Paul, the owner, runs a great business. I think I met nearly everyone on his team. They were all very professional, courteous, did great work, and cleaned up after themselves each day. These guys are serious about their job and are committed to getting the job done RIGHT - no cutting corners, and everything to code. They are all very knowledgable about the latest safety regulations; we passed inspection with flying colors. We initially got an estimate for a much simpler job and then realized that we needed to upgrade our main panel and install a subpanel. It was a pretty complicated job because our backyard is all concrete and we had to figure out how to run about 80 ft of conduit discreetly down the side of our property without it being a total eyesore, and without having to cut through concrete and possibly damaging the house's foundation. During the couple of weeks during which I was "shopping around" between providers, getting estimates, and figuring out the best plan of action, I was in touch with Paul. He is a great communicator and explained our options to us very well. He is very busy so don't expect him to come personally to your house for estimates until you actually commit to doing the job with him. However, before making my final decision between Fairway and another company, I did take a video of the area explaining what we had in mind, and I shared it with Paul on Dropbox. He was online and watching it at 11 pm that same night. So if you are resourceful, Paul will definitely make himself available and work with you to make sure your job is done in the best possible way. I really appreciated this attention to detail and willingness to work with us on the specifics of the job. Once the work was underway, Paul himself came out to supervise and check in with us on two or three occasions. He was very understanding of our wish for the electrical wiring/ piping, boxes, etc. to be as discreet as possible and for any other necessary damage to the property to be minimal (eg. we needed to cut through a portion of a brick pathway and Paul gave specific instructions to his team on how to do this so that our contractor could easily patch it up afterward). There were a couple occasions where the aesthetics of the work were not to our satisfaction, so we expressed our concerns to Paul and requested that some conduits be rerouted so they would be less visible outside the house. He was happy to oblige us to the extent permissible by code, even though the rerouting required some extra labor. The only issue we had was that the job took a bit longer than anticipated, but we were not in a time crunch, and we much preferred to get the job done right than rush through it. The cost of the work was very reasonable, considering the complexity and labor involved. Overall, we were very satisfied, and that is saying a lot, because we are not an easy couple to please!
Description of Work: 1) Upgraded main panel from 100 to 200 amps. 2) Installed a 90-amp subpanel devoted to new pool equipment about 60 feet out from the main panel. 3) Installed GFCI protection on a couple outdoor outlets. Job did NOT include repatching stucco, relaying brick, or paint work.

Although I don't think it was my most stellar experience, Fairway Electric did fix the issue. However, this took a week of me constantly following up with the company. Paul is very good at being available and picking up the phone, but just isn't very good at calling back. Also, my Angie's list deal promised me a $135 credit, but Paul said he would honor only $100 of that. My poor tenant is a 65-year old lady who was heavily relying on this electrical problem getting fixed, so at that point, I just needed the job done and Fairway Electric was already familiar with the issue. I think I would use them again only if I was in a really tough bind.
Description of Work: I asked Fairway Electric to come assess why almost all the electrical outlets went out in my rental unit. Paul, the manager, sent his technician, Jaime to come help us fix the problem. Jaime had to come out twice -- the first time, it seems that Jaime did some rewiring, but had not dealt with the actual issue. Then we had to schedule him to come back a second time to fix the actual issue, which was to ease the electrical load on the line connected to garbage disposal.

Job # 1 Trouble shoot power outage Serviced all connects and re-set breaker. No apparent problem This circuit was being overloaded by demand . We suggested a dedicated circuit to divide the existing load. Job # 2 This was installed and the problem has been resolved This was an Angie's list deal That I completed the terms on the first project. The second project was accepted 2 days later and scheduled for a return trip I recommend just contacting us direct ( most jobs cost less than the deals and free estimates The second phase of the job . Dividing the load was an option was not needed by code but certainty solved the load problem. I was glad to apply some of the extra money from the first job to the second a additional - $35.00 discount

Fairway came in and finished (and fixed) a job that a handyman attempted related to installing two light switches that had been pull strings. The handyman could not figure out the wiring or complete either installation, and the light switch in my young daughter's closet was shorting as a result. A potentially dangerous situation. I spoke with Paul the owner -after 6pm - and he explained what to do so it was safe overnight, and then sent someone to our home the very first thing, very early, the next morning! Fantastic! Tommy was professional, fast, fixed the wiring problems the handyman created, and restored my peace of mind! We would highly recommend Fairway to anyone!

