The service took about half-hour each time. Edan, the locksmith, was extremely competent. Very professional and courteous.
Description of Work: Also known as Friedman Lock & Key, with a Van Nuys address. First used them in January, six months ago. Our front door lock mechanism became stuck. When I called the La Crescenta number, I think the owner picked up. His manner was all-business (which was fine by me). He asked what brand of lock i had, to which I replied I hadn't a clue because there were no brand names on it. He then contacted one of his locksmiths while I was on hold. Came back on after a couple of minutes and said his guy could come out later that evening....between 7 and 8pm. That's pretty late, i thought, but because i really needed the lock fixed, i agreed. Edan showed up within that time period. When I answered the door, he immediately showed me his ID. Long and technical story short, Edan was excellent. Very polite. Mindful of not tracking in dirt. Laid out a towel to protect the floor. He placed parts of the lock orderly and respectfully on the towel. He had a very methodical mindset....evidence that he had worked on many, many locks. He courteously announced that he was going to work on the lock in his well-stocked van....his 'mobile office' as he called it. In his office, he removed the covering plate, then with his iPhone, photographed it before dismantling and removing parts. Problem fixed, he reinstalled the lock, at which point he cautioned me that he didn't know how long the mechanism would hold. He was not familiar with the brand of lock I had but said it looked solid and well-made. He also said that to replace the whole unit, it would cost about $500 (it was a fancy, decorative lock that we inherited when we bought the house several years ago). This time, 6 months later, the lock seized up again. I called them again. This time, they were extremely busy. They wouldn't be able to help me for at least 2 days after the weekend. I grumbled but they wouldn't budge. I thought, well, ok, they honor their appointments and allow enough time to do the job well. I agreed to wait until next week because I liked Edan, felt he was honest, and extremely competent. Once again, he arrived as scheduled, same professionalism and courtesy, and fixed the problem.
