No more flickering lights in the house and sizzling in the panel! All of the people I came into contact with from their company were very professional and courteous, and fixed my problem within a few days, including getting DWP to come before and after the work to make sure they were okay with the placement for permit purposes. While figuring out the problem they also fixed two wiring problems that a handyman had created when he installed a light and a bathroom fan (3 visits overall). I was happy with the outcome.

Two tenants in an apt showed me the problem: a loud noise like a high wind with a little bit of hum seemed to be coming out of an outlet. I called Fairway & Hollis was sent. Hollis was great. After a thorough examination, he conferred with his boss, Paul, & their 50 years of experience pinpointed the problem as water in the pipe (1928 construction, iron pipe carrying wires with cloth insulation). The first problem was condensation, then the wire boiled the water. Two more electricians were sent. They were great. They rewired & also made sure that the problem could not happen again. Everybody also made sure the circuit breakers were ok.
Description of Work: First electrician diagnosed -- cost was $80. Later, two electricians repaired--running new wire on the final leg of the circuit--the problem for $250. Total cost was $330.

I have used Paul and his team 3 times, Fixed circuit board once, hung a ceiling fan and lastly added new outlet. Each time was a good experience. Paul and his guys are pros. They get the job done at reasonable prices and are pleasant to work with. When I had the circuit board fixed they gave me options to do the job inexpensively or a complete overhaul. I chose the inexpensive route and have had no further problems.

The electrician came the first day, and seemed OK, and arranged to return next week. When he left, we realized that the lights he'd wired to the switch didn't turn off. We didn't worry too much - he was returning next week. I took the day off work, and he never came. I phoned, and they sent someone else around the next day, who fixed the lights that didn't turn off and finished the other work. This Saturday, we had a problem with our circuit breaker - it had tripped and the switch was broken. We called them again, and they came on Saturday morning and fixed it pretty quickly (I believe this was the boss). While he was there the electrician said our circuit board was old, and should be replaced, and that the casing for the wiring for the outside socket was not up to code. This was installed by them (!). On Monday, we noticed we had no hot water, and so a plumber came out. He spent 3 hours checking the hot water heater, trying to work out the problem. Eventually he worked out that one of the wires had come off, behind the cover of the circuit breaker. Possibly a coincidence. Probably not.
Description of Work: Fairway electrical did several jobs in our house. We had some exterior lights that were on an automatic switch, we wanted them converted to a switch that we could turn off, change a couple of light fixtures, and add some power outlets in the basement and yard.

I looked at the history of this job. The description of this house is very important. A house built in 1937, 2 story with a basement, and the large backyard, that has sloping landscape and multiple angles to the roof line. (1) The light that stayed on; The lights were only replaced and not rewired and the photo cells were bypassed, the fixture in question was missed. the problem was a sensor that was stuck in the on position. When we returned the fixture was repaired at no additional charge because of any inconvenience this might have caused. (2) Yes we missed a appointment. This is about the time we were becoming very busy. A wonderful achievement in the state of the economy, and it caught us a bit off guard. I corrected that right away and completed the scope of work on the following day. (This took place 4-29-09/5-14-09 almost 6 months ago.) I called the customer as a follow up to the work and mentioned the need of possibly changing out the main panel. The panel is no longer in production and has many signs of prolonged exposure to the weather. We recommended the panel be replaced then. In addition to one or two circuits for the kitchen. The kitchen had many counter top appliances on one circuit, we suggested that this is causing the breakers to overload. The reply was not now we need the watch our budget. I replied no problem if you need us just call. (3) Here we are almost six months later. the customer called on a Saturday and requested service, he mentioned the following; the breaker had tripped that handled the kitchen appliances, when he went to re-set the breaker, but as the customer stated the toggle was indeed broken off. (many signs of prolonged exposure to the weather) My crew was busy already. I went on the call myself because the refrigerator was also off. and the customer was very concerned. I met the customer he showed me the panel. I opened the cover removed the wire off the bad breaker, I found a spare breaker and installed the wire turned the breaker on closed the panel and everything was working.(The customer was with me the entire time) The fact that approximately 2 1/2 days later the hot water went out is a bit of a stretch to imply that I did something malicious to the panel. This is something that is common, unfortunately when you try to keep something alive. That should be put to rest, like domino's things just keep breaking down the line. I wish the customer would have called,as always I would have taken any and all responsibility if we caused a problem. (4) The plumber, OK a plumber came out went to the water heater and said there was no power. so the plumber was trouble shooting the electrical. That what was said. He then went to the panel, I assume he re-set the breaker marked water heater, check to power at the water heater and found the power was still off. Going back to the panel asked if there was any other ares work was completed at besides the panel. He then tightened the connection, of that breaker. This took three hours of billing from the plumber, are you sure you should be upset with us.

