I had an extreme emergency, so I called Mike at BMO. He immediately returned my call and came out to my home even though it was after 8 p.m. at night. He immediately started to review my projects and informed me of what needed to be done and gave me an approximate estimate the very next day. I have used Mike for several home projects including federal facility projects through my employer. He still assists with federal projects. I have spent approximately over $250,000 on all of the projects that he has worked on for me. I know many contractor's and Mike is not only exceptional in his work, but he also cares and has compassion for all of his customers. I have not only used Mike, but I have also referred him to many other customers who were extremely satisfied with his cost and work. Other satisfied customers and I that have read poor reviews for Mike do not believe their statements as these individuals have never even used Mike's services. Instead of making these minor complaints they should have spoken directly to Mike regarding their concerns and he would have been more than happy to accommodate their needs. Clear communication is very important! I would highly recommend Mike and his team at BMO to work on any projects for you or anyone that you may know.
Description of Work: Replace water heater, repair garage walls, replace toilet and fix garbage disposal. Also, sewage pipe drain leak outside.

Thank you for your response. Based on the information that you provided my records show that we have never spoken or met regarding any home improvement projects. You may have gotten me confused with another contractor. Customer service and satisfaction have always been my top priority and I would have never treated a customer the way you had mentioned. If you would like recommendations on my work, I would be more than happy to provide you with them. I am sorry that you had to encounter such an experience. About a week after visiting the house, Mike called and provided a bid over the phone that was above my budget. In order to get a copy of the bid with all services itemized as well as a 3D drawing I would have to pay $150. Given that the bid was over my budget, I unfortunately had to go with someone else. However, I told him I still wanted to work with him on another project which was my two bathrooms. I informed him that I knew he would do a great job but that given I had to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms and had to pay for another month's rent in an apartment to allow time for the remodel, I would not be able to afford his bid. I told him that if he was interested he could still work on our bathrooms so that not all was lost. Instead of wishing us luck, his tone changed and he repeated that he did only quality work and used quality materials. I told him that as much as I would have liked to work with him on the kitchen, his bid was above our budget. I said he could come by next week to look at our bathrooms but he then said his schedule was booked. It's one thing to not win a bid because a potential client did not have the budget to make it work. It's another to make that potential client feel bad and insinuate that by choosing someone else the quality would not be as good. I was impressed with his initial contact and questions, but I was disappointed by the reaction I received after telling him I did not choose his bid due to budget restrictions. After that last conversation I was happy I did not go with him. A businessman should be willing to take good and bad news without a negative reaction such as I received. If he lost the bid, he should have just said good luck to us and left the door open for potential business.
Description of Work: The owner Mike came over to a house I just purchased to give me a bid on a kitchen remodel. He spent an hour and a half going over every detail of the kitchen I wanted. He also reviewed options with me and made suggestions to provide an accurate bid.

Response from BMO Kitchen & Bath Renovations
I am very sorry that we misunderstood each other and as a business owner I always try my very best to accommodate each customer to make them happy. Instead of calling me we should have spoken to each other face to face for clarity. At times, it takes a lot of time and resources to prepare and itemize a bid for a customer and even though I provide this service to customers like yourself they still may not proceed with my services. This is the reason why I charge $150, which is very reasonable. As I had mentioned, if you were to use my services then I would deduct this amount from your bill. For example, other service providers like Locksmiths, Sears, The Home Depot, etc. also charge for their services just to come out to your location before any work is even done and this is also a known practice in my industry. You never informed me of your exact budget amount, so I did not know your spending limit to accommodate you. At times, one does not fully compare contractor services and materials accurately, so this is why I had inquired about the materials your contractor was going to use. If I had also known exactly the cost of the services and materials the other contractor was providing you then I could have also worked closer to your needs and given you a more affordable cost. I understand that you were still interested in me to possibly do two bathrooms, but as I had mentioned my schedule was booked at this time which my schedule is based on my customer needs. Even though I had mentioned that I do quality work, I did not imply that the other contractor(s) do not do quality work. Since I spent a lot of time with you even though you did utilize my services, I wanted to reiterate that I do quality work as it sounded like you may have had some doubt. I believe a customer needs to be happy and make their own choices on choosing a contractor. Your happiness and satisfaction is most important!

