The job went very well. The 2 painters were very professional and worked very quickly. There was no paint dripped on the floor or excess mess. There was a drawing in the window sill and I was asked if I wanted to keep it or paint over it. I would definitely use GM again.
Description of Work: I purchased the deal for 8 hours of painting. The communication was excellent for scheduling the visit. 2 painters showed up and worked very quickly. It seemed like the time went faster, but when I looked up they were done with the rooms I wanted painted.

Most of mine are "A" The lower grades are and can be a reflection upon the customer. there are times some people are not really anticipating any more work they just want a coupon. and they will only pay that, which is fine we usually fulfill our commitment to them but it seems they have a different agenda , like get the whole house painted or they contractor didn't do enough or not fast enough. It went GREAT! I was asked to provide the wallpaper-stripper, and 20 minute mud, just in case THEY also had problems with the plaster coming off with the paper, I would imagine. Turns out they didn't need the 'mud' at ALL, (I was able to return it for a refund!!), their work was THAT clean and good! I'm talking CLOTH wallpaper AND 1 or 2 coats of paint UNDER that; one being DARK turquoise in color!!! :-O They took it RIGHT down to the PLASTER, with NO gouges, or holes, etc.... It's ready to paint, though, because there's still more work to be done in the kitchen, I'm waiting to TAKE-ON that job. I JUST may call G & H when I'm ready :-D
Description of Work: G & H Painting removed VERY OLD cloth wallpaper for me; it had to be 30 years old! I had attempted it myself, when we FIRST moved into our home 20+ years ago, but EVEN after wetting, it was pulling our plaster from the wall!!! I then just LEFT IT. :-(

Did not ask many clarifying questions or come by to see job before work day, so they arrived without the proper equipment. Had to pay for them to drive 90 minutes to go get sprayer. Intended job was half done even with extra time and money, but would have been complete if better knowledge and preparation ahead of time. Oh well, lesson learned.

we did a walkthrough with the owner and explained that she needed to have texture I would have to go back and get the proper equipment. in the big deal it states that there would be an extra charge for the texture. I dont usually look at the job before because of the deal only being 199.00, that would really put me in the red with angie taking 30% so you have to wait for the texture to dry and I offered to come back. this review is a total surprise for someone who wanted the work complete. Her paying my time to go get my material cost gas and time. I don't know where someone would go and do that for free, do you? She is the one that wanted me to go get it, I did what she wanted , she was a very pleasant person to work for.

Thank you for the response, first when we went over to the house the ceiling was about 12x16 or so, there was drywall that was put up from the husband. But it was pieced together in about 40 different squares, he was trying to do it and then the wife calls me and tells me I don't think my husband knows what he is doing, so I said ok and when I went to see it, there was a mess of a patch , I could not even patch it , it was uneven and also had no structural support to hold up the drywall in many areas, so I told them ill take twenty for gas and they did. months went by he called again and yelled at me saying I criticized his work and was hurt because he just had a brain surgery so you know where this is all going it was a bad situation from the beginning and it was a job that only could of been competed by removing all the drywall on the ceiling that he put up and starting over. He did take it off from the ceiling as he stated on the phone on a second call and I said I cant sheet the whole ceiling in an hour and a half with tow guys so he went rambling on with all this stuff he said I did to him which was a losing game. I told him to get his money back because he said your either going to do it or not or you need to get my money back, so I told him call angielist. Man what a fiasco.! to much work just dealing with customers on this one. I should of got paid.

They advised me up front that it was not likely that they would be able to finish the entire job in the 8 hours provided by the Angie's deal and I agreed to pay the $65 per hour for additional hours needed. Their work was quite professional. They were quiet and unobtrusive while they were doing the work and cleaned up everything before they left.
Description of Work: Two painters painted my master bedroom, my walk in closet (with shelving) and my master bath (including cabinets). They also painted the baseboards in all three areas. The work included two colors for the walls and different kinds of paint for the bathroom.

I had some initial difficulty narrowing down when the painter would be coming and whether it was for 4 hrs or 8 hrs. I had requested a painter to paint exterior of storage room which had already been primed, paint one side of my BBQ counter which was recently repaired. I had 2 painters for 4 hours. After about 1.5 hours, one of them told me I was running out of paint and the second gallon of paint I had was flat, and not semi-gloss. So he made a recommendation to get another gallon from a local paint dealer, which I did. He said the price included time to clean up, so if I wanted them to start painting the BBQ area, it would cost additional $75/hr per person and it would take a minimum of 1 hr. I did not want to do that, so they left 30 min early. He was helpful in showing me how to re-install the storage room keyless pad when the paint dried.
Description of Work: Painted exterior of storage room and 2 adjoining posts with 2 coats of paint.

