I called the company and explained that the door opener had quit working and we couldn't figure out why. Two very nice gentlemen showed up within the hour... maybe about 15 - 20 minutes later and solved the problem immediately. I had rearranged some stuff in the front corner of the garage where the safety electric eyes were located, blocking the beam. This told the door circuitry that the door could not be closed safely so it wouldn't go down. They located the issue almost instantly and were nice enough not to make us feel too stupid about it, saying that it happened fairly often. They didn't even charge for a service call. Any time I need garage door work or if anyone asks me if I know someone "good", Plum will be the company I will call/recommend. Good Job Plum L-A-D!
Description of Work: We initially installed a replacement garage door opener on November 21, 2011. Our previous garage door opener was over 15 years old and quit working abruptly. Our neighbor recommended Plum Lift A Door and their quoted installed price in 2011 was very similar to over-the-phone estimates from other local garage door installers/repair companies. We were very pleased with the initial service - quick and neat installation of a very quiet Genie belt-drive opener and a few days later (11-23-11), an outdoor keypad opener control for a small additional charge. The opener gave us very good service until it suddenly stopped working early this year (2014). I am guessing at the exact date since I wasn't charged for the last service call, but I am pretty sure it was pretty recent. (See below for the recent details.)

It went really well. Both my remotes are broken and I called Genie company & they referred me. I called and left a message before they were open for business. I think it was Nadine returned my call shortly after 9. At first she offered me an appointment the following Tuesday, but I pleaded and she scheduled me for the same day, later in the afternoon. The tech turned up on time and though he only had one remote with him, he had a coworker in the neighborhood and ran and picked up a second one. He stayed after 5 on a holiday weekend and thoroughly tuned up the garage door and it purrs open now instead of clanking like a torture device! Great service very accommodating. Will definitely call them when the time comes for a new door.
Description of Work: Programmed two universal remotes and tuned up the garage door.

The experience was okay. They are a company running for a long time under Roger Plum and I think he passed away and was bought out by someone unrelated to the family. He maintained the name that's why I called them. The service is okay, he is very enthusiastic. There was way too much grease on the track which caught down on my garage door then ended to my house and down to my white carpet. That didn't make me happy but I think it was okay.
Description of Work: I used the garage door service of Plum Lift-A-Door Co. They provided maintenance on the garage door, adjusting the springs and lubricating the runners and chains of the garage.

They were responsive to our call even though it was during the Thanksgiving holiday. We told them it was not an emergency so we waited until Monday to get the door fixed. They fixed it quickly and efficiently.
Description of Work: Installed a brace on the door as a crack was causing it to buckle.

The appointment was cancelled 1/2 hour before someone was supposed to be here. I got a telephone call at 9:30 that morning & was told that "her son" is the repairman and he "has another full time job". She told me that he thought he would be off on this particular day but he had to work so there would be no one to come service my garage door opener. I waited 4 days to have my garage door opener repaired and now I have to try to find someone else.
Description of Work: I spoke to this company on 12/3/12 to have my garage door opener repaired. I was told the first appointment available was12/7/12 which I scheduled. I was told someone would be here between 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on 12/7. .

Response from Plum Lift-A-Door Co.
We are always hoping that our customers are satisfied with each part of our company's business from the first call to the completed job. The economy in recent years has prohibited us from having full time employees and instead we have tried to maintain fair pricing by utilizing two 1/2 time installer/technicians who both support their families with additional employment in the city of Ventura. Our father and son team are occasionally called to their public safety positions, on a day we didn't expect. Thankfully it rarely happens but when it does we do our best to notify our customers as soon as possible. Regardless a garage door that is out of service is an inconvenience and we surely understand the frustration a cancelled repair appointment can cause. As of October 1st we'll be resolving that issue with a new partner, proficient in installation, trouble shooting, and repairs and will be available full time 5 days a week. We again apologize for this frustration and understand the problem it caused. Sincerely, Dann Plum Owner Plum Lift A Door

My experience with this company was WONDERFUL! I had called around to other local companies and found no one interested in or knowledgeable about "repairing" a wooden lift-type door. The ones who came out said I needed new hardware, or they couldn't fix it. All tried to sell me on purchasing a new, "modern" roll-up door, which I did not want. I have a lovely, board and batten door that matches the front entry exterior of my house, and I did not wish to replace it with a roll-up door. This company was out of my immediate area, but I noticed in their ad the contractor license number started with a "2", which means they had been in business a very long time. When I called the company, I spoke to the owner, who confirmed that he had been in the business for 40 years +/-, and if my door could be repaired, his company could do it, but that I was out of their area of service. I explained my dilemma and said I wasn't too far away...30 minutes max. He agreed to ask his son, who said okay, and we scheduled an appointment for this last Monday, mid-day. He arrived mid-day, took a look at my door, kind of laughed when he saw how it was hanging, and said, "Yep...I can fix it. You've got great hardware. They don't make this kind anymore. Let me get to work on it." I was amazed. 30 minutes later, after much banging, hammering, and other noises, he called me out to take a look, and I was stunned, it was perfect! My door was "all better"...nice and straight, no more binding, sagging, closed perfectly, and QUIET. I was thrilled, and the price was very reasonable. I paid him, got a business card, thanked him profusely, and he left. Just goes to show you that there are honest, knowledgeable, professional service people out there. You just have to dig hard to find them. I would highly recommend this company for ANY type of garage door repair or construction, as they also make custom doors. They were an absolute pleasure to deal with.
Description of Work: Realign/reset a wooden garage door and hardware that was very noisy, out of square, out of alignment, didn't close completely or properly due to a jolt from a recent earthquake.