We subscribed to Angie's List because it was recommended by friends. We needed an electrician and we called Paul Harris of Fairway Electric. He sent someone to give us an estimate but then we could not get any response even after repeated calls so we are going to have to find another electrician but I"m afraid that my trust and faith in Angie's List has been compromised.

Help. This is very difficult I did set a appointment for today since last week after many tries to fit within his busy calender, but that was postponed by him. Yesterday he said his wife had a doctors appointment and that we need to reschedule. We did supply pricing they have troubleshooting, and a couple of high lights to hang and we gave them our pricing on the day of the estimate. The work would take 5 to 8 hours it would not be fair to us or the customer to quote a short circuit without the knowledge of locating the problem fist. Sometimes this is very difficult to meet the needs of people that are so busy . But we will keep doing our best.. Paul Harris

The workman (tommy) was great. They needed to make holes in the walls for the re-wire but worked as hard as they could to minimize the damage and repaired what they could. The work was done in a professional manner and was exactly what was promised. The owner (Paul) called to make sure we were happy and provides real customer service. They are great guys and I will defiantly call them again for repairs/improvements to my home.

They were great, and Paul's a good guy. It was a big project?several, in fact?so we got to meet both Tommy and Hollis, both of whom are very nice and professional. Everything looks good and got signed off by the city inspector without a problem. We had one or two little hiccups (to be expected on a whole-house overhaul), but Paul was very quick to make sure we ended up with what we needed. I recommend them?they do great work. Thanks, Paul!

Excellent overall experience. Started a little rocky when I scheduled the app't and the crew didn't show. Turned out to be a miscommunication with Paul, who apologized, and promptly sent an electrician over to the house. It turned out, however, that the electrician was alone and needed a co-worker for the job, and therefore had to re-schedule for the next day. They more than made up for any inconvenience the next day, showing up a few minutes early, with all the materials, and completing the job quickly. The crew was very professional, did a great job, cleaned up, and tested everything. I WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN FOR ELECTRICAL WORK.

Sunday afternoon I called the number given in Angies List. Talked to Owner and described problem as I understood it together with diagnosis provided by first contractor. Told Owner I wanted a second opinion. Owner arranged to have electrician at my house at 8 a.m. Monday. They diagnosed, gave me an estimate, and with my OK to proceed went to work. They checked all outlets in the house before they left. The Owner made a follow-up call that evening. I was given the 10% Angies List Discount and a 5% Senior Discount.
Description of Work: Excellent emergency response to a home power outage in Pasadena. Called them for a second opinion. Responding electricians diagnosed the problem quickly - water from a washing machine overflow several months ago had seeped into a wire conduit - and corrected the unusual source of the problem in less than four hours. The work required going into my basement crawl space, pulling the damaged wire and rewiring its connection to the electrical panel. The two service providers were easy to communicate with. The first contractor contacted suggested that the entire house needed rewiring. Fairway Electric personnel assured me that this was unnecessary and guaranteed they had corrected the problem before they left.