On speaking with Paul, the owner, he seemed very knowledgeable, honest, and responsible. However, there were ominous signs that we should have recognized. After speaking with us, it took several reminding calls, multitude excuses by him and 5 days later before he is able to provide us a written quote. We selected him against our better judgement and intuition because his price was reasonable. THEY DO NOT PATCH AND PAINT. This is an important emphasis given their sloppy work. Every wall they touched resulted in an extra hole or large gap in the wall. It totaled to a 4 out of 5 walls requiring significant patching and painting. In installing our recessed lighting in the living room, they accidentally drilled a hole in the wrong position and left a gaping 4 in hole in our newly painted ceiling. 2 of 3 outlets he installed resulted in a large gap between the outlet and the wall. When he installed the heater fan in the bathroom, there was again a 1 inch gap on one edge of the fan and the wall. When he installed a new recessed outlet for our TV, you guessed it, there was a giant 5x5 in additional hole generated to bypass the cables across the beams in the wall. It ultimately cost us an extra $700 dollars to repair all the damages he caused during his installation. Whatever savings you may have with Fairway Electric is not worth the hassle and stress of having them cause unsightly damages to your home. The main silver lining is that our lights, heater fan and electricity have been working. No problems with the electricity itself, but professionalism and craftsmanship is lacking. To see pictures of the holes, please see my yelp reviews of this company. It happened that both his team and the HVAC crew out were out during the same day and the difference is striking. His crew was sloppy, lazy, and slow. It caused delays for the HVAC team to replace our ducts. The estimated completion time was 3 days, but of course actual completion was pushed to 5 days.
Description of Work: We needed an electrician for repairs in our new home. He upgraded electrical panel and installed recessed outlet for tv, new heater fan in bathroom, 6 recessed lighting, 3 new outlets, and circuit breakers in 6 outlets

Please to anyone who is doing a renovation keep this in mind. Be present as much as possible to be able to make decisions when they come up. Like the placement of lights The framing of this older home was not consistent. The rafter supports went several different directions. The ceiling lighting layout needed to be changed . This was very limited access from the roof to the ceiling 24" or less with insulation. It is also not mentioned that the walls and the ceiling are Plaster not drywall. There is nothing simple about this type of work. When you see a over cut it is because the plaster rock breaks even when a grinder is used, we don't make hammer holes. This report also does not mention that I agreed we could have taken more time on the ceiling. Then compensated this customer by hanging a chandelier and installed an addition outlet at no charge. ( With no holes ) As for not patching and painting I make this very clear up front Patching and Painting is a talent learned over meany years. We are electricians by trade. Each trade is it own specialty I don't pretend to be a dentist or a surgeon because I can pull a tooth or gut a fish. A patch is something you might notice every day. It needs to be completed by the right person to be done right. As for the completion of the project. The customer has the numbers correct 2 1/2 days for the main electrical service change out . We completely removed the old flush box and placed a junction box in the attic and under the house in the crawl space . With a wired bridge in between from the attic to the crawl space the 5" x 5" inch hole was made to pass wire from top to bottom with a horizontal and a diagonal fire block in between. Then 2 1/2 days for the completion of the interior work . The heater replacement had an existing metal box in the ceiling that was removed. For the new box to have room it was placed in the least destructive position based on the framing above. ( This is a remodel and we must work with the framing that is existing ) We passed the city inspection for the permit. Completed on time and were paid in full with a thank you. Here is a sample of the communication between us : On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 12:12 PM, wrote: If would be so kind as to give me 1 more day. I have spoken to you over the phone about installing recesses light throughout our home. We are not sure whether we should go with a contractor or an electrical specialist as we have other stuff needs to be done around the house. I am wondering what is the cost for installing and materials. Is there a difference in cost if I buy the material our self versus just labor. Besides, what is the difference between LED versus normal light in price? Is it necessary based on your experience. We will be using 6 inches recesses lights. How do you determine the amount of recess light between each light? Between we would have to apply for permit right? I am looking forward to hearing from you.! [Member Name Removed] I was on vacation for my birthday 2 years ago when this job opportunity took place, not 10 months ago. Yes this report got to me a bit. What I don't read in this report is a complaint about the electrical work completed. No problems with the Electrical Main Service , the lighting final installation or the outlets installed. Just that they needed to pay an additional $700.00 for patching the plaster walls and ceiling. Of witch I put out the high possibility of in the beginning of the job. We as a company will never turn our back on an issue and will stand by the work we complete. Paul S. Harris 310-864-7171 fairwayelectric@sbcglobal.net

