Perfect. David Paine, the president of the company, is an honest businessman I trust completely. After interviewing other roofing contractors and being sorely put off by their pushy, aggressive salesmen insisting I HAVE to sign a contract then and there, David and everyone else I spoke with at their office was a breath of fresh air. No pressure,they got back to me the next day with an honest price quote, plain speaking and very comfortable. Their pricing was another reason I went with them. Quite nice, indeed. I would recommend Preferred Roofing Co. instantly to anyone needing this service.

We knew we had to replace the roof when we bought our home six years ago, but we held off as long as we could. It turns out we had two layers of roof – the top layer featured asphalt shingles, which were nailed to the original 1963 wood shake roof. In the last few years we’d had more and more asphalt shingles falling into our yard, exposing the original shake roof, so we agreed it was time to seek bids. After reaching out to several companies, we were impressed with Preferred Roofing’s solid presentation. David Paine is a roofing professional – he answered our questions directly and then took the topic to the next level by giving us additional information we didn’t think to ask; he shared his views openly on materials and design options; and he invited us to come check out his operation in Van Nuys. We were more than happy to take him up on his offer. We walked through the offices, checked out the warehouse area, and met the staff we’d been speaking with on the phone. We used the referral list to check out their previous jobs, and the staff contacted the manufacturer to get us addresses of homes that were using the newer model of Cool Roof tile we were considering. Preferred Roofing wasn’t the cheapest bid we got, but it seemed the most realistic as far recommended materials and design, the measurements they were using, the timetable they offered, and the detailed proposal and contract they provided. Other bids we sought were either nonresponsive or approached us in a way that seemed too general. The job started about two months after we paid our deposit. Work took longer than expected due to triple-digit temperatures. The crew communicated with us regularly and they were diligent about ensuring our home – especially our garden – was protected during the entire process. We had one instance of miscommunication from the staff that led to inconvenience on our part. When they learned what had happened they offered multiple, profound apologies. During the walkthrough at the end, David noted that the job site could be cleaner and arranged to have a crewmember come by the next day to clean up and run a magnet to remove any errant nails. During the job we were worried that overruns would boost the cost by 30 percent. In the end, our final bill was only about 6 percent higher than the original estimate due to additional charges, which we approved during the build. David and his crew were a pleasure to deal with, and we’re more than happy with the color and look of our new roof. If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn’t hesitate to hire Preferred Roofing.

How did it go? It didn't. When I first made my appointment two weeks ago, I made it clear that I would not be home. Sam assured me that it would be ok and that the estimator would simply call me if he had any questions. Well... first, the day before the appointment, Sam called to tell me that he double booked and my appointment would have to move. So, I rescheduled for today. When I rescheduled, I again said that I would not be home and Sam said it wouldn't be a problem. This morning, Sam called to confirm. I confirmed and once again told him I wouldn't be there. OK, no problem as the estimator would be there between 10am and noon. At 9:50 am, I got the call from Sam. Sorry, he said, the estimator requires that you are home... ***? Seriously? No, I will not reschedule. No I will not spend upwards of $10K-12K with this company. Why would I?

David Paine came and we felt very comfortable and we were impressed. The workers came out every day and they did a very good job even though the heat was terrible. They did a very good job. Our roof looks very nice now. Thank you preferred roofing!

