very well - punctual, worker was tireless in his pursuit to finish in a timely manner. Cleaned up after himself. Very willing to go the extra mile to ensure we were happy with stained color matching.
Description of Work: refresh kitchen : reface cabinet base, new doors and drawers. Did same throughout 2 bathrooms and laundry room. Also replaced and stained the inset light fixture wood to match.

Business must be good at I&E! If they can be 50% higher than the big name retailers and have attitude, they must not need customers! Attitude over the phone and even more rudeness when they came out for an estimate. They could have saved a lot of time and energy if they just told me initially that the price of countertop I wanted was $75/sq ft.
Description of Work: Called for an estimate on quartz countertop.

Mark, the salesperson, very professional, gave me a quote. He suggested some moldings that I had not thought of. He said he would have them bring the materials to the install, and that if I didn't want them, they would not charge me for them. They sent out a draftsman who measured my cabinets; we spent a lot of time discussing a layout, but he did not want to make too many suggestions. It was up to me to layout the cabinet design, which struck me as unusual. Laying out the cabinet facades took a few hours of our time and was very exhausting. The draftsman was supposed to later bring me some samples, but he never did. Over time the draftsman became quite hostile, and by the time he came around to delivering the corbel samples (which was in my contract), he was outright rude, not to mention very late. Weeks went by, and I did not hear from the company. I called them, spoke with Melissa, who informed me that she was the project manager. She promised to call back but never did. A week later I called again, and she said that the installation had been scheduled, that she would call me back with the exact date. She never called. At this point I got a manager involved, and he helped me, but unfortunately Melissa was telling him that she was returning calls. I caught Melissa in a number of small lies, all designed to cover up that she was not doing her job. The install did not go smoothly. They were supposed to have arrived at 9AM, but instead arrived at 2PM. They only delivered part of what they were supposed to. We had to reschedule, and the same scenario unfolded, the guys who delivered the remainder of the items, showed up very late ? didn?t care either, didn?t deliver everything. The installer did a great job, and on one of the days he stayed late in order to get the job done; I was with him until 11PM at night for the main part of the installation. But they had not made all the doors, and they did not deliver the moldings that Mark had suggested. Also, one of the drawers had been measured incorrectly. So to make a long story short, I spent a couple more weeks trying to get the job finished. Again, lots of miscommunication, white lies, and I had already told them to forget the moldings. At some point the job was finished, but they billed me for the doors that were not delivered and the moldings that were never installed. I had made a couple of change orders, but they were necessary because the salesperson and the draftsman had miscalculated an idea I had of simply removing some trim to make my doors look original. They both said it could not be done, but the installer did it in 10 seconds! I then realized the extra doors (which had not all be made or delivered) were not necessary. I was willing to pay for the change order but not for the doors that were never delivered or made. To make a long, tedious story short, they wanted to not only charge me for the doors, but the moldings that were NEVER even made or delivered. I was able to settle t

The first problem started after we received our cabinets. We wanted a cooktop in our countertop and they cut the hole a different size than what we had discussed. They would not acknowledge this mistake or give us a discount. I had to get a different cooktop to fit their size hole. They left this job before it was even finished. They would not answer my phone calls. We were conned by them. We would never work with them again.
Description of Work: They built custom cabinets for us.

I hired I & E in May, 2006 after half of my kitchen cabinets were lost to water damage. (I am submitting this report now because I just joined Angie's List.) The project manager, Janine, was terrible and mostly inaccessible. The work was adequate, but, often, things were not done on time. (I had to phone Janine four times before I could get in touch to let her know the installer had not shown up.) I caught two mistakes before the work was done and have to live with one mistake (too short a drawer) because I did not catch it in time. Luckily, I hired a different company to do the tile. Since the cabinets had already been demolished, I do not know about the company's demolition skills. Their clean-up was okay, but not great.
Description of Work: I & E replaced cabinets that had been lost to mold caused by a water leak and resurfaced the remainder of the kitchen cabinets.

The first problem was when I kept being sent "change orders" to sign and return, with no explanation of what was being changed. On one bathroom cabinet we wanted to move the side where the sink is which meant the drawers and cabinet doors needed to be switched around to accommodate the plumbing under the sink. Company neglected to make the change, even though it was in the work order. When I asked about it I was told the guy who did the work order didn't know you couldn't do it without rebuilding the cabinet. The person who told me this said it as though the designer's ignorance was excuse enough and that it was now our problem. We had to pay extra to have the problem corrected (which still has not occurred). There is no communication within the company: I find myself getting phone calls from various people in the company who keep crawling out of the woodwork and none of them has talked to the other twelve people I already explained things to. I also have to give directions every time someone new comes to do work; you would think they would have the directions on file somewhere or that someone else in the company could share that information. Several times people haven't shown up at all for scheduled appointments. At one point, when the guy didn't show up, the office manager rescheduled someone for a Saturday and I was later chewed out by some other unknown person for expecting their people to work on a Saturday when they have families (it wasn't my idea to waste my Saturday accommodating their guy who didn't show up). Another time they sent a guy who not only showed up at my clients' house at 6:30 in the morning when he was specifically instructed not to get there until 9:30, but it turned out he was not authorized or competent to do the job he was sent there to do. All he had to do was drill holes and put cabinets handles on, but this guy - who's worked for the company for two years - isn't skilled enough to do that simple task, so we had to reschedule ONCE AGAIN! The list goes on and on. These people have been a complete headache to work with. I would sooner take a woodworking class and learn how to do it myself than to hire these people again.
Description of Work: Refaced cabinets for my clients. Job included kitchen cabinets as well as all bathroom cabinets and cabinetry in hallways and butler's pantry.