I arrange for first service with no problem. The price was a little high for 30 mins of work but the tech, Jaime, was good. The problems occurred while trying to schedule another service. I texted the owner, Paul, an hour after the tech left to schedule a second job that the tech had quoted me while onsite. The owner said he couldn't send the tech out until the following Monday 7:30-8am. I confirmed the appointment time and took the day off of work. On Monday at 8:30am, I called the owner to see where the tech was. He said that he was at another job which was weird since I schedule a 7:30am appointment. He said that the tech could get to my house between 1-2pm that day. I said ok and waited. Guess what? 2:30pm rolled around and no call, text or email. I texted the owner "Just checking in." He informed me that they weren't finished with their morning job and he could come the following morning at 7:30am. I texted him that "I took off work for this appointment." Reluctantly, I text "please send Jaime tomorrow at 7:30am" Did they show up? NO. Did the owner call? NO. Did the owner text? NO. Email? Again NO. I haven't heard from them since. There's a huge lack of professionalism. If you are a busy professional looking to schedule a service with a reliable service provider, look else where. This is what you will get from this provider. Someone who can not manage his appointment book so he asks you to email him all the info. He will not contact you if he or his tech running late or if he or his tech is not coming at all. Huge lack of communication. But I did receive an email for me to review him. Priceless! So here's my honest review. BTW I never waste my time reviewing discrepancies but I felt so put off by this provider that I thought others should know. Plus, he asked for it via email! Good luck. May you find an amazing company elsewhere. Funny, How I'm not in his data base - yet we texted and spoke on the phone directly. When you have failed to provide good service - First, you apologize. Second, you try and fix the problem. You'll notice must of his responses to bad services provided to other are excuses. I only wish I could provide photo evidence to angie's list. Run people - trust worthy recognize fault.

Our regular electrician had replaced four old smoke detectors the same week but had to leave quickly due to a fire near his home. The chirping began shortly after he left and he couldn't return the next couple days. It was difficult to determine exactly where one of the chirping sounds was coming from. We used Angie's list to find another electrician and finally found Fairway Electric who was willing to come out the next day to figure out the problem. The electrician who came was very profressional and found the issues that were then resolved. The electrician was very careful to not soil our carpet. We were not able to reach the smoke detector ourselves since our ladder is too low. The owner called after the electician left to make sure everything was OK and also offered a discount on future service.
Description of Work: The provider found the source of the chirping from a defective smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector. The new smoke detector was defective and was replaced and we replaced the battery in the carbon monoxide detector. No more chirping.

Oscar and his young assistant showed up at 7am (which was good but unexpected) and they worked several hours and did exactly what I asked plus a little more, then cleaned up before they left. I'm very pleased with their work. $850 is a lot of money for me but they worked all day and did the job perfectly so it was well worth it. I'll hire them again for sure.

I called Paul Harris on a Tuesday to ask if he could rewire an outdoor lantern on Wednesday or Thursday. He said he could do it, and to email him the details, and he'd call with a definite time as soon as he got back to the office. I didn't get a reply until 7:30am Thursday, which was very last-minute, but he offered to send Oscar to take a look at the job within the hour. Oscar did a terrific job. He showed up on time, promptly found the problem and rewired the lantern, clearly explained everything, and also gave us helpful advice on a low-voltage lighting repair we would like to make in the future. We're very satisfied with the work that was done.

Spoke to Paul Harris, the owner and was able to schedule an appointment within the week. Jaime showed up right on time. He was professional, worked quickly and was able to assess what I needed right away. This company received great reviews on AL so I am surprised I am sharing an extremely annoying experience. I called the owner on March 19th to inquire about getting some small electrical problems fixed and getting a quote on the installation of some track or recessed lighting. After a very brief conversation the owner told me to send him an email with the details and he would be able to get back to me with a date to come do the work. He said he would would be able to do it early the following week. I sent him the email on the 20th with all the details and asking him to get back to me with his availability. I heard nothing. On the 25th I sent another note asking if this was something he would be able to do or not. Finally on the 29th he sent me back a note asking if I had solved my problems or if it is something I would like his help with. Well, maybe I expect too much but 10 days to get the attention of an electrical helper for a small fix and a quote seems long to me. I am not giving poor remarks or negative feedback on the work of this company, just the responsiveness. It was frustrating that when I spoke with him he made it sound like he would be able to help rather quickly and then he simply did not get back to me. My guess is he has a lot of great big jobs that he has going on and they probably make up the lion share of his business. Probably not a good provider for smaller jobs. If that is the case I think it would have been better to simply tell me no when we spoke or refer me to another provider. Just disappointed because I counted on Angie's List to give me a well regarded provider and it turned out to be a waste of time. Frank

