It didn't go well overall. Service man arrived on time - I'll give him points for that. However when it came to diagnosing my problem, things got a little sketchy. He told us about two ways to detect leaks, but didn't do either of them. One technique involved not using the A/C for two days, so obviously that was out of the question. He told us that Goodman A/Cs were known to have leak issues. I did some research, and he was right. However the known leak issues (which are the subject of numerous class action suits) are in the EVAPORATOR coil. He wanted to replace the CONDENSER coil. The factory would cover the part, but Timo's wanted to charge us a whopping $1600 labor. We told him to recharge the system and leave it at that, which he did. So I have no confidence that (1) the recommended repair would have fixed the problem or that (2) the quoted price was competitive. I will call someone else next time.
Description of Work: Called Timo's because A/C was not cooling. Attempted diagnosis - did not go well. Recharged system with freon.

Response from Timo's Air Conditioning and Heating Inc
(member name removed), a sincere thank you for allowing us into your home, and to work on your system. I'm sorry that we were not able to satisfy your needs, however, please allow me a second to explain what was entailed in the option to find the leak. There is only one absolute way to identify a leak in an HVAC system. That is to perform an isolation test. An isolation test consists of separating the condenser, coil, and line-set. The first step is to recover any residual freon and store it in a separate tank. We then cut the freon lines at the coil and condenser and braze them shut. Each component is then pressurized with nitrogen (the suction copper line, the liquid copper line, the evap coil, and the condensing coil). Industry code states we must allow the system to sit for 48 hours. After the 48 hours has passed we come back and check where the pressure was lost. - I know this was an inconvenient option for you, however, it's the only 100% positive way to identify the leak. I understand you went online and read that Goodman's evap coil's are know to leak, however, that doesn't dismiss the opinion of our tech, who holds a certification by the North American Technicians Excellence. The cost to replace a condensing coil is very labor intensive and subsequently expensive. Also, included in that cost was a full charge of refrigerant, as well as copper fittings, materials, line-set evacuation/nitrogen purge, silfos, etc. It's so much more than just labor. When Goodman says they will warranty the coil - that's all their including. Not the materials, labor, or refrigerant. To sum up my reply, the recommendation of our technicians was to perform an isolation test. We regret that you refused this service because It would have identified the problem without any ambiguity. Thank you so much for the business and my apologies, again, for failing to live up to your expectations. - Joe Timo

These guys are AWESOME! I got 4 bids, and they were the 2nd highest but seemingly (to me at least) the most honest. The Angie's List reviews are what really sold me in the end, all things being equal, as so many people were happy and said they'd use them again. That's good enough for me. The workers were punctual, clean and worked fast and efficiently. There were no surprise or "gotcha" charges during the install, so this told me the initial evaluation was accurate and thorough. This was right before 115 degree weather and the system cooled the house beautifully, and efficiently, throughout the Palm Springs summer, including the hottest days. Lastly, the building inspector signing off on the remodel was pleased with their work, and commented about how professional and first-rate it was. What else do you need?

Arrived home to 110 degrees in July with a broken A/C. Called Timo's who came out at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening after already leaving the office. They didn't know me before. Replaced the whole unit 2 days later after fixing the thermostat to keep us cool until the unit came in (we knew the heat wasn't working right). Efficient, friendly, reasonable prices. Best of all contractors!

Marcus the repairman called to see if he could come earlier than planned, which worked out even better for me. He arrived in minutes and listened carefully to my needs. I had two units that had not been serviced since I purchased and remodeled the house 3 years ago. He examined each unit and made precise recommendations for maintenance including tightening a few loose valves and adding freon to both units that had been depleted from 3 plus years of use. He did not recommend anything that was not immediately needed and even gave me an idea of when further service would be needed on the compressors, which was not for another 5 years. I felt he was honest and transparent. He went over the invoice in great detail making sure I understood the costs. I would highly recommend Timo's and Marcus to anyone.

