Pacific Homeworks is the most dishonest company I have ever come into contact with. We had our kitchen remodeled by them in 2009 and ever since we have fought with them over bad install, bad products, etc. We have accepted their coverups and fixes year after year and enough is enough. Over this time they have replaced the floor tile multiple times, the backsplash, multiple times, cabinet drawers and doors multiple times, etc. As early as last year they were still trying to fix and cover up their bad products and install. We have called so many times it's unthinkable and we get ignored for months and months. Then they have the nerve to keep our number on their list to call for new jobs! Are they kidding!?!? In the past month two top people came out to once again look at the mess we have here and then we were offered $2000 so that we can hire someone to "glue it back on" when they know this can't be done. If that could be done wouldn't they of taken that route instead of replacing it multiple times? On a job we paid over $26,000 for it is an insult that they would offer that amount to shut us up and in doing so knowing we would not be able to come back to them anymore. After we declined and said that was not going to be acceptable they said they would send out someone to give an estimate of what it would cost to fix. Two weeks later we had no contact or estimate. Now they are refusing to show us the estimate and are now saying they will offer us $1,500. It's laughable because if $2000 wasn't acceptable how did it go down and what are they hiding not showing us the estimate. We know it is because the estimate is much much higher then they want to be responsible for when they caused this mess to begin with. Now the new thing they are saying is that we have to warranty even though we all know that's not true. I have never seen people blatantly lie like these people do. Apparently they think their customers are stupid and I can see now we are not the only ones who are treated this way by this company.

Salesman refused to give me an estimate unless my wife was present. I explained that I have full decision-making over this project and that my wife was not interested in being part of the process. He said she'd be interested in the options and needed to hear the work details. I told him we wanted an inexpensive cement driveway and whatever I decided worked for her. He kept insisting he talk to her. This was a total waste of my time.

Instead of sending an electrician to give me a quote, they sent out an additional sales man to tell me other things that are wrong with my house. They completed the work, after canceling and re-starting it a couple of different times.

They are a very high pressure sales organization only interested in getting you to sign a contract the day they come out. The representative was rude, disrespectful, and not interested in listening to our needs - only committed to finishing his sales script. It was dark when he arrived to our house. When I asked how he would be able to measure for the estimate he just said it wasn't an issue - he had a flashlight, and could estimate based on his experience. He was in his early 20s and didn't look like he had ever lifted a paint brush. After he provided a quote we said we wanted to think about it and asked for references he called his manager. The manager told me was ILLEGAL for them to give names & numbers of their customers. Horrible experience - would never consider doing business with this company.

They were kind of pushy. I went to Angie’s List to try and compare and I felt that they were expensive which they themselves even said they were but they said it was because of their higher quality materials. They were canvassing the neighborhood and they came to our house. I would possibly use them in the future but I would do a lot of comparison shopping to make sure that it was indeed a reasonable amount.

The work was good. The service afterwards was not. People made appointments to check on the work and they were either late or didn't show up at all. Recently, someone came out to check the window. There was a part that needed to be repaired. He said he would come out to repair it. I called him several times and left a message and called the home office several times and never received a response.

I told them we were getting additional estimates. They did an extensive presentation which lasted almost 2 hours and then spent another 30 + minutes playing the game of this price "is only good today". Then calling the manager to see what he "do for us" Every time we said no, he would lower the price a little more but only if we signed right then. Meanwhile, my husband had gotten home from work and had not had dinner. They did not get the message and finally told them they needed to leave. That was at 8 PM! The next day we got a call and they wanted to come by to give us the bottom line quote. We told them to mail it. They may have a good product and may even do a good job but we would never do business with a company that uses that high pressure sales pitch.
Description of Work: We were planning to paint our home so when a gentleman knocked on the door I asked if they did painting. He said "yes" so I let him set up an appointment for an estimate. BIG MISTAKE! They do not paint homes, they use a product called TEXCOTE.

