After calling two other electricians on Friday morning and (instant gratification being something I work, on almost incessantly!) hoping to have someone come out to our house in Malibu that day and being told that the earliest anyone could make it out was Monday I finally called Paul before giving up. Paul told me that he could have one of his guys out in less than an hour and, in fact, had someone here in about 45 minutes. About fifteen minutes after Jaime showed Paul called to make sure that he had arrived and asked if everything was going smoothly so far. Jaime spoke perfect English and was obviously talented and experienced. I'm something of a handyman; one that knows his limitations when it comes to electrical but, that said, I certainly know what I want. Jaime listened to me patiently and offered what I felt were several workable solutions to my dilemma (killing an NM line that ran through a wall that I wanted to remove). After discussing all the various options and their relative costs with me, Jaime gave me a $250.00 estimate on the route we finally agreed upon. Of course, as is the nature of Murphy's law of remodeling, EVERYTHING about the way the house is constructed that could throw a wrench into our plans did!! And I mean EVERYTHING. I initially believed that Jaime would knock this thing out in about 2 hours. Well about 4 hours and MANY frustrating turns-of-event later Jaime had finished and done a spectacular job. He was neat, worked hard and kept me informed (I'm one of THOSE guys that watches over every craftsman's shoulder in an attempt to learn all I can - well, that AND to make sure it's done right) as he did the job. I was extremely satisfied and felt very comfortable about my proclivities (the watching). When done Jaime provided me with a bill for... $225.00!! I was shocked, to say the least. I had earlier warned my roommate (and the owner of the house) that the final tally was bound to be substantially more than the estimate. A chunk of the "substantially more" ended up going to Jaime as a tip! Needless to say, I've found then only electrician I'll ever use from here on out. Thank you Paul and thank you Jaime!
Description of Work: I had opened a wall up that I wanted to remove and, low-and-behold, there was an NM line running through it. I called Paul to have him or one of his guys come out to kill that line and re-route the power to the other side of the house.

Paul took my call and arranged for Tony to visit within a couple of days. Tony figured out what was wrong with an undersink outlet and fixed the problem. He also installed two outdoor lights on the walls of a patio. He also gave me a quote on a variety of electrical work. We made a date for the work. Tony was sick and unavailable on that date. Jaime came with an assistant and they did the variety of work we needed. Both were professional and efficient. All the work was done when scheduled and there were no follow-up problems.
Description of Work: INSTALLED A NUMBER OF WALL SOCKETS IN AREAS LACKING. INSTALLED PATIO LIGHTING. INSTALLED TRACK LIGHTING IN A HALLWAY. INSTALLED OUTDOOR LIGHTING IN FRONT OF HOUSE. DIAGNOSED AND FIXED A PROBLEM WITH AN UNDERSINK OUTLET. Installed a ceiling fixture in a bedroom.

We were experiencing some electrical problems in a two bedroom apartment that we have for rent, and wanted to address them ASAP. I called Paul on the 24th and had an appointment scheduled for 8am on the 25th. Tommy, the electrician who came, was punctual, courteous, knowledgeable, and finished the job in a very timely fashion. We are very satisfied and are looking forward to working with Paul in the future.
Description of Work: Re-wired GFCI's in bathrooms. Re-wired ceiling fan in dining area. Re-wired bedroom outlets. Added one direct wire for smoke alarm. Checked to see if all outlets were in working order.

