Had me send photo of shower valve so that he could arrive at my home with correct replacement parts. That saved us both time and trouble. Showed up on time, was very competent and quick to do an excellent, clean repair. Offered me his Angie's list discount on top of his already fair and reasonable price. No issues with the repair...I'd absolutely recommend and use Wildwood again.

Awesome. Was able to fix problem for way less than others quoted, mainly because he knew you could do it a much easier way without soldering.

Richard completed his work in a timely and professional manner. I didn't mention he worked on a Sunday and charged such a reasonable charge I mentioned if he made a mistake and charged me too little.
Description of Work: Richard replaced a leak in my copper pipe in the ceiling. It was difficult to access being in the ceiling and squeezing through a hole that was cut out. The copper pipe was behind a joist, which he had to work over.

Richard did an excellent job. The job was done over three separate days for a total of 6 hours. I have used Richard in the past on a number of jobs and his work is meticulous and of very high quality. His prices are not the lowest in town, but are competitive with the what you would expect of a plumber who does quality work. I have always found him to be prompt, professional and extremely honest. I would highly recommend.

Richard was very responsive, professional, easy to work with, and really knows his business. He easily repaired plumbing problems that no other plumbers were able to successfully fix. We are very happy to finally have a plumber we can trust!
Description of Work: Richard called back within 30 minutes of our call on a Sunday, and offered to come the same day. We had a toilet -- that had been repaired by several other "plumbers" and continued to run and waste water -- that he repaired perfectly. He also found the cause of restricted water in our master bathroom sink, which several other plumbers were not able to figure out.

He was polite and professional. It was easy to communicate with him, he returned my text messages promptly. The cost included the labor and parts, and I found it very reasonable. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: I contacted Richard because I needed help to hook up the gas grill to an outside gas pipe. I had arranged his service without having the grill, as we were waiting for it to be delivered. He was working around my schedule (and Home Depot's delivery time).

I?m writing this evaluation because I do not want this experience to happen to another retiree like myself. What started out as a repair to a toilet leak in our powder room turned into a major home expense. I chose this plumber because of the overall high ratings that he had on Angie?s List. I learned later that these ratings do not accurately describe the operation of this business, and that I should have paid more attention to some of the reviews. When I phoned him requesting help with the leak, Richard asked if I had considered replacing the toilet instead of fixing the leak. He sent me an email with a link to Home Depot showing three low-flush toilets that he recommended. He assured me that he would get better pricing from another source. All 3 qualified for rebates. I asked about the labor, and he said he charges $110 an hour, and when I asked about the length of time to replace a toilet he mentioned an hour or more because each job is different. Before I gave Richard my final decision, I checked the Home Depot web site for these toilets, verified the listed pricing, and I read the reviews of each. The one I finally chose (the cheapest one) had unanimous 5-star evaluations for ?Ease Of Installment.? All of this information was factored in to my choice to replace the toilet instead of fixing the leak. I called Richard back and requested that he go ahead with the toilet replacement. He ordered it, and after a week he came by to install it. When I asked him to enter through the garage, instead he came in my front door with his boots still on and went to the downstairs bathroom. I asked Richard to salvage the old toilet seat because I had just purchased it and I wanted to use it in the upstairs bathroom. After a brief examination of the toilet to be replaced he started to work. I told him that if he needed anything that I would be in the next room. After about an hour?s work, Richard poked his head through the doorway and showed me a bag full of roots that he said was growing through our concrete slab and into the toilet base (causing the leak). He then pointed out two washing machine valves that he noticed in the laundry room and said that he could replace those while he was here (for an additional ½ hour?s work with a nominal charge for the valves.) I agreed. Richard spent 4 hours working on this ?project.? When he was done, Richard gave me the old toilet seat that he removed, which he had placed in the box of the new toilet seat that he had just installed. The next day when I opened that box I discovered that the seat had been badly scratched on both the lid and the seat. During the installation, Richard did not stop to mention that it was going to take him longer to complete it, so I had no warning when he was done when I asked him, ?About how much will this be?? I was astonished when he answered $700, and told him so. He replied by telling me that he would not charge me for the time he spent picking up the toilet. He said he would email me the invoice when he got home. When I asked if he could be kind on the invoice, he replied that his price was his price, but he added that he would charge me his cost for the toilet. Then he instructed me to leave the check under the front door mat, and that he didn?t like to have to come back if it wasn?t there tomorrow. That evening I received an email with the invoice totaling $739.24. The total labor came to $396 (and that?s after the 10% Angie?s List membership and Senior discounts were deducted). On the invoice he itemized every replacement part and material needed for the job, including virtually every single nut, bolt, washer, screw, plumbers putty, plumbers tape. etc? He charged me for each and every one of them. In all of my life I?d never seen anything like it. When I took a closer look at the invoice I discovered that Richard charged me the full price for the toilet that was listed on the Home Depot web site. My experience with Richard indicated that he was not so dedicated to giving good customer service and fair pricing, as he was to living up to his last name.

