These are the guys you want to do your hardwood floors! The owner Beau came out and talked with us for over an hour on the estimate. You can tell he has hardwood floors in his blood. Both his older sons work with him in the business. I love family owned business where people actually take pride in their work. We went with the Angie List #1 rated company. You have to be good to be the #1 rated on Angie?s List. We went to visit the store and they explained the new type of wood flooring that doesn?t need to be sanded. We confirmed with our friend that remodels high end million dollar homes and she agreed the brand was the best in the market. We had the old fashion wood floors downstairs that when installed required sanding. The upstairs matches the downstairs floors. He said we don?t even have to move the beds or furniture upstairs. His team just moves the furniture to one side of the room and completes that area of floor and moves it back. We thought we?d have to remove everything from upstairs, but they re-arranged everything with no damages to anything. The guy who did the stairs was a specialist and took his time. He left before we could give him a $100 tip, since his work is that of an artist! I love people that take pride in their work! People are shocked when they come in and see the new stairs! We have a yellow lab and two boys 10 and 12 and love the floors and new stairs! Two thumbs up to Beau and his team!
Description of Work: They removed carpet in three bedrooms upstairs and in the hallways, bathroom and took carpet off the stairs and replaced with wood. ALL matched the colors downstairs and ZERO sanding!

I purchased a short sell home that needed a lot of fixing. I used several group of handyman for roofing. After that experience (long story), I went and subscribed to Angie's List to get some really professional to do the work. My advise: you save some money with handyman in the shortrun, but if you have to redo their bad work, it'll cost you just as much or more. The handyman wanted to do my hardwood floor and they gave me a quote. Lucky I wrote to Shawn and his quote was just the same. Their are a lot of choices out their for hardwood floor but after reading through all the reviews and getting a good quote (when compared to my handyman), I decided to have Shawn do the work. We setup a time and date. Shawn and two of his employees showed up and got straight to work. They worked hard and did a wonderful job. I am very happy with their work. Their were a few extra things that needed to be done but Shawn was pretty straight forward and never did I feel pressure to have the extra things done. Initially I wanted to have one coat of sealer followed by two coats of bona traffic (standard). I had a few gallons of bona traffic left but I did not want to put the third traffic HD on as I've read that the floor can look like a gym floor. However, Shawn reassured me that with the satin coat, that will not occur. I opted for the third coat and my floor looks good with three coat.
Description of Work: 2200 square feet of unfinished hardwood floor needed to be installed, sanded then three coats for a two story home (including stairs). This is for labor only. I purchased the hardwood (Santos Mahogany) as well as the three coats (bona drifast sealer followed by three coats of bona traffic hd satin).

Shawn and crew have really done an amazing job in terms of transforming my living room and kitchen floors. Very professional in every interaction, took additional effort and time in explaining the pros and cons of every decision, obtaining feedback from us after hours and helped us pick the right kind of wood and finish Shawn was on time at every appointment and kept us appraised, no surprises Quote was priced competitively, both in terms of service and raw material which was good quality Brazilian cherry. Delivered multiple finished samples to help us decide on the finish. All work completed according to schedule, and even returned back in timely fashion to finish transitions that were held up due to other projects. Having seen a lot of floors, we are very pleased with our floor and the overall experience. I would use Royal Oak again and highly recommend working with Shawn for quality flooring.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this company! From the Office Manager, the owner (who personally visited daily for inspection), to the installers. Their website says they leave all rooms livable at the end of each workday and it's the truth! In all, they did 5 bedrooms, and we slept in each of them DUST FREE every night. They finished in the time approximated, the price never changed from initial contract and my home is BEYOND beautiful. We now live in the home we envisioned when we purchased 4 years ago and it was certainly worth the wait. A little background to the story: we'd hired Home Depot to install flooring in the upper level of our home 2 years ago. After no less than 6 return visits for corrections, we'd all but given up. Beau insisted upon the removal and replacement of the door casing! used to separate tile to wood transition areas and the quarter-rounds used to hide uneven cuts FOR FREE!!! The job Home Depot did was THAT BAD! Dare i say that i actually missed the crew the first week after completion. They are a great family company using quality materials and seasoned professionals. Most have been with Royal Oak for 10-20 years. They'll certainly be our first call in our next home.
Description of Work: Removed carpet in lower level of home and installed hardwood (QUALITY hardwood, there is a difference) throughout. Also removed/replaced dated base boards upper and lower level.

My condo unit got flooded recently ruining my existing hardwood floor. So I needed to take the old ones out and install new ones. I called Royal Oak Hardwood Floor for an estimate after reading so many wonderful Angie's list reviews. What I found was their pricing is VERY competitive, more so with the Angie's list member coupon! More importantly they really care about their customers! I had a very tight schedule as I have a tenant moving in a week (Saturday) and my hardwood floor requires a lot of work, due to the broken, uneven concrete left behind after the mitigation guys took out my old floor with strong adhesives and sound proofing materials. I only have literally a little over a week to finish the work plus final clean-up. The self leveling concrete would take at least a day or two to dry and it's impossible to get the floor installation done on time if they start working on the concrete Monday. I gave them a very short notice due to overwhelming condo mitigation work and Royal Oak was on another project with other client that won't complete until Saturday. Guess what they did for me! They came on Sunday to do the concrete! I have never heard of any contractor willing to work on Sunday or even Saturday, not to mention without charging any weekend service fee! They came on Sunday to make it work out for me! Story doesn't end here. My HOA's soundproofing requirement is not straightforward at all. Instead of telling unit owner what sound proofing material to use, they only provide sound rating unit owners need to comply with. So Beau, Royal Oak Owner, and Laurie, his secretary, made multiple phone calls to their sales person to check the specifications of different sound proofing materials for me. And when we finally decided to use rubber, which is particularly hard to install, they actually worked EXTRA hours everyday to get the work complete early to allow me time to clean my unit before my tenant moves in! Also, Beau caught that there was an area where new molding was needed but I didn't inform him. He quickly changed his molding order to special order another one that would match identically to my existing ones. I don't know how much hassle I have caused them to get my new hardwood floor installed. But whenever I talked with Beau on the phone, he always said "Not a problem!" in a very cheerful tone, making me feel like he is really happy to do all this for me to make me happy. Last and probably people care most about, the hardwood floor is beautiful! It is very high quality product and the wood grains and colors look ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! Really thanks