The project went very smoothly. The company's owner and 2 employees arrived on time. They removed the 2 chandeliers and safely packed them in wardrobe boxes (which I had purchased based on the owner's suggestion). They assembled and installed the new lights. The electricians inquired about the drop length for each and did it to my specifications. Once the light over the stairs was installed, we all realized it was too low and they brought the light up a few inches. The new lights were more involved, as new wiring needed to be run from the ceiling. The electricians worked around a very small attic to drop in the lines without making any holes in the ceiling. That was relief! The electricians were very professional and accommodating to figure out the exact locations for the 2 lights. The lights needed to be centered off a fireplace, and spaced 36 inches apart over the center of a dining table. They were patient as we measured, remeasured, moved the table out of the way and back in. The final locations were perfect and the height is great. A less experienced crew would have been very troubled by the process. It also helped that the electricians spoke English, so we could work through the project together. The entire project took about 7 hours, and the lights look gorgeous. We had little patching/repair to do. I was nervous that the project would be extensive and difficult, but the professional attitude of Fairway Electric made it very simple. Last thing, the owner even made sure he returned to put a screw in a light switch plate, and it turned out it wasn't even a light switch they touched! Excellent customer service!
Description of Work: Fairway Electric removed 2 chandeliers and rehung new ones. They also did new installation on 2 overhead lights, which required the installation of a new light switch. All 4 lights were installed from high ceilings.

t was a more challenging job than we initially expected, but the workers were very pleasant and professional and stayed until the job was done. When we wanted to make adjustments to the timer and couldn't figure out how to do it, Paul sent someone out on Christmas eve (!) to resolve the issue and ensure that we were satisfied customers. We will definitely use these guys again.
Description of Work: We needed to install an electrical line to our new fountain, as well as a timer system and some outdoor lights to spotlight it. The owner, Paul, came out the same day I called to give an estimate, and sent out his workers the very next day to do the job (even though it was two days before Christmas and pouring rain).

The circuit breaker went bad on Saturday night, so I called Fairway electric on Sunday a.m. and reached Paul Harris. He was in the midst of something, said he would call back in an hour, and did so within the hour. We discussed the situation; he suggested looking at the panel and getting the circuit breaker at Home Depot in the event he did not have the particular type of breaker. Mr. Harris was very informative regarding the blown and replacement circuit breakers, which turned out to be a specialty breaker type most electricians don't carry. He helped me (by phone) locate a replacement breaker at the local Home Depot, then actually came by later that Sunday to replace the bad breaker. There is an Angie's List discount, but I felt it appropriate to pay a little extra since Fairway came by on a Sunday, so we did not have to stay home to deal with a repair call on Monday.

Called these guys a few times, but other than sending one tech out to my home while I was not there (and then not following up with an estimate or call as to the particulars of the problem or a suggested resolution) they failed to return multiple calls, or follow up on the work. They were friendly on the phone when I was able to reach them, but clearly did not want the work. It was a complicated job, and probably expensive, but it would have been nice for them to professionally "pass" on the job, rather than just blowing me off.
Description of Work: Tried to have them come out and fix some lights in my concrete porch steps.

I had heard good things about this company from my best friend and wanted to try them. My friend had tried their services and said they did great work. What my friend neglected to tell me was that they were an hour late and he had to called them to remind them. If I would have known that then I would never have set up the appointment since punctuality is a big mark in my book. Anyways I sent an email to Paul and he got back to me right away of which I was surprised and pleased. So after a few emails responses back and forth. We decided on a 7:30am appointment.., I planned on sleeping in a little late since I had worked late the night before but I decided well we better get it done so I decided to wake up earlier to meet him. Well an estimated 30 minutes go by then an hour and it was a no show and no call...I had to go to work but my wife remained at the house all day and nobody called. So this was my experience with this company. Since then I have called someone else.
Description of Work: There was no service performed as it is explained in the "How did it go overall" statement below. I wanted to get a motion sensor light installed and fix another one. I also wanted them to fix our ceiling kitchen lights and have them check on our overhead stove/oven fan as well.

I called the business, and reached the owner, Paul Harris, on his cell phone. As he lives in my neighborhood, he was at my door in less than 3 minutes. I asked him to see if I needed a new lighting fixture in my refrigerator - the plastic cover had begun to melt and the sockets were scorched and discolored. He told me that the wattage of the bulbs we had installed were too high, and were not rated for the appliance. He suggested that I either call the manufacturer to obtain a new fixture, or just clean the fixture up and use lower wattage bulbs. His service call was at no charge. Paul was extremely honest, personable and businesslike. I recommend him highly.