Ok.....there is good news, bad news and then good news about this whole project. First, the good news; the product itself - the stucco paint is of excellent quality. Pacific Homeworks matched the original paint color of the stucco perfectly. The house looks beautiful. In fact, it looks better than it did when I bought it brand new. But I paid for extraordinary protection from the elements as well. TEX-COTE does not disappoint. Throw water on the side of the house and the new surface repels all of the water instantly. Same for the eaves. The whole house repels water now. Before, the stucco absorbed the water and took hours to dry out. (This was from watering the lawn.) The wet patch look wasn't a problem but possible water damage underneath the stucco against bare wood over the years is a very big problem! So I am just as pleased with the new protection for the house as I am with it new good looks. My neighbors concur. The bad news; apparantly, Pacific Homeworks has many locations. Though I live in Riverside, I delt with the San Diego division. It's not that they don't have all of their ducks in a row, (they don't), they have a few ducks missing altogether. As well, the team they sent out to paint the house lacked any knowledge of the TEX-COTE product they were to apply. This is a big problem. There are 10 - yes, 10 steps that must be followed faithfully or the paint will separate from the house in as little as 6 months. Worse, if the 10 steps aren't followed to the letter, the manufacturer of the paint will void the warranty. If all the steps are followed perfectly, no problems for 20 years. This is why I hired my cousin who is a handyman of the first caliber. He acted on my behalf watching the whole operation take place. I gave him the phone number of the inspector who was to show up now and then to inspect the progress of his workmen as well as the quality of their work. (I had to go to the office everyday and didn't want to fly blind on this $18,000 project. My cousin was perfect for this oversight as he had both restuccoed and painted many houses large and small.) I received 20 gallons of a special primer the workmen were to apply to the stucco. They used only 8 gallons and told my cousin they were finished and ready to spray on the paint. My cousin immediately called the inspector and told him what was going on. To his credit, the inspector told his workmen to stop their work immediately and wait for his arrival. (My cousin had given the foreman his phone with the inspector on the line.) He drove up from San Diego and inspected the work. The primer was white and you could see the original sand colored stucco showing through it and many places missed altogether. From what my cousin told me, the inspector read the riot act to the workmen liberally laced with strong language that worked wonders getting his message across. He retrained them on the spot. All 20 gallons was to be used such that all of the stucco is to be thoroughly covered with no hint of the original color showing. The primer is vital for holding the paint to the stucco. It is produced by the same manufacturer of the TEX-COTE paint. All 10 steps were then followed to the letter under the watchful eye of my cousin and verified by the inspector. (My cousin had called the manufacturer of the paint system and was told the 10 steps and their importance. He also spoke the same technical language as the inspector so they got along fine. No doubt, the home office knew they were being watched throughout this project and acted accordingly.) When the project was finished, the inspector, my cousin and I did a final inspection of the house and bought off the work. I highly recommend this procedure (hiring a good handyman knowledgeable in this area to act in your best interests) for any project this expensive and important. A small amount of money now ($500.00) could save you thousands and untold problems and hassles later. The missing ducks problem; scheduling was a big foul-up. Somebody forgot to order the primer. The TEX-COTE paint arrived first. The crew showed up the next day only to find out that the primer was never ordered. They left because they wanted to paint the eaves first and that paint was never ordered either. It took two extra weeks before the paint for the eaves arrived and another week for the primer. The left hand definitely didn't know what the right hand was doing. There were apologies all around. Still, the San Diego office needs professional guidance badly. Does their Orange County office fair any better? Don't know. Sorry. But I doubt that the problem is systemic among all the offices. The second good news; a separate crew arrived to change the sliding glass door. These guys were great and very professional. Again, my cousin was in attendance. He too was impressed. They had the bad door out in 25 minutes, the framework refinished and adjusted for the new door and the new door installed 20 minutes later. All voids were filled and areas shimmed perfectly for a beautiful fit all around. The finished job was perfect, they picked up their trash and hauled away the bad door. I couldn't have been more pleased. The new door they installed is very high quality. The sliding grooves are on the inside of the house. No worries about dirt and mud fouling up the sliding operation or damaging over time the wheels that allow the door to move. In essence, maintenance free. Also include a good and clever locking system that cannot be breached from the outside. Good looks, great operation and built to last. I'm very satisfied. Some advice and a warning; It took almost 5 weeks to complete the job. Be prepared for delays. If you have to move things out of the way, they may be out of the way for quite awhile. Hire your own representative (you know well) who is knowledgeable in the area you are hiring people to work on. He can keep you updated about the work and act as an incentive for the work personnel to be more professional. Also, he can make sure no one leaves your property with more than he arrived with. (These workmen barely spoke English. My cousin speaks fluent Spanish. A big plus and something you should consider for your representative.) The warning; the salesperson you will deal with. He was professional and knew the product well. He answered all of my questions satisfactorily. I was and still am sold on the TEX-COTE product. It is exactly what I wanted for many reasons. Maintaining my house in good condition over my remaining years without the worry of major and costly repairs when I'm 80 is not the least of them. So I had good reason to spend the good portion of the time he was with me negotiating the price. The first price quoted was obscene - way too high! By Thousands! This is a hard sell presentation! Be prepared for it and be ready to spend an hour or more to work out a satisfactory deal. Really! It will take that long! (Is this product worth it? For me, yes!) The reason is the hard sell. I am a salesman and have been for 40 years. I've trained salesmen in the past. I knew what he was doing and knew what not to say as well as the pertinent things to ask. You have to be knowledgeable about what you want done and what is involved in getting your project done. This will save you thousands of dollars through your negotiations. When we reached a point of disagreement he couldn't handle, he called his "boss". When he handed me the phone, I said "So you're the TO!" There was silence on the other side of the line. A "TO" (pronounced tee oh) is short for "take over". It's standard in high pressure sales to get you to agree with what they are asking for by reason of a different person stepping in who can supposedly solve your problem and the salesperson's pricing problem. This is a staged event and I complimented them about how well they carried it out. We quickly settled on a price. If the product is good enough to fight for, do it. But be prepared for a lengthy battle. Bottom line; The product is great if done correctly. The San Diego office is very unprofessional - try the Orange Count office instead. The initial price you will be quoted is high enough to have a good view of the planet Mars. Whatever they quote you, try for a third of that less. ($25,000? Start at $14,000!)
Description of Work: I contracted with Pacific Homeworks in San Diego to paint the stucco exterior of my house with a product called TEX-COTE. It is 50 times thicker than normal paint, will not crack or peel or discolor for a period of 20 years. Before they painted the stucco, they repaired any cracks and filled a few places around the garage door that had separated in chunks from the house. This filler is a better product than normal stucco material in that after it fills all cracks and voids, it stays elastic so that it will stretch and contract as the stucco does when going through very hot days and cold nights. They also painted the eaves of the house and any wood parts of the outside of the house with a special paint that repels water and for all practical purposes makes the wood fireproof. The paint also comes with a non-peel or cracking warranty for 20 years. The house was built in 1991 and was starting to show so cracks in the stucco and missing pieces here and there and the wood was showing through my last paint job 5 years ago so I figured it was time for this project. Also, I am 66 years old and liked the idea of a maintenance free house for 20 years. As well, if I waited another 10 years, what would the costs be for this project due to inflation and higher interest rates at a time when I am on a fixed income in my late 70's? I also had them replace a sliding glass door at the back of the house that was on its last legs. The door that they installed was very high quality and surprised me with how well it was engineered. It's a joy to use.

