+ -1 moreWe decided to have three sun tunnels installed to lighten up the middle of our home, which did not have enough light. The first person we called for an estimate would not even come to our home and refused to do the job because it was too risky. The second contractor said he would do it but his estimate was high and he approached the job as if a were a big project. He was difficult to pin down, that is, finalize the details and get started. We lost confidence in him and did a search for another contractor. Good move? we found Jeff of C&J Skylights, an official installer of Velux skylights and sun tunnels. He was prompt in connecting with us, showed us ways we could save money, gave us what we judged to be a fair estimate, and he installed all three sun tunnels in one day! He made the job seem simple, which was probably because he installs these products for a living and knew what he was doing. We are happy campers and highly recommend him!

+ -1 moreThe service went well. They did an excellent job installing the new skylights. The shades are okay and do not totally close. I have not contacted them about the shades, however. Aside from that, I am very happy with the results. One person came out for the service. It was a bit difficult communicating at first because his wife did not respond to my emails right away. I ended up having to give them a call. He called to let me know when he would be able to come out to do the service. The guy who came to install the skylights was pleasant was pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: They came to change 2 skylights and added 2 shade to 2 other existing skylights.

+ -1 moreTwo men will maintain skylights. They were honest, did a fantastic job, able to come in earlier than they have said. I have to get a painting schedule and he was the only person who bothered to go into their room and looked at the skylights into the house before giving me a quote and noticed the damage that I had around the skylights. They did a beautiful and excellent job. They were the most expensive.
Description of Work: C & J Skylights installed 2 skylights and repaired it. They framed everything and had to put drywall and paint in.

He provided advice and experience to help me with my decision. He also answered all my questions with patience. The installation was quick and the finished project looks great! I have one more skylight that I will need to replace and I'm sure I will be calling C&J when that time comes. Thanks to Angie's List for pointing me in the right direction!

+ -1 moreJeff Smith was OUTSTANDING to work with at every step of the way. He called me back within hours of my first call for a quote. He came out the next day to give me a quote. His quote was almost HALF of the second quote that I received. Because of the size of my skylights they had to be custom made so he quoted two weeks for manufacturing and installation, it turned out to be one week. Jeff and one other person came on time and installed the two large skylights in under three hours. They covered everything in the rooms so everything stayed clean. At first we were disappointed that we couldn't have remotes to open and close the skylights because they were so large, but they are very easy to open and close manually. This is no problem at all. The difference it has made with heat reduction in our upstairs master bedroom is remarkable, we wish we had done this years ago! Jeff is without question the best person who has ever worked on our house. Everything he said he would do he did, on time at a reasonable price and he's a very nice person. Thanks Jeff, you're the best.

The new skylights are large custom size that manually open, have bronze aluminum frames with bug screens by solar industries, glazed with 1" insulated glass that is 1/4" tempered solar cooled Azurelight with 1/2" bronze spacer over clear safety laminate.

+ -1 moreJeff is really pleasant to work with, and extremely knowledgeable with skylight, roofing, and roofing structural. My situation is not a standard skylight installation. I 1st have to remove the existing fireplace and depending on the existing opening, install an appropriate skylight over it. I called Jeff and explained my job descriptions and he was able to provide great info over the phone. I later scheduled him to stop by to review the project in detail. He was punctual and texted before stopping by. Again he provided great info which helped me with my fireplace removal. Later that day he sent me the estimate. I shopped around, talk to many contractors, but Jeff just stands out compared with the rest. He gave me confidence that he can do the job, guarantee his work, high quality skylight, and the price is very reasonable. I decided to have him do the job. The entire process was very smooth. I was in the loop the whole time. Guess what? the entire job came below the original estimate and Jeff actually charged me less than what was estimated. How many contractor out there will do that!? Overall, I am extremely happy with the process. I found Jeff in Angielist and so glad I did.