I have used Mike and B.M.O. for over six years on projects ranging from very small projects as describes above to full house re-models with terrific results. Mike and his team are not only great contractors, they are great craftsmen. Mike has done two complete kitchen re-models and a "to the walls" house re-model and many small and medium size projects at my residence and at my rental properties. In fact I just talked to him yesterday about another home re-model. His work is always well planned and beautifully executed! Believe me when I say I have presented him with some pretty tough challenges over the years and he always figures out a way to get the job done at a fair price. I can't recommend Mike and B.M.O. too highly.

We contracted with Mike, the owner of BMO, to do a complete renovation of our master bathroom and to do a significant amount of work in our kitchen. Mike was fantastic to work with, was exceedingly professional, did amazing quality work, was very competitive in his pricing, and always met his commitments. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needs work on their house and I can't imagine working with anyone else on our house. If you're looking for a professional contractor, Mike is the perfect choice. We recently bought a 1950's cape cod two-story house. It was well cared for but the bathroom and kitchen were both vintage and needed a refresh. When we first spoke with Mike, he gave us a rough idea of what it would cost. He charges $150 for a detailed estimate, which was well worth the cost and he'll credit it back if you decide to hire him. That estimate proved to be invaluable because it allowed us to tailor the work to be done, easily identify the major cost drivers, and provided a convenient way to track project progress. Mike's estimate was both reasonable and less expensive than bids we had gotten from other contractors. He was willing to work with us on the scope of the job so that we stayed within our cost target and was very flexible in adjusting the designs to suite our needs. It was very unusual how willing he was to partner with us on the project and he did not object to us doing some of the work ourselves. He acted as both our general contractor and project consultant--a very unusual but indispensable combination. The quality of his work is top notch. Mike prides himself on doing the work correctly and was quick to correct or advise us on any problems he saw. He has a deep pool of trusted folks he works with in the trades, all of which did great work. In the end, Mike converted our single shower/tub into a completely new shower and separate drop in tub with a tile surround. He re-did all of the plumbing, including repairs to a drain pipe when he discovered a major crack. In the kitchen, he did most of the renovation, which included skim-coating all the walls, fixing the plumbing, installing the cabinets and flooring, and took care of all the appliances. He never took a shortcut, even if that meant working late on a Saturday to finish the job. While he wants it to be done correctly, he's very flexible and was willing to work with us on many occasions to find a workable solution. Besides his attention to detail and quality work, Mike did an amazing amount of work on a very short schedule. In less than a month, he completely renovated the bathroom, did all the kitchen work, handled multiple change orders, and took care of multiple repairs that the house needed. He was extremely responsive to our phone calls, e-mails, and text messages. He always showed up when promised and had his crew ready to go at every step of the project.

BMO is a top-notch provider. I had some wood kitchen cabinets installed and I needed to have them spray painted Linen White. I chose Mike based on his responsiveness and customer service. Mike and his team worked with us to meet some agressive schedule deadlines. He would have finished sooner had it not been for the rain! On inspection, I noticed a couple of spots that needed redoing and they did them right away, no problems, no complaints. (Some vendors can get very touchy when you point out a flaw, but not these guys.) The cabinets are so beautiful! I couldn't be happier.

Our nearly-unusable kitchen needed to be completely gutted and rebuilt. Mike and his crew took care of it from demolition to final inspection. Mike is very professional, easy to work with, and clearly takes pride in and enjoys his work. When we started, we didn't know what we would find behind our 85-year-old walls, and we had a lot of surprises. We encountered many unexpected obstacles, and Mike calmly and creatively took them in stride. In the end, we spent a bit more than we had hoped to, but it was absolutely worth it. We're very happy with our new kitchen and will definitely try to use Mike for other big projects in the future.