1. The estimate- We knew when we purchased the home we would need a new roof soon. The challenge with our old roof was that the bottom layer was wood shake shingles and was completely outdated. Previous owners had placed several layers on top that had worn down. After getting several estimates I was not satisfied with what other contractors were offering. Yes, I did find better prices, but what I was getting was cheaper material and lack of guaranteed work. A home is usually your biggest purchase. There are two things that stand out with a home... the foundation on which it is built and the roof that covers all of your valuables. That being said my wife and I had no desire to cut corners. David was very clear on what needed to be done and what the pricing would be. Integrity & character are things that I stand by, so when I see a company that operates with those qualities, they will earn my business and Preferred Roofing did just that. 2. On the job- The estimate was a 3 1/2 day job and they exceeded that by completing it in 3 days. Everyday the workers were on time, but what stood out is having David there on day 1 to start the project. His workers, busted their butts to tear off the old roof and I'm here to tell you that was one tough job. After each day they did a really good job of cleaning up. That was important to me because I have 3 young kids and a dog that I didn't want around a bunch of debris. They even cleaned the mess from my neighbors yard that ended up over there from the tear off. But what stood out most was the attention to detail on the roof. From the ridge caps, to the vents, sealing around my chimney, etc... All I have to say is our roof is the talk of the cul-da-sac now and I'm sure they will earn some business because of it! 3. The final inspection- Seeing David smile and knowing he's passionate about what he does was awesome. You can tell he takes pride in making customers happy! During the inspection I asked if I could get on the roof with him, I'm glad I did because I was truly able to appreciate all the work that was done. I had been on the old roof many times and I would cringe every time it rained (which is not much in LA). But today, July 18, 2015 when I saw the rain clouds forming I no longer had to cringe because I had a new roof by a company I had grown to trust. Now, I will close this by saying that this company is more than just David! You will also be dealing with Steve, who was absolutely wonderful and professional as well. He took the time over the phone to make sure my wife and I were taken care of. I don't know each of his workers by name, but they should be honored as well. I'm truly thankful that I decided to go with Preferred Roofing. They're the only roofing company I will refer.

Everything was going as planned until they started removing the old roof. It was a messy process but I was reassured that they would be cleaning-up along the way. David Paine, Owner said that "customer service is our #1 priority". That being said, when the project was done I was very unhappy with the roof and told the Owner, David Paine. There is NO definition to the shingles. He told me that was because I had picked black shingles. I immediately told him he was wrong because I could show him houses all over that have black shingles that have a great deal of definition. He then proceeded to tell me that I must be referring to what is called "Presidential" shingles. I told him that I am not a roofing contractor and when he came to my house to showed me his product etc., all he brought was one (1) brochure and colors. He never indicated ANY other options so I assumed that was all there was for the Fiberglass Asphalt Shingles and the look I wanted. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do and I am not happy with the look if the roof. The second biggest problem was when they disconnected the main power from the roof, they never reattached it. They left it hanging. They told me that it was the City of Burbank responsibility. I called the City of Burbank Water & Power and they told me that it was the roofing contractors responsibility. After many phone calls back and forth and arguments, both Preferred Roofing Company and the City of Burbank Water & Power came out and they both reinstalled the main power to the roof. I am stilling finding loose shingles in my trees & landscaping. There are many black tar marks along the pathways and the stairs leading to my house. There were several broken screens that I had to replace (they did reimburse me for the screens) and my grass in the front yard was killed. There is a bathroom in the garage that I said they could use but when they were done, it was left filthy and they never cleaned up after themselves. Meanwhile, I had to have them come back out again to cut off the ends of the nails that went through the roof and through the overhangs not to mention the numerous boards that are now split and in need of repair.

Preferred Roofing is a great Company. They are very confidant, knowledgable and available. The workers were on time every day and kept my property clean of nails and debris. The roof looks amazing. All of the vents and skylights seem to be happy too. The only thing that would make me happier with Preferred is if they had a painting division!! Great job guys!

During the last rain we discovered we needed a new roof when we noticed there was a waterfall in our kitchen. One of the company's we contracted was Preferred Roofing Inc. and they came out immediately. Their bid was extremely fair so we hired them on the spot and are we glad we did. It was a three day job. The workers were there early each morning and worked the whole day. Having the roof leak had caused some other problems. Turns out we had some wood rot in several areas. At first I thought I can't handle another problem. Well I didn't have to. Preferred Roofing Inc. helped us find a contractor to do the replacement work. I was very grateful that they were there to help us with this issue. It was a very professional group of men. From the office staff to the workers they answered every question we had. When they finished the project there was no sign of them being here. The cleanup was incredible. They even had a large magnet that they went over the yard with to be sure all old nails were picked up. Preferred Roofing Inc. is being put into our permanent home repairs file. Our house was in need of a brand-new roof.we had talk to one other company to get a bed. However, what we found was, that some companies do not always include everything in the bed. Not with preferred roofing. The owner himself came out to do the estimate. He was extremely professional he explained everything to us. I should also say, I am visually impaired, so he was very descriptive, and read to me all the forms that I would need to sign if I were to go with this company. He showed me all of the licenses, and explain what they were.explained in great detail what kind of roof he would recommend and why. After going over everything, he gave me an estimate of what the job would cost. He also explained, that there might be some additional charges and he listed what they would before. So, I decided to go with this company. And, I'm very happy I did. The people who installed my roof when not only very friendly, but they did a thorough job. This company does not contract out.their own employees. After each day of the job, everything was clean and put back to the way it was. I would definitely recommend preferred roofing to anyone who needs a new roof. If I ever need another roof, I will definitely be calling them.