Response from Wildwood Specialty Plumbing
First off, I want everybody who might be reading this review to understand that I take great pride in my work and customer service, but I also realize sometimes I can't live up to some customers expectations. I'm sorry this Angie's List member is unsatisfied with the cost and my service. Up front, I communicated with this member by phone about resetting the toilet, and when it was discovered that the original 30+ year old toilet was still in service, I recommended replacement rather than resetting the old toilet, especially given that there is an up to $100 rebate program. I e-mailed a link regarding the rebate program, and offered three versions of a very popular model of Toto toilet - elongated bowl in comfort height; elongated bowl in standard height; and round bowl in standard height. After inquiring whether there is a counter extension over the toilet (there is) it was determined that only a standard height toilet would work, and the member opted for a round bowl toilet. Links were provided to view the toilets online at the Home Depot website - the prices were, of course, shown on the website, and I will sell the toilet for what anyone could buy them for at Home Depot - but I do not buy them there - I prefer to give my business to a more local concern, but I can still sell the toilets at the Home Depot price. The member is confused somehow that I could actually sell the toilets for less than the Home Depot price - in fact, I challenge anyone to call around locally and see how the prices compare - you won't find a lower price than Home Depot. There was no mention of an hour for installation - I tell people I've had it take 1-1/2 hours and I've had it take over 3 hours - it all depends on what needs to happen - and much of that can't be determined until the toilet is removed, because much is hidden underneath the bowl. After cutting off the tank-to-bowl bolts to remove the tank, the bowl was pulled, and the root problem was discovered, as was the cheesy flange repair job that the tile setter likely did when the toilet was pulled to set the floor tile and then was reset after tiling and grouting. The flange repair had failed, water was leaking underneath when the toilet was flushed, and, being on a concrete slab, the water will find it's way down beneath the slab in the space between the pipe and the slab - and roots will find it - that's what they do! The roots do not cause the leak - it's the poor technique of the previous installation that led to the leak, and the roots then find the leaking water. So, the toilet flange was replaced, the toilet's water supply valve was replaced, the mess was cleaned up and the new toilet was installed. In all the toilet installations that I've done, I don't think I've ever reinstalled the old seat. I had ready to install the new Toto soft-close seat, but checked with the member if they would actually want to reuse the old seat - just in case - the saving of the old seat was never mentioned by the member until that time, which was not until near the end of the installation, just prior to caulking the toilet to the floor; the old seat was still on the old bowl in the garage. Whether I or the owner scratched the old seat, I don't know. And yes, I could not help but notice the 30+ year old washing machine valves right across from the powder room where I was working - they had much evidence of leakage and one could not be turned - so, after getting the okay, they were replaced with quality 1/4-turn valves. Plumbing work takes what it takes - it's often unpredictable; between when I showed up and when I packed up, yes, over four hours had elapsed - it could of taken much less, but there were hidden problems that had to be addressed. 8 years in business, and until now, I've never had a customer complain about the detail in my invoicing - it takes time to do, but it's accurate and (most) people appreciate it. I endeavor to provide top-notch service always, I hope that whomever might be reading this review, and my reply to it, will not be discouraged from allowing me to help with their plumbing needs. If you read more of the reviews on me, Wildwood Specialty Plumbing, you will understand how passionate I am about my work and serving my customers to the best of my abilities. Our plumber is the kindest, most courteous, professional, highly skilled, honest, caring, and highly efficient. We have been asking Wildwood Specialty Plumbing to support all of our plumbing disasters for over five (5) years, and have NEVER been disappointed, angry, or dissatisfied. He is always very prompt and completes his repairs quickly. Our very first request was for an upstairs shower leak that started dripping into the downstairs powder room. We contacted Wildwood Specialty Plumbing from Angies List. He was there on time, evaluated the situation within 15 minutes, and set out to do the repairs immediately after providing us with a very favorable quote. It's been five years since that repair work was completed and the shower is still working great. When you find a great plumber you keep him. We would highly recommend Wildwood Specialty Plumbing to anyone who needs a great plumber.

Richard was prompt in responding and did a high quality job on a complicated faucet installation. We had a problem with the faucets we ordered and he was quick to identify the issue. Beyond doing a great job for a reasonable price, he was attentive to keeping the work area clean and cleaning up before leaving. We would happily have him come back in the future for other projects!!

Diagnosed the problem on the same day I contacted him, and arrived the following day to complete the installation of a new water heater. Richard is clearly a professional at what he does. He arrived on time, and completed the job under not such ideal conditions (in my garage during a socal heat wave). He left my garage cleaner than he found it, and upgraded the connections (gas/water valve) to meet modern standards. He is also a friendly and courteous person, and I was extremely satisfied with the work performed. I would highly recommend him for any of your plumbing jobs in Thousand Oaks and the Conejo valley.

I would NEVER use anybody but Richard. I have been using him for many years and he was referred to me. This work was done at my mother's condominium and I'm the one who called him. He's the best plumber with the most amazing prices. the first time I used him, I thought he'd missed a zero in the total. I can't find enough superlatives for Richard but to say he's probably one of the main reasons I'll never move out of the area. He's bailed us out (no pun intended) on way more than one occasion!
