Tom came out and asked what the problem was? I explained that I had filed an air conditioner not working problem and a possible duct work problem through our home warranty company, because we just weren't sure what was going on. We had had a rat problem in the garage (ugh) and quickly resolved it, but could tell they had gotten into the duct work, as one had scurried away from under the vent cover when I walked in (double ugh). He checked the outside unit, suggested we move a storage shed further away from it, but said that it was functioning. He is also the second contractor to state that the builder put in a system too small for the size of the house (grrrr). He then crawled through a very tiny opening in the floor to access the underside of the house. When he came back up, he said the ducts were in bad shape, had come apart in some places and chewed through in others (I hate rats). He suggested a quick fix, so we could be comfortable and then suggested that we redo the duct work beneath the house. It will be expensive, but his quick fix suggestions will get us through until the work is done. He did not perform the fixes, nor did we expect him to have. He had NO problem with our (big) dogs and was very careful about not tracking any dirt onto the carpeting. Because I had gotten confused when I filed the service request and put it through as two different issues, he only asked for one $60 payment (for duct work) and told me to go online and cancel the air conditioner call. It was no skin off his nose and it saved us a fair amount of money. He was also able to give us a ballpark figure on what it would cost to replace the duct work underneath the house. Not good news, but we quickly (!) found out what the problem was and how to resolve it. So much nicer than being strung along. I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: We were having trouble with the A/C not cooling and not cycling off. I put a request in through our home warranty company on Saturday night (online). Sunday morning at 9 am, we got a call from them, stating that he could be here between 10 - noon! Now, if you have a home warranty, you probably know that you can wait 3-5 days for a response, particularly if it's about air conditioning and it's currently 96 degrees.

It did not go well. The work performed by Certified was questionable and my unit ultimately failed leaving me with a large replacement bill. It was an older unit that may have failed soon anyway, but the work performed by Certified was later inspected by another contractor who said it was performed incorrectly. At the same time, Certified claimed the opposing contractor was incorrect in their repair(although I never granted them access after the subsequent repair so I don't know how they could tell that). There is no way for me to be sure who did what exactly since I am not an expert, but I was left in the middle of a contractor fight and was out a good portion of money trying to resolve the issue. It was not very professional overall.
