A representative from the company came to our house and gave me all the details on the quality of the windows and the amount of time the construction would take. He put together a contract for the job, and a few weeks later, workers came out, removed the original window, repaired all the damage done by rain, installed a new frame, put in flashing that was missing from the original construction, caulked and sealed everything, and installed the new window. The paint crew came in afterwards and repainted after the job was complete. The entire job took 2 1/2 days. Everyone involved was professional and responsive. We are happy with the end result.

I visited the Clark Adams showroom on Artesia Blvd. They showed me the options available for sliding glass patio doors. They scheduled an appointment for an estimator to come by the house. He arrived right on time, was very well prepared with sample materials, pictures, catalogs, etc that helped us to make the selections that we desired. He even made note that we would want the workmen to not wear heavy colognes because my wife is sensitive to those types of odors. The estimate was right where I expected it to be (based on some other reviews that said their prices were a little on the high side), so we agreed to move forward with the project. Clark Adams then made arrangement for someone to come by to take the precise measurements on the door. The measurement-guy came also came by on time for his appointment; he too was very pleasant and professional. He said someone would call in a few days to schedule the installation date, which would be about six weeks in the future. The only area where they fell short was that the call didn't happen for a few weeks, though the project end date was as was within the six week period that was originally given. The installers arrived at their scheduled time (Clark Adams called a few days earlier and said that an earlier time slot was available, but we declined that option). The installation went well. The installers didn't wear any cologne, so someone was paying attention to the details. The door works flawlessly, and looks great. We would gladly use Clark Adams again.
Description of Work: The provider removed our family room french doors that went to the outside patio and replaced it with a sliding glass door.

The initial sales visit was longer than I expected, but a lot was covered. A price was determined, but I changed to a wood window product for the livingroom, so there was a difference in price. The cost of the price did not include staining the new LR window to match the existing windows. So I am working on getting that completed. The field technician who came out to remeasure was very professional and made other suggestions that made sense to go with the look of the house. The installation went well, although the crew was late arriving both days. The crew covered everything, and the dust was minimal. They helped me move the furniture back into place, and took the air conditioner and other stuff to the garage. They also went over the operation of the new windows and doors, which was very helpful. I thought the crew or someone from the office should have informed me before any photographs were taken of my property. The sales person took a picture of my back window, and the lead person for the installation took pictures of my sliding door. I feel it was inappropriate to do that without first informing me why the photos were being taken. I told a technical person back in the office that I was not pleased that photos were taken without my knowledge, and if they planned on using the photos for marketing purposes. She assured me they were taken for agencies that monitor how windows and doors are installed, if done properly. I did have some other administrative problems with people calling me with the incorrect information, as the business office was having technical problems interfacing with their previous billing system. All in all, it was generally a positive experience.

Well, now! I just got off the phone with these folks hoping to set up a site inspection visit to my townhouse for the replacement of a 30-year old garden window (and in the process hopefully identify a good vendor and window product that the rest of my 42 HOA neighbors could use for replacing their own falling apart garden windows!) and I was told that the Clark Adams representative would NOT come out unless both I and my spouse were present. Even after I patiently and repeatedly explained that I am the designated one in our partnership for researching, identifying and managing replacement projects of this nature, I was told that there was no way they would come out unless both people were present. Who are these people to dictate how my wife and I divide and conquer our respective home tasks? She and I have discussed what we are looking for and it's my job to source it, check it out and get it installed. Oh and BTW, I do a lot of this kind of thing: just finished an almost $500K renovation management project for one of my real estate clients so I kinda know what this stuff is all about. Not a great customer service approach, IMHO. Awkward!!

We have had two contracts with them and we are going to have our next contract in about two weeks. They come out and do everything necessary to replace the windows with a good quality product. From the initial inspection, measurements, repair of walls, finish of the outside stucco, inside plaster and trim work everything is done in a professional manner from start to finish. They clean up after themselves completely. The only thing that the home owner has to do is match the paint on the finished product.

