We had another company come out last December to fix a "clunking" sound in an air conditioning compressor and replace a thermostat. After a 2 hour service call the "clunk" was not fixed and 3 service men could not figure out how to wire the thermostat properly. They promised to come back with a part. I never heard from them again. Bill came out and his technician wired the thermostat properly in 10 minutes. Bill came back several days later with a part and fixed the "clunk". Good job!
Description of Work: Rewired a thermostat. Replaced a circuit board in a noisy compressor.

This is my third interaction with Cool Air Technologies and they continue to impress me. I had Cool Air install a new Heating and A/C unit late last year, and this time around I called them because the air flow to certain parts of the house wasn't right. I dinged them on professionalism with a B, but I feel a bit bad about doing so as I actually think Trish and Bill are great and do a fantastic job but I am giving them a B in this one category on this one report because I called them and my call fell through the cracks and they didn't get back to my the first time after a week or two but they apologized and made it right. Really, I'd want this to be an A- or a B+ because they really are fantastic. Anyways, Bill asked a few questions on the phone, and then offered to come out the very next day. The time was a bit awkward as we had a birthday party happening that day at 11am, so he offered to come between 9am and 10am. I said okay, and sure enough he came punctually on time, and had the entire issue resolved by 10am fast enough to be out of the way as we continued to set up for the birthday party. I really appreciated the fast, prompt service, particularly during such a busy time of the year. Bill diagnosed that the ducting was the issue, which wasn't even installed by his team, and probably were just old ducts that came with the house from 15 years ago. Essentially it wasn't his fault that the ducting broke, but he took the time to fix it anyways, and he didn't charge me a dime! I guess when you buy a Heating and A/C unit from cool air they want to make sure your unit works and you're happy with it no matter what happens and I really appreciate that!
Description of Work: There was an issue with my heating and air conditioning that was causing large portions of the house to not have any air flow. Bill came over and diagnosed the issue as a broken duct and fixed the issue in about 20 minutes.

Arrived on time and was very good at explaining everything he was doing as well as tips on things I could do myself. I felt he did a good job and will call him again. The charges for the tune up were consistent with what I was quoted over the phone ($160), so no issues there. However, I decided to swap out the thermostat while he was there (I was the one that mentioned I wanted one that was programmable). He charged $150 for one he had in his truck (price included installation). After he left I checked the internet and the unit I bought appears to be an older model and newer ones with all the same features by the same manufacturer are selling for around $60 (and installation took about 10 minutes).
Description of Work: Annual tune up / service of both heat and air conditioning units. Also purchased and installed a new programmable thermostat.

Dear Karen, Thank you for your report. We are so happy that you were pleased with your experience with us. I wanted to clarify your comment about the thermostat. Because we always carry the best and latest parts and equipment, we received the model that I believe that you are referring to. However, upon installation of about 30 thermostats, a large number of customers reported failure of that particular model thermostat. We ended up shipping our entire inventory back, and continue using the model provided to you....where zero issues have been reported to us. It also has better ease of use and is simpler to operate. As with all technical things, sometimes the latest and supposed greatest...isn't. Bill would have been happy to explain that had he known of your concern. And as far as pricing, the internet price I think you saw doesn’t reflect shipping, and parts-house mark-up to us. And just so you know, the standard Industry price of thermostat installation is normally around $200. But your bill was actually discounted because you did both tune-ups at the same time, plus and additional discount on the thermostat was given because you are an Angie’s List member. I hope that I’ve addressed any/all questions. If not, please feel free to call me. We thank you for your business and look forward to helping you in the future! It was a pleasure dealing with you! :)

Having had a service visit from one HVAC specialist who advised that I needed to replace the heat exchange within my furnace at a cost of $1600 (or alternatively replace the whole unit for $2500) I called Cool Air for a second opinion. Bill turned up for his initial service visit promptly and set to work diagnosing the problem. He found that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the heat exchange and the reason why the furnace wasn't working was because no power was going to the fan. He isolated the problem to the electrical board and suggested a replacement. Bill took the time to explain and fully demonstrate exactly how he knew it was the board, which gave me full confidence in him. A couple of days later Bill came back with the new board and it took about an hour for him to install it and have the heating working again. He also spent another hour helping to adjust the dampers in my heating/air ducts to get better heat distribution. Overall, I was extremely impressed with Bill and his level of service and professionalism. His superb reputation is obviously thoroughly deserved and I would recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Our furance wasn't working as the the electrical board controlling it need replacing. We also needed some adjustments to the dampers in the duct work to try to get more heat downstairs and less upstairs.