I was in a desperate situation because I only have one bathroom, so Mike scheduled the job when he could concentrate totally on my house and not be pulled away to other jobs. He left the old toilet to be removed at the last minute and hurried the installation of the new toilet so I would not be inconvenienced for too long. Mike and his crew were so nice, polite, and professional. They did a great job on everything and always cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day. They arrived early in the morning, worked hard all day long, and often stayed until after dinner time. When the inspectors came each time, Mike's work always passed with flying colors. The man knows what he is doing! I am very pleased with BMO's work and will hire them again for my next job!
Description of Work: Mike Burcea first came over to look at the site and write up an estimate. He was very up front about the time the job would take and the cost and I didn't get hit with unexpected higher costs as the job progressed. I bought all the materials and had them delivered in order to be ready when Mike was free to start the job. Mike and his crew demolished my 1950 bathroom, removing the tiles and flooring, most of the walls and the subfloor. He installed a double layer wooden flooring, rebuilt the walls with several coats of concrete and plaster, finished the walls and floors for tiling. They installed new tiles in the shower, a new tile floor, a toilet, a bathtub with a shower, a vanity and sink with all new copper pipe plumbing. They also installed a fan and heater in the ceiling where there was none, a new medicine cabinet and lighting, and the requisite switches and sensors. Because my house needed an upgrade to the electrical panel, Mike installed a new, more powerful electrical panel that would handle all the electrical needs of my house now and in the future.

We wanted to remodel our 80-year old kitchen and had a tough time finding contractors who would a) timely return a phone call, b) submit an estimate that properly reflected the scope of work, or c) show up on time for an appointment. I turned to Angies List and found Mike at BMO. What a dream come true! Mike was able to come out to review our project on the same day I called, and had an estimate to me within 24 hours. We had a contract and time schedule in place within a week...and the work got started and was completed exactly on time (actually a bit early!). Mike is very responsive, always prompt, and always courteous. Due to the age of the original kitchen there were a few "work arounds" that we needed to do, but Mike always had a great solution. We are so pleased and already have signed on with him to do our next project.
Description of Work: Demoed existing kitchen, repaired drywall, made and installed new kitchen cabinets, installed new dishwasher, sink, faucet, installed tile backsplash
We had the most positive experience from beginning to end! Mike and his crew (Tony, Jose, Francisco, and Walter) were a delight. Mike controlled his employees and subs, and always introduced us personally and let us know exactly when they would be here. They all worked hard all day long. Incredibly, Mike and his crew were CLEAN! They laid down a thick cardboard from the bathroom to outside, and Mike even folded edges on the ends to keep the debris off our wood floors! Someone, usually Mike, swept up every day and left their materials in order. It was truly amazing. Mike is detail-oriented and has high standards for completed work. For example, our pantry cabinet had a long visible edge where the spray paint had soaked in instead of covering, leaving an unsightly bare wood edge 1" wide all down the length of the cabinet. One day we found Mike had taped this area and spray painted it himself in the exact same white as the cabinet! It looks perfect. I had a list of about a dozen items towards the end of the job, but I did not even have to ask Mike to do them! He just went around working from his "internal list" and completed every last item on his own. (A prior remodeling experience was nothing like this.) We now have a beautiful new bathroom that is like being in a luxury hotel every day!
Description of Work: We ended up only interviewing two contractors for this job. After we interviewed Mike, we knew we wanted him to do our bathroom renovation. Mike was soft-spoken, showed interest in our job, and did not pressure us at all. Mike and his subcontractors did a complete bathroom renovation. Our existing bathroom was small (8' x9'), windowless, and unattractive, having been remodeled poorly sometime in the seventies, we guess. We knew there had been a big flood at some time and suspected broken floor joists. Mike took the room down to the studs and subfloor. The joists were okay but Mike had to rebuild the subfloor entirely (prior owner's mickey mouse work). He completely rewired the room electrically. He installed brand new plumbing pipes in the bathroom. While the floor was open, we decided to re-pipe all the plumbing, which had not been done before. Mike had us work with another plumber who also was great. We were asked to purchase most of the items we wanted - toilet, sink, bathtub, ceiling and wall lights, Solatube, ceiling vent fan with a sensor, medicine chest, all tiles and grout, pocket door, paint, hardware and cabinets. During the process, Mike was always helpful in providing proper measurements and giving us design ideas. When we had collected most everything, Mike started the job. Several times, we ended up not having a part we needed, and Mike the magic man would say, "I think I have that in my truck." Sure enough, he would return with the necessary part. When he went to install the cabinets that we purchased he found cabinet bases hadn't been included in our order but rather than waiting for a new one to be sent he simply built better ones himself. He also built a custom threshhold for the doorway.
Mike stood out from the other contractors that bid on this project because of his professionalism, attention to design detail and low-key approach. Most of the other contractors were frenetic, high-pressure types that we crossed off the list easily. When meeting with us, he explained that he would provide a free summary estimate and that it would cost $100 for a detailed estimate because of the time he has to invest in putting that together. That $100 goes toward the job if BMO does the work. We decided to pay for the detailed estimate and definitely feel it was worth it to get the detailed breakout. Mike provided the detailed estimate to us in a very timely fashion and we made the decision to go with BMO for the project. Mike was flexible in planning the project schedule and his communication with us throughout all phases of the project was the best I have ever seen - he always told us exactly when he or one of his team would be coming next and what task would be handled. As typical in renovation projects, there are bumps in the road and, when we faced these, Mike always explained the issues to us and our possible options. For example, he found that the plumbing lines leading away from the bathroom were corroded and clogged. We were not expecting to have to replace those with this project but Mike took me down under the house to see the pipes and the leaks and explain his replacement recommendation. Mike does not take shortcuts and makes sure that each part of the installation is up to code, safe and designed to last. The only part of working with BMO that was new to me, and a bit challenging at some points, was the request for us to purchase and pick up some of the rough materials ourselves, such as plywood, baseboard and casing. I also provided all the lights, dimmers/switches and outlets but that was more up my alley, and of course the customer also provides items like the tub, toilet, sink, faucet, shower valve/trim and exhaust fan. The bathroom, closets and hallway look fantastic and we are already thinking about future renovation projects that would involve Mike and his team at BMO Kitchen and Bathroom Renovation.
Description of Work: Full bathroom remodel including demolition, plumbing, electrical, framing, drywalling and tiling. Install of shower glass. Install of sink and lower/upper cabinets. Install of new bathroom window. Install of tub/shower and toilet. Framing and install of new door. Framing and electrical for new closet. Install bifold doors on two closets. Install of baseboards in bathroom and hallway. Install of new casing, sill and molding in bedroom window. Repair of plumbing lines due to age/corrosion.

