Designer was friendly enough and got estimates for three closets. I was not satisfied with two of the closets and decided not to proceed with them. The guest closet looked good on paper and signed off on it. When the installer arrived he pointed out one side panel was not the same size as the other. When I questioned the designer about it she said that's what I signed off on and laughed about it. Rather than pay $280 more I told the installer to proceed. Needless to say the closet was not custom made for its existing dimensions. The quality of the material is laminated particle board not what I expected. I have had furniture in the past made with particle board but the quality was much better. The only saving grace about this install was the installer in that he attempted to minimize a wrong. I will definitely not use this company ever again.

Raymond Shadwick, an Executive Sr Designer, showed up early, was polite, professional, and very experienced. He looked at my closets and discussed my requirements and budget. Then he quickly designed a custom solution, and applied all possible discounts to give me the best deal. He got me an installation appointment on the spot, and gave me his number in case I had changes. I did call later to make a minor change and he made it quickly.

She was here on time. The lady was very nice. It was just that we ended up finding someone just a little bit cheaper and gave us a little bit more for our dollar. They were very nice and they were willing to make deals and get it done right.

The initial designer that was supposed to arrive at my house at 1pm never showed up. I called the company around 1:30pm and asked about the status and was told that the designer couldn?t be reached. They said they?d contact another designer and have them arrive at 3pm. When they did arrive at 3:30pm, the designer was apologetic about being late and got right down to business. I was looking to have two closets redone in my new home so she took measurements and discussed design options. She then sat down with my input in mind and drew up a design on the spot. After about 20 minutes, she was done and we discussed the design. Their demolition capabilities are very limited and I was told that I would have to do most of it myself. I suppose they?re used to working on completely empty closets which I guess is a fair assumption. She showed me the price and then did the ?infomercial mark down? of throwing things in for free and taking the advertised 40% off. But wait?there?s more!!! She then called her manager to see if I could get a special deal and sure enough came back with a number even lower. While I do appreciate having a quotable price, the roundabout way to get there was annoying. In all fairness, I am probably disproportionately bitter towards the ?sales? process as I just bought a car and help my brother buy one too so that what I say with a grain of salt. Bottom line is that around 4:30pm (3 ½ hours after my original appointment) I was presented with a price that was considerably higher than expected and substantially higher than it would cost to do it myself. I politely told the designer that I wouldn?t be using her services and thanked her for her time. Despite the no-show first designer the experience wasn?t too bad but the 40 minutes spent bring the price down to a still unreasonable figure is what gets them a ?C?. I can respect the hustle but I know when my chocolate rations are going down (any Orwell fans out there?) The two closets were quoted to cost $2,500.

Do not like the way Closet World does business. They quote you a very high price, then talk to their managers, while talking to you to get a better price. It was comparable to buying a used car. Do not blame representative, this is obviously how this company wants their employees to deal with customers. Everything was an upcharge, then discounted. The company we went with, just charged one price, no upcharges for colors or backing panels. You knew exactly what you were getting. This and previous on-line reviews influenced me not to use this company. They can do better!

I did not use them because I did not like their pricing system. Their quoted price was $5,000. I got a quote from another company and they were much more straightforward. She quoted me a base price of $11,000 and they started discounting from there. It ended up being about the same price as the company I ended up using but I liked just getting a straightforward price. I also felt like I was getting pressured because she kept calling me; I did not like that at all. The way she was going to arrange the closet was not really the best way. The other company had a better way to arrange it.

Overall experience was not good. Met with rep who came out to house to measure and come up with design. She was pleasant, however, the process took over 2 hours which I was not expecting. I have a small child and had to keep her entertained in an empty house for 2 + hrs while the rep was working on a HARD sale. I explained to her that I was trying to get estimates so I could make an informed decision. She quoted me a price of almost 4000.00 when I told her that was much more than I expected she informed me that she could talk to her boss and see if I could get a discount. They knocked off approx 1000.00 and I told her that I was not ready to make a decision. She said that I should talk it over with my husband and that she would call me later that evening because the offer was only good until then. She called me multiple times and I again explained that I was not ready to make a decision because I needed more than one estimate. In the end I went with closet tailors their price was much better than closet world and it wasn't a hard sale.