As it was the last time, both the canvasser and their manager was courteous and polite. Still, I opted to decline Pacific Homeworks' assessment and free estimate offer specifically because of my previous encounter with Pacific Homeworks' sales personnel this past November 2012. Why? 1. Three hours of a sales pitch; NO free estimate. 2. Hard, and persistent attempt at upsell on services and products I knew (and told) them I didn't need. The sales person actually tried to scare me on foundation, mold, etc. issues that a precisely knew is not a concern at all. 3. Despite my polite, and repeated asking for the free estimate -- and the sales person supposedly calling his manager -- it was not forthcoming. I was very nice to them but had run out of patience/time and asked them to leave however, they didn't do so despite my asking them repeatedly. Only when I threatened to call the local Police Department did they finally leave the property. This time around, when I spoke to George (the canvasser's manager), I communicated the frustration and issue I had with their sales personnel. George sounded receptive of the criticism; specifically, their sales personnel need to have expertise and knowledge; be customer-focused by really listen to their customers, and provide expert, sound advice. Wasting a customers time like that should be criminal. I will NOT and refuse do business with Pacific Homeworks because of such bad experience I had with their sales personnel.
Description of Work: It was a door-to-door canvasser; he was courteous and polite. So was his manager to try to confirm whether or not I can make myself available for their personnel to come by the next day at 3:00 PM PDT to assess and provide a free estimate.