The guys from preferred did an outstanding job of demolishing my old roofing and disposing of it. Then the replaced any damaged plywood and reroofed the entire house. They also referred me to people who could replace my old skylights, facia boards and rain gutters. They left the place very clean when they finished and resolved a minor incident immediately. The incident involved a wire from the AC that was old and deteriorating getting disconnected during the demolition. When my AC guy came in and fixed the AC problem, the guys from preferred reroofed over the penetration that had to be made by the AC folks. The one real advantage of using preferred is that Dave (the owner) is a certified roofing inspector with the county of Los Angeles. That means that Dave is qualified to self inspect the job to close out the permit, which means that there is no waiting for the inspector to stop by and sign off. They were in and out of my 2200 sq ft house in 3 days. All in all, I think Dave and the crew did an outstanding job and I would recommend them to anyone for roofing work.

The existing roof was at least 20 years old and the signs were there that we had a leak. We made an appointment with David, who is the owner of the company. After inspecting the roof condition, he sat down with me to go over all the details. I was impressed with his knowledge and honesty. After receiving the signed contract, the job was scheduled for the time frame I desired. The crew showed up on time and finished the job in three days. The new roof looks great. After two weeks of project completion, I noticed that there was small warp of shingles along roof edge. I called the company and David ( the owner) visited us in the same day. The problem was determined to be caused by the rain gutter installer. The wrapped area was latter fixed. Preferred roofing made the whole process very easy and pleasant. I would definitely recommend them for other Angie's list members.

The presentation by Dave was very informative and professional.I had three estimates and Preferred roofing was in the middle.For the job that was done it was very fairly priced.The crew that did the work showed up on time and did an outstanding job.They did a tremendous amount of work in just three days.Very satisfied with the job.

We haven't executed the contract with them, but they have done work for us in the past, and they have been very good. They have been responsive, and do good quality work. When he came out for this bid, he did a good job of explaining what the roof is, and what the current problem is, and what the repair needs to be.

I originally called and spoke with their representative, we arranged an appointment and I met with the owner of Preferred Roofing, David Paine. After going over cost and timelines and choosing my roof I decided to go with Mr. Paine and Preferred Roofing. I am pleased to say I made a good choice, they were timely, represented themselves well and cleaned up the jobsite when the job was completed and I have no complaints.

We got a great deal on an older home but the place needed a new roof. I heard about Preferred Roofing from some friends of mine and called them up. They showed up on time as scheduled and performed a thorough inspection, told me exactly what I would need and gave me what I thought was a fair estimate. After I got a 2 more bids, I decided to go with preferred. They weren't the cheapest of the group but seemed extremely knowledgeable and very professional. They did a great job, finished on time and were clean and courteous. My friends told me Preferred was a great roofing company and they were right. The roof is just a few weeks old but I am confident that it will last under the San Diego sun. I also feel confident that if there is a problem in the future I can call on Preferred to take care of it.

The owner, David, was very professional and came out to make the measurements himself, leaving a bid on the spot. Once we decided to go with them, they called to schedule the job, and the crew showed up on time. The crew was nice and efficient and made sure to clean up at the end of each day. They finished the job in three days and we are very happy with the results. David even came back after the work was done, to make sure everything was in order and that we were satisfied. We are so glad we decided to go with Preferred Roofing and we highly recommend them!
