Description of Work: We have an old house in Pasadena. It was important to us to find someone local. I got 5 bids to remodel a kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It did not include cabinets, appliances, plumbing fixtures or tile. Both my wife and I liked Mike very much and hoped that his bid would be good. He was in the middle. | |The kitchen was a taken down the to the studs and the ceiling was removed. We also moved a window box and installed a new window in a different place. He put in new ceiling lighting, ran a new gas line and vent, hung drywall installed tile floor, installed cabinets, tile backsplash, quartz counter top, butcher block counter, installed appliances and painted. | |In the master bath we removed a tub and put in a walk in shower. All new tile, 2 niches, new plumbing, and electrical and installed cabinet and all fixtures. | |In a guest bath we kept the tub and retiled, and reversed he position of the toilet and cabinet. All new tile, 1 niche, new plumbing, and electrical and installed cabinet and all fixtures. | |We started demo on Dec 1 and we were finished by the end of March which was on schedule. Mike is on time and does most of the work himself along with one or two assistants as needed. He is very careful to hang plastic to keep dust down as much as possible. His attention to detail is amazing. You don't have to worry about quality because he takes such pride in his work. Since our house was built in 1925, it was expected that we would run into additional costs that could not be anticipated in the original budget of $54,000. The change orders were very reasonable. I also had him move a gas line, reverse the opening of the back door, move the water main and cut down the back of a kitchen cabinet and the additional cost was very fair. We are very happy and have since used him to paint the exterior of our house and install a fireplace mantel. I would recommend Mike for any construction projects, large or small.

He came to discuss the project in details. We looked at pictures and discussed various options on how the construction would be done. We then met with an architect. He was able to find all of the available resources and provide me with discounts or how to save money. He did not only do the work, but he interacted with my family(children) making all of us feel comfortable with him along the process. He did such a great job that I also hired him to do work at the federal facility where I work. I hire many contactors as I am in charge of operations and I would say he is the best I have worked with.

They were very good and I liked them but I did not end up using them. They came out the next day to meet up with me in my house. I liked working with them. I went ahead with another company which offered a better price than them.

We have used Mike at BMO Kitchen & Bath before to install our new kitchen cabinets. We were not able to order a cabinet to fit above our sink and kitchen window as the cabinet manufacturer didn't offer a size to fit. So while Mike was installing the rest of our cabinets I asked him if he felt he could build a custom cabinet to fit the space. It was an odd size, 50" x 12" or something like that. Our kitchen is small, so we needed to maximize the wall areas as much as we could. Anyway, he took all the measurements when he was there and took one of the existing doors in order to match the style and stain. I was pleasantly surprised when he came back to install it. It looked great, and matched our other new cabinets very well. If you were visiting our kitchen you would not be able to tell one of the cabinets was custom made. Great Job. My wife and I had another person set up to install our back splash tile in the kitchen, but he flaked and didn't call back to make final arrangements. So I hired Mike to install our tile as well. We had everything already at the house, as we were very particular about what we wanted. The tile was from the Heath Co. and is handmade ceramic tile. Anyway, Mike and his partner started installing the tile after they finished putting in the custom cabinet. My wife had a distinct pattern drawn out that involved two colors, and the guys followed it perfectly. It took them two days over the weekend to finish the install and grouting, and Mike then came back a few days later to seal the grout once it had fully dried. We are very happy with their work and are enjoying our new kitchen, and have other projects that I'm sure Mike can help us with.
Description of Work: BMO set our back splash tile in our kitchen and also installed a custom made cabinet above our sink.

I hired Mike from BMO Kitchen & Baths after having him come out to see our kitchen and after receiving his written estimate, which was very reasonable. Most of my judgement on whether to hire someone is usually based on meeting them when they come to scope the work, and I had a good feeling about Mike, and he seemed to know what he was talking about. Anyway, on demo day, he and his partner showed up on time and began work. In his estimate he specified that he would hang plastic sheeting so the dust and such would be contained. They did and also covered the floors. My father in law stayed while they worked and when I came home, they had done a great job and cleaned up after themselves, and there were no surprises of things being damaged or such. Once we had the electrical and plumbing done by other workmen, Mike and his partner came back a couple days later and began installation of our cabinets. I was at home for this, and was thoroughly impressed with both men's professionalism. They were fast and clean, but more importantly they did beautiful work and are very experienced. A couple issues came up that they were able to solve right on the spot. I had mistakenly ordered a cabinet that was too tall to fit over my fridge, and since the cabinet maker didn't offer a smaller size that would fit, Mike was able to disassemble the cabinet and trim off 7" and put it back together to where it looked perfect. Another problem was my walls and ceilings were not plumb, but Mike was able to cut filler strips in a way to hide the houses "quirks". He and his partner also drywalled a really odd looking punch through area that looked into the breakfast room. And their patching work was smooth as silk...top notch. Mike saved the day and made our new all wood cabinets look great. And from our various conversations, I could tell that he also knows a lot about electrical and plumbing too. He offered several tips on issues that the electrical and plumbing contractors would need to fix. Mike is also building a custom cabinet for me to fill a space over our window that the cabinet maker did not offer. I'm sure it will look great too, and will write a detailed report once he installs it.
Description of Work: Demolished old kitchen and installed new cabinets.