They canceled the contract as I would not accept the increased charges. We had a signed contact. I am now seeking legal action.
Description of Work: Aggressive door-to-door sales. First quote was $19,164 but reduced to $16,289 if I signed same day. I said No. Office called and rescheduled another "quick" visit. They came in with a long pitch and I negotiated for 2 hours. The final price was $13,200 for a 50 year lifetime warranty room. We signed the contract and I give a down payment of $500 After 5 weeks of chasing down the "re-measure" appointment, they came over, completed the re-measure and I paid them another 3800 down to start the job. 2 weeks later, Their managers called me back to tell me that unless I agreed to re-write the contract and increase the price to 18000 they would need to cancel the contract. The CONTRACTED price was too low as they need to make a better profit to do the job. And before this, he said this was in my best interest as they did not want me to incur $10,000-$15,000 of additional charges with "things" they might find wrong under the roof. "As you never can tell what you will find". I could take option A, B, or cancel the contract. WoW! This company is dishonest, threatening in nature and should be avoided at all cost. NOTE: If anyone would like to hear the complete audio conversation of the salesman and the managers confessions, their tactics and lies, I have them available. Very aggressive & long-winded sales pitch. Team that performed actual work were prompt & professional. Overall price was very expensive compared to other quotes. Roofing system that was installed, very good with excellent reviews that helped justify the higher cost. Actual installation was smooth and professional. Management & sales team very aggressive - be prepared. Financing terms are available, but be sure to understand your terms.

Let me preface the following comments by saying despite the high cost, I was able to save money by negotiating the prices and paying cash, asking for special financing e,g, no interest for 6-12 months, or alternate financing deals through my own credit card company. Also, in the end, I was pleased with the quality of workmanship and warranties provided.3/10/11 - Repair and texcote painting of eaves was completed in 3 days and they did an excellent job. As they worked, they found more and more damaged wood and replaced the wood without extra charge. The work was approved by another company contracted to provide termite extermination. Lifetime warranty against chipping, cracking to me and next owner to follow.11/12/10 - Texcote painting of exterior stucco was completed in 3 days and again, the crew did an excellent job and took care to trench several inches below ground to make sure stucco entirely coated. Gave same lifetime warranty as above.1/10/11 - We had just replaced our entire wood flooring in the master bedroom due to puckering of the floorboards and determined sink overflow from upstairs bathroom ran down the walls to the master bedroom below. In the process of replacing the flooring we found black fungus growing underneath the flooring especially concentrated under the window and had to have the room treated.. During the torrential rains that followed we found water leaking from the window. I decided to replace the window but wanted to be sure the new window would not leak also. They determined that the perimeter stucco around the window did not have flashing and therefore installed flashing, restuccoed and reapplied texcote paint. That procedure along took 3 days to complete. There was no additional charged for the flashing, restucco, or painting. Again, an excellent job.3/14/12 - Based on prior experience with company, they were contracted to install a new vinyl coated aluminum patio cover with lighted fan and two lights as well as install 2 vinyl fences. The patio cover took around 4 days because they were interrupted by rain and then went to work somewhere else before they finished the job. The patio cover turned out fine, however the crew chief subcontracted for electrical work which was botched and I asked company to amend the contract to fix the electrical without extra charge, which they did only when I gave specific instructions to the crew chief about how to hide the wiring. A few weeks later, it started raining and one of the gutters was leaking. After 2 unsuccesful tries to repair the gutter, the crew chief came and found that it was improperly installed and fixed the gutter to my satifaction. I was disappointed by the quality of material used for the vinyl fences, but they did not charge me much for them either. Despite this most recent mishap, I would still recommend them if you want quality workmanship at a high price, but with a company that will likely be around to honor their warranties.
Description of Work: I own a 2,300 square foot two-story home. The following work was performed by Pacific Homeworks;3/10/10 - Repaired all roof under eaves extensively damaged by termite infestation and painted undereaves, exterior doors with Cool Wall Texcote paint; total cost was $984211/12/10 - Pressure washed and Cool Wall Texcote painted entire exterior stucco; total cost was $18,7331/10/11 - Replaced leaking window and repaired perimeter stucco around window; total cost was $1,8753/14/12 - Installed new vinyl coated aluminum patio cover, with lighted fan and two security lights, and two vinyl fences; total cost $9547

