They send out two technicians who arrived without knowledge of the work to be performed. They were surprised by the work and didn't know how to do it. We ended up having to let them go. When we contacted the office they said that they would not charge us for the time and that they did not have anybody else they thought could do the work. It seems very strange that a company that does construction and has a contractors license can't do a simple assembly and install.
Description of Work: We contacted provider for assembly and install of a Murphy bed unit.

Response from THE ULTIMATE HANDYMAN A MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION
Hello [Member Name Removed], I'm the owner of this business, and recently I took over the client relations from an employee that was too comfortable in his position. I am revisiting all the problems reported by prospective clients like yourself. We have employees for each specialty, and perhaps they were not available at the time that you requested. So we may have sent someone to assess and see if they could do it. We searched our database and we could not find anything close to what you are referring. Can you give us some more information? Then I noticed your location is in Phoenix AZ. Would that be a case of mistaken company identity? We do not serve outside of Los Angeles. If so, please remove the review. Otherwise, please give us your address here so I could research what happened. We are trying to identify the problems to prevent what happen to you to happen to anyone else. Thank you for your review. Roney

The workers were courteous, considerate and professional, responsive to our requests, and left the worksite clean and tidy. We were pleased that contractor was able to find tiles and grout to match existing bathroom tiling, but there were delays in finishing the job, due to tiles and plumbing parts needing to be special-ordered. With better planning these could have been ordered and delivered prior to work starting, so the job would have taken less elapsed time.
Description of Work: Rebuilt shower stall, installed new lighting and re-plumbed bathtub, with associated tile work.

They arrived on time to put in the waterline. It took a little longer than they thought. They needed some pieces that I didn't have. We thought the workman was going to repair the wall too, but he said it was a job he didn't think he had the tools for. He called the office and we set up a timefor the other workmen to come the next day. . The next day service was considering part of the first day service so I wasn't charged extra for the other workmen to come the next day. We were satisfied with the service. They were punctual and professional
Description of Work: patched a major hole in the wall and several cracks. Put molding around the door back into place. ( It had been removed earlier by me and I was unable to put back properly.Connected refrigerator water line ( had to go under the house)

Very well. Workers were punctual, courteous and did great work. Cleaned up. Extra safety taken due to swimming pool in yard. Robert even went to talk to our neighbors because the worker's needed access to their yard to do the work.

They came out three times for three different things. They were reasonable. They were nice and very thorough. They seem to know what they are doing. I find it very refreshing. They are friendly and professional whenever they are here. They clean up after they are done with the work. I don't know about the price because they are the only ones I have used.

Prep and paint bathroom, and exterior electrical work adding an independent switch to exterior light previously switched on timer. Prep and paint all surfaces in bathroom including sink cabinet and interior and exterior of leaking shower; fix leak. I asked, do you want window, cabinet, and door hardware on and you can mask it or do you want it off and you can paint freely and then put it in (existing hardware already removed because I had planned to paint it myself)? They said, leave it uninstalled so we can add it in later without paint all over it. Somehow they managed to install it in such a way that it fell off a few days after the tenant moved in a few weeks later and still managed to glob paint all over the hardware. I asked them to address the leakage of the shower in the course of prepping and painting the bathroom. They replastered but did not address the leakage so that the leak caused the plaster to again bubble up and fail within four weeks of the tenant's occupancy. They failed to paint the sink cabinet. When I brought this to their attention they promptly came out and painted it but W** with all the rest of the lame work - why not at least paint the obvious surfaces they agreed to paint? Much inconvenience for a fix that should clearly have been done the first time. For the electrical work, the request was to provide a switch for an exterior light. It took five or six hours of labor for them to supply a conduit, the wiring, and the switch between a light fixture and the newly installed switch that was four feet away. I don't know about that. They said it was extremely complicated and I don't see why, but I give them the benefit of the doubt because I am not an electrician, but still... four feet of conduit and a switch taking five hours at $65 per hour???? Overall, the other two handyman people I contacted through Angie's List scheduled appointments for estimates and then failed to show up at all; these guys returned my call, but I was hoping for more than merely that. I have to admit I have not even reviewed the other two. The Ultimate Handyman gave me (inaccurate and lowball, IMHO) estimates over the phone but i have to say, to their credit, at least they showed up and attempted to do the work. I respect them for that but showing up and doing lame work is not what I expect for paying the high dollar I feel they charged. In retrospect, half-assed handyman services are not worth $65 an hour, especially when charged by a contract agency that does not QC the suppliers and the work.. My advice is, be very clear as to scope of work - are you clearly asking them to fix a permeable surface or just asking them to plaster over what is obviously an ongoing leak? How long will it take to add an electrical switch? If they are going to paint, is it super, crystal, beyond any shadow of a doubt, explicitly clear that they are also going to prepare the surface so the paint does not immediately peel off? I would not use these guys again but I also failed to get estimates from several vendors who were at least willing and able to come and estimate. I went with these guys based on a telephone estimate and the fact that they were willing to give a firm estimate (which turned out to not be firm) and to commit to a specific time to come and do the work (which they also failed to show up for, but did come within a day or two). Cannot recommend this company. Kudos to them for organizing what appears to be a coherent, structured set of services but they do not begin to deliver on that promise. Ultimate Handyman is lame and you would be just as well off, and would save a lot of money, by going through alternate vendors.

