Response from Acuterra Engineering & Construction Services
In our normal procedure all calls are logged with proper contact information, complete address and description of problem. These calls are then instantly forwarded to team members for followup. Sadly, we have no record of this call whatsoever. Often clients with urgency will call several times in an hour and also call other engineering companies looking for the quickest response. I would think that we would have gotten a second call if we were slow in responding. That followup call that would have received immediate attention and prompted an internal review of the delay. I can't help but wonder if perhaps this client confused us with another call she placed. Regardless, we will treat this as an internal customer response failure and are certainly sorry that she wasn't able to get the immediate attention that she needed.

Description of Work: I hired Acuterra to assess the stability of my foundation as I had a crack develop on my wall and ceiling that kept growing. The owner charges a nominal fee to come and assess your concerns and he spent quality time looking over my house. Thankfully I did not have need for additional work, but I learned a ton and really felt comfortable with the integrity and professionalism of the owner. I would definitely consider hiring this firm again for any foundation or drainage needs.

Called him. Set an appointment to get a quote on a property we were purchasing. He didn't show for appointment so I called him and he said "Oh, I called you to confirm the appointment and there was no answer." The appointment was at 12 noon. 12:10ish I called him. I hadn't received a call on my cell so I checked my home line. Sure enough a message was left at 12:01 on my home line. He said he could be there in 15 minutes. He got there in about that time. I asked for an estimate for drainage and/or a retaining wall. He was there about 30 minutes or more walking around and admiring the whole property. Talking about structural issues of different items, electrical issues. Never did get a quote until a week after we backed out of the purchase of the property.
Description of Work: Did not perform a service.

I was indeed 15 min. late for this appointment... Guilty as charged. However, when I told the client that it might take 7 working days to generate the report, she asked if she could get it sooner. I told her that I wasn't sure, but I would try. The report was sent out (via e-mail in a PDF format) within the timeframe. However, apparently she had moved on to a different property. I called to follow up, but she never responded. Note: We did not charge for this report. I spent a total of 5.5 hours working on her property (including the site visit). Russ Pogue

When we first received Acuterra's bid for the required foundation repairs, we were shocked at the high price, but after receiving additional bids from other companies, Acuterra's bid ended up being the lowest. Not only was their bid far less than others, they were also, by far and away, the most professional. Our job was extensive and required heavy equipment all over our yard. We were convinced our our property would never look the same! However, when the work was completed, Acuterra's crew used photographs to rebuild our landscaping just as it had been before the repairs had started. It was amazing! In fact, they also brought in additional plants and flowers to create a much thicker and richer look than we had before they started (clearly illustrated by the "before" photos). The funny part was that their contact clearly stated that we would probably need to hire our landscaper to restore the property. We were completely prepared for the additional cost, but the property looked so good that we never needed any additional landscaping services. Acuterra did a great job!! They under-promised and over-delivered!!!!!!
Description of Work: An extensive French Drain system and the stabilization of the front of the house that had settled over 2-1/2", causing problems with doors and windows. The solution required twelve (12) concrete and steel "underpinning" piers drilled 14 feet deep and a huge concrete beam that connected all of the piers...it was very involved and impressive!

Went very well. I must add that I had another home to live in during the construction time so I did not experience the jack hammering and other noise/dust to do the project. They performed in timeline estimated at cost estimated and did a couple extras for no charge: replaced an unrelated, aging underground pipe and used metal sanders to re-open my security doors and gates that the foundation shifted shut and that I would have needed a locksmith to address. The biggest thing was that I felt confident in the work being performed and got updates as it was performed.
Description of Work: My house kept shifting b/c it's built on clay and has poor drainage. I had already had my foundation redone 2 years prior by another company. Since I couldn't open some doors and kept having exterior and interior significant cracks, I sought an assessment and repairs from both Acuterra and my foundation company. I went with Acuterra, which trenched around 3 sides of my house, installed sump pump and well to move water out to street. They needed to trench through part of my driveway, through my former garage (now studio), and thick concrete back patio. In addition to the french drains put in on 3 sides of home, I had them remove my water heater and replace with a tankless (to open up limited space on side yard where they were trenching anyway), and had them finish backyard with stamped concrete in place of cracked, homely existing concrete patio. Job was quoted and more money than my original foundation company, but it included a well/sump and more thorough coverage of my property. I went with them b/c I trusted their assessment and checked some of their work history which gave me confidence with Acuterra's work.