I had a number of outlets and lights that were out and determined it was a circuit. It was Saturday and I called Paul at Fairway Electrical. He was on another job but was terrific in giving me clues at to what the problem might be. He was right, and thankfully I was able to fix it myself. He offered to come by when he was done with his current job, but it was not necessary. I appreciated that he called me right away and was very knowledgeable and not just looking to extract money, but rather honestly willing to help! I will call Fairway next time I need any electrical help! Thank you, Paul!

Every once in a while, you find someone who not only does what they claim they can, but goes above and beyond what we've come to expect from any professional service company, be they plumbers, or contractors, or, in this case, electricians. I have always been wary of electrical outlets, especially high voltage things like panels and such, and have always approached even simple tasks, like changing a faulty socket or switch, with great care. This last issue, though, was beyond my skill. I spoke to Paul Harris, who was polite, patient and professional. He listened to my description of what was happening, and after he tried to troubleshoot with me on the phone so that a service call would not be necessary (!), asked me to put it all down in an email, so he could assign the correct technician. We also discussed on Wednesday that Friday would be the next day I would be available to meet someone. Again, he was very easy-going and professional, and we agreed upon a reasonable time. Oscar showed up exactly on time, as scheduled. He was polite, professional, and competent. In approximately one hour, he had completely diagnosed the problem (a mis-wired socket on the outside of the garage, which had been attached to a switch in the garage I had never tried...until the other day), which he quickly repaired and set right. He even found another problem on another socket that was quickly made good. After all the work he'd done, quickly going from one room to another, never making a mess, I figured I would pay a much higher price than I did. Here's the thing with Paul and his crew - they want your business, and not just now, but in the future. I can tell you right now that I will never consider another electrician, so, if you're reading this, you can stop looking for the best of the best, because you've already found them. Run, don't walk. Give him a call right now.
Description of Work: Troubleshot a tricky (for me) electrical problem, where some sockets on a GFCI circuit worked, while others didn't...vexing.

I work in a medium-size office in Anaheim and we had power issues with four adjacent cubicles. The power blinked in and out for a few hours, and when I tried to check on the outlets, I moved a power strip then I heard loud crackling and a pop! that scared the bejeezus out of me. The breaker had tripped and after I removed the load from all the outlets and reset the breaker, there was no power to those four stations. The next day I placed a call to Fairway Electric, and Paul himself picked up immediately. After a brief description of the problem, he actually walked me through some steps I could safely take myself to resolve the issue. Well, Paul was right on with his assessment, and we were back up and running, after a 3-5 minute phone call! It's obvious the experience is there and the customer service is stellar! Should we need any help with our electrical in the office in the future, we will be calling Fairway Electric first. Thanks again, Paul!

Sunday night I attempted to switch out my own light socket as I have done in the past. When I went to turn the breaker back on, it wouldn't click all the way over and it made a serge sound. Right then I tapped out. I don't mess with electricity. I called up Paul and he had me send him some pictures of the breaker to get a better idea and make sure they any possible parts needed for the job. The tech came out the following morning. I explained that this had never happened before and it probably had to do with the light socket I had installed. He checked my work and everything was good except that the house was so old, in turn, the wires were really old and frail. One even had some of the copper showing. That one probably hit a screw which was disabling the breaker. He cleaned up/organized the wiring in the light switch, reassembled, and the breaker was just fine. While he was there I also asked him to replace the second light socket I was planning to replace just to be safe. He was extremely helpful and walked me through everything. All in all, took about 50 min. The price was great, and I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Switched out 2 light sockets and reviewed the breaker.