We found The Ultimate Handyman service through a friend, and absolutely loved them. We had them come to fix an electrical problem, and and to fix our front door, which was hung incorrectly. They took care of both problems in one day, under budget, and cleanly. Their man came with most of the materials he needed, had to make one quick run to a local store to get a few things for the door, but he gave us the receipt, so we didn't get charged on top of the labor fees. I would use them again, have recommended them to our neighbors, and would suggest that you try them as well.
Description of Work: We had some pot lights that weren't working, an exterior security light, and two sockets that had died for some reason. We also needed our front door rehung.

Response from THE ULTIMATE HANDYMAN A MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION
When someone tell us in advance that they are from Angies list, with the hopes of getting better treatment or better prices just because they pay a membership to obtain my information, I'd rather not do business with them. The probability of this being a negotiation technique, it is obvious that any smart business person will either pad their prices to cover for the special treatment or they will walk away before self-entitlement settles in and relationships get sour. Note that all of our negative reviews are those that somehow we turned down or walked away. So be a wise shopper, don't tell anyone that you are an Angie's list member until you hired the professionals and obtained the services that you are contracting. Only then a review will depict the true nature of the business. Thank you for the good rating on pricing even though our price was inflated. Best regards

He was exactly on time. Worked consistently with no breaks; moved the old a/c units downstairs...found a bum in the alley that wanted them, came and checked with me before he gave them to the man; made a great suggestion on how I can get them to look better by buying molding and just tacking it around each unit.. They have a flat fee for the 1st hour, then each additional hour that's broken down by the quarter hour. With 10 minutes to go, he asked if I had any more projects and darn if he didn't hang a mirror on the hall door for me in 10 minutes (or less!).

I called Robert Vega the manager/owner a couple of weeks ago, explaining the need for a new door. We decided after consultation that I would order the door from Stock Building Supply (another great company) and Ultimate Handyman would pick up the door. I notified him on Thursday that the door was ready for pickup, and that it would be a fiberglass-clad wood-core door. We set an appointment for the following Monday to start at 9-10 am. Umberto, their door man, arrived at 9:45 am, neatly dressed, courteous, prepared with a full set of tools. He immediately began work, removing the old door and routing hinge recesses on the new door. When it came time to cut the large holes for the deadbolt and doorknob lockset, he decided that his existing hole saw was not sufficiently robust to drill a clean set of holes in this fiberglass-clad door. He apologized for this, went to Koontz Hardware (the best hardware store in the entire world IMO) and took a well-deserved lunch break. When he returned he finished the installation; the door was perfectly aligned, all the hardware worked correctly, and Umberto cleaned up the sawdust and other debris. There was a brief discussion with Robert about the half-hour to get a tool from the hardware store. When I reminded him that we had discussed the fiberglass door in advance, he quickly agreed that being fully equipped with the right tools for the job (when the need was predictable) was Ultimate Handyman's responsibility and deducted the half hour from our bill without any argument. Umberto was professional, courteous, personable and a very hard worker. I feel we got our money's worth. This is the second time we have used this company, and we were well impressed with the quality of service and their responsiveness to questions and concerns. It's more like working with your best friend instead of a contractor. They stand behind their work.
Description of Work: Remove storm-damaged exterior door, install new fiberglass exterior door, transferring existing hardware; reinforce threshold sill plate.

The drilling cost $500 and this was in March. The plumbing work cost me around $200 and this was done in June. I was really impressed with the drilling work they did. They came when they said they would. They knew what they were doing and did the work very quickly. They were very clean. It was pleasure working with them. The plumbing work was also good but I think it was a little pricy. However, they did a good job and took care of everything. I don’t think I have a complaint about them. I think the plumbing was a small job and that is why it was more expensive. The drilling work they did was good. It was drilling through a wall and foundation so that I can have a sump pump exhaust line. It was just drilling, and they put the holes where I wanted to. The work was really clean, and I really appreciate their professionalism. The guy was nice. I would rate the drilling team an A and the plumbing team a B. I may not use them again for plumbing, but I will use them for other things.

The air conditioner was improperly installed earlier. They came out and did the work. They charged $450. It was a four-hour job. They have a very clear flat-rate system. They explain the breakup. So, it is fairly clear how their pay scale is going to work. They couldn’t give any guarantee until they opened the wall. So, they did the work on an hourly basis. We will consider using them again in the future.

From the moment we called, when they were very upfront about minimum charges and how time is charged (portal to portal, including trips to get necessary hardware for a job), to their punctual arrival, they were professional in the extreme. Courteous, efficient, and effective, they were a delight to work with. By the time they finished, they had accomplished the tasks set before them and cleaned up after themselves. An absolute delight.
Description of Work: They rehabilitated 50+ year old aluminum sliding glass doors, replacing or repairing the roller assemblies so that they now slide easily with one finger. They also rehabilitated the tracking and replaced the screens on two sliding screen doors and totally replaced a third. After their arrival, we asked about restoring an electric gate latch system to function, and they called in one of their electricians to repair that.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality of work and professionalism of this company. The gate looks wonderful. The only downside to this company is the price. It is a very high priced company (hourly rate) and it cost me more for them to install it than the actual gate. The owner Roney is extremely nice and easy to work with. He was recommended to me by a business associate after I had numerous disasters with other handymen. UPDATE: After a few months, the fence just never properly worked. I had to lift it up and then shut it. The hinges have come loose. Not easy to lock or unlock.