First I got a call in the morning to let me know they were on their way. They arrived, I showed them the room, and they got right to work. They kept me informed and had me come look at the progress from time to time. When it was finished, I got a call from the company. I told them I was interested in having additional work done (prime and paint the ceiling). They called me back almost immediately with a price, I agreed, the workers headed out to get the supplies, returned and again got right to work. They finished in late afternoon, did a great clean-up job and I was very pleased with everything.

We purchased 8 hours of painting using an Angie's List coupon. Two painters arrived and they completed 85% of the paint job in the four-hour, 9:00am-1:00pm, segment of time. The painters prepped and taped plastic to cover our cabinets; everything was cleaned up nicely when they were done. We ended up only having to finish painting the window trim and applying a second coat of paint to one wall that had new dry wall and mud on it. This experience was very positive for us as we are working through a big remodel job.

I have waited 48 hours from my initial phone call to the provider to find out when they were arriving to paint until now to write about my experience because I was so unnerved by the experience. I did not want to write from a raw emotional state. It was my understanding that my job would begin at 8:00 and end at noon. So I waited until 8:20 to call to determine if painters were indeed coming to work. Garry answered the phone and replied to my question in a defensive and abrupt manner that someone was on his way now and since he was coming all the way from Whittier it would take a while because traffic is often really bad on the 10 so he thought the guy wouldn't arrive until 9:00 but may be later secondary to traffic. So, now 2 big red flags! 1 guy is coming? Ad said 2 guys for 4 hrs each for a total of 8 hours of work TIME. This man argued with me and told me to read the deal because he claimsd the deal clearly stated either 2 painters for 4 hrs each or 1 painter for 8 hrs. Not true, but this man was adamant he was correct. Next, the hours. The last message I had from Garry was simply 8-12. Since 8/12/15 am was my 1st choice for an appt. I falsely assumed his message response meant 2 painters, 4 hrs each will paint on 8/12 from 8:00-12:00. So I took time off work to stay home until noon. So now, I press for detail so I can contact work to let them know when to expect me. Man says, well I'm coming to help but I have a doctor's appt and I'm way out here in Whittier and since the job is in WLA I will probably get there around noon. I asked why would you schedule a doctor's appt that would conflict with a work engagement? Why do I tell customers this background? When we hire someone to work for us it is only reasonable to expect respectful communication. I was stunned by the defensive-like verbal attack from this man. A young, very polite man arrived at 9:13 am. He explained that he was starting the job and because he had to leave early Gary would be coming later to finish up the job. Honestly, at this point I still am unclear when the 8 hours of painting time I bought would be up. So, I have to call work and say looks like I won't make it in. This young painter said he was sorry for the inconvenience. At nearly 11:30 this guy tells me that my baseboards either need oil based paint or need sanding to accept water based paint....so although he was ready to paint them he couldn't now until I bought the right paint. * this issue should have been identified as soon as painters arrived! Because this late identification resulted in work not getting done within the 8 hrs.* Immediately after I was asked to get paint I did. I was gone from the house for 20 mins. When I returned home Garry was there. I introduced myself and he pointe to my dining room and said, "nice setup". I then told him of my displeasure with not getting 2 painters 4 hrs each, that I missed work because of this and work hours that 1 worker arrived at 9:13 not 8:00. Then it got uglier! This man wanted to prove me wrong!!!!! He was still arguing about the ad and he pulled it up to prove to me I failed to read the ad when he saw I could actually read. He then called "Angie". He would not apologize to me for this error but he did tell me that he asked Angie to call me and apologize. He then went to battle on service hours and told me my messages had confused him. I asked him why, if he was confused did he not contact me to clear up his confusion. He said, he did because he wrote 8-12? And after he explained his side of the story I can see his interpretation because the work was set for August 12th in the am. Since we had agreed to doing the work on the 12 th I thought his response was 8-12 was for the work hours. Back in the day, when I went to school am ends at 11:59 so pm starts at noon or 12:00. He said that that was ridiculous that painters arrived in the am and that's what am means in scheduling...you start in e am and finish whenever. Again...verbal battles, I was ALWAYS wrong! He was confrontational, and extraordinarily disrespectful. He then launched into a dissertation that his guy had patched cracks and that was an extra charge and that I had not provided the necessary materials like tape, spackeling etc. I said I did which he still didn't believe until questioning the young painter who acknowledged that I had provided the necessary stuff. I am now in deep! I didn't want to screw the young man for the behavior of his bombastic, demeaning, disrespectful boss so I said that I didn't want to talk about any of this anymore and that I certainly wasn't paying for the time he was blasting me or calling "Angie". That really p***** him off. Since I felt like I was having a stroke totally aghast at his mistreatment and negative customer service I asked when the 8 hours would be up? I tried to get calm...I tried not to punish the 1st painter so I offered water, coffee, tea and gave them a bowl of cookies hoping to lift the ugly mood that invaded my home. I write this review for those of you who value customer service and open, honest communication. If those are unimportant to you I can say the quality of work showed competence. I gave the young painter a tip. The only tip I can honestly offer Garry is communicate, do it with respect for your customers, be polite and don't blame the customer for your drive from Whittier or the traffic! ..if it's too far don't take the job! Don't be so defensive until you have the facts! Your delivery is curt and rude as others have said recently. And delivery matters. When you arrive at a job you are a guest in the owners home! As a business owner or boss the buck stops with you. If you think "Angie" is running an ad incorrectly or the price you are charging for the deal is too little it's on you to verify that the ad is written correctly and that you charge enough money for your services so you don't resent your customers. So, you got paid and I have an incomplete paint job, a day without pay because of your carelessness and a nasty memory of my communication with you. This entire experience could become a training tape on Customer Disservice or How Not to treat a customer.