From estimate, to starting and completion, Mike and his team were great. As always, Mike was very patient in explaining everything and answering all of my questions. I was happy with Mike's work and would use him again.
Description of Work: Mike has worked on several remodeling projects for me over the years and is the first person I call when I want to have some work done. He performed a full kitchen remodel including installing the kitchen cabinets, building a custom crown moulding from pictures I had, moving the gas, water and waste lines as I wanted to move the placement of the appliances, installing the applicances (refrigerator, cooktop, oven, hood, built-in Microwave, garbage disposal, hot/cold filtered water system), side mouldings, caulking, door and drawer hardware and a high-end combination stone and marble backsplash. He also moved a small small wall to accommodate and install a huge stainless steel sink.

From the start, i was extremely impressed with Mike. He was extremely knowledgeable and gave me some novel remodeling ideas. As an example: I wanted a kitchen island but it seemed hard to place, for various reasons. Mike came up with the idea of doing a movable island, which I had not thought of. And Mike would build it himself. Many contractors are just managers (subcontracting out the work), but Mike actually actually does a lot of the work himself. In his home country of Romania, he taught construction, so he knows his stuff (who else would offer to build a movable island for you)? When I checked out Mike's references, they were very happy with him and spoke of his quality of work, his work ethic, and his reliability. I really liked Mike as a person. Mike is humble, thoughtful, and soft-spoken. He will not pressure you to choose him. Do not take this as lack of interest from his part. He is busy during the day doing construction, so give him some time to get back to you. When I got my estimate it was very detailed. He wanted to communicate his bid verbally (rather than by e-mail), which I appreciated very much. His bid was very competitive.I must have interviewed 8 contractors for my job, so I was very thorough. My decision basically came down to Mike and another contractor. I decided to go with another contractor for various logistical reasons and timeframe issues. This was hard for me because I wish I could have hired them both. I urge you to give him strong consideration for your next job! I know I will.
Description of Work: I got an initial estimate for remodeling work on my kitchen and 3 bathrooms (free) and then had him provide 3D drawings of my kitchen (for $150, which would be applied to the cost of the remodel).