One of there guys came knocking at the door on a Saturday asking if we needed any work done. I said maybe in the future. All down hill after that. VERY HIGH PRESSURE started from the start. So, I figured since he was already here why not get estimates. The previous review was right on!! The presentation was very long and they are VERY HIGH PRESSURE for you to sign the contract that day to get the 25% discount. 6,000 to place an aluminum patio cover. 10 X 10 ft....Have a cement slab. no previous patio cover to dispose of , just the cover. WOW! I just had a 40ft vinyl fence with lattice with 1 gate done at another house for almost half this amount. I said you must be kidding? I told him I wanted vinyl ...he said that is not a sturdy enough material for patio covers??? I thought ....What planet are you from? He said "give me your phone number and I will have the boss call you and maybe he can lower the cost". MY BIG MISTAKE! They called and called and begged and begged. Kept lowering the cost. What kind of a business is this? Shoot for the highest price and then change it to anything you want? I wouldn't trust their work no matter how low they went on the price.

My neighbor sent them over as she was having her house painted and I soon realized that they are scam artists. The presentation was very long and they are VERY HIGH PRESSURE for you to sign the contract that day to get the 25% discount. The cost quoted to paint the house and fix the stucco was $18,000 after all the discounts. I would never do business with a company like this. A salesperson knocked on the door and talked to my wife. He indicated that they were doing work in the neighborhood (no way to confirm that) and noticed that our roof was weathered (and it is somewhat.) He asked if they could send out a rep to give us an estimate. My wife agreed and made an appointment. The day of the appointment we were expecting company later, so the rep that came to the house, walked the roof and took pictures in the attic. He told us there were some active leaks but since we were short on time he couldn?t give us any kind of estimate at that time. It later became clear why they needed us to clear our schedule because on the second appointment, we got the hard-core used car / time-share sales pitch. My wife was running late and they wouldn?t start until both of us were home which is straight out of Zig Ziggler sales training 101. Both my wife and I are trained sales professionals and could see right through the whole thing. We repeatedly asked for the abridged presentation but the rep refused to skip through all the cheesy hard-sell stuff and get down to brass tacks. We just wanted to know that this was a reputable company with proper licenses and insurance, but the rep spent 4 hours (no exaggeration) chewing up his sales pitch and spitting it in our mouths like a momma bird. The rep was nice enough, and respectful (of everything but our time) and I have few doubts that the company knows how to install a roof properly (in fact the rep gave us the impression only they could install a roof properly,) but at some point we just wanted to get the numbers and get on with it. When we finally got some numbers, there was the ?mind boggling retail price?, the ?sale of the month price? and the ?one time, until I walk out the door price? which was around $20K for our 19,000 SF roof including removing the old asphalt roof and the shake roof underneath and installing a new deck. We?ve learned (the HARD way) never to sign a contract without getting some more estimates. So we wanted them to guarantee the ?one time, until I walk out the door price? until we could get some competing bids. They wouldn?t give us an itemized estimate so we could get an apples to apples comparison and ABSOLUTELY refused to give us the ?one time price? unless we signed right then and there. There was even some back and forth ?I?m fighting with my manager on your behalf? calls to the manager type stuff that was truly entertaining. The disappointing thing about the whole interaction is that we may well have hired them based on what appeared to be stellar credentials. However, we simply will not do business with companies who do business this way. We need to do our due diligence, especially since this meeting was based on a sales cold call. If we?re going to spend $20K for anything, we?re going to talk to people who have done business with them, check out their license and credentials, and most importantly get more estimates!! We don?t only look at price when hiring a contractor. In fact, we generally toss out the low bid, particularly if it?s really low. We base decisions on research, and the impression we got from the reps as long as the prices are generally within the ballpark of estimates. Before you hire this company do your research and resist their thumb-screw sales pressure. A truly reputable company would not need to resort to these kinds of tactics.
Description of Work: We did not hire this company, but they gave us an estimate for removal of two layers of asphalt plus the shake roof underneath, building a replacement deck and new 30 yr shingles.