The team at Clark Adam's did a wonderful job with our window installation. There was no damage to the walls at all, which can be a big problem with some companies. The team was professional, on-time, and made sure to clean up everything at the end of the day. Although they are not inexpensive, I feel that it is worth it to invest in a high quality product on a big project like this. I will use Clark Adam's Co. again in the future.

It went spectacularly. The quality of the materials and the quality of the work was wonderful. The crew that came to do the work was polite, efficient, and really good about cleaning up their work space. They also were excellent about accommodating the scheduling needs of our household (for example, they finished the windows in my baby's room in time for him to take his nap, and had the area completely cleaned and vacuumed before his naptime). They were also very understanding in dealing with our alarm company's difficulty in getting a technician here to do the rewiring on the new windows, and did not charge us any additional fee for having to come back on another day to deal with the alarm company. Our whole experience with Clark Adams, from sales to installation, was wonderful. It's true that their products are a bit on the expensive side, but I feel they are worth every penny. I would definitely use this service provider again.
Description of Work: Clark Adams replaced 8 windows and one sliding glass door in my house. The work took one full day and one half day. They then came back for one half day to remove the frame of two windows to allow our alarm company to rewire out alarm sensors.

They do high end windows and it was too much for an apartment building and that was the problem over there. We had a miscommunication with him when I called and I should have said it was for an apartment building. When the guy came out he showed me what he had and he gave me an estimate but his quality of windows was more for a house. If I was putting it for my home I would have considered him but for an apartment building the price was too much. Their price was more than double than what anybody else bid. The guy told me upfront that the windows were not for an apartment. I think the quality of their windows and the guy who came out was great. The issue was just that his stuff was not designed for apartments. The security features and things that you do in an apartment and they don't do that they are not responsible for that. They maybe do it for a high end apartment building but not for regular apartment buildings. I knew upfront and he went ahead and gave me a presentation. I liked the windows and if it was my house it would have been a different issue. I had no problem with anything that they did, everything was great and it was just the wrong product for my building. It was my fault because I should have told them it was for an apartment building. When I made the appointment I should have said it was for an apartment building. After my experience with them whenever I called the other people I made sure I told them upfront that it was for an apartment building so if they didn’t have materials for an apartment building then we could just close the conversation there. I would revert to the next contractor and I like them for that. They were the first company that I called and it didn’t occur to me at that time that I needed to explain that this was an apartment building and not my house. I was looking at this as all the same but it is very different and he came out and explained to me what they do. I saw the quality of the windows and definitely the price I knew right away what we were talking about. They were responsive and the guy came out right away. I called on Friday and he came out on Tuesday, he came out and he explained everything they had. We knew after the first 10 minutes that we had a problem but he still gave the info. He was here on time. His professionalism was excellent. I would get an estimate from them again if it was for a house.

We used Clark Adams once before so they gave us a discount for coming back. Once again the work was superb and the workers were courteous and professional. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves and were efficient. Al, who schedules the work went out of his way to get all of the permitting done which involved coordinating several inspections and getting permits. He even went to the various city offices himself to obtain the permits. Al, Stephen the salesman and Greg the Field Technician were all very responsive. If not available they called me back right away. They even helped to get less expensive work done for some of the demo work. They all went above and beyond and the work was superb.

Punctual, professional, courteous and cleaned up at the end of each day and after completion of the job. The company is well run. Starting with Stephen Campbell, estimator/designer; Greg Tieman, production field manager and Rafael Ulloa, project manager all work together with you to make sure everything is done right. Anderson windows are excellent but they are only as good as how they are installed and Clark Adams installers are experts in this area. Received discount as an Angie's List member and discount for size of job. Financing and One Year Same as Cash is available. It was a large job but done in a timely manner with a minimum of household disruption. The windows look beautiful!