I contacted Mike Burcea because Angies List indicated that he installs kitchen cabinets for Home Depot and Lowes and he had great reviews. I bought cabinets from Costco through All Wood Cabinetry. Their price and quality were incredible. Their cabinets were all wood--no particle board, and they designed the kitchen for free. They were much better than Home Depot, Lowes or Ikea. But, they don't install. They referred me to Angies List. I called Mike and he promptly called me back and to set up an appointment. I asked him for a quote to install Costco cabinets and a kitchen exhaust fan. My kitchen is fairly large. I compared his quote with a couple of others. His was the reasonable and he engendered my trust by the way he presented himself. It was helpful that he was not only knowledgeable regarding kitchen cabinets but also regarding electrical and plumbing. He also provided me with several strong references. The start of the job had to be delayed because the kitchen was not ready for cabinet installation at the time arranged. Mike was flexible even though he had another job that he had to move to accommodate us. He came during a weekend and worked 2 days with his partner to get the job done. He wad careful and methodical. He advised me that my walls were not straight and gave me some options. He advised me about one cabinet door which was slightly warped. Costco didn't send enough scribe molding for the top. So, I had to order more. Mike came back 2 weeks later for FREE to install the remaining moldings. He went beyond the call of duty to get the job done and he did an excellent job!! He is an excellent carpenter. When you observe him and his partner work, they know exactly what they are doing and they are very careful and artful about the way they do the work. I highly recommend him!

We had know Mike when we had our kitchen remodel. He was the guy who installed the kitchen cabinets and crown moldings which we bought from Home Depot. He was the installer sent by Home Depot to do the job. Since we had a very good experience with Mike we decided to also have him install the crown and base moldings when we had the other sections of the house remodeled. Mike is a very efficient worker. When he encountered a problem with the cabinets above the bedroom closets as he was installing the crown molding he was able to intelligently resolve the problem and the result of his work was so professionally done that you wouldn't even noticed the change he made. He is very skillful at his job and he comes to the job prepared with his tools. He is meticulous in the performance of his work so that the homeowners are happy with the result. He is not wasteful with the materials you provide him. When we called him for the job, he came to the house to assess the job, he made his measurements, gave us a list of the length of the materials we needed and he emailed us his quote since we think that this was the fastest way to get his quote. Then we called him to tell him that we accepted his quote and made a schedule for the job to start. Mike always comes on time for the job and if something comes up beyond his control he will considerately call to let you know and arrange another schedule.
Description of Work: We did remodeling room by room of our house and we needed someone to install the crown and base moldings for two bedrooms, hallways, living and dining rooms. We also had door casing installed.

Years ago we met Mike Burcea when we had our kitchen remodeled. He was the guy who installed our kitchen cabinets and the crown moldings in the kitchen. Back then, we were very impressed by his work and for these jobs we have also decided to call him again, Before we called Mike, we hired a contractor for the remodel of an existing den and family room in the house to reconstruct it into new master bedroom suite. As part of our contract, the contractor was to build us a fireplace mantel, display cabinet, closet with shelvings, and a bar in a nook of the master bedroom suite, however, the contractor doesn't have a good carpenter to work on these jobs. He only provided the space for a closet but did not build the closet with shelves and all. According to our contractor the inside of the space he provided for the closet is not included in the price of the contract but it was written under our contract. My husband and I didn't argue anymore with this contractor since we just wanted the contractor to finish his contract. Since, the contractor couldn't find someone to do these jobs I introduce Mike to him and told the contractor that Mike did an impressive job of our kitchen cabinets and moldings around the house. The contractor agreed for Mike to do the job on the coffee bar nook and the display cabinet on the tub surround and we contracted Mike to do the fireplace mantel which we paid for and agreed with the contractor to deduct from his price what we paid for the mantel and we hired Mike to finish the closet. We appreciate the work that Mike does because not only is he a skilled master carpenter but he is also smart. He is able to tackle problems that he encounters in his job without complaints. He informs you of what he will do to correct the problem and his solutions are intelligently thoughtful. He is very meticulous of his work. He comes to the job prepared with his tools and materials. He is a considerate person such that when he works he makes sure that the outcome of his work satisfies the home owner. Mike is a diligent worker because he constantly puts effort in his work to finish his job on time unlike other workers who takes repeated breaks to put off their job. When you contract Mike for a job he gives you the price option with him providing the materials or the homeowner provides the materials. And if you choose for Mike to provide the materials for a job, he also solicits the opinion and preference of the homeowner. Mike also gives you his best advice for the job. Mike made us a reach-in closet just like the ones who see in a brochure of California closets or the website for closet by design, he made us a display cabinet that you see in the pages of a magazine for bathroom designs and a wonderful wall shelf for on top of our bar which he beautified with moldings and trims and a very good support for the granite top that was installed and he also made us a beautiful fireplace mantel much better than the sample we showed him.
Description of Work: We did remodeling in our house room by room and we needed someone to build a fireplace mantel in the living room and for the new master bedroom suite we needed to build a reach-in closet, an open display cabinet over the tub surround for master bathroom, and a wall box shelf for cups, wine glasses, etc. and the support for a granite table top for a bar nook in the sitting room of the master bedroom.