I have not had so many and I think she was having a bad day like how dare she have a bad day! lol. it was quit hilarious how she acted with me. you would think it was a major remodel but it was only a 8 hour project. Having communication and telling her about where I lived was communication. She just does not know it. she didn't pay me for the crack patch and didn't offer at all which was wrong and I knew how she was going to try to get over on me so she got a room with partial paint, have fun doing it yourself! im an "A" rated company with super service awards and don't have to please anyone but my own work as you can see we got an "A" She didn't want to sand any of her wood work because she was critical about the time lol, I think she was trying to squeeze a drop out of a turnip. She wanted me to apologize to her so you can see she wanted her ego stroked. How do you demand an apology? especially if you didn't do anything. The only tip you gave me was some cookies and bubbled water which was a highlight but didn't have any! The only spirit running around her house is her own murmuring , complain, faucet dripping critical spirit that she has she gets an "F" as a very bad customer hope she likes her grade. Now for my concerns for all upcoming customers read the deal call me with your concerns and lets get to work! Remember its a coupon your buying if you want real work call me and we can scope the job before you buy the deal this way you wont end up like our book writer and author on how to complain for your 199.00 deal!

Prior to service I wanted more information but had trouble reaching him by phone. The email correspondence was not very helpful. My final phone message to him was not to come until we could discuss the job. He called me when he was already on the way. I wasn't happy that I was expected to pick up supplies or that he would not guarantee a texture match and would in fact charge an extra $150 to even try. He agreed to make the supply run as a part of his 3 hr commitment and I accepted that there would be no texture match. He arrived 9:40 am, checked out the work to be done, went to get the supplies, returned and did a good job at basic patching and was finished by noon. I still have to find someone who can texture these spots before the job is really finished. The basic smooth patching I could have done myself, but I wanted to hire a professional because of the wall texture. Had he returned my calls in a timely fashion and confirmed that he would not be able to match texture, I would have canceled. In short, I was unhappy with the pre-work communication and disappointed that I still have to find someone to finish this, but he did what was agreed to in that last minute, already-on-the-way phone call.

When someone wants exact and doesn't want to pay because they don't want to pay anymore they can look for someone them selves. hes had patches in his home for six years he hasn't tended to. I advised him I could texture and the big deal states its more money, naturally some people are tight and don't want to pay us contractors for using our tools. If he wanted to do it himself he could of did it. Its strange how people come up with all kinds of jargon when you leave instead of telling you on the spot. I swept all his dog hair and cleaned up all his mess in his home out of courtesy, Please read the big deal future customers so you know your end of the bargain, the cheap price lures you into a dream that youlll get your whole house completed in a day!

Although they did not contact me within the 2 day time frame as promised and I agree with other reviews that the communication/e-mails back and forth could be friendlier and less curt, the workers who showed up were professional, courteous and did a terrific job. I received two workers for 3 hours each with a deal from Angie's list. It was money well spent. I would use this service again in the future.