Paul, the owner, sent Tommy to do the work at my home. Tommy arrived on time and got to work immediately and efficiently after answering all my questions and was more than willing to run to Home Depot for a needed part. I asked Tommy a million questions and without hesitation he politely and courteously answered all to my understanding and satisfaction. Great owner, great employee, great work.

The technician came out promptly and scoped out the project. When he saw it would be a two-man job (they had to pull wires up from the basement) he got on the phone and got another man to the site in less than 20 minutes. They worked quickly and efficiently and got the job done well and cleaned up after themselves. I'd be happy to use them again.

Called Paul Wednesday August 17th first thing in the morning and said he could send someone out that morning to give me an estimate. Tommy came out within an hour and was very professional, gave me a quote and we decided to do the work the next day. I felt very comfortable with his quote because I work at a hotel and I ask our Maintenance Director what he thinks is reasonable as he works with vendors on a daily basis. He said that Tommy's quote was a very reasonable price. The next day Tommy came on time and did the work quickly and efficiently and was very nice. He even helped me locate my outside timer (I just bought my home) which I couldn't for the life of me find myself. The whole experience was great. I felt like I received true value with the work done. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fairway Electric to all of my friends and Fairway Electric will always be my first call for any electrical issues I may have.

Paul fixed transistor box that had faulty wire cap. So far things are working and haven't had any issues. Explained other things I will need to address at a later date (unrelated to original problem). Was able to come on the weekend which is why price was a little bit higher than usual rate (which was quoted beforehand and is understandable considering the short notice). Very nice guy, would use again in future.

I emailed Paul with a description of the project earlier in the week and requested a rough estimate. He provided a quote and came out on Friday to confirm the quote and ended up completing the work on the same day. Paul and Jaime completed a very clean installation in a professional manner, and were able to reuse some existing conduit fittings in a effort to minimize hardware costs. I'd definitely choose Fairway Electric again for any future work. D Graul. P.E.

His tech Tommy showed up 15 minutes ahead of the agreed upon window so he could confirm what part he needed to hunt down. He then called me from the supply house to tell me that he had found it but that it would be costly. I knew that was going to sting - and I did appreciate that he did alert me. Although the installation was a bit challenging given the age of some components Tommy won the battle and did an expert job. All told it took no more than 2 hours from his first inspection to him wrapping up the job (and that includes the travel time to and from the supply house). I would recommend these guys again - and this is perfect example of why I am glad I subscribe to Angie's List.
Description of Work: Our lights had started to flicker throughout the house so I called DWP. They came out and after checking the panel determined it wasn't them but rather my main breaker (oh....joy). So I dove into Angie's list and found Fairway. I left a message and got a call back within 15-20 minutes. Paul was very thorough and was pleased that I had taken some digital photos of my panel box to send him so he could see what he would be up against. He did warn me that the breaker was old/obsolete and might prove costly (but still far better than replacing the entire panel). We made an appointment for the work to get done 2 days later

Initial communication was end of July via email, to list work required and take advantage of email discount. It took a couple of days to get a response. I spoke to Paul on the phone on August 3rd and I informed him that I am only available for a quote on some work--some additional lights hung and a security motion detector, after 6pm weekdays or a Saturday. He said he would contact me on or before Friday, to let me know what time he could swing by on Saturday 8/7. I did not receive a call. On Sunday 8/8 he emailed me asking me if I received his replies? On August 9th I called him and Paul said he got a new i-phone and was having difficulty using it. We set an appointment for Paul to come by between 9-10am on Saturday 8/14. During the day Wednesday 8/11 he called and asked me if our appointment was for that afternoon. I told him it was set up for Saturday and he apologized for the error. He confirmed that he would visit on 8/14. On Saturday I called and left a message to call me because it was after 10am the promised time of the appointment. He never called back or emailed me. I think I must be an anomaly in customer satisfaction, because of Fairway's overall high rating. Maybe Fairway Electric is so busy that blowing off a job under $1000 is acceptable behavior. (He never quoted a price and the $1k was my budget)