Went pretty much as described above. No hitches, no problems. Mike is great.
Description of Work: I just bought a new house and the pressure in the master shower was too low. I called a plumber through my home warranty company who determined that the hot/cold control valve needed to be replaced. I had a handyman break the tile surrounding the valve so the plumbing work could be done. Once the plumbing was finished I need the tile to be replaced and wanted someone who new tile work better than my handyman to do the job. I called Mike at BMO and he was professional and informative on the phone. He came over when he said he would and gave me an estimate for the job. He explained the process of what he'd do and how he'd do it. He returned a few days later with another worker and the two of them finished the job with no problems. I also asked Mike about some other work and a few questions about some things around the house. He was patient and polite. I'd hire him again without question.
Mike said the entire job would take about 4-6 weeks, and that's exactly what it took--just over 5 weeks. Mike and his crew worked each day and occasionally on Saturday. Mike and his crew did an excellent job and we are very satisfied with the job. In the past, we had remodeled a kitchen in a previous home using a kitchen remodeling company. With that company we only needed to make design decisions, and they took care of everything else. When you work with a contractor like BMO Kitchen and Bath it's a little bit of a different situation. We needed to purchase some things on our own so there was a lot of running around to stone yards, tile places, places to buy grout, places to buy electrical fixtures etc...I'm sure we paid less by working directly with a general contractor like BMO Kitchen and Bath vs a 'one-stop shop' but for some people running around may be a bit overwhelming. We would definitely use BMO Kitchen and Bath again. We have another bathroom that needs to be remodeled and in the future we will certainly have Mike and his crew do the job. We have already given his name and phone number to 3 different friends who are looking to do work on their kitchens and bathrooms. I can't think of any better compliment to BMO Kitchen and Bath than referring friends to Mike.
Description of Work: We met with about 5 contractors and decided to go with Mike Burcea and BMO Kitchen and Bath. Mike was not the most expensive, nor was he the least expensive. We just liked the fact that he had some great design ideas that we had not thought about on our own. We was also a very 'low-pressure salesman' and that was nice as some of the others were not. Mike's team commenced the project exactly when they said they would and it was done within the time frame that they committed to. Which is certainly not the case for MANY other contractors. Mike completely demolished our old kitchen and built a new kitchen from the ground up. We also remodeled our pantry/laundry room area. Finally, Mike added a full shower with a travertine bench to an existing 1/2 bath. We needed to push out an interior wall in order to add the shower to the existing half-bath.
Mike, once again courteous and prompt, asked us what we were looking to do, and gave us a fair estimate (nearly half the price of what two other contractors quoted us). After telling us what supplies we would need and when (vanities, toilets, lighting, etc.), as well as the best places to get them (e.g. buy the subway tile at a warehouse so the unused tile can be returned; can't do that at a boutique), he went to work. Mike and his men demo'd our old laundry room, tearing out the walls and doors and re-framed, re-wired and re-plumbed it into a half-bath. He hung two doors and a window (also, gave a good recommendation where we could buy those), and drywalled the area. In addition, he re-stuccoed the outside where the old window and door were removed, matching the existing stucco. Finally, he installed the vanity, toilet, sinks and lights (also, did some re-wiring at no cost), and finished it with a very nice paint job. With the half-bath/powder room done, Mike and his men quickly went to work on the main bath, demo'ing and re-plumbing the old, corroded pipes, and replacing them and the rotten floor at a minimal cost. He and his men removed the old tub, vanity and toilet and set to work re-wiring and framing the room. He recommended a place where we could get quality trackless shower doors, and when it would be a good time to have them installed. At the same time, his people re-tiled the floor and bathtub, and he moved right on to drywalling. Mike then put up the crown molding and chair rail, and finished it off by installing the toilet, vanity and mirrors and painted the room. And when we decided that we didn't like the toilet and mirrors we originally installed, he removed them and replaced them at virtually no cost! Mike and his men did a great job, and we are very happy with both bathrooms. In hindsight, the only issue was our indecisiveness on what we wanted (mirrors, toilets, vanities, etc.). Mike was overly accommodating, and worked around our schedule whenever our items came in (luckily, he's usually booking that next job, so he could work on another project while we dilly-dallied). BMO did a great job, and we highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Converted old laundry room in a half bath, and completely remodeled full bath.

