definitely use their service again.

A great job, very well done!! We needed drywall repair and had no idea of the cost, We decided to take advantage of Angie's Deal of the Day ($99 for four hours of work) and go from there. Garry of G&H contacted us shortly regarding our purchase and was always responsive to our communications in scheduling the work and ensuring that the drywall would be on hand. On the appointed day, Garry and his assistant were already at the job site when we arrived. They immediately went about their business--very neat and careful and respectful of their work area. When they were done, we truly felt we had a reall Deal of the Day. Thanks G&H! Thanks, Angie! We fully expected the job would cost more than the $99, but the final cost in no way reflects G&H's professionalism--their high quality of service and work.

I had a new fireplace installed and there was a few inches of "wall" missing around it. Aside from spackle splatter on the bricks, these guys did a good job for the short amount of time I had them for.

Painter was prompt, polite, and skilled. He worked quietly, cleanly, and quickly. Everything I wanted was accomplished. I would use this provider again!

His directions to prep the rooms was clear, and his turnaround on the task was incredibly quick. The rooms look great!

We're happy with the results. The ceiling is textured, which provided an additional challenge to make the patched area appear consistent.

I had bought a $99 deal which included two workers for 11/2 hours. The job took about 11/2 hours and turned out very well. I am completely satisfied with the result.

Gary and his crew did a wonderful job. The drywall over our stairway needed to be replaced because it was bulging. The result: flawless repair. I can't see any difference between this ceiling and the others in our home. G&H painted our entire downstairs including kitchen, stairwell and upstairs landing area; their work was impeccable. They replaced all the hinges and hardware in the kitchen as well. My kitchen looks like new, thanks to this detail that others we interviewed didn't even suggest. Paint and carpet were included in the price. The only thing we paid extra for was the new hinges. Everything else was the same as the estimate. The best thing about Gary's crew is that they worked extra hard moving furniture and boxes in preparation for the job. My husband and I are seniors with orthopedic problems, so could not do the heavy moving. The men were very pleasant and accommodating and worked hard without complaint. G&H worked within our tight time frame and completed all work on time. All in all, Gary and his crew were pleasant to be around and very careful in their work. I'm planning to hire G&H again in few months to paint and carpet the upstairs bedrooms and bath. I would (and have) recommend G&H to my friends and family.

The work went fine. It was professional looking and they cleaned up as they went. I was impressed enough that hired them to do a few more hours work taking care of some deferred maintenance in other areas ( this is a 1948 house we have occupied since 1973). Over all I was very satisfied with the work and the price. I know a little bit about residential and commercial repair pricing. I consider Angie's List a good resource for helping me find this good contractor. It was not a big job, but it is my house, the work was good and all went smoothly. Larry Brown

They called to let me know they would be able to come earlier than what we had agreed upon - the call was helpful. Both the boss and his assistant were polite, courteous and patient with my questions. We felt very comfortable with them in our home. There were some challenging repairs and they were handled expertly. They did go over the agreed upon time because the scope of the work dictated it, so we paid some extra money, however, this was OK with us because of the quality of work we were seeing and ultimately inspected. Anyone looking for this type of work should not hesitate to hire G&H Painting. In fact, we will be calling them back for a future project as soon as we are ready to take it on. If what they showed us in the drywall repair extend over to all the other types of work, we will surely consider them in the other categories the list. A good/great job done! Please consider them for you next project.

timely service and quality painting -good follow up and explanations of details

Was called back almost immediately to schedule the service. Everything looked great. Was professional and cleaned up after the work.

They did an excellent job. I will be using them again in the future.

Was told they'd show up between 8 and 9 AM but it was a little after 9 before they got there. We discussed the work that needed to be done and they got started. The deal was for 8 hours so 4 hours per painter. There was 1 more wall I'd like to have gotten done but there obviously was no time for it. Not in my current budget to pay $50/hour to let them stay and finish it. So it can wait for another time.

Everything went well, but the job took a little longer than I expected. Nonetheless, I am pleased that the painters took their time with the job. Both rooms look really nice.

Garry was helpful and came over to give me an estimate for the additional preparation work.

G&H Painting for very professional and responsive. From start to finish, I was very pleased with how thorough and detailed they were at making sure I was aware of the process, pricing, hours, flow, expectations. They arrived on time, if not actually a bit earlier than quoted, and were ready to get to work ASAP. Their crew helped prepare my loft for a new tenant moving in so they really considered all details and particular areas that I expressed needed some extra TLC. I was more than pleased with their work and they definitely finished the work in time that was quoted. All parties were pleased. I would recommend them again. Minor advice: If you are redeeming a Angie's List deal make sure you communicate this upfront so that G&H can accomodate those details as they also have various projects that are outside of the coupon deals. Small minor details that needed to be hashed out prior to discussing the project and labor needed. Thanks again G&H

The owner of the company showed up at my house after several poor phone communications and unreturned messages. He immediately launched into a tirade about how Angie's List customers have unrealistic expectations about what they can get for the money they pay for "deals". I assured him that I realized I could not get my entire house painted for $900, but that I wanted the house prepped for painting. He then quoted me a number 2x's higher than two other quotes I received, to paint the house as well. I told him we just wanted him to prep the house. This story is long, but I'll make it short - the prep work was incomplete and unsatisfactory. My husband had to go over all the work they did. It was literally like throwing money away. I would not use or recommend this vendor.

John and Jesse were conscientious and diligent as they painted. They covered counters, cabinets, etc. and taped off the trim. They painted with accuracy and there were no splotches or splatters anywhere. In addition, they cleaned up everything before they left. I was impressed with how quickly they worked while still being very careful. They even touched up areas in other rooms where I had painted but had left crooked lines. It was a pleasure doing business with G&H Painters and I will definitely use them again.

Had originally told them I wanted living room and one small bedroom painted. When he arrived, I said that I changed my mind and wanted the living room and some mirror doors painted. I had already purchased the special paint needed for them. While I was out of the room the painter called his boss about the change and when I cam back he informed me that the boss said not to do the doors and just do the rooms. I guess I had no say in the matter?? Painter did a pretty good job but got smudges of paint on wood floors and didn't clean any of it up. I'm still finding spots of paint on floors. Painter also talked way to much.

The painter that was sent to my house came in, introduced himself, and immediately asked to use the bathroom. When he came back out, he told me that I would need to go and pick up the materials for painting and that he'd meet me back at my place in about an hour. I told him I already had the materials and then he told me that he had to go get some breakfast and would be back in about an hour. He returned in about 30 minutes and I asked him to tape off the 1 room he would be painting. He did not tape or prep anything before painting. He actually got paint on some of my things and when I pointed it out to him, he was dismissive of any concerns.

They were fantastic. Very friendly, professional, and did a great job given the limited amount of time. I had to reschedule a couple of times and they were more than accommodating. I highly recommend them!