The company who installed my heating/air system 13 years ago came to check my situation when our furnace stopped working. They said the furnace either needed repairs for $2100 or replacement for $3600. They also said that we needed duct replacement for 3800. I called Cool Air Technologies and Bill came out at replaced the collapsed return duct and got things going. He explained that we would need replacement in a couple of years but that all was ok for right now. No need to replace duct work. Gave me fair price for the amount of time/work and even gave me $20 off because I used Angies List. I will use him again and recommend Cool Air Technologies without reservation.

It went very well. The service was prompt, efficient and repairs were effective. This was during the very cold weather period at the end of December and early January. We very much appreciated his prompt attention.
Description of Work: Mike responded the same day for a service call on our heater which was not igniting. After repairing the switch that ignites the furnace, he also replaced the thermostat that did not seem to be functioning properly. A few days later, we had a problem with the furnace not staying at the set temperature. Mike returned, ordered a part that had malfunctioned and returned a few days later to repair it. In the meantime, he showed us how to keep the furnace running if it malfunctioned.

I was very pleased. Bill, the owner, is a very honest guy. Instead of selling me the super efficient furnace I requested for the rebates, he told me why it wasn't a good idea to put something like that in my part of town. Also, he gave me suggestions on things to try before putting in A/C. That's why I like Cool Air Technologies - that kind of honesty. When they put the new furnace in, the two technicians were very courteous and polite and hard working. They not only install, but will come out promptly if you have any problems. I highly recommend them.

We had a great experience with Cool Air. Bill came out quickly and, with our budget in mind, gave us options of how to move forward. After looking into 3 other companies, we were most comfortable with Bill. Cool Air was able to install the furance the day after we signed to use them (also the day before Thanksgiving). My wife was home during the installation. She said she was very impressed with the professionalism and especially the amount of work put in to cleaning up before the installers left. Since the installation, we have had no issues and the system works as Bill said it would.

I told him that I found out about his company through Angie's list and he gave me a $20 discount. After he left, I looked up the part number on internet and found out that the price of the replaced board was in the range $130-200. The next day I called him and asked what the parts/labor breakdown was and he told me that the labor is $85/hr. Since he worked ~ 2 hrs, I figured that I should have been charged (at the most) 2x $85 + $200 = $370. As I said earlier I was charged $630. I felt that although the service was good, the price was outrageous. I will only use them again in the future after exhausting all other options. In other words, they will not be my first choice.
Description of Work: My house heater furnace was not working. The technician, also business owner, showed up on time and was very professional. He tried several things to diagnose the problem and finally called his expert contact and I was told that the control board is bad and needs to be replaced and that the price was $650. Due to the cold weather we had at the time, I accepted the proposal and the next day, he came in on time and replaced the board and the heater was working well.

After careful review of your report, my husband and I disagree with your inaccurate findings. The price you found on the Internet is not even close to being accurate. As often happens, people often find wholesale pricing, or parts found in China. The prices do not factor in parts-house, and distributor mark-ups, and delivery cost of the part…and are often not even the correct brand for the furnace. Due to the nature and complexity of the job, you were given a Flat Rate price to fix your job...NOT an hourly labor rate. My husband, the owner, explained his diagnosis and gave you a price that was Approved by you. The price that you were given is standard in the industry....and possibly significantly less, than going with another company. Because we are owner operated, we are usually the best price amongst our competitors. Had you price compared the cost of the job performed as opposed to the inaccurate cost of the part, you would have found what all of our customers on Angie’s List find...that Cool Air Technologies offers the best value and service to its customers. While we strived to provide you with quick service and a fair price, we are sorry that you feel disappointed. In the 24 hours that we located and installed your part, we wish that you had contacted us so that we could clear up any misunderstanding. We work VERY hard to provide excellent service, price and value....especially in light of these hard financial times for everyone. We hope the almost 90 reports of AAAAAA Rating with Angie's List speak for themselves.

From the initial quote to job completion, Cool Air Technologies was fantastic. Bill (the owner) came out and gave me a fair estimate and didn't try to sell me a system that I would never use given my geographic location in Southern California. We use our heat and A/C maybe 3 or 4 months (combined) out of the year so spending a lot for a super high efficiency furnace and higher SEER A/C was not cost effective (unless I wanted to waste money) and Bill helped cement this in my head. Other companies tried to push 95% AFUE and 16 SEER systems due to incentives, but for my specific situation it wasn't appropriate. On the install day, Larry and Richard showed up on time, did great work and cleaned up after they were done each day. Both were very friendly and courteous to me and my family. Overall, my experience was excellent with Cool Air Technologies and I highly recommend their services to anyone needing any HVAC work whether it's just a tune up or a new install.
Description of Work: Cool Air Technologies removed our 35 year old furnace, A/C unit and attic air ducts and replaced them with an 80% AFUE gas furnace, 13 SEER A/C unit and new attic ducts.