We ran into this company doing a door to door sales pitch. They imply they are working in neighborhood, we later found out this was not true. They offer a free estimate, we happened to be in the market for services, so we scheduled an appointment. Huge mistake. They insisted that both husband and wife be present. Two people showed up. They gave a presentation like a timeshare. They wouldn't provide an estimate during the presentation even after we asked multiple times. They insist that you need to hear their entire presentation and even phone their manager. We eventually ended up having to ask them to leave. Complete waste of time, shady business practices, and lowest of the low. Don't ever bother with these people.

They were too responsive, but they were also so pushy. I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole. They came to my door at the time I needed a new roof. I thought I would just see what they had to say, but they wouldn't let me go. They gave me an estimate that was way overpriced. They just kept coming back and coming back and coming back. They just didn't let up. I didn't like their sales methods, and I would not recommend them.

Pacific Homeworks were apparently driving through our neighborhood to solicit for roofing work by scouting the conditions of roofs. So they knocked on our door and asked if they could send someone by to provide us with an estimate. My wife said this was fine and Jeremy showed up on time a few days later. He asked to go up in our attic, and then looked up from his ladder through the hatchway to see if there were signs of leaks. After this he and I walked around up on the roof itself. Our ridgecap is badly in need of replacement as other roofers have told us. He and I discussed the different ways and products that this could be approached with. Then he said that we probably only had another year or two on our primary roof. After we came down, I asked him for an estimate for the ridgecap replacement. His response was that I should consider replacing the whole roof. I told him that we didn't want to spend the money for the whole roof at this point. He said that they had payment plans. He asked if my wife was around and then said that "Regularly we sit down with the client and educate them about the project and our company." I said that we were pretty busy and expected to just get an estimate for the ridge cap. He said that he would need to make measurements and other evaluations before he could provide an estimate, then again asked if he could sit down with my wife and I inside to discuss the project with us. So I went and got my wife, asking him to wait on our front porch. He seemed perturbed that we didn't invite him in but proceeded to tell us how long they had been in business and how they were bonded and insured, unlike many other roofers, "and did we know that if they (these other roofers) were injured on our property that they could sue" us. At this point, having spent almost 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon at 4:30 with him I said that we needed to get dinner started for our kids. He asked if we were going out to dinner and again suggested that he could sit down with us while we started it! I was irritated at this point, as was my wife. I simply told him that if he wanted to take measurements on the roof for the ridgecap we would be interested in this estimate and that he was free to go back up on the roof to do this. My wife and kids went inside. Jeremy packed up his ladder without taking measurements and drove off. I felt as though our politeness was imposed upon - for both time and entrance to our home. This was their company's solicitation of us (we never called them) and then we felt like we were the subject of a hard sales pitch for a complete roof replacement (that he had admitted we probably didn't need for a year or two). I find it inappropriate that they solicited us from the street and then practically insisted on entering our home. And yet he himself admitted that he was not ready to give us the estimate even if we did let him in. It crossed my mind that the point of entering our home could be to evaluate the amount we could afford to spend, but whatever the reason I don't think he should have pushed for entrance to our home. Honestly Jeremy was generally polite, but it seemed that he had a company mandated sales pitch he had to follow. There's no way to tell why their company behaved this way, but we won't be using them and have unpleasant memories of the interaction. By the way, we have had two other estimates provided on the ridgecap previously. These roofers showed up, measured, knocked on the door and handed an estimate and asked for the job. This is respectful, appropriate and good business practice.
Description of Work: Pacific Homeworks did not begin a job, in fact they did not even provide an estimate. But we were quite displeased with their interaction with us.

We spent close to $18000 for their services. They got the job done pretty quickly. They had enough people to get the job done. Then they came out and did what they said they would do. They also took care of the questions we had. They were in the neighborhood asking people if they needed work done. It happened when we needed it done. The only complaint my wife and I had was that they made appointments, but it seemed like they overbooked. So, they were late for the appointments. However, we understood that, but they didn’t always call right away to inform us that they were going to be late. They seemed to be running behind a lot. When the guy had to come out to do the work, they were here when they said they would be here. It was a little annoying and we thought the job was done. They kept checking in to see how it was, which was fine. I spent all the money on the roof and I didn’t have any more money to have the house painted or windows replaced. They were trying to do more work. I would probably use their services again.
Description of Work: Pacific HomeWorks Inc. did the roofing for us in the beginning of July. They stripped off three layers of roofing, repaired under laminate that was bad and put a new roof on it.