JEFF SMITH, OWNER/CONTRACTOR CAME TO MY HOME, MEASURED FOR MY SKYLIGHT, GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE, AND EXPLAINED THAT HE WOULD ORDER A REPLACEMENT WHICH WAS A SPECIAL ORDER SINCE IT WAS ALMOST 7FT LONG. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIS PROFESSIONALISM. WHEN HE CALLED TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS HE CAME ON THAT DATE. WHEN THE SKYLIGHT CAME IN HE PHONED ME AND SET THE DATE FOR INSTALLATION. EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY. I LIKED THE FACT HE DID ALL HIS OWN WORK FROM START TO FINISH. I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE HIM AGAIN.

+ -1 more. Jeff is truly as honest and proficient a contractor and craftsman as you could possibly find. His quote for work was right on the money, equal or less than the three other quotes I received. His promise to me to do the work personally was done exactly as agreed. Jeff is one of the last of the great contractors who you can sincerely trust to do the job correctly. Jeff was on time each day, worked thru the heat of the day to finish on the time table he quoted, yet was not rushing the job so he could complete the work in outstanding fashion, including full site clean up, skylight window cleaning, and instruction on warranty issues and how to operate and care for the skylights. I would recommend C&J Skylights to anyone, anytime; you cannot go wrong hiring Jeff and C&J Skylights, period!

+ -1 moreVery good experience. Our skylights were not a standard size (37" vs. standard 34"), requiring C&J to have them custom made. As expected, the custom units were more expensive than the standard ones and took a little longer to manufacture. However, once they were delivered the installer replaced all six skylights in under 4 hours. All work was exterior. There was no interior clean-up required. The whole process from estimate to completion was very painless. The new skylights perform very well - more light and less heat transferred through the glass. I would definitely recommend C&J.

Description of Work: I purchased a home in January 2011 and it was clear that the 4 skylights in the home had been leaking for some time due to drywall damage. I interviewed many companies (roofers and skylight companies alike). I got many "rationales" why the leaks existed and over time it was evident that the skylights were the culprit. Out of the 4 skylight companies I interviewed, Jeff at C&J was the only one that knew right from looking at pictures I sent him what the problem was. All the other companies just wanted to sell me new skylights for upwards of $4,000. None of them cared to fix the problem. Heck, why do that when they can make all the money on new skylights?! Back to Jeff at C&J....he mentioned on the telephone (again simply from pictures that I sent him) that there should be a visible gasket showing. A week or so later, at the agreed upon meeting time, Jeff showed up and looked at them in person and showed me the gasket that he was talking about. So I contracted with him, and he came back, again on time and on the date we agreed. Basically there is a rubber piece (called a gasket) and it should be hanging over the flashing of the roof (the metal thing around the skylight). The installer of the skylight (some 8 years ago) neglected to put the gasket over the flashing because it didn't fit. This caused water to get into the skylight system and leak into the house when it rained. Jeff cut the flashing down to ensure that the gasket properly fit and also sealed up the rest of the areas of the skylights so that they would be water tight for years to come. When Jeff came off the roof on one occasion he had a smile on his face and showed me the flashing piece he had to trim down to get the gasket to fit. On the back of the flashing piece it said right on it in LARGE BOLD that gasket needed to go over the flashing to be water tight. (Good thing the previous contractor cared enough to neglect that nugget of informtation when installing them!) Bottom line, Jeff at C&W actually was a contractor that cared about others and wasn't out to just rip people off. I highly recommend him to others. Thanks Jeff!!!

+ -1 moreThe glass in the skylight in our master bathroom shattered and needed to be replaced. I contacted several companies to come out and give an estimate. Jeff Smith, the owner of C&J came out, climbed on the roof measured the glass and told me he would have a quote to me on the following Monday. He called later that day with a question and I received his estimate over the weekend. Jeff is very knowledgeable, friendly, professional and his prices very fair. He knows his business. In this particular case I did not go with C&J (there were other considerations) but would definitely consider using them in the future.