I read all the positive reviews on Fairway Electric and decided to give them a call. Paul was very responsive and sent Tommy out the next day. Tommy arrived right on time and started to work at 8am. He was very pleasant, very professional and very knowledgeable. I explained that a previous electrician had indicated that I had too many amps on one breaker and I would need to add one or two additional ones. That electrician said my existing sub panel would not accommodate more breakers so I would replace it and upgrade it. I had put off doing anything about this for awhile but decided I should get some bids. Tommy was the first to come out and he assured me that I did not have too many amps on one breaker and I did not need to upgrade my sub panel. I was very relieved to hear this, of course. I really appreciated Tommy's honesty and I had confidence in his ability, based on his thoroughness in answering my questions and patiently explaining everything to me. He spent about 45 minutes doing his assessment at no charge. While he was here, I asked if he could determine which plugs were on which breakers. He said he could do this for a charge of $85 an hour, which I thought was reasonable since this was above and beyond why I had originally called him out. Because of the age of the house and the various remodels through the years, some rooms were on one breaker, some were on three or four. The panel was not set up in any real logical or systmatic pattern, but after an hour, the panel was accurately labeled for the first time ever. I have used the services of many electricians over the years, but none that I have been satisfied enough with to call back out for this project. I'm so glad I called Paul at Fairway and I'm so glad he sent Tommy out. I now have an electrician whom I feel confident in, and I know I am dealing with a company that is honest, competent and reasonably priced. What more could you ask for! My brother-in-law was here at the time and is pretty knowledgeable about the basics of electrical work. He was very impressed with Tommy and said he, too, would definitely call him the next time he needed an electrician. Thank you Paul and Tommy!
Description of Work: I called Fairway Electric because I thought I needed a new electrical sub panel, based on input from another electrician. Paul responded the same day and said he could have Tommy out the next day. Tommy carefully assessed my electrical situation and said I did not need a new panel, saving me hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars. There was no charge for this assessment. But while he was out, I asked him if we could go through my panel and label all the breakers because they had never been labeled properly. He did this in an hour so I now know which outlets/rooms are on which breakers.

This is my second project with Paul & Co at Fairway Electric. The first time I was having some front steps poured and needed step lights installed. The mason said he could do it but it was immediately apparent he had no clue what he was doing, I needed a electrician asap. I called Fairway and Paul sent his guy the very next day. They did a great job throughout the process. This time around I needed three motion detecting flood lights installed and a level2 charger off the garage. I sent over some pics of what I needed done on a Tuesday and they were there the following Monday morning. They ran a 240 from the panel on the house to the detached garage along with a subpanel. The work was completed in a day and the install was very clean. I'll continue using them in the future.
Description of Work: Run a 240 line to the garage for a level 2 charger and install 3 motion sensing flood lights.

Paul, the owner aswers the phone right away and had the electrician over at my house within an hour a d a half with the necessary breaker. I didn't have to wait half of the day for service. Tommy the electrician whom Paul sent out was so professional patient knowledgeable and professional. He explained everything twice...once to my husband and then again to me when my husband had to leave for an emergency work meeting. Tommy had to deal with our very antiquated breaker panels which had no way to shut off the electricity coming to the house so needless to say it was very dangerous work. I had initially called because the power was flickering and the breaker box had a crackling/popping sound coming from it! Yikes! Tommy figured out a problkerm that another electrician (Amor Electric) misdiagnosed and the DWP emergency crew also misdiagnosed, too. (DWP came out late the night before on an emergency call because my breaker was making crackling noises and the power was going on and of for several hours until the power just completely went out!). Since it was a brraker problem for an electrician to fix, DWP advised that I call o e ASAP because it was an urgent fire hazard) After Tommy finished the work, he waited a while we made sure everything was working as xwe turned on all our lights and our electrical devices. He told us to call him of anything was not working of if there were any problems. Paul the owner called afterwards to see how everything went and gave me some very helpful advice regarding safety regarding a breaker box and tips on household electricity usage. I'm more than happy with Fairway and plan to use them again on the future to upgrade.

Since there was no power outlet in the ceiling, I was concerned that there were going to be a ton of holes that would need to be patched up. The installer did an excellent job of cutting a few small holes to get power to the center of the ceiling. What I thought would be a huge ordeal mess was done professionally and expertly.
Description of Work: We needed a ceiling fan installed in a 1st floor room that had no electrical box in the ceiling and could not be accessed from the 2nd floor.