Our original kitchen recessed lights just weren't bright enough. Fairway changed the "cans" but we weren't happy with the intensity and color of the new lights. Actually, we became so discouraged during the process that we asked Paul to replace the new cans with the old original ones - but Paul, Jaime and Tommy took it on themselves to shop the market again and again till they found the light we would be happy with. They were DETERMINED to please us (and save us the additional expense) - and they did.. To simply say that they were accommodating would be a disservice to them; they really went above and beyond what one could reasonably expect.
Description of Work: Fairway switched out 10 recessed lighting "cans" and were most instrumental in helping us determine the type of light/bulbs/colors that we were finally happy with.

Please see the above. It was a very, very positive experience. The contrast between Fairway and the electrical companies I've used in the past was unbelievable.
Description of Work: Worked on our recessed lighting. Some of the lights kept going out, and there were loose connections. It turns out the sockets and plugs were defective...the original sockets were the wrong kind...they did not have adequate insulation to keep from getting too hot...and the plugs were plastic instead of porcelain and were also melting. The Fairway electrician was really knowledgeable and incredibly polite and punctual. He also fixed my hood light in the kitchen. On the recessed lighting, he had to order the right parts and come back a second time to install. He refused to take any gratuity. I was extremely pleased with the work and the price. I am a loyal customer from this day forward.

We selected Fairway electric after receiving several estimates from several other contractors. We were very selective due to the large scope of work that needed to be done. We ultimately settled on Fairway based on a combination of price, reviews on Angie's List and a positive experience during the interview/bid process. Once we made the selection they were very professional and always showed up on time and always cleaned up after themselves. The did a great job and were able to do all the work on time and on budget. They also did a great job of being able to do the work, including running new lines without having to break open existing walls (no small feat in an old house). We had a few change orders along the way (we added things to their list) and there was no problem. They help us out by telling us what recessed lights to buy so that we could purchase them ourselves and have them install them, which saved us money.

Paul answered the phone himself when I called Fairway Electric. He asked for an email of the problem along with contact and job site location information. We agreed that the next day would be best to schedule, but I ended up calling him back within an hour, requesting an earlier time. He sent Tommy, one of his electricians out immediately, who arrived punctually on time as promised. Both Paul and Tommy were exceptionally polite and courteous. After checking the status of the circuit at the appliances, that indeed the circuit was dead, Tommy checked the breaker board, and discovered the failed breaker. Although he hadn't the correct replacement in his truck, he drove to our local neighborhood hardware store, got the right part, and installed and tested it. The service was fast, courteous and offered a level of quality superior to that of the previous electrician we had had to the house. Paul called later in the evening to ensure that everything was working okay, and to make sure any questions we may still have could be answered. Hands down, best electrician service and #1 in customer care. This works and I will give them my business in the future.
Description of Work: The circuit that runs our washing machine and dryer failed this morning. We've a busy household with LOTS of laundry, so expediency in getting this fixed was a priority! We needed a reliable electrician fast. After checking our circuit board, it became clear we either had a short circuit or a failing breaker, which would need replaced. Running extension cords into the house to run the appliances didn't work because the appliance circuit runs with more amps than the typical household circuit. Replacing the bad breaker with a newly circuit breaker brought our household back to normal! Whew!

I spoke with Paul, the owner, on the phone and he asked me to e-mail him a description of the problems and said that someone would be out within two hours. Hollis arrived within two hours, was very courteous and fixed the outdoor light. For the fixtures that were burning the bulbs too quickly, he looked at the wiring, tightened some things up and suggested that the best first step would be to replace the fixtures. He said if we bought through him, it would probably cost more, so he suggested we shop around and then buy the fixtures for him to install at a later date. Later that evening, Paul called back to make sure we were happy and told us to contact him "24/7" if there were any problems. He also said if we had any trouble finding a fixture to contact him and he would look around and try to find us the closest match he could.