When the doors were installed, it was one inch narrower than one in the contact. The designer agreed that it is wrong and asked me to send an e-mail to Customer Service. Their customer service is the worst one. He does not listen to the customer and pushes to accept the wrong doors. After one month of request for inspection, he never showed up. We had to escalated it to the district manager. He reviewed and told me later that the doors will be replaced. It took over two months to resolve it.
Description of Work: Designer came from the company and took the measurement of opening where the closet is built. We agreed with a special type of sliding doors and specified in the contract.

They did the job even though some of the handles are somewhat off... maybe because they did it in the dark evening hours. I wrote an email complaint to the installation manager... who never replied. They never followed up on my experience.
Description of Work: Installed garage cabinets. Told me my installation time was between 12-2pm. They arrived 4 hours later. I kept calling their customer service and they said they were running late for a prior appt. They did the job around 6pm when people are coming home, having dinner, and it's dark. They did the job in the dark with poor lighting, because of their tardiness. The job was loud because they were cutting wood and stuff... in the dark... in the evening hours.

The crew were professional and ensured that we agreed on project details before starting work and ensured that all work was completed as agreed. I was asked about problems encountered during installation to ensure that the finished job was functional.
Description of Work: Added a workbench, three large storage cabinets and five smaller cabinets for neat storage of tools and supplies. I had to ensure that the work area was clear of boxes, etc to ensure that they could start right in with installation. Cabinets were secured to walls and left @ 3" off the floor to prevent possible water damage. I selected white cabinetry although other choices were available. Sales representative was very helpful in selecting style and design. Workers were courteous and efficient. Installation took between 4 1/2 and 5 hours and they left the work area neat and clean. Although I could have purchased similar at Home Depot or Lowes for about 1/3 the cost, the quality was superior and I would not have been able to install. After hiring competent carpenters to do the work, the cost would have been close to the same but the quality might or might not have been obtained.

This is the second time we've used closet world. The last time was over 12 years ago, so I imagine things could have changed but we were happy then and happy now.The salesperson we had was quite professional. Very nice and not pushy. I was fully ready to turn the salesperson down as I don't like pushy, but this gentleman was quite professional. He did a great job designing the double closets that we have in our master bedroom. It wasn't an overly complicated design, but it was still exactly what we wanted. He of course did the typical here's the full retail price, minus the discount, minus my extra sales person discount. Very much like a car salesman. I honestly wish companies wouldn't use this tactic as in my opinion it's a complete turn off. I would rather they give the price and be done with it. I ultimately negotiated a price that I was comfortable with, as well as the upgraded product I wanted. I'm sure if I shopped around I could have found a better price, or I'm definitely sure that I could have gone to Home Depot or Lowes and purchased all the material myself, but then it probably would never have gotten done and my wife would be upset with me over another non-completed project. They scheduled the installation for a Tuesday. They called me the Friday before to confirm the date and time. The installer came towards the latter part of the time slot, but that's ok, he was still there within the time promised. The installer was very diligent about protecting our hardwood floors. He did a great job pulling out the existing shelves and hanging rod. Didn't mark up the walls anymore than was necessary. As far as the closet organizer, they are exactly what we expected. It matched the design. Perhaps the only disappointment I had was that on the smaller side of our closet we had to lose an inch because the length was longer than recommended for shelf width, so they had to use spacers on the left and right. This wasn't pointed out to me, but overall I still had some much extra room with the design it was ok. Finally, the installer did a great job. I did stay with him most of the time, but he took good care of the material and everything was fit perfectly. The drawers we had install roll nicely and the overall fit of everything was near perfect. It looks very nice and we're quite happy with the additional space. I am happy that it doesn't appear as though I need to contact the company, so I can't comment on their after service. Overall I'm happy. From what I've read, it sounds like it could have been more of a nightmare.

