Description of Work: Terribly, one of the worst experiences ever. When I purchased the Big Deal I had read most of the reviews of the company that I chose to do the job I needed to be done, and was impressed with the grades and what I had read about them. I was given the contact information for Mr. Franco Lacobelli of A to Z Plastering and Handyman. When I spoke with him on the phone for the first time, I told him what needed to be done and he assured me that he could do the job in the time period allowed. He told me that he had other jobs pending already and that he would call me back to set up a date and time for him to do the job. When he called me back and told me that he wanted to do the job the very next day, I was taken back a bit, so I asked him if he wasn't supposed to at least come to take a look at what needed to be done, and let me know what other materials I was going to need before he came to do the job so time wouldn't be wasted. I told him I knew I wanted the top part of a fence painted and some other places inside painted or touched up and that I had already purchased the paint, paint handle and rollers, brushes, paint pan, etc. needed to do that part of the job, and I already had the floor tiles I needed to replace some worn out tiles, but I also knew that I needed other materials as well. He said "I want to get started as soon as I get there, do you have the paint so that I can get started right away on the fence?" I was puzzled since I had had just told him that but I said "Yes, but what about the other materials that I know you're going to need." He then said, "Oh don't worry about that, we can get that later, as long as I can get started when I get there." Then he asked if there was a Home Depot near where I live and I said "Yes." When he came, I showed him everything that needed to be done and asked if he was sure he could get it all done in the eight hour period. He said "Oh yeah, yeah, no problem, it's not that much to do, I can get it all done, don't worry, I will get it all done today." I was very pleased to hear that. I then asked him to tell me what other materials I needed. I knew I needed to buy a new sink for one of my bathrooms because I wanted to change it out, and I also knew I might have to purchase a new faucet for my kitchen because it was leaking around the base. He told me that I needed to purchase a whole new faucet set for my kitchen. Then in my bathroom he measured the inside of the sink from side to side and he measured from the faucet to the front of the sink. He gave me those measurements and told me that was the size sink I needed to purchase. There were also a few other things that he told me that I needed to purchase as well. He tried to extort more money from me from the very beginning when he got ready to paint the fence. The top parts of the fence that I wanted to be painted is about 35 inches tall and wood and the bottom of the fence is about 42 inches tall and brick. I only wanted the top part of the fence painted. He said "Do you have plastic for me to use because when I'm painting the wood the paint will run down on the brick ... and if I have to get the plastic, I will have to charge you more money?" I was again taken back a bit when he said that because in reading reviews about him, I knew that he provided some of his own material, had done painting before and that painters carry their own drop cloths. When I told him that I had plenty of plastic around my house that he could use and I had tarp as well, he just stood there for a few seconds as if in shock. I guess at that point he realized he wasn't going to get any more money from me. The next thing I knew and to my surprise and dismay he went to his truck and got his own drop cloth. He saw that there were cardboard boxes on my patio and asked if he could use one of them. I told him "Yes." He laid down the drop cloth, tore off a flap on one of the boxes and used the flap to hold under the top part of the fence between the wood and the brick while he painted the bottom part of the wood. I went back inside and left him to do the painting. However, when I looked out from time to time I noticed that he was going very, very slowly and wasn't making a lot of progress. But I felt he knew what he was doing. A short while later while he was painting, I went to Home Depot to pick up the items he told me I needed. To make a long story short, I found out from some of the associates at Home Depot that some of the items Franco told me to get didn't exist, and another associate at the store told me that the measurements Franco had given me for the bathroom sink didn't exist either. The associate asked me if I knew how Franco had measured for the sink and I told him. The associate then told me that he had never heard of anyone measuring for a bathroom sink that way, and the measurements that Franco had given me were measurements that Home Depot or any other store that he knew of had ever had and never will have. He said that was because they don't measure for sinks that way and the measurements Franco had given me were bogus measurements. I called Franco while I was at Home Depot and told him what the associates had told me about the sink and the other items that he had told me to purchase but seemed to not exist. He told me not to worry about it because we could get it later. I asked the associate what was the correct way to measure for the sink and he told me. So, after having to shop around a while in Home Depot for items that didn't even exist, I left Home Depot without being able to purchase the items Franco told me I needed because he had given me bogus information. At that point I felt really uneasy because it seemed to me that Franco didn't know what he was doing. Although when I had originally purchased the paint for the fence one of the associates at home depot told me how much I would need by the measurements I gave him, at the rate Franco was going and from what I was seeing of what he had painted so far and the way it looked, (some spots looking like they might need another coat of paint), I felt he might need more paint for the fence. So I purchased more paint just in case, and to have some left over to do touch up later if needed. Apparently while I was gone Franco had stopped painting, because when I drove up, he didn't see me at first but I saw him. When he finally looked around and saw me come around the corner of my house he got up and start painting again. He was still painting in the exact same area that he was in when I had left, then he continued to move around and paint in other areas. My husband came home a short time after that and Franco seemed a little uneasy when my husband showed up. My husband went to speak to him and told him that he what doing a good job. To my surprise, very shortly after that, Franco came around to my patio and told me that he was leaving and said "Well, I'm not going to be able to finish this today." I then asked him if he was coming back the next day to finish the job. He said "No, I have other jobs to do, but I know somebody who can come and finish it for you but it's going to cost you more money, maybe about another $240 to $250 dollars. I was more than shocked when he said that. I then said "What? Wait a minute. I've already paid to have all of this work done and when you got here and I showed you everything that needed to be done, you told me that you could get it done and get it all done today. Now you're telling me that I'm supposed to have to pay somebody else to finish doing a job that I've already paid to have done?" He then said "There's no way I can get all the stuff done you wanted done in today." I then said, that's not what you told me when you first got here and I showed you everything that needed to be done. You told me, no problem, don't worry, you could get it done and you could get it all done today." The patio door was open, my husband was just inside and overheard the conversation. He came outside to see what was going on. He asked me what was the problem and I told him. Then Franco started complaining saying, "They only pay me for 8 hours." My husband asked him "What are you talking about, who only pays you for 8 hours?" Franco said, "Angie's List, they only pay me for 8 hours of work." This had me even more puzzled because he hadn't worked for 8 hours but was in a hurry to leave after my husband got home. I was upset at this point because I had paid to have a job done, had been assured that the job would get done and get done that day, and was now being told that not only was the job not going to get done that day, but that I would also now have to pay somebody else more money to finish a job that I had already paid to have done. My husband was a bit upset too, but said, "Honey, do you have the number to Angie's List?' I said "Yes, I do." He then said "You're getting nowhere here trying to resolve this matter with him. Call the people who hired him, this Angie's List, tell them what happened and that you're not satisfied with the job that was done. Let them know that although you were assured that the job you wanted done was going to get done, and done today, it wasn't done, you didn't get what you paid for and that you want your money back." He then told Franco to go ahead and leave and said "We'll take care of this." That's when I went back inside and called you. The only thing Franco did was paint a fence and didn't even finish that part of the job. He repaired absolutely nothing inside of the house which is where I really needed the work to be done. My husband and I were both upset. After Franco left, my husband said "I never want that man back in this house or on this property again." Therefore, I'm requesting to have my money refunded so that I can hire someone else to finish the job.