The job was sloppy from the start. The salesman was very nice, however, but the project manager was definitely in the wrong job. The granite counter people did not install what we ordered and they became very contentious. The installers were pleasant but very sloppy. Have had to clean up after them a lot of times. Their drywall person is absolutely incompetent and had to come back at least 5 time to do a good job. The cabinets was of poor quality, i.e. staples and nails exposed. Some of the drawers and cabinets were damaged during installation, chips dents and bang marks. Have had to call the project manager many times to remind him to fix problems with no response. I do not recommend them at all. The salesman John Orr I really recommend him but he quit during our fiasco.
Description of Work: Mario was the project manager. They were to demolish the existing cabinets and install new cabinets including new oven, gas range, sink, hood, and electrical. The people were sloppy in demolishing, lots of dust and did not protect the rest of the house. Walls were damaged and they left all of their mess in the back yard. The job was to take 6 to 8 weeks but it has taken 5 months so far. I am in the middle of protesting the job and it is still not completed. I have withheld money and refuse to make payment until the job is completed.

Job started 45 days after contracted, because draftsman made a mistake, which took that long to get corrected. Company immediately asked for change order, because of extra work, which should have been visible when bid. Very difficult to get return phone calls. I had to keep reminding them about things, which were on the contract, which they otherwise wouldn't have provided. They didn't plan the job well. They were having to demolish their own work, which added to completion time. They destroyed some piping, then expected us to pay for replacement. Some people were better at cleanup, than others. The demo was cleared out promptly. But I had to clean up a bunch of wood, with nails sticking out of it from construction, that was dumped in the back yard and left for a week. Ultimately, we were getting responsiveness from people with authority. End result looks good, it was just very painful to get there.

The workmanship and quality of the cabinets is excellent but I would not recommend them because my installer was not on time once. In fact, he was always at least one hour late. If you do not have to go to work and can sit around and wait for them all day, then they will be fine for you. But the installers inability to arrive within an hour of the scheduled time caused me stress and problems at work. Everyone in the office was as helpful as possible, but they still couldn't make him show up to work. It also took a span of 3 weeks for the installer to show up for the 4 total days of work, which was very frustrating.

An absolutely horrible experience from start to finish. The salesman lied to me about the length of time job would take. They didn't finish in contracted time, but contract stipulates that job only has to be mostly done by done date--they took more than 1 month more, and I'm still not happy with work. Charged my credit card without authorization, threatened me with a lien when they hadn't finished work, and I wouldn't pay until they did. Stupid mistakes were made in construction of cabinets. Installer was unskilled--many things had to be redone or replaced, and supervisor was aggressive and belligerent--obviously only interested in getting final payment, not in finishing the job correctly. They didn't clean up after themselves. They were horrible. A dishonest, poor performing company. Avoid them completely. The worst experience I have ever had with a company. Stay away.

THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY 15 YEARS OF HOME OWNERSHIP, AND I HAVE HAD LOTS OF WORK DONE HERE ON MY BEAUTIFUL HOUSE. UNPROFESSIONAL, SLOPPY WORK, DONE BY PEOPLE THAT THE COMPANY CONTRACTS OUT, NOT IN-HOUSE. I ENDED UP AGREEING TO 1500 DOLLARS FOR JUST THE CABINETS. THAT MATERIAL WAS ALL RIGHT, HOWEVER THE REFACING MATERIAL WAS CHEAP, FLIMSY, AND POORLY APPLIED. THE ORIGINAL QUOTE WAS $3500. I'D TURN BACK IF I WERE YOU.
Description of Work: I HIRED THIS COMPANY FROM AN AD IN THE NEWSPAPER TO REFACE MY KITCHEN CABINETS. THE SALESPERSON WAS NICE, AND "IF I SIGNED RIGHT THERE, I WOULD GET A SPECIAL OFFER". I CONTRACTED THEM TO DO THE WORK. THE WORKER THAT SHOWED UP WAS SLOPPILY DRESSED, AND TALKATIVE. THE REFACING MATERIALS THEY USED WERE CHEAP, LIKE THICK PAPER, WAS PUT UP VERY POORLY, WITH UNEVEN EDGES, AND STARTED PEELING OFF IMMEDIATELY. EVERYTHING LOOKED TERRIBLE. I CALLED THE COMPANY MANY, MANY TIMES. THEY NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONE. NEVER. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, I HAD TO HAVE MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY STOP PAYMENT UNTIL THE OWNER SETTLED THINGS WITH ME. THIS WHOLE PROCESS TOOK MANY MONTHS OF AGGRAVATION. I HAD TO HIRE OTHER PEOPLE TO REMOVE WHAT THEY HAD DONE, AND START OVER.
