Our air conditioner would work fine for about the first 20 minutes, then the motor would slow down, with very little air coming out of the vents. I called Cool Air Technologies on Friday the 9th and left a message. Bill answered and I explained my situation. He said he was out on the road and could I please call back to his message phone and leave my number, and that he would call back later. He returned my call early evening, and I explained further about the problem. He gave me an approximate cost, assuming the problem really was the motor, and asked if Monday between 10 and 2 would be OK. I said that would be fine, since we were still able to cool the house reasonably well. He showed up before noon, after first giving me a call before he left. He analyzed the problem, removed the faulty motor assembly, and said he would try to return with the new one that same day if possible and, if not, then the next morning. He was able to return the same day, and installed and tested the unit. He also checked for low Freon and said it was fine, and advised me on how to replace my old bulky air filter with a new setup. He called the next day and did a followup amperage draw check just to be sure everything was OK, and then put in place the new air filter parts I had acquired. This was a wonderful experience. My final cost was even lower than the original estimate, and the work was top notch. I think it's important to point out something about choosing between two or more compainies who get "high grades". It is vital to read the comments explaining the grades. Another company got similar good ratings, but when I read the comments, the terms 'pricey' or 'good idea to shop around for price' came up more than once. So while this other company did good work, their prices seemed high, something I didn't find in most of the comments on Cool Air Technologies.
Description of Work: New motor assembly for house air conditioner (orig.1984) was installed. Leaking air output duct was repaired.

Our new system was installed by Larry & Richard - who arrived on time, worked hard, were very professional, friendly, responsible and efficient. They went above and beyond as far as I'm concerned - we had filters in all our vents (which we should not have had), and they went to each one to remove them to make sure the new system was working properly. They explained everything to me, made sure I understood and had me test the system while they were there. They told me to feel free to call the office with any questions or if I ever need assistance. Outstanding!

Bill is very professional, very knowledgeable. He was friendly and not at all pushy about our need for a new unit. He made it a point to explain everything to me and made sure I knew what he was talking about. I felt comfortable with him. He is an honorable man, which is the highest compliment I can give to someone.
Description of Work: We have a 30 year old A/C unit that required servicing. Bill tested the outside unit, explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. He offered to put in new freon but said we may want to think about a new unit and explained in detail why. I called my husband at work regarding the cost of the freon and Bill spoke to him also, explaining everything he had told me. We opted not to have new freon, and Bill gave me an estimate on a new unit - once again explaining everything in detail.

Bill McIntosh is always very helpful. He got my old uniting working and gave me estimates on replacing it. He explained the pros and cons and gave me information on an energy rebate that I may qualify for. The guys who did the work two weeks later arrived on time, got the job done quickly including explaining the features of the new thermosat. They were friendly and profesional. From start to finish all the staff I had contact with were great. This is the second time I have used Cool Air Technologies and will again.

I found this company on Angies List. Trish who is office manager and the owner's wife was very patient, professional and caring throughout the process. We needed high flexibility with them in getting an on-site quote as this was a new home purchase for us and we had several delays in closing escrow. Every step of the way, Trish was polite, respectful and very easy to deal with. Her husband Bill came out to give the estimate and immediately I felt comfortable that he really knew what he was doing. He was efficient, professional and knowledgeable. He gave me a quote on the spot and did not pressure me to make a decision. A day before installation there was a problem with the equipment arriving on time due to a transportation issue from the manufacturer. It was at this point that Bill won me over with his excellent communication, caring and offer to make things right with me for my delay. The installers (2) were very personable and very good at what they do and completed installation in 5 hours. We are delighted with our new Heating and Air Conditioning unit and really happy we used Cool Air Technologies. I have already recommended to a friend who needs a new HVAC for his home. I thought they did a great job and the estimate was reasonable. He didn?t push any really expensive stuff on me and he was good on the recommendation. I was having some intermittent problems and he recommend that I replace it because it was a pretty old furnace. I was very happy with the work, it was scheduled on time, they did it all properly, they followed up, and when I had a question afterwards they responded back and answered my question.

