Mr. Shawn Winters of DWC was hired as the contractor. We were looking for a contractor that could be a great fit for my best friend whom is terminally ill & on Hospic Care who lives in one of the units of the building he was selected to remodel. He came across very caring of the situation we are facing & her wish before she passes to see this building remodeled to her taste & likings and Mr. Winters stated he can do just that as the GODLY man he states he is, but to our surprise Mr. Winters did just what GOD would not do as I am still disturbed by this to date. I am only writing this review because my HEART is disturbed that he is still a active contractor working with a license being a human and not a human being. One may feel that my emotions should not be apart of this review, but I beg to differ because our property, our homes where we live in is apart of who we are and most importantly a place we call home for our selfs & loved ones. When you invite these contractors such as Shawn Winters of DWC in to our homes to do work you all should expect nothing but the best and a contractor of choice you MUST TRUST, because when they are finished you have to live with it, YOUR HOME IS YOUR CASTLE.. Mr. Shawn Winters does not grasp the concept of that nor does he respect it. If you look on the California Contracting Licensing Board regarding Shawn Winters of DWC, he has Departed from Trade Standards, Exceeded Contract Amounts and Filed W/Registrar a FALSE Workers Comp. Exemption and this was not discovered nor posted until after Mr. Shawn Winters was hired to work for my best friend & I. If this was posted or I had knowledge of this Shawn would not have been considered, not even close. If you don't care enough about taking care of those working for him & the lack of respect of the dangers in this field, including the loss of life that has happened to some, I would of known he could'nt possibly care enough about my best friend whom is terminally ill. Greed moves some of these contractors & in my case GREED did just that, but GOD was on our side for sure when we started discovery Mr. Shawn Winters had taken over $50,000 & had not purchased a single piece of material for the job, but was sure to have paid himself over $16,000 in the first two or three weeks in which was not at all part of the contract or any contract for that matter. When he was pressed to give receipts, Mr. Winters either did not have any to show or they were forged, for example we as the customer were given six free sinks for the units bathrooms, Mr. Shawn Winters told us they were $150 per sink, to find out later they were free, who does that? Shawn Winters, your contractors are suppose to get you the best deals, this contractor only looks for the best deals for himself, not to benefit you the customer, that's for sure a contractor no one can trust. It had gotten worse, when the trust was out the door and the money could not be explained I needed to know where had spent my best friends money, mind you again she is terminally ill, so I decided to ask him what he was paying his Foreman & workers because he would not receive another draw until the total of about $63,000 was account for & to add that some of the workers were complaining to me they had not gotten paid or received partial pay, he stated that it was to emotional for him to tell us & me asking where the money had been spent was unheard of, even the request for receipts of materials purchased was unheard of. So he then when on to say that he would get us the receipts we requested and he would also sale his motorcycle to pay his employees, that was a bomb dropper being that he was given more than enough to pay everyone, but to our surprise Mr. Shawn Winters had paid himself more than his employee's when in fact he had done zero physical work on site, except help move a beam to the roof & cap of a pipe that busted in one of the units because the workers had no knowledge of plumbing and Mr. Winters was not on site so he was forced to come from HOME to fix it. It was also a surprise to my best friend and I he paid more to himself then was spent on the job at the time and to this date. Mind you I have capitalized HOME, because Mr. Shawn Winters stated he was a working contractor, in fact he does no work, his excuse later was he had a broken shoulder, something to that nature. However, I just believe that Shawn thinks he's larger than life and above the law when it comes to pushing paper and misleading in his contracts to fraud his clients out of money, for example Exceeding contract amount as he has been accused in the past & what I know he has done to us to date and as long as he has those license he will continue moving forward. The job was not even 15%of the way into things and Mr. Shawn Winters already had our extra money spent that was to be used for unexpected issues, he had not had all units demo yet and only one half of the roof had been 75% completed, really? What really took the cake, Mr. Shawn Winters told us our cabinetry per kitchen was $7800 for units that are not even 600sq feet, they are galley kitchens real little they only fit maybe 6 cabinets in each& small at that, he provided us no receipt but a computer print out that was not a one, but we later found out, the price was false and the price was $2500 cheaper, but he told us before we started the cabinets would be custom, they were not, they were pulling these cabinetry out of boxes from china, which was fine, because they were beautiful besides the damage to them when they were being installed & were not worth the price given, & we were being told we were getting custom. Trust, out the door and the list goes on, not taking proper permits needed & required, leaving burned material such as wood in it's place wanting just to paint over it, he went as far to say we could not even afford certain light switches such as dimmers, mind you if I told you all how much money was available for my best friend to have this building at its best you would freak out, so I would rather just leave it at pure GREED and trust he is to ashamed to say , as I heard him tell his forman how embarrassed he really is as he SHOULD BE. I want to end this by thanking GOD for Angie's List & blessing her to give customers like myself a platform to share with others a experiences we have had. It's important to know, I am not using this platform to seek revenge, compensation, be hateful or just to get back at anyone I do not believe this platform was designed for that, it was designed to help others make the right choices in whom they choose to let in there lives, homes etc. So with that, I have a best friend who is terminally and a fantastic person at that and if you have anyone in your life you love as much as I love her , DO NOT LET KNOW ONE COME IN AND HURT YOUR FAMILY by GREED find someone who truly cares about what your needs are, that's what you are paying them for. Walk around with your contractor as I did, get to know them, they are in your CASTLE, where you wake, sleep, eat and share with your loved ones. Just like a Doctor who cares for you or a loved one, you ask question, your life depends on it, well those contractors are the Doctors working on your home. If you have not been taken advantage of by a contractor, this is just warning in your selection, if you have been, then you are not alone & GOD will see you thru to the finish line as he is doing for my best friend & I. She is still here with us & we were so blessed to have purchased some really nice custom cabinetry for $ 2600 per kitchen, my best friend got the cabinetry she wanted, all the burned & bad wood has been replaced etc. And most importantly we now have a contractor who takes pride in his work, the respect for his laborers & there profession, not the money. God kept some of the really great people here to see us thru & want to thank Jay, Damingo, Pete our license & bonded plumber,Solo custom cabinets, Keith our roofer and most importantly I thank GOD for sending Jeff Haskin our new Licensed & Bonded contractor that will see us to the finish line.
