Description of Work: Worst experience ever. They came to fix some wood rot and ended up putting a massive hole in my balcony.Then they said it would cost $2,000.00 to repair the hole that she made. I felt like I was totally ripped off and demanded my money back which I got.

Description of Work: Excel Construction represented by a contractor name Ayal only arrived on time once, I waited anywhere from 40 min to 1 1/2 hours on other dates. I purchased an Angie's list special for four hours of wood rot restoration/repair, but Ayal subtracted that amount from the total estimate. For over $6,000 paid to date, the only work completed has been installation of sliding glass door (took no more than four hours of work). And replacement of subfloor-another four hours in the bedroom. Once the workers discovered the presence of mold, all work stopped and has not resumed. I was told by Ayal that it would cost $2,200 from a mold remediation company to remove the mold before he could complete the job. I contacted another contractor who said that they could remove the mold, treat the area and repair the wood damage. I also contacted another mold treatment company that said it was such a small area, remediation was not necessary. To date, Ayal has requested that I obtain, in writing, proof that this is the case. I have asked him to refund any unused monies so that I can have someone complete the job and he has refused. We are at a standstill. Two major complaints are: 1) the amounts of the estimates seem ridiculously high, his estimates were never researched. As the original estimate was to replace the existing French doors with the same. Then he called to tell me that my doors were a custom size and too costly. 2) Since the Angie's list deal was for wood rot, I assumed that I would get someone expert in water damage. But even though I showed him the water damage around the bedroom door on his first visit, he did not include repair in original estimate. He also did not go under the house to inspect for any additional damage until I insisted.

 + 0 more.Representative came out to present a quote for what I wanted done within the scope of the deal I had purchased. Not knowing what could be done in one day, I had sent a list of things I needed done in order of importance. My first issue was a leak above a new window. It needed to be sealed on the outside above the window. After looking at the problem, he spent time talking about errors of previous work. I wanted to to focus on what the fix was and how long it would take. I believe he was constantly adding more than I could afford. I explained I wanted to stay within the price of the deal I had purchased on Angie's list. I tried to get an answer to my question " what part of my list could be completed in one day" The conversation ended up with him attempting to convince me to work with his friend to finance more money than I wanted to spend. When he left I felt I would have to constantly monitor closely what was being done and the dollar amount I would pay I did not want to constantly feel I was going to have a dispute at sometime. I felt I had experience a "hard sell" situation.
Description of Work: Excel came out to present a quote of the work to be done within the amount of Angie"s big deal of $299 contractor for a day.

 + 1 moreThey were great. It turned out that I didn't have enough hours of work for what I paid, so it ended up being about $75 an hour. But I will get him back here to do work for me in the future. They were there to patch up what the previous guy listed on Angie's List did for me. It took them just 2 hours. It was supposed to be a 4 hour service but he said I couldn't use it for any other job.
Description of Work: It was a Big Deal. Essentially what they did is just cleaned up the mess that the last Angie's List handyman made. He gutted one of my windowsills that had dry rot, which he didn't need to do but he did it anyway. So they had to come in with filler and put it back together so I didn't have to replace the whole window. He also cut a huge canal in my driveway and so they patched up the driveway.

Description of Work: I needed roof repair for mold. Excel found additional termite damage. Worker did a decent job but definitely not 4 hours worth of work, even when deducting an hour for buying materials (which I'd agreed to). Repair estimate was $2,500 but I got it repaired by roofing co. for $300 with better guarantee for results ( and done in less than 3 hours).

 + -1 moreFirst day the construction guy showed up and started working but noticed he needed to remove the gate door to be able to do job. Worker then called owner. Owner shows up and noticed that when he gave the estimate of time for the job he had not noticed the the threshold would not be easily removed as he first thought. Said he needed his "Iron Guy" to come out and remove the door. So while he was sending pictures to his "Iron Guy" I and trying to get him to come to the house, I called my local Iron person and he showed in 15 minutes. He gave us a lower rate and said he would be here 30 minutes before the construction guy showed up the next day to remove the door so the construction person could fix the threshold. The next day everyone showed up on time. My Iron guy removed the door and then the construction guy started working. It took him four hours to remove the rotted wood and fix the threshold. Unfortunately once he finished the threshold it was now a little under an inch below the floor. It was not aligned. He also left a gap under the door which now insects can easily crawl into my house. The guy said he couldn't get it to align or fix the gap and just left. The owner then called to see if I was satisfied with the work provided. I informed him I was not. His worker just wanted to get to his next job instead of finding a solution. He had mentioned before that if the job took longer than the four hours the coupon provided, each additional hour would cost $100. I told him that I wasn't in the mood to hear more reasons of why the job wasn't correctly done. I decided to look for someone else to do the job right and that wouldn't over charge me.

 + 2 moreAfter having the initial assessment appointment, it took three weeks longer to make a service appointment than was expressed, which was a bit aggravating. They apologized and said they were completely swamped by new appointments from their Angie's List coupon. On the day of the appointment, they sent one worker, who showed up during the agreed upon time window, and went straight to work to repair the wood rot, and beam gap. Their Field Supervisor, Eyal Aharon, showed up about 15 minutes later to go over the repairs with his worker, and told me that it seemed they would complete the work faster than expected, and that they would also repair some large scratches on the door near the wood rot made by our dogs, and fill in any other gaps they could find around the awning. They completed all the repairs, plus some in three hours! The repairs weren't perfect, but they were good. Had it not been for the difficulty in making an appointment to schedule work, I would have given them an A overall.
Description of Work: Bought the 4 hours of labor coupon for $159.00 to repair a small area of wood rot on a patio window frame and fill a gap in a wooden beam made from a previous contractor incorrectly filling it with caulking instead of bondo. With extra time they also sanded and painted several spots on the backdoors of our home made from our dogs scratching off the paint, and filled additional gaps in the awning. They gave me the option to pick up my own materials, or dedicate an hour of labor from the coupon to have their company do it instead. I chose to pick up the materials myself at Home Depot, which cost about $40 since I already had matching paint.

 + 0 moreIt was an interesting experience, as the home is occupied by my grandson and is over 120 miles away. All of the correspondence was via email. It was timely, costs were explained, workers showed up on time. Very professional. Simply awaiting a final bill. Heads up, since I signed up for the Angie's Deal for this work, I have been inundated with calls from contractors and their agents. There may be no connection, but it is strange. I worry that Angie's List has been hacked or is selling phone numbers. These callers have no respect for the time or day of the week. They know my name and the address of the work site. You might want to use a phone that you can turn off and put in a drawer for a while when you are done. Annoying at best, harassment at worst.
Description of Work: Repaired rather extensive wood rot on our second story balcony. Prior owner had simply painted over damage before we bought house. Excel cleaned out all of the rotten wood and replaced it with new, then sealed and painted the balcony again.

 + 2 moreOn the gate, they replaced three wood panels and touched up the rest. They repainted the whole gate to get a good match. The top of the gate is curved and they didn't quite match the curvature. On the second-story work they sanded down, repaired some sun-damaged wood with filler, sanded again, and repainted. They had to borrow a ladder and broom. I had a fair amount of trash to clean up. They probably could have gotten an A on quality if they had asked me to review their work before they left like they promised, but they left without saying "bye".
Description of Work: Excel refurbished a side-yard gate that had wood rot, and fixed some wood damage on a second-story exterior section of the house.

I am so happy with the look of my new kitchen. The new tile floors matches my new kitchen perfectly. I feel that the price is not the only factor to choose a contractor but the connection and chemistry with the contractor as well. I definitely had a good vibe with Eyal and I am glad with my decision.