My home air conditioner stopped working. The main fan in the unit outside wasn't working. I phoned Cool Air, the owners/owner's wife took the call and set a good appointment time for me. The owner of Cool Air showed up on time, diagnosed the problem, explained the problem, gave the price, and replaced the part. The air conditioner was fixed. I asked about the condition of my air conditioner and the heating unit. Bill took the time to check things out and assured me everything was in good condition. He didn't try to push any repairs or sell me anything. He even aimed all my vents down to the proper angle. Going by my experience, Cool Air Technologies is exactly the company you hope for when your air conditioner breaks down.

They came over and checked my system. Told me it would probably last longer but it was a very old system. I wanted to replace the system and add an air filter. They quoted me a price and said I could finance it for 12mo. no interest. I applied, got the loan and they installed it within a few days. They came on time and were finished quickly. They cleaned up as they went. They showed me how to operate and take care of the system. I was very pleased with their work. I feel that if I had any problems with the system they would respond quickly.

I called about noon and explained I needed to be able to heat the house. I also explained I wanted a particular model with push buttons. (The warranty company had just replaced my broken push-button thermostat with a Robertshaw. I'm handicapped and the tiny lever on the Robertshaw made it unusable... their attitude was it's just tough luck for me.) Cool Air called back about 3:30pm and he said he would get the thermostat I requested and would be able to install it about 5:30pm. By 6:15pm, the new thermostat was installed (they set it and tested it, to be sure it worked properly) and I'll have heat tonight.

Bill is absolutely examplary! He is the kind of dream serviceman I think we all wish he had for all of our problems. Not only did he diagnose and fix the issue with my A/C unit, he stayed around to make sure the A/C was working as well as he wanted it to. He discovered the A/C was only cooling the air by 10-12 degrees so he stayed around longer to figure out what the problem was. Bill found some inefficiencies around the home, and he explained them to me in words that I could understand. What a friendly guy! Here's where it gets exciting! He found some inefficiencies that made him think some major work might be required. He knew that I had recently purchased this home and he asked if I had a home warranty. He said that instead of hiring Cool Air Technologies to do the work, I should call my home warranty folks because the problems with the A/C might be covered. Bill said he could easily fix the problems but he'd have to charge his standard $80 rate, whereas my home warranty would only require a $50 deductible. Imagine that! A serviceman who TRULY holds my best interests at heart! Trying to save me money, even though it cost him! Talk about trusthworthy! I am looking at having my A/C unit replaced in a few years and I have no doubt at all I will be calling these folks up to do it.

Called on a Tuesday evening (after they were closed) and left a message. Received a call back on Wednesday saying that they could schedule someone to come out on Thursday or Friday to take a look at our broken A/C (it wasn't coming on at all). Woman on the phone was very friendly (Sue), and we scheduled for Friday since we were not going to be around on Thursday. When they called to confirm on Wednesday, by husband happened to mention I was 7 months pregnant, and they said they would make an effort to come by that afternoon instead since we were in the middle of a heat wave and I must be very uncomfortable. They were able to come out Wednesday afternoon, and Bill diagnosed the problem, saying that we needed a new blower motor and that it would be about $800. He said he could come back the next day and take the old one out and hopefully get the new part (if they had it in stock). He warned me that they may not, and they would have to order it, which would take longer. So, he came back on Thursday, removed the old one, and went to go look for the part. They did not have it, but he said they could order it and have it shipped overnight for an extra $60. We said okay, and he said he would split the $60 rush fee with us. He returned on Friday with the part and installed it, and ended up only charging us the original estimate of $800 (without the rush fee). He also told us why the motor went out and how to prevent it from happening in the future, and he directed us to a great website to order cheap air filters. We were very happy with the service and felt they went above and beyond trying to get our A/C fixed during a rare Southern California heat wave.

Both Trish and Bill were very professional and friendly. I got my A/C unit repaired the same day I contacted them. I would definitely recommend Cool Air Technologies.
Description of Work: I was having problems with the A/C unit not running consistently. I called Trish, the office manager at Cool Air Technologies, to explain the problem and she scheduled an appointment with Bill that day. Bill arrived right on time. He first checked the air filter in my furnace, which needed replacement. I had a spare and Bill installed the clean filter. Bill then checked the A/C unit. He immediately determined that the compressor on the unit would not start-up. Rather than replace the entire system, Bill suggested trying a "hard start kit" (basically an extra capacitor), to get the compressor "over the hump". He had one of these units in his truck, hooked it up, and sure enough that did the trick. The cost was marginal, and Bill gave me the Angies' List discount. Bill then checked the entire A/C and furnish system to make sure everything was working properly.