I was VERY hesitant to hire Closet World. I am a very active consumer and do all the necessary research before hiring any company. I called the CSLB to check their license, and it’s current status. I am also aware of all the California contracting laws and seeing all the past complaints on their license and all over the internet was discouraging. I made my concerns know to the company and they seemed h*** bent on proving me wrong. I was worried about measurements and material being incorrect so they sent out Mike Kinzie there install manager in the Sand Diego area (closer to my location) He checked everything and assured me everything was done good and correct by the designer Mireya. I also spoke with the regional sales manger John Jasper and his boss Joe Pineda. The fact of the matter is that Closet World is a large company that builds 15,000+ closets a year. Out of those closets the 100 or so complaints aren't really that bad when you look at the big picture, plus people tend to only share when they are an unhappy customer not a happy customer. My only issue with the company was there required 50% down payment. I refused to accept this considering 99% of Contractors in California are legally only allowed to accept a 10% deposit with payment on completion or a schedule of payments there after. At the time I hired Closet World they had a bond called a Blanket Blond that only about 24 companies in all of California have. This bond allows them to take the 50% deposit. I personally don’t care about the bond and refused the 50% deposit. I agreed to 10% down, 40% on arrival and 50% upon completion. I scheduled my install for a monday and was very concerned about them sending out 1 guy to build 4 closets in one day (another complaint I read about) Mike assured me he was sending his best installer and he would get it done it one day. (one of my closets is 12 feet long and another is 10) I really was discouraged but to my shock I received a call the friday before letting me know my window of arrival was 9-10:30. I also expressed my concern of the installer showing at noon because when you hire Closet World they give you an am 9-12 or pm 12-6 and then narrow it to a 2 hour window closer to the install date. Monday morning the installer arrived 10 minutes early 8:55a.m. His name is Jose and it was clear to me he was very experienced. I asked if he thought he could finish in one day and he said yes, and asked if it was ok if he stayed until 6 and I said stay as long as you need if it means getting it done! He worked non stop until 5:30 when he completed the job. He also didn’t take my 40% on arrival payment he just to took the full balance upon completion which actually made me feel better. The closets were built identical to the design. My 12 foot closet was the only closet I had an issues with which wasn't the installers fault. There is a 24 inch section that is behind a drywall panel. The closet is 12 feet long and has two separate closet doors with the drywall panel separating the doors. We all knew this 24 inch section would be hard to access but I planned it with the intentions of having 2-4 inches on each side or more. But because I had 24 inch drawers on both sides, in order for the drawers to not interfere with the closet doors the center section had to be cut down to 23 1/2 inches. so the middle shelving is nearly useless. I explained to Mike that i told the designer I would rather have smaller drawers if it meant a larger area that was accessible. The designer said the middle section would be about 28 inches and made it a cut to fit piece. She didn't think the drawers would be an issue. I was thrilled with every other aspect of my install and Mike wanted me to be 100% happy, he offered me many different options to modify the unit to compensate for the unusable area. We agreed on 5 extra shelves for 2 different panels for $75 and he also is giving me a belt rack. He is having an installer drop the material off to me today and also check the bottom panel for reinforcement since my original plan was to use the middle panel for books I need to move them to a different section that is slightly wider, he gave me a lot of great suggestions for reinforcing the shelves to avoid bowing from the books. I did find use for the middle shelves....Blankets. Even then it’s hard to put them in. The job overall turned out great. I am thrilled with the material quality and the price was $500 less than all the other estimates I received. I LOVE the versatility of their closet systems, I have 2 children soon to be 3 and am able to adjust everything. I can have triple, double or single hanging.
Description of Work: I hired Closet World to build 4 custom closets. 16 inch deep panels with drawers in each and extra shelves. The material is from their “Signature” collection which adds a soft edge to all shelves and drawers. The drawers have a deco face and 100% extension. The 4 closets range in size. 144 inches long, 120 inches long, 76 inches long and the smallest was 42 inches long.

Closet World is literally the WORST COMPANY I have ever come across. Like Maggie, I WISH I would have read the yelp reviews before doing business with them. After my sales rep spent literally 4 hours in my home coming up with a very simple plan for my closet, the results were extremely disappointing. I paid $960 for about $200 worth of materials and one hour of installation time. I was told by the rep that if I wasn't satisfied they would come back. Not only did they not come back but after calling multiple people multiple times, no one ever called me back. Once they've got your money, this company couldn't care less if they ever get your business again let alone possible referrals. To summarize: poor quality, cuts corners, unimaginative, inefficient, and just plain rude.