He walked out on the job. Showed up angry and did not greet me once I opened the door,. Left numerous emails without him contacting me. This is something he wrote on YELP regarding Angies List customers: 9/3/2015 Thank you for your opinion, this site should not reflect any work done on angies list but there are some folks who love to tear people apart on the internet. Let me say this first most angies list customers want a whole house painted for 200.00 but im not going to mow through a job that needed a lot of prep. They bought time rather than calling me to give a bid and went a cheap route for 200.00 which angie takes 40% off the top thats the way they make their money. customer gets a F- in my opinion. NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL
Description of Work: The provider did not do anything. Showed up for 5 minutes. I wish I had read through the reviews on YELP and Angies List before trying to hire this lazy, angry and rude man. We recently purchased a six-hour painting "deal" from Angie's List from G&H Painting in Whittier for 2 bathrooms. Both bathrooms were small. One of the bathrooms only has a single sink and toilet which we had removed for him so that he wouldn't count the removal as part of his 8 hours. He avoided emails and phone calls for weeks to set up an appointment. I had to call Angies list twice to get him to communicate with me. Gary was EXTREMELY rude and angry from the moment he arrived to my home. I greeted him and he did not respond. I didn't say anything else and I waited at the door until he said "where's the job." He proceeded to ask me if I had all of the materials. I told him "how was I supposed to know what I needed if he had not seen the rooms to tell me what was going to have to be repaired" He rattled off what I was going to have to go buy. As he was talking to one the helpers I asked the other if he was always a jerk and this rude, and not surprising, he nodded yes. Gary asked if I had any questions and I said "NO". He proceeded to say WE ARE LEAVING. He walked out and didn't do the job. His workers were in no way rude. One of his workers acknowledged that he is rude to his customers. Gary thought he could bully a woman without any repercussions! HE WAS WRONG! I hope that other customers read through all of the negative comments, not only here but on YELP as well and find the pattern of ineptness from this bitter man. We all seem to have the same complaints! AVOID G & H PAINTING!!!

I let it go and said did you read the big deal you bought and she didn't. she wrote down a list of material and then I asked her if she had anything else to talk about the job and she yelled at me and said "not you" then I turned to my guys and said lets go and I told her were not working for you and I left. I take pride in what I do and woilll not allow any customer to disrespect me or my workers. Her house is the same way for the last 15 years terrible. I didn't think much of them. It was six hours of wallpaper removal and painting.The guy worked as thoroughly as he possibly could. He took an hour for lunch. He barely finished the wallpaper removal and didn't get hardly any painting done. He did a good enough job but he did it so slowly that he used up a whole six hours or five hours, you take the hour he spent eating lunch. He could've worked faster. The guy showed up, he didn't a steamer. He didn't have anything except the scraper.

Package I purchased did not include moving large furniture or removal or replacement of 3 cornices over windows. I only needed walls, ceiling and baseboards painted...no doors or windows or framing. Since I was able to get all these things done for a little less from my previous painter, I decided to cancel my Big Deal purchase. We had a little trouble connecting at first, but Garry came and looked at the job and was very nice and professional. With all the positive comments on Angie's List, I will definitely consider using him in the future.

she was a friendly lady and was retired. I gave her the best possible deal but she still was looking for a lower price. I actually went over gave her my best shot but could of gave me some money for gas or something. the big deals don't consist of estimate when your spending minimal, its a coupon that your buying better to call me direct and get exactly what you would like completed. Terrible, job wasn't finished I needed to hire someone else to finish the job,even after we paid them extra to complete the work.Parts painted not done properly old color showed through.Drops of paint found on the floor,my exhaust hose for our clothes dryer not reconnected properly,I had to reconnect it myself.

I guess they did pretty good. They didn't do what I expected. It wasn't what I thought Angie's List provided. They did the work on time. It took two or three weeks before they got out here. I had to keep calling and I didn't care for that. Two people came out and just messed around and didn't finish. The work wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either.

Garry was great! Very clean and efficient. He was also very cognizant of not trying to do additional work that would eat up the time that I had purchased through my Angie's List deal. I ended up having him stay two additional hours and I am very happy with the outcome.
Description of Work: Re-painted an area that had been repaired with new dry wall due to a slab leak. Also, painted my powder room.

It went great! G & H Painting arrived on time; they layed down tarps over the carpeting and hung plastic to protect the cabinets. They were very courteous and professional. They did a great job of applying the paint and had time for a second coat. It looks fabulous! They cleaned everything up when they were finished. Would definitely use them again.