Timo's was great! Joe, Joey and Mike were wonderful to work with. Our AC unit died and it turned out to be a commercial 6 TON unit which was not in stock. I ordered the Trane XL16i Air Conditioner Complete System product on Friday, August 30th, for installation starting at 9 am on Tuesday September 3rd. My Timos salesman phoned at 9:25 am Tuesday morning and cancelled the installation appointment. He said ordered equipment had failed to arrive. Made another appointment for 9:00 am on Wednesday (next day). By 10:00 am Timos had failed to arrive and I phoned them and left a voice mail message. Joe returned my call and advised truck was being loaded. They arrived at 10:30 am. Informed me the job would require less than 4 hours. Since I had an afternoon commitment I arranged for Timos two installers to work in my absence and lock the premises whey they departed. I left during the noon hour. Later that afternoon I returned home around 4:00 pm. 1. Discovered blower motor would not shut off! 2. The two replacement floor vent covers had been improperly installed over baseboard moulding. 3. One of two new floor vent air intake filters had not been installed. 4. A new Trane programmable thermostat had not been installed (to replace my Honeywell unit). 5. Found Owner instruction envelope and paper contents discolored and badly wrinkled (obviously due to exposure to outside weather and sunlight over an undetermined period of time). 6. Outside compressor unit manufacture date was 2010. Its "WeatherGuard II Top" did not appear new and showed signs of weathering. Timos salesman phoned me at 5:30 pm to confirm everything was okay. I provided him with the above details in response to his inquiry. He arranged for a next day 9:30 am Thursday appointment for Timos' representatives to inspect the installation and take corrective actions. (The new motor blower remained continuously on throughout the night and the loud sounds it made kept me awake). The Timos salesman along with his supervisor, Joe - son of the owner, arrived at 9:30 am. Joe described my concerns as "nitpicks". I responded that failure to correctly install and test the blower motor controls and that leaving one air intake vent without the required air filter was more than sloppy, it amounted to incompetence! Timos corrected all the problems I reported before they left on Thursday. They took my signature on a payment authorization invoice form and promised to email me a copy. That didn't happen! I phoned at 5:00 pm on Friday and requested that my copy be sent - and that was done. It was my last contact with Timos. I remain particularly concerned by Timos failure to replace my Honeywell thermostat with the Trane product until I insisted that it be done. The salesman's claim he thought I didn't want one doesn't agree with my recollection of our conversation (he had tried to interest me in an upgraded version with Wi-Fi capabilities). It's my view Timos would have made additional profits off the "complete system" transaction had they been able to withhold installing the expensive new thermostat. Integrity is one of the thoughts I have about their actions in this regard. I met the owner of Timos and found him to be a gentleman and apparently devoid of the combative attitude of his son. However, I made clear to him my lack of confidence in his family company, that I would not be using them again, and that I would also rate them "D" for their performance. I also declined their offer of two years of free maintenance service. In summary, I am very disappointed by my Timos experience. My product order was made in good faith after reading other reviews on Agnie's List. I didn't haggle about the price or make unusual demands. I simply placed my trust in Timos and assumed they would treat me as a valued customer deserving of the very best service. That was not the case. When Timos failed to keep the second appointment on time and I spoke with Joe, the owner's son, his tone was combative and he assured me I would be proud of my system and their service. That wasn't the case and to then describe my concerns as "nit picks" almost had me showing him out my front door. It's more than safe for others to conclude I was not a happy camper. So, how do I rate Timos? If I give them a C or anything above it implies some degree of satisfaction and that's clearly not the case. On the other hand, my expensive new system does work (it's been over a week since it was installed). Whether portions of Timos performance should be described as simply sloppy or incompetent is a judgement call. I lean towards incompetent on the grounds someone should have tested the system and components before leaving my premises on installation day. Timos doesn't deserve an "F" but in my book a grade of "D" is definitely one that's appropriate. ===================================================================================== This September 30th update is being provided after having read the response from Timo's Air Conditioning. I stand by my review 100% and view the vendor's response as misleading and lacking in both accuracy and truthfulness. It was obviously written by someone who was not present during the installation nor a party to the discussions. And yet that person would have us believe he or she was present during all the interactions that occurred. While neither party can fairly claim to be unbiased, my report was based on my notes of personal experience. That clearly was not the case with respect to the absent third-party individual who prepared Timo's reply. I could refute the Timo's reply point-by-point but they would probably post another rejoinder. Instead I'll simply repeat that I stand by my review and totally reject the spin Timo's has placed on my report. Let close by noting the following: 1. I'm not in the habit of spending time and energy giving bad ratings to vendors. This transaction was one was one I felt clearly deserved to be documented. 2. I also reported my dissatisfaction to Trane manufacturing customer service. 3. I provided Timo's with a copy of my review but they failed to provide me with a copy of their response. A friend noticed it here on Angie's List and notified me. 4. I received nothing in the way of a written apology or explanation from Timo's.
Description of Work: Install a Trane XL16i Air Conditioner Complete System, as follows. Replace inside combination air conditioning/heating unit, replace two air intake floor vent covers with ones that hold air filters (no filter in actual unit), replace programmable thermostat, and replace outside compressor unit. Removed all replaced unit components from premises. (I retained my replaced Honeywell thermostat control unit).