Josh, the sales rep seemed to always have a conflicting schedule with me. I have been trying to meet with him for over 6 months and he has still not come out to my home. He did finally give me a rough estimate over the phone, of over $3,000.00 to replace 1 window. He told me was going on vacation and would give me a call when he returned and I have still not heard back from him.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of Los Angeles
In response to Member's posting on Angie's List, Member's posting and memory varies greatly from the facts. The estimator, Josh, showed up at Member's residence on time for their first scheduled appointment on Feb. 15, 2010. She was not at home and when contacted by phone, she told Josh that she had forgotten about the appointment. She asked if he could wait for two hours until she could return. Josh told her he could not and suggested that she call him when she was available. Five days later, she called Josh and they spent thirty minutes on the phone discussing the project. The project was a sliding patio door, not a window as Member claims. Josh gave only a rough estimate of the price, after which she asked for another appointment to return and review the project. Three days later, Member called Josh, cancelling the appointment saying that she didn't want to spend the amount of money previously "quoted" for replacing the sliding patio door. Three months later, Member called Josh again, requesting another appointment. She mentioned that during her contractor search, no other company had discussed the energy savings of the patio door as well as he had and wanted to hear more. Josh was scheduled to be out of town and couldn't set an appointment at that time. He requested that she call him after his return date because of her history of forgetting and cancelling appointments. To this date, she never called back.

Having made initial contact by phone, I met a sales representative at the Company's showroom in Redondo Beach and was able to make my selection and closely inspect similar doors. It was very hard to get a feel for pricing but I suspect that the price level is HIGH. Other Anderson doors (e.g. at Home Depot) are "not comparable", and in my situation a good door and quality installation were key, so I went with Clark Adams. A experienced and knowledgable production field manager subsequently came by to view and measure the door location and the finalize specs for the door. He returned during installation and was a great help. The door was ordered from Anderson. A few weeks later the door was completed and we fixed a time and date for installation. Since I had had problems with leaks around the deck area, Clark Adams put me in touch with a deck specialist, with whom they "work closely" on projects and which could measure and install the waterproofing "pan" at the time of window installation. On installation day, everyone turned up and the french door was installed on a temporary basis, as planned. The installers were competent, courteous and professional. However, the field manager identified a small section of wood floor that needed to be cut back for best installation of pan and door, and that step fell through the proverbial cracks. Neither the deck specialist nor Clark Adams did the work, nobody measured for the pan, and the next day, when the job was supposed to be completed, nobody turned up! After a couple of phone calls, Clark Adams came the next week to cut back the wood and let the project continue. The end result is a great looking door, professionally installed, and if it serves its purpose and stops all leaking from the area, it will be worth every penny. One post script ... after a few days I opened the doors wide and noticed that eight of the screws connecting the door to the frame were missing. I phoned Clark Adams and the problem was soon fixed. Clark Adams definitely stands by it's work and does good work. It is not cheap. The sales rep did not assign any value to the Angie's List 10% coupon - the quote included some high base price to which a 10% "special discount" had already been applied. The experience with the sales rep reminded me of buying a car, without good competitive information. I recommend going in with competitive quotes. My fault. Nearly two months later, the deck work is still incomplete. This is not the fault of Clark Adams, and perhaps highlights how relatively quickly the door itself was installed. But it IS the fault of the contractor recommended by Clark Adams.
Description of Work: Installing a replacement French door to an exposed, outside deck. Previous door may have contributed to leaks in the area of the deck.

Clark Adams came out to our house and measured for new windows. We chose the Renewal by Andersen Terratone color for the exteriors and Canvas interiors that matched our house perfectly. Everything went like clockwork. We had our new windows installed within 3 weeks and it looks wonderful. The installation crew was prompt, hard-working and very clean and neat. They even covered the old wood frames to match the new windows. We couldn't be happier with the results. And we qualify for the Federal Tax Credit of $1,500, a reason to look forward to doing our taxes in April for once.

Representative came out and measured window. Window was ordered and arrive approx. 2 weeks later. They called to schedule an install date. Installers arrived right on time, were courteous, efficient, extremely clean and professional. Once the window was installed we found a very small flaw located between the two panes of one of the small panels. The installer wrote it up, took a photo, and submitted it to the company. The company asked for additional photos which we took ourselves and submitted. A new window was ordered and they just called to say it would be installed next week. We are impressed that the company stood by their guarantee for complete satisfaction and would use them again for future work.