They did a lousy job installing the cabinet from the begining and doors were loose. They came back to fix the doors, but they were never right (still loose and doors of upper compartment touched the doors of lower compartments because upper ones are almost falling). We were very careful about doors for years and now we are moving to other house. We called them to have those fixed and they said that they would charge us $120, so I said fine and to schedule us for the afternoon a week or two weeks later. The guy (Howard) said that they could only come out between 9:00 to 11:00 am and I said I would wait until they have an opening in the afternoon. But what he was saying is they "only" do this type of work in the morning and save their afternoon for more money making business. I was mad because I had to miss the work, so I said I would call local handyman. The guy said if anybody other than them touches their precious products they are not going to give any warranty. Their afterservice is lousy and all they think about is selling their products with no interest in how their precious products turn out to be. I will never hire them again.

Initially, I put down a $700 deposit. Their rep came to my home with a catalog, no physical samples, and worked with me to select the doors and place the order. When they came to deliver the doors, they were very poor quality and I did not want them. They didn't have the right screws, they didn't know how to line it up and installed the door crooked; very poor workmanship as far as I'm concerned. I fought with the supervisor for about 4 days and we finally came to an agreement to upgrade one set of doors for more money, and they sent different guys out here to do the installation. It was a frustrating experience and I've never been so aggravated.

Horrible! And it still isn't over. The designer was here 4 hours and still got things wrong. The 1st day, the installers were late and then only here for less than 5 hours. The 8 closet doors were never ordered, causing the installation to extend to a 3rd day. When the closet doors were installed, they would not close over the drawer handles we had selected, so the installation was extended yet another day for new drawer fronts with recessed handles. The new drawer fronts are full of holes on the inside, so-They Will Be Back Again! Also they cut my crown moulding 10" from the old closet door, and did a poor repair job; left holes in my closet walls and put runs in 2 of my carpets! Now they want us to do the leg work to find a carpet repair company and submit a quote to them.

Horrible! One cabinet was completed, but very poorly, one was half assembled and they left the boards for the desk in a pile on my office floor. They never returned and finished the job, and kept re-billing my credit card until one charge went through that the credit card company would not refund. The job was never finished. The process was very easy. Called and got an appointment set. The salesman showed on time, was very helpful in creating some drawings, taking out input, and ultimately coming up with the final design. We scheduled our appointment within a few weeks of when we decided to go with Closet World. The installer showed up late, but not without calling to say his other job was running late. He was scheduled to work part of the day and then return in the morning to finish. He stayed late and finished on the first day. The installer did a great job, was courteous, and clean.

I called Closet World and set up an appointment to have an in-home consultation. When the consultant arrived, I showed her the space I wanted to turn into a very simple closet space. This job required the installation of three clothes rods and one set of cubby holes. She spent 3 hours in my home measuring, calling the main office to ask questions, trying to draw a detailed sketch for me, and answering her cell phone to take calls from her family. I came into the room several times and heard her having long phone conversations with her parents. When I finally asked her what was taking so long she explained that she was trying to draw a sketch she could leave with me. I told her to finish the drawing at the office and to fax it to me. She left without giving me any idea of what the job would cost or how long it would take. She never faxed the sketch nor did she call with a estimate.
Description of Work: I did not hire Closet World because my experience with the consultant was very negative.

The quality of the product was totally unsatisfactory, dirty and dinged. Scheduled to show up at 11 am, showed up at 4:00pm dropped partial order in the middle of our master bedroom and closet and said they would return 830 am next day. I called at 9:00 they said it would be 3pm. Rescheduled for another day, showed up at 10:30 left at 5:00. They were supposed to return 830 next day. NO SHOW NO CALL. Supervisor said he couldn't get a hold of installer. They showed up the following day with 1 installer. Installer didn't apologize or acknowledge me upon arrival. Left the place dirty every time they came. Sawdust all over, plastic strewn in garden and cabinet surfaces with hand prints, the seams weren't clean, the files were legal not letter. A plain disaster. Oh yeah, they ripped out the brand new painted baseboard when we had paid extra for them to notch the panels! Definitely disappointed with our choice!