Response from Timo's Air Conditioning and Heating Inc
Before I respond to (Member name removed) review I would like to offer a sincere thank you to all our Angie's List customers for reading this reply. Because of Angie's List, we have been fortunate enough to have met some amazing people - some who we can even call friends. The great thing about Angie's List is it offers a forum where customers can leave comments and business owners can reply. Normally, we wouldn't respond to a review in such detail, however, it's important for our clients and prospective clients to understand this encounter as it happened, from another perspective.-- Although we bent over backwards to accommodate (Member name removed) every request we were simply unable to do so. Before our install technicians arrived to (Member name removed)home, he actually said, on the phone with our Manager, "I don't care if you install a Cadillac in my closet, im not going to see it, that doesnt matter to me. All the matters is you're here when you say you will be." This very sentence foreshadowed that (Member name removed) dissatisfaction with our company was determined before we ever stepped foot in the door. He was rude to our installation crew, he was rude to our office staff, and our salesman - who genuinely tried to fulfill his every request. -- While we certainly want to believe, "The customer is always right," it's simply not a one-size-fits-all approach to doing business. A customer, who treats others with the same level of dignity they feel personally entitled to, is always right. We feel bullied by (Member name removed). And we felt threatened the entire time we were at his house. Within 30 seconds of stepping into (Member name removed) home at 9AM on 9/5/13 he looked at Joey (The one he calls combative) and said, "Just so you know.... you're getting a "D." Perhaps this is the reasoning for a defensive stance from the moment our encounter began. (Member name removed) made some outrageous claims; he called us incompetent and accused us of installing used equipment. Each and every time we tried to speak out and defend ourselves he interrupted our sentence and said "I don't want to hear it. That's not important now." -- I am going to briefly respond to some of the bulleted points (Member name removed) listed below. Please keep in my mind that each and every item on his list was addressed the very next morning at 9am. Not days later, but hours. Also, his claims of our work being "sloppy" are not just unjust, but bordering on slanderous. Thankfully, I took pictures before leaving his house. -- http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/BOND6_zps42e417b5.jpg http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/bond5_zpsabe0afaf.jpeg 1. The blower motor (fan) would not shut off and kept (Member name removed) "up all night."-- - Reason: A pinched low voltage wire running from the thermostat to the furnace. The green, fan wire, was touching the red, 24v wire. The reason this didnt happen on the old system is because the green wire wasn't connected to the furnace. We ran a new wire the very next morning, at no cost to (Member name removed), although this was outside the scope of a typical installation.-- 2. The two return grilles were improperly installed over the baseboards-- - I have attached pictures of the "improperly" installed grilles:-- http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/bond4_zps6b9ba035.jpeg http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/bond3_zpsa21876b9.jpeg 3. One of two new floor vent air intake filters had not been installed.