I had many communication errors with this company. Russ Pogue came out and we discussed my drainage and foundation problems. He said he would email me an estimate. A few weeks later he called and left a message asking if I had received the email. I returned his call and left a message saying no I had not received the email, was still accepting bids and would he please resend his estimate. Another few weeks passed and I received another message asking if I had received the estimate he emailed. I called and spoke to Russ and said I had not received the email containing the estimate and had the work done by someone else. He did confirm my email address and then began recalling when we last spoke on the phone. The only time we had spoke on the phone was the initial contact. I did not get a good "feel" and am glad I used someone else.
Description of Work: I had subterranean water under my garage slab and needed a french drain installed along with a sump pump/well. Garage slab had to be removed and repoured.

I spent over an hour reviewing this client's property, then produced a report that took another 3 hours. I actually sent this report three times not twice. This client seemed very distant and standoffish when we met. I clearly got the feeling at the time of inspection that she did not like anything I was telling her. She was quite resistant regarding every suggestion made and actually made me a bit uncomfortable. I have no idea what was happening to the reports I was sending, but I was happy that she found another company that she was comfortable with. Russ Pogue

Russel showed up on time and submitted a detailed proposal. The price was in the middle of the estimates. His understanding of the soil and drainage problems sounded good. The work under the house was incredibly hard but his crew got it done well and ahead of schedule. Will update report during the rainy season.
Description of Work: 1- Installed perimeter footing drain around the entire inside of the foundation under the house(crawlspace),using laser leveling. 2- Excavated a 60" well with sump pump and 3" exit drain and discharge line to street.

I thought the quality of work, professionalism, and cleanliness were all spot on and fantastic. Just a few minimal complaints but does not cloud my opinion about the quality of work. 1. This company did not accept credit cards and I thought that was a lot of money to write checks for. 2. There were several times that the employees were late for our scheduled meeting time. One of the times, they were more than 30 minutes late. Normally this wouldn't bother me that much but I had to miss plans to accomodate waiting around for them (they did apologize and said they had a valid excuse). Without these minor issues, I would have given them an A but I also know that the work was one of the higher estimates that I got. It may have been worth the money for the quality but there is no way of knowing for sure. I think it is still worth using them and I would use them again but I would not book an appt for a time where I might need to leave to go somewhere else and get competing offers to make sure their bid is fair in your opinion.
Description of Work: I hired Acuterra to install french drains in my side yard as the water was pooling significantly next to the house and could have caused major flooding.

When I called them out of the yellow pages, Russell Pogue set up a meeting with me to explore ways to keep water away from the slab for the house, which had been allowing moisture to affect the interior flooring. Although the quote was expensive, my decision to proceed was based on doing it right the first time. As the inevitable surprises and problems arose, Mr. Pogue met with me to explore options and solutions, and everything was resolved satisfactorily. The job is complete and looks great. The investment should pay off for decades, and I feel the surprisingly (to me) high cost was worth it.
Description of Work: Acuterra installed two french drains with a stamped concrete patio, trenched from the garage to the street for a drain for a washing machine, and designed a drainage system that should keep water away from the house. They were very professional and thorough in their work, with good attention to detail. They were educative about options and consulted in a timely manner.

They were very professional and detail oriented. They were helpful. My house was sinking so my doors were jammed shut, and they fixed all of my doors so that I could get in and out of my house, they didn't have to do that. The owner kept me updated.

I called Acuterra from an on-line ad & was delighted to have a real person answer the line. It was Russell Pogue & he was both helpful & knowledgeable. Russ agreed to come to the property within 24 hrs. and conduct an inspection. He further agreed to submit a report in writing w/ a bid for repair within another 24 hrs. This was especially good as time was not on our side & we needed immediate results. Russ showed up to meet me as scheduled & was quite personable. He explained in detail as he investigated the lot, what he was looking for and suggestions he had RE: the current drainage system. The appt. took an hour or so & he took photos for the report. The next day, I called twice & left messages RE: the written report. Russ called back to say he was working on it & would have it for me as promised. That night, approx. 10 PM, I received an email w/the completed report attached. Although it ended up we did not need to use Acuterra, I would hire them again in a second. GREAT follow through.
Description of Work: RUSS POGUE OF ACUTERRA WENT TO THE PROPERTY WE WERE IN ESCROW ON & COMPLETED A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THE EXTERIOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM. HE THEN CREATED AND SUBMITTED AN EXTENSIVE REPORT COMPLETE W/PHOTOS AND A QUOTE FOR REMEDY.