Before finding Cool Air Technologies, we had used a company that tried to sell us parts that we found out that we did not need. I found out a lot of heating and air companies use commission repairmen. That was before I had Angie?s List. From that point on, I will only deal with an owner. I feel that family owned businesses have a stake in my satisfaction and try harder. Right before Christmas, our heater went out. I was concerned that I would not have heat for the holiday. Again, Cool Air Technologies did not disappoint. Bill, the owner, came out later that day. My furnace is older and I was worried that I would have to replace it. He listened carefully to my description of what was going on with my heater. After diagnosing the problem, he gave me his recommendation and a price. He told me that my furnace only needed a minor repair. But that due the age of the unit, I might be looking at replacement in the next several years. I appreciated his thoroughness, but more than that, I appreciated his honesty. He could easily have tried to sell me a new one and I would have done it on the spot. When it is time for replacement, I will only use Cool Air Technologies. They have earned my business and my trust. And my recommendation to my family and friends.

The person who came didn't install much confidence and had trouble figuring out what was wrong. Eventually he concluded it was the circuit board and gas bulb. He wanted $1200 and wanted the $85 service fee before he left. I eventually went with Air Vista... the technician seemed much more knowledgable and was extremely courteous. He diagnosed the problem as the circuit board and fan motor and the total cost of the repair was $855.

Response from Cool Air Technologies Inc
After informing her that there was a standard $85.00 diagnosis fee, the owner of Cool Air Technologies, Bill McIntosh, went out personally on this call. He dealt only with her. After diagnosing the heating issue, he found that there were multiple problems. Due to the age of the unit, and the multiple problems found, he recommended replacement of the unit rather than repair. This is because the cost of the repair would have been too great for a temporary fix. He told her that it COULD cost up to 1200.00 because of the numerous repairs, NOT that he was charging her that. When she insisted that she wanted the unit repaired and not replaced, he told her that he did not feel comfortable doing the job. Parts carry ONLY a 30-day warranty and he did not feel good about her putting good money into bad. She was VERY displeased that he didn’t want to do the work! There also seemed to be a communication problem. She did not seem to understand why he was making the recommendation that he did. In this economy, many companies perform work that will put money in their pocket, but is not ethically right for the customer. Bill did what he feels is right and stands behind his work. Last week we were awarded Angie’s List Super Service for the 4th consecutive year in a row. We stand behind our work. And we feel supported by the over 65 plus A reports that were given to us by happy customers. In the service business, we can not always please everyone, especially when making recommendations that are not what the customer wants to hear. However, our reputation is of the utmost concern to us. We hope that she is happy with the work that she had done elsewhere. We wish her the best of luck.

We contacted Cool Air Technologies along with three other companies. Our 1961 home still had its old furnace. After an addition in 1986 some ducts were replaced. Our house did not heat very well and from our roof we could tell that we heated the attic, literally. The houses built in the 60s had hard shell asbestos ducts. Unbeknown to us our contractor in the 80s had left all of the old ducts in the attic when we added on to the house. Some contractors who quoted on this particular job, did not even see them, one saw them but did not feel removal necessary, some was surprised when I wanted the job permitted, one did not realize how many feet of old ducts had been left there. Cool Air Technologies came out twice to quote, answer questions and to inspect, and wouldn't budge on the asbestos removal. That was a plus to me, that Bill McIntosh would not sacrifice his professional values to get a job. Bill arranged for the asbestos removal and everything went like clockwork from then on. The asbestos removal company came, removed the original ducts and the plastic ducts. The attic heat had totally disintegrated the ducts from the 80s. Bill's installers, Gilbert and Larry, were very respectful of our home. They had taped up all of the registers to keep the house clean. Bill had scheduled Larry ample time to do the job, so that there was time for diligent work. The installers came when they said they would, they cleaned up after themselves, tested the airflow and adjusted the dampers to our liking, and the entire job was done in 2 1/2 days. The installers re-distributed all of the attic insulation that had been disturbed. I ask a lot of questions and they were patiently answered so that we knew exactly how everything worked, and every phone call was courteously returned. We were educated on how to use the system, and how to keep the registers a little open to allow proper airflow. Our heating cost reduced dramatically, even though we heat more and regularly, using a programmable thermostat. The city inspector came and passed the job, and we have peace of mind. We recommend Cool Air Technologies for their expertise and attention to detail. --------------------------- We contacted Cool Air technologies for subsequent work in November 2010. I spoke with the owner, was told he was in the middle of something and he would call back and that he was busy for the week. It was an urgend matter and he did not call back. We also left a message with his office. I had mentioned to him that when we did additional work in our home, we found (and took pictures) of the old duct materials that were left in the attic.
Description of Work: Remove old furnace and replace with and install new 2-stage heating system with pigtail filter base, new gas flex . Asbestos removal in attic, remove old duct work and install new attic duct work, including mixing box with dampers . Insulate existing supply plenum . Extend return air base to fit new furnace, new junction box. Job permitted with the city.