Once again, Mike gave us a very reasonable estimate, but gave the caveat that with the visible water damage, it was very possible that there was water damage we couldn't see. Once the demo'ing process started, it was obvious that the previous contractors (this balcony was done 5 years ago, and it looked terrible) had done a poor job, and there was indeed water damage. Mike made the adjustments to the cost (which was very fair) and finished demo'ing. He and his men then re-framed the balcony, plumbed it for drainage, poured cement and re-stuccoed the damaged walls surrounded the balcony. Finally, they painted, matching both the existing floor and house color. While before the deck was an eyesore (ugly and hard to clean), our new deck has a great look that blends perfectly with the exterior of our house and has been a great place to hang out. It may be redundant, but it's worth repeating: Mike did a great job at a very fair price, and was very helpful throughout the process, explaining each step. We are VERY happy, and will be looking to BMO again for our next project (as I saw another guy post, when your house is over 80 years old, fix-it projects always pop up, and Mike is the first person we'll contact)
Description of Work: Demo'd old, shoddy balcony with new
Mike's estimate was very reasonable (nearly half the price of two other bids), and he was always punctual and courteous. And if he ever was running late, he would always call ahead, giving us at least an hour's notice. Plus, everything was down on paper so you knew exactly where your money was going Mike was very communicative about what and when he was doing things (timetable), and was helpful in picking out supplies (doors and paint). The men who worked with and for Mike were also very professional and attentive, always cleaning the workspace after they finished. Mike and his men tore out the old walls, removed the floor and re-plumbed the area for a washer and dryer. He then poured cement, framed and drywalled the room. The last touch was painting, and then they finished by installing the washer and dryer. And when it was noticed that the old drain was clogged, Mike offered to clean it for free. I am a big fan of Mike's work, and as you'll see in our other reviews, he's done a number of (great) jobs for our old house.
Description of Work: Demo'd existing basement. Then framed, drywalled, poured cement and hung three doors. Finally, painted the room, converting the dingy old space into a nice, clean laundry/work room (also, Mike added a laundry shoot, building a cabinet upstairs that matched the decor nicely).

Mike came out and provided a detailed estimate and took the time to carefully explain each and ever item and the helped me figure out exactly what I would need to have done. Mike and his crew worked diligently and completed the job in a timely fashion and pointed out other items that may need to be replaced in the future.

Mike Burcea has done several remodeling projects on both of our houses in the last two years. He has completely remodeled three bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a family room, designed and built a beautiful custom fireplace mantle & bookshelves, and replaced and finished a large, wood picture window. His work is always excellent, and is performed in a timely manner. Mike is a true craftsman that can do just about anything. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

They were excellent, and we liked them a lot. We did not hire them, though. We have hired someone else, but we haven't gotten the work done by them yet. We would definitely consider using BMO Kitchen & Bath Renovations in the future.
Description of Work: We contacted BMO Kitchen & Bath Renovations to get an estimate for bathroom renovation.
Mike has worked on several projects for me. Everytime I inquire about a project he immediately comes to check out the work and gives me a clear bid in details which many contactors do not do. Many are vague and eventually up the price once the project has started. Also, Mike initially explains what work needs to be done and his suggestions. Being in charge of facilities for several buildings and dealing with various contractors I highly recommend Mike. Mike is licensed himself and does all of the work with his crew. Many contractors use estimators(sales people) or do not physically do or take part in any of the work themselves. Mike is a rare example of a contractor that also gets involved.
Description of Work: Fixed plumbing, bathroom fixtures and re-did tile floors.
