Description of Work: Home Performance Matters installed solar panels on the roof of our home. The whole system works very well, and we are very happy. The owner and his representatives are helpful and respond quickly when there are any questions or problems. We now have a running credit with S.C.Edison, that Edison will have to pay back to us in August.

Description of Work: They did a home energy audit at our house. The guys who came to the house were nice and very professional during the six hours it took to for the audit on September 3rd. Jonathan came out and reviewed their energy audit report and recommendations on September 10th and told us that they are a general contractor who facilitates the recommendations contained in their audit reports. The energy audit price was a great deal! My primary knock was that there were a lot of To Be Determined as to cost items in their report recommendations beyond the approximately $15,000 in recommended improvement items contained in their report. They also apparently lost interest after I told him that my brother in law was a heating and air conditioning contractor and I would have him review recommendations relative to HVAC system comments. Before he left, he told me that someone would be following up with us to correct the can light fixtures that got pushed down from them being in the attic and to make a small drywall repair in the kitchen from when they pulled the tape off the register following a pressure test. We have not heard anything further from them.

Description of Work: I wanted a report on the efficiency of my air conditioner. I told them even while booking of my objective. This was not done. The person presenting the audit findings was totally inexperienced and coulnt answer basic questions.

Spent almost 5 hrs here but the results were spot on and they called just a few days a later and gave us a binder filled with all the info about their findings. Very accurate best money spent. Also let us know how we could make our home more energy efficient.

Description of Work: Home Performance Matters is a solid company to work with on your solar installation. Before we even discussed solar, they made sure we had addressed many simple issues of energy efficiency that offer a greater return on investment than the solar system itself (i.e., insulation, leaky ductwork, etc.). No need buy expensive equipment to generate power that's just going to get wasted. Once the appropriate size system was determined, the system was designed to address to need and priced fairly. No complicated leasing or financing schemes to figure out: This is a 100% ownership program, which means after you've paid for it, you own it and you get all the benefits - i.e. clean, cheap power to cover all or part of your total electricity needs. In my case, my all-in fixed cost for the first 9,000 kwh of annual usage will be approximately $0.11, and anything over that will easily fall within my SCE Tier I rate (currently $0.13). Looking forward to NO MORE budget-busting summer electric bills at Tier 2 & 3 rates, even though I've added to my electric demand with an electric car. Financially, the system makes a lot of sense, since it not only offsets my historical SCE usage, but also a large amount of my former gasoline usage, since I've replaced my gasmobile with a plug-in hybrid (VOLT). Environmentally it's a huge win as well, which was important to me, since I've greatly reduced the amount of CO2 that I'm putting in the atmosphere. Everyone from HPM was easy to work with, and the work was completed on schedule and as promised with minimum inconvenience. No surprises, since everything was explained up front.

Description of Work: I have previously provided a review of HPM describing the overall excellent service, communication, quality and professionalism with the Solar PV project they completed for us. It was no surprise that the service provided for their energy efficiency work was equally exemplary. The energy efficiency work provided included removing old insulation and reinsulating the attic and kneewalls. Secondly, all the old ducts from the HVAC unit were removed and replaced. They also did some electrical work and added energy efficient fixtures. The work for this combined project was completed within the agreed upon 4 days. Two issues did arise during this project which should be mentioned. During the insulation, one of the workers stepped through the ceiling. However, true to their promptness and professionalism, HPM had repaired the ceiling with matching texture by the time I returned home from work that evening. The next day, they were able to paint to match the ceiling such that the repair was seamless. The second issue was that an older vent was to be changed with a newer and more energy efficient model. Unfortunately, one of the workers changed the vent from the wrong bathroom. Upon realizing the mistake, HPM replaced both vents with the more efficient model at no additional cost. I recognize that mistakes occur. I have dealt with several contractors and it is rare that "everything goes smoothly." Despite these two issues, things were still completed on time and to the highest standard. What separates HPM from other contractors, in my opinion, is again their professionalism, communication and desire/ability to rectify things quickly. For these issues, HPM corrected the situation to at least the same quality, if not better, then before the accident. This approach to prioritizing and rectifying their error is another way with which they separate themselves from other contractors. As with the Solar project, their ability to communicate with us and coordinate the work, city inspection etc... was outstanding. For this reason, the project was able to be completed with minimal interference in our schedule and life.

Description of Work: Home Performance Management audited my house for energy performance. They made very specific recommendations to improve the energy efficiency of my house, and gave us clear details of how they were going to upgrade our home. We chose to insulate walls and attic, install a more efficient air conditioner. They put in ducts that were smaller and directed the air more efficiently to each room. Bigger is not always better. By putting in an air conditioner suited to the size of our house (meaning smaller), we save on power and the rooms cool more slowly and hold the temperature much longer than my old, noisy, big blowing conditioner did. They also reduced the number of vents too, which made the system more efficient. They have computer programs to calculate the size and best location for vents and the optimal number of vents to have. The put in a tankless water heater, which we love, and they integrated it with our new hydronic heating system, which they also installed. They advised us on updating the bulbs in our house to suitable LEDs, which we did, and even lent us a huge box of lights to try through our house, so we could get a sense of what we liked. They updated the electrical in our walls and attic, so they could insulate around it without the risk of fire. That meant all the knob and tubing had to come out. Their quote on this was very reasonable, and they got a lot done per hour. They put in extra outlets and outdoor lighting for us while they worked on the electrical. They installed new double paned Milguard Windows through most of the house and framed them very nicely inside. The project was completed in about one month or less, but the bulk of the work was done in 2 weeks. Very efficient in their timing. They are a nice bunch of people and seem to really enjoy what they do. There was no sales pressure and follow up after the job has been good. They recommend their work and all installed products for a year and will come out to fine tune things if they need to.

Description of Work: Home Energy Audit & Consultation

Description of Work: HPM tested the efficiency of our heating and insulation and performed an Energy Retrofit. This included replacing air docks with new, new can lights, removing old batting and insulating the attic with blown-in insulation. The floor of the Attic was elevated due to the thicker insulation. The Knee Wall for skylight was insulated. Insulation was applied to the underside of wood floor in the crawl space. A cover for attic stair was installed to prevent air leakage. HPM took care of all paperwork for the rebates which was a huge help. Without these rebates it would have cost us another $4500. Our house is much more comfortable and the temperature much more even with out the Air Conditioning and Heating running all the time. HPM was excellent to work with and very responsive. We did have a few additional expenses for removal of asbestos, etc. but we are happy we did it for ourselves and the environment.

Description of Work: HPM did an energy audit on my home and made recommendations to make it more energy efficient. They then put blown in insulation in the perimeter walls of my home, cleaned my attic, put new R-8 ducts in the attic, and insulated it with blown in insulation (R-38 I think).They also did sealing and other smaller projects that helped to make the home more energy efficient. I was part of the energy upgrade program so the amount above is with the rebates applied.