Did not buy from this company and will get multiple estimates BEFORE deciding. Pleas edo the same on any large purchases
Description of Work: In home est for 9 window replacements. Dble hung most are 3'x3' low e366 dual pane/argon. They sent a trainee with another salesman to my home. The trainee did most of the sales pitch and it was like watching a bad 3 stooges flick. Aside from the bad grammar and broken english, he could not even explain the basic concept of heat transfer (from warmer to colder; see 3rd law of thermodynamics). Seems like minor points, but when your salesmen are the first impression your customer has on an $ 18,000.00 estimate (yes, you heard right, $ 2,000.00 per 3' x 3' window) their lack of professionalism transfer to you entire company. Oh and did I forget to mention the 'salesmanship 101' chapter on 'if you don't buy it today, the price goes up tomorrow". If you have a good product and profession service, you shouldn't be afraid to have customers look at other options, they will still choose you in the end.

From the beginning demolition started three days ahead of the scheduled start date. As each item was completed, each carpenter performed their job. In addition the main office woudl call us to make sure that the contractor/carpenter showed up onsite. If not they would call the contractor/carpenter. Each item performed well and complete. The work was excellent, especially the outside stucco. The paint color was amazing how they matched the color.
Description of Work: Kitchen cabinet were re-faced, over head lights installed, door was removed and closed off. That included new dry wall and outside stucco and paint. New sink and island range hood were installed.

They are very good. They also checked any type of damage to the roof and they repaired that. They replaced the wood on the roof before putting on the shingles. It was good quality work.

This company's representative used high pressure tactics by giving its lowest of three bid prices for signing the day of the salesman's visit to us, a higher bid for signing during the month of his visit to us, and its highest bid for signing within one year of his visit. Another company, highly rated on Angie's List gave us a bid that was slightly over 1/3 of the lowest bid provided by Pacific Homeworks for signing the same day. Because the company approached us, and because of the high pressure tactic described above, and because of the high bid given by its salesman, I would never hire the company.
Description of Work: The company had its salespeople canvass our neighborhood and one of them came to our door to solicit our business. Their salesman took 2.5 hours of our time and gave us a handwritten bid on a 30-year roof and a five-year labor warranty. His bid was handwritten on the back of his business card for $38,992 if we would accept within a year, $35,093 if we accept during this month (April, 2009), or $29,245 if we would have signed up the day the salesman was here. The multiple pricing tiers are a high pressure tactic. I told him that we would have to get other bids before making a decision. He then offered an additional (unspecified) discount for allowing his company to give other prospective buyers our address so that they might drive by and see our new roof, but only if we would sign that day. Again, I declined to sign. As the salesman was leaving, I told him that I hadn't been able to find his company on Angie's List. He said that had never heard of Angie's List and he asked for its URL (website address). I gave it to him. The next day, someone else from the company called to tell me that the salesman quoted a price that was higher than it should have been. He said that the company's owners wanted to have someone come out again to give us a lower bid. I told him that we were getting bids from other companies and that I would call him after I got some more bids. He then called me again on 4/14/09. I told him that I would not have all the bids that I'm requesting until 4/17/09. He asked if he could have someone come out to talk with us about the lower bid on 4/18/09. I told him that we did not want any further visits from his company, but that he could fax the lower priced bid to me. I was about to offer our fax number to him when he said, 'I will pass that onto the owners' and he hung up on me. We then requested and got a bid yesterday from another company listed on Angie's List with high scores, Brea Roofing. Their representative, Justin Shirley, gave us a professionally prepared and printed bid that is good for ten days. For a 40-year roof and a ten-year workmanship warranty, the bid was $10,174, a tremendously lower amount than any of Pacific Homeworks original three bids. I will still get another bid(s) from at least one of the companies with high ratings on Angie's List.