-- - This is a blatant lie. I personally went to the home and saw both filters in the grilles. One of which was a washable filter. (Member name removed) said "That's not a filter." We explained that it was and due to the unusual size of the grille (due to the space we were given) it is difficult to find a filter that's 10 x 30 in size.-- 4. A new Trane programmable thermostat had not been installed (to replace my Honeywell unit).-- - This is a very important complaint for us. (Member name removed) was asked if he wanted a new thermostat because his existing thermostat (which was new) is identical to the one that comes with the new system. Identical meaning same exact thermostat - same exact model. He said NO, there was no need to replace the thermostat with the same model, which was a Honeywell Pro 6000. After the install technicians left (Member name removed) complained that he was expecting a thermostat that said "Trane" on it. Now, Trane doesn't manufacturer all of their thermostats. On many, they simply embroider their logo on the Honeywell thermostat. (Member name removed) was asking for the same thermostat he had, but one that said "Trane" on it. Due to the confusion we apologized and said we could install the same thermostat (with Trane inscribed) the next morning.-- The next morning, in hopes of winning over a dissatisfied client, we - at our own choosing - decided to upgrade (Member name removed) to a touchscreen Honeywell Pro 8000 (one with a Trane logo). This was NOT included in the proposal. This is not something he paid for. This was installed because we wanted him to have something he wasn't expecting. A pleasant surprise for once. (Member name removed) used this against us and felt we tried to get over on him, increase our profits, and stiff him out of the thermostat. The thermostat he was never charged for in the first place.-- http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/bond2_zps2f96e6c8.jpeg 5. Found Owner instruction envelope and paper contents discolored and badly wrinkled (obviously due to exposure to outside weather and sunlight over an undetermined period of time).-- - We replaced the installation guide and warranty paperwork the next morning. It was discolored and wrinkled.-- 6. Outside compressor unit manufacture date was 2010. Its "WeatherGuard II Top" did not appear new and showed signs of weathering.-- - The outside condenser was manufactured in 2010. This is how it was sent to us from Trane's warehouse. The unit was brand new, in box. The top was faded from the sun, and we sympathized with (Member name removed). We brought a replacement lid the very next morning and the unit looked absolutely perfect. A photo is below:-- http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/af68/timosair/bond1_zps2763299b.jpeg Also, (Member name removed), your invoice wasn't emailed to you because it wasn't in our system yet. There were approximately 20 invoices ahead of yours that needed to be converted from a hand written document to a data file. They were being typed into our system in the order in which they were received. Even still, after you called complaining, yet again, we placed all other invoices aside, typed yours, and email it within minutes.-- To summarize: This was an experience that both parties wish could have been avoided. While we certainly appreciate the business, we're glad this transaction is behind us.-- Thanks to all,-- Timo's Air--