It was an excellent experience from start to finish. Clark Adams staff was very communicative and we knew just what to expect. What we didn't really expect as many of us have not experienced through remodels, was a pleasent expereince. The team that installed the windows were very professional and did an excellent job. We knew the windows were good quality, but having the install go so well, made it even better. We are now enjoying a much clearer view,as well as better insulation and sun control. We highly recommend Clark Adams Company for window installations.
Description of Work: The company representative came to our home and reviewed with us all the replacement window options available. Upon agreement to purchase Renewal by Anderson windows, the technican then came to our home and measured all window areas and discussed framing options. He also discussed the planned installation. The company then notified us when the windows would be in and set up delivery and installation schedule. They arrived on time and completed the install as per the schedule. do clear as much from the window area as possible to expedite the install.

The installation and finishing are aspects a customer can't predict unless you've worked with the workmen before. The door installation was completed in one day by two workers. They made efforts to vacuum ongoing when there was drilling to minimize dust inside. The men who did the staining were meticulous, methodical and the lead man had 9 years of experience at the company. He obviously took pride in his work and knew what he was doing. He made efforts to re-confirm my satisfaction throughout the whole process which took three separate days of finishing. I couldn't have asked for better finishers! The interior craftsman style framing and overall look of the door came out beyond my expectations! Even family members who don't necessarily care for this style admired the door and how it tied together the look inside. My house is not a bungalow, but the signature door was a wonderful step in that direction. So kudos to the Adams Company for professionalism from the start to finish.
Description of Work: Adams Company installed a craftsman style fiberglass door with side lights in a natural wood stain and obscure glass insets. I had spent time to see and check prices of about four door companies in the area. Compared to other styles of doors, bungalow style doors with many options are still limited among local companies and it eventually becomes a custom door order. I wanted a craftsman door of good quality that would not crack; obscure glass compatible with the style and hoped for good installation. I did have an Adams sliding door installed about 8 years ago which has held up very well. However, I was willing to consider other companies. Their final price was in the high-mid range. What made me decide on Adams was the production field manager who had experience framing craftsman doors in his own properties, so he knew the look of the interior framing and showed me examples. Also that Adams was able to order an obscure glass, not in their catalogs or usual stock and one not offered by other companies I had contacted. This became important because my house doesn't have an entrance way, so the side glass needed to be rather obscure, but also let in light. They also secured one door sample, so I could look at a particular style of glass design. The door took about two months for delivery. They asked me to come see the door assembled before the staining at their main store to see if I approved of it.

I was kept up to date by Clark Adams Company personnel from the time I signed the contract until the time of the actual installation date. They have a detailed pre-installment procedure consisting of two measurements of each window before the actual installment. I also received information on the tax stimulus rebate. All my concerns and questions were answered. The clean-up post-installation was great. The windows sold by this company are "TOP OF THE LINE" ANDERSEN WINDOWS. I advise consumers to beware of the "cheap" energy saving windows. It is better to pay more for the TOP OF THE LINE WINDOWS than to purchase the cheap windows. In the past I did deal with another window company (L.A. Vinyl) but their work was so inferior, the service horrible and the clean-up was non-existent and I ended up doing most of the cleaning up myself. My recommendation to anyone considering window replacement is the following: Beware when you select the cheapest priced window installment, Sometimes buying a cheaper, inferior quality window is not always the best choice. I found out the hard way. I highly recommend Clark Adams Window/Door Replacement Company and the Andersen Renewal windows. These windows are absolutely exquisite, beautiful and easy to clean.

I thought that they did an excellent job. They were here for a week, and they were great. I have had many compliments from all of our neighbors about the windows. The sales people were great too. They gave us several options on what we could do. They were definitely up to our standards. They also informed us about the fire codes in the bedrooms that we didn't know about.
