He arrived punctual at 8AM the day the job was to begin. He and his one worker began ripping out the existing laminate, carefully because he had a friend who wanted the laminate. Greg and Mike, the worker, enlisted the help of my husband in moving furniture out of the living room. At 10AM, he stated he needed to go into town to purchase supplies and things that he needed. We wrote him a $500 deposit check that he asked for, and he promptly cashed it. We didn't hear from him again until 1PM, when he showed back up at our house. Shortly after, another worker arrived. Neither of the workers, Mike nor the young guy, knew what they were doing, and only did as Greg told them to. Eventually, furniture was moved out of our master bedroom as well, and the carpet was removed. Close to 5PM, the nail gun breaks, and Greg is unable to work anymore that day. My husband and I closely examine the work that had been done by the end of the first day. The existing laminate had been removed from my kitchen, dining, and living rooms, as well as the carpet from my master bedroom. Half my 1400 square foot house's existing floor was removed. The only part of the house he was able to successfully lay any hardwood was in the dining room, and only half of the dining room at that. The other half of the dining room was just racked. As my husband and I examined the job even closer, we found where 1/4" and 1/2" gaps were left in the nailed down floors. And several other spots where fingernail sized gaps were left. Also, against the wall, we found where a plank had been cut straight and nailed to meet a beveled edge. It looked terrible. Greg and his worker, Mike, returned the next day, but not until 9AM. I had taken the liberty of putting post-it's pointing at every gap that was left. My husband showed Greg, and Greg stated he had noticed a few of them the day before. He also blamed his younger employee (who was not there) for not holding the boards together when he was nailing. By 10AM, they concluded that the part for the nail gun they had purchased was not correct. He and mike left again to go across town to purchase the correct part. We were told also by Greg that we needed to purchase nails for the plywood that needed to be laid in our master. We asked him to pick it up, and charge it to our bill- my husband works from home and needed to meet a deadline. But Greg refused, and acted as though it was costly. My husband went to Lowes, and purchased a 5lb box for $11. The trip took maybe 40 minutes. By 12PM, we finally received a phone call from Greg stating they did not have the part, and he could not find anyone to borrow/ rent a nail gun from. He was going to drive to Home Depot and Lowes to attempt to rent one from there, but complained about the money. By 1PM, my husband called him to tell him we no longer needed his services.
Description of Work: Greg with Quality Floor Care was hired to rip out our existing laminate flooring/ carpet throughout our house, and to replace the existing flooring with hickory hand scraped hardwoods that we had purchased. At the price we had agreed upon, which seemed more than fair, he was only going to provide labor and tools needed for the job. All nails, staples, vapor barriers, and supplies were to be provided by us.