Why would you go anywhere else? ON TIME, ON BUDGET, PERFECT INSTALLATION. Liitle Joey (no offense by little, Joey) came out to write me an estimate. He showed up as scheduled. Job was scheduled about a week and a half later for installation. They showed up a couple of hours early and did a beautiful installation that will fit completely with a garage that is being finished to the same level as the inside of my home. How wonderful to have a contractor who does what they say they will. They have all of my future business. Found these guys on Angie's List and I am a 100% happy camper.

On time, cordial, efficient, cleaned and checked AC unit, and added coolant. No surprises. No unnecessary work pitched for more money. Even moved my car so it wouldn't get splashed when he cleaned unit. Very professional in every way. Price was as quoted--just a tad bit higher than some competitors advertise who offer low ball quotes to get in the door to sell additional parts/products. None of that with Timo. Honesty was greatly appreciated. Will definitely use them again.

I am in the middle of dealing with the aftermath of a house flood that has me living in partially demolished rooms, things packed in boxes, furniture stacked everywhere. Then my AC goes out, just as we are having record high temperatures in the Coachella Valley. My appointment was for Thursday between 1 and 2 p.m and Joey arrived about 1:20. I explained that the air from the vents was less cold than usual (uncool) and that after I had run it for about 5 hours, the interior temp had not changed. He checked everything including the vents. The system was working fine, the compressor was doing what it was supposed to, Freon was fine, etc. "It's textbook", he said. He looked under the house, couldn't see anything. After about 15 minutes of double checking everything, he said he needed to go under the house. (Eeew. Good thing he's slender and fit.) He found that the main duct was disconnected; it appeared to be attached but once he got to it, it was floating about an inch away from where it was supposed to be tightly fitted. He connected it, tightened it and made sure it was secure. The vents registered an immediate drop in temp. Like a freon fix. The whole thing took less than an hour and Joey could not have been more qualified and respectful. He's born to his profession; after double checking everything, he understood it had to be something he had not checked and it meant going under the house. I was given the Angie's List 10 percent discount, too!!
Description of Work: The technician checked everything, twice, and it made no sense that the air coming from my vents was not really cold. The system was working fine, Freon was good, compressor good, etc. It took only a few minutes for him to decide it had to be something pertaining to the connections under the house. He found a disconnect in the ducts, fixed it, made sure it was stable and Voila! I had AC again!

A year ago we moved into a mid century condo built in 1964. While the AC functioned after a month when our first bill came to the tune of $500 we were shocked. We called the competition to service the unit. They informed us, it was not efficient and needed to be replaced. Using scare tactics to frighten me that the AC could go out any day, they told me a new unit would be $15k+, which we did not have. We did our best to conserve over the summer and save money. When the time came that we were ready to replace the AC we turned to Timo's. After reading numerous great reviews of Angie's List, they were our only call. We liked that they were a family run business and the owner's son Joey came out to give us a quote. He laid out three options for us, explaining each in terms we could easily understand. Not only were their prices better than the competition, Joey was honest with us, letting us know we would be happy with any of the three units he suggested. He didn't use scare tactics, or pressure us to make a decision on the spot. He was professional, kind and very knowledgeable. We felt well informed of our options, and Joey gave us his cell phone number in case he had any questions. The next day we decided to go with their top of the line Trane XL20i. With the stellar warranty, and clear energy saving capabilities, we knew it was the long term right choice. Joey and his team were able to come less than a week later and install our new system. Everyone was friendly, professional, and even got the job done more quickly than we had expected. They made sure we knew how to program and use our new unit and take full advantage of its features before they left. We could not be happier with the new unit and choosing Timo's! Our projected bill this month is $87 compared to over $500 this time last year! I enthusiastically recommend Timo's to anyone for service, repairs and especially new system installation.
Description of Work: We had a new condenser, furnace, hot water heater and allergy air filtration system installed. The old system was also removed.

Fantastic. Cannot say enough good things about this company. I just switched from another company after their rep came out, spent two minutes looking at the unit (which is rooftop) but he was on his cell phone the whole time as I looked up. Marcus from Timo's went up on the roof, found condenser coils were very dirty and hosed them down. Blew out the dirt from the condensate and electrical compartments. Found the amp draw was high and checked and found loose wire connections. Found the DIP switches were never set in the five years the previous company had both installed and serviced the unit, etc. Gave some very valuable advice. I understand why Angie's List customers rate Timo's so highly. They deserve every accolade they get.
Description of Work: Enrolled in a service contract, had a spring checkup done.

Great experience with Timo. I have hired several other heating and air conditioning companies in the desert and by far Timo has been the most professional. I would never call anyone else.
Description of Work: Had a Nest thermostat installed and he fixed an issue with the heat pump that a previous company left without fixing.