Fairway Electric impressed us from start to finish. They were actually the third of three estimates we had done. We knew the electric in our house needed updating, but not exactly to what extent. Tommy spent an hour at the house during our free estimate, and took off every single switch plate and outlet cover in the house to determine what had newer wiring and what needed to be replaced. This gaves us a very exact estimate, which we really appreciated, because our first estimate came in at three times their price. They were available to do the work when we wanted it done, and did an excellent job. Paul and his crew had great customer service, and left the house as they found it. We'll definitely use them again in the future if we have more projects!
Description of Work: Replaced old wiring throughout our 85-yr old house (about half of what was existing), added an additional circuit to our garage, and installed a ventilation fan in our bathroom, (also helped recommend what type of fan to purchase).

Very good experience. Paul, the owner, couldn't be nicer and more efficient. Set up the appointment to suit my schedule, which was very convenient for me and very appreciated. The electrician was the nicest guy (I'm sorry to say I forget if his name was Tom or Mike) arrived 15 minutes early, spent over 2 hours working on my kitchen outlets, did a couple of things for me without charging me, cleaned everything up and gave me pretty reasonable estimates and advice on other work I need to have done. I am a single woman with zero electrical knowledge and was nervous that I would be taken advantage of. After this experience, I can honestly say not only was I not taken advantage of, I think I was saved unnecessary expense and really looked after. I will never need another electrician because I will only use Fairway Electric from now on.
Description of Work: Had a 220 volt 'wire' (sorry, I'm not up on electrical lingo) from an old electric stovetop converted into a 110 outlet for my new gas stovetop. I also had a new box (that's what the electrician called it) and hardwire installed for my new kitchen exhaust fan. And as a bonus, the electrician threw in some work on some other outlets that were hanging out and probably dangerous. He offered to do that for me and didn't charge me, which I really appreciated. He also gave me estimates on other electrical work I need to do in the future.

Description of Work: I had turned off the main power on the breaker box and for some reason all the power in the house did not come back on. I assumed a breaker needed to be replaced. Fairway sent someone right away, he checked all the breakers and noticed some loose wiring. After he tightened everything up the power came back on. On Wednesday night at 11pm, I noticed a strong smell of an electrical problem in our den. I was petrified that our house would catch on fire. I called Fairway at 11:20 pm because they offer 24/7 service. Paul talked with me, advised me on shutting off the electrical items in the room, and suggested I reassess the situation in the morning. He was very calming, and I trusted his advice. The next day, the smell was still there. I looked all around the room and couldn't figure out what caused the problem. I called Paul and he stopped by that afternoon. He checked the room thoroughly (the room is filled computer, electronic equipment, lamps, and track lights) and could not find a threat. As he left, he gave me advice on what to look for, how to isolate one piece of equipment to determine what might be the problem. The next day, my husband figured out that the problem was a small fan tucked in the corner. The best part of working with Paul was his expertise, his knowledge that our problem was minor, and his ability to calm me down. He is now "my electrician"!

I'd received a quote from another company and decided that based on their AL ratings and reviews, I'd contact Paul at Fairway for comparison. Fairway came up with a more logical and cost effective way of getting a good end result without going to the expense of a complete service upgrade. In addition, because Tommy spent the time being very efficient, he determined that when the Central Air was installed into my unit, the Company that did the original installation four hears ago, had wired it to the wrong Electrical Panel. Something that the first Electrician I'd called missed. They were quick and efficient in their work and answered all my questions, responded to my phone calls and were patient with my schedule getting the work done. Great job to Tommy, Jaime and Paul. By the way, I'd called another company from AL for a quote, but by the time they returned my call, Fairway was nearly done with the work!
Description of Work: Installed sub-panel in one unit, re-wired central A/C to appropriate panel (2nd unit), fixed double tap wires in 2nd unit sub-panel, replaced 10 outlets for grounded outlets, installed new neutral wire for lighting.
