Miguel will give a reasonable estimate, but he will try to rip you off any way he can once the work starts. He is not professional and his work is quite poor. I hired Miguel for some drywall work and tile installation for a shower and bathtub for a tenant in my apartment building. He gave me a list of what I needed to buy at Home Depot. After purchasing everything and bringing it to the apartment (which took over 3 hours of my time), he said he needed more drywall. I asked him to pick up the extra drywall, which he estimated to be around $40. When he returned, he gave me 2 receipts totaling $160, including lumber and metal brackets. I have no clue what they were for. What's worse is that one of the receipts was dated from a week ago, before I had even contacted Miguel for an estimate. I told him I would not pay for the receipt from a week ago and he got upset at me. I had to literally show him the date on the receipt before he calmed down. When he started doing the tiling, rather than using the new tiles I had bought at Home Depot, he used some old tiles he found lying around the unit. The tenant told him it was the wrong tiles and contacted me. When I told Miguel over the phone to start over with the new tiles, he got upset saying he tiled an entire wall, and that I needed to pay him $300 for the extra work. I agreed to pay him $200 for the extra work. However, when I spoke to the tenant, I was told that he didn't even do a quarter of the wall. After finding out Miguel was not being truthful, I told him that I would only pay him $100 for the extra work. When I inspected his progress, there were holes that were not filled in the drywall. I was told that there would be a metal frame around the tile when he gave me the estimate, but after the work started, he said it would be too much work. I was also promised that the faucets would be installed, but the drywall was installed too far from the from the plumbing for the faucets to fit into the valves. I was paying him daily, and after realizing that he was in over his head with the work he promised, he decided to quit midway and not compete the work! Please be careful when hiring this man and inspect the receipts he provides.