We contacted Cool Air Technologies after looking at their web site and seeing that they work on furnace repairs. We talked to Trish and she was very courteous, and Bill was prompt in arriving at the specified time. Bill had a very pleasant personality and was very thorough in explaining the problem to us. He showed us how to check the circuit breaker prior to calling for repairs, if this problem should happen again. We would not hesitate to call him again for any needed repairs or recommend him to others.

He returned my call really fast; I think I called him beginning of the afternoon and by the end of the afternoon we had an appointment. He came in, gave us a really good price and within two days they were here to install everything. They cleaned up everything and it was seamless. They had to make the hole to access the attic bigger to get the old furnace out and they took care of everything. They even had to take out the crown molding, put it back and paint it a little bit. It was really, really clean and they knew what they were doing. Everything was nice and they showed up right on time.

They are wonderful. They sent out a crew of two and they were very good guys. They went over everything with us and they let us know little things that we could do for maintenance. They figured out that we were missing Freon which is why the air conditioning was working so poorly. We probably could have found a better price but for the service we got, I don't care.

We had hired another company several months ago for tune ups on both air conditioning units and requested that they also solve the condensate problem. By the way- since I did not have Angies list then, I simply called a company who advertised by way of mailing coupons. The coupons were very professional looking, but that's where the professionalism ended. The dripping continued and I called the company repeatedly without once getting a returned call- I finally gave up. I recently saw an ad for Angies list and decided to join. I did a search for HVAC and sorted on ratings and distance. Cool Air Technologies had the highest ratings and quite a number of reports. I called the office and received a call back in a very timely manner. I believe her name was Sue and she was very understanding and a pleasure to speak with. I explained all that had happened and what the symptoms were and she set up an appointment that would be convenient for me. Richard was the technician that came to the house as scheduled. In fact, Sue had actually called me several times giving me updates on when the gentleman would arrive. Richard arrived with all the necessary tools and equipment. He even brought a large mat that he placed on the ground just below the attic opening. He found that the major culprit was that the coil was actually installed off-level. So although the primary drain was partially blocked, most of the water was accumulating "downstream" from the primary drain, and hence flowing into the overflow pan. So the point is that he could have simply cleared the drain and the symptom would have gone, at least for awhile. He re-leveled the unit, cleared the partially occluded drain, and even checked the other unit in the attic without any additional charge. The work was done in a very professional manner- clean, timely, and thorough. They are a real nice company to work with and I would highly recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: Condensate from one of our in-attic air conditioner condenser coils was not draining properly and would drain through the "overflow pan" drain. This was evident by the constant dripping water on the side of the house. Normally, no water should be dripping from these "purposefully conspicuous" areas. Modern units typically have their primary coil condensate drains go directly to a normal drain, such as under a sink. In my case that would be the upstairs bathroom sink. So when everything is functioning correctly, the condensate goes directly to your home's drain system and there is no evidence of any drainage.

The job went extremely well. Bill, the owner of the company, came over to provide an estimate that ranged between $100 and $4000 (yes, $4000) cheaper than competitor's price quotes. Bill explained everything about the HVAC equipment in detail and was patient in answering all of the questions I had about it. After receiving the quote from Cool Air Technologies, I felt far better prepared in asking for quotes from competitors and finding out what questions to ask. Cool Air Technologies was contracted for the work. The installation of the new HVAC equipment started at about 7:30am and was completed in one day, by about 1:30 pm. The cabinet in which the new furnace was to be installed was completely cleaned out after the old furnace was pulled out, which was very much appreciated because the existing equipment was approximately 26 years old. The air conditioning refrigerant lines were completely insulated. The new thermostat is programmable and easy to use.
Description of Work: Replaced furnace and air conditioner, including new registers (air grates in the walls and ceiling), new thermostat, new electrical disconnect and whip, new return air grill, and a filter rack that makes replacing the air filter very easy. The new HVAC equipment is a 3 ton 14 SEER R410A air conditioner, and 3 ton, 2 stage variable speed furnace, both made by Tempstar.

I was quoted 12,000 dollars by another company to put in a whole new unit, so the price I paid here was peanuts compared to that. The whole experience was terrific. I referred them to my uncle and he got a brand new air-conditioner from them. Everything about them was first class.
Description of Work: I had been quoted a horrific price last summer. They said I needed a whole new air-conditioner and furnace. This year I decided to call Cool Air, and they came out and they just readjusted my vents and put in a little Freon.

Description of Work: Created new drain for water from A/C unit. Said they couldn't find/unplug the old one, which was backing up. Convinced my wife we needed to spend $250 to install a new thermostat. The thermostat works, but so did the one that was replaced.

Response from Cool Air Technologies Inc
We were sorry to receive this report. However, there are some inacuracies that need to be cleared up. With regards to setting up a time, we first tried to contact the member unsuccessfully via email (the member stated that he didn't receive our 3 attempts to email him). When we did reach him, he directed us to call his wife to set the appt. We did so only to find that we were given the wrong phone number, not once, but twice. When we finally made contact with the member, she asked us to come out asap, . We fit her in our schedule for immediate service despite the fact that it was 100 Degree heat and we were inundated with calls. The time frame given was our standard window of time which was 9-1. As a courtesy, our office manager Sue, called that morning to let the member know that she would be seen in the later part of that time frame. The member said that she would be there all day since she was working from home. (the member even called Sue to ask if she had time to run a work related errand which is why she was not home when the techincian arrived. We waited for her return.) Upon arrival, problem was diagnosed. However due to new steps being built in front of drain exit, an alternate drain was the only solution. Bill, Cool Air Technologies owner and lead techician, asked the member to turn on t-stat in A/C mode only to find that the t-stat would not operate. Bill gave an estimate for job that was okayed by the homeowners and completed. Being in the service business it is hard to please everyone. Although that is certainly what we try to do. However, despite the over 60 AAA reports and the 3 years of being awarded Super Service awards, somehow on this particular job, this homeowner did not feel that we did our best. We disagree. We are hoping that once the member confers with his wife as to what really happened, they will adjust there rating. We strive to give every customer our best and take every report seriously. But regardless, we wish him the best of luck with his future A/C projects.

We called this company in the middle of the heat wave July 2009 and got awesome service. I was fully expecting to wait a few days for service but they just added us to the end of their day and came about 6 PM and replaced the fuse. At that time they advised us that there could be other problems and would have to see if the fuse blew again. Sure enough it did and we called and they again came out the very same day (this was a different day than the first time). Once again it was around 6 PM and he had to be tired and hot himself but he was always cheerful, friendly, very professional. He gave my husband great tips for helping to maintain the ac system. This is a small family owned business but professional from start to finish. The woman I talked to on the phone was also friendly, organized and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about this company and we will absolutely use this company again. Oh and there was no charge for the second visit. His first visit was $85 after the Anglies List discount so he could not possible have made any money from us but he definitely has our business forever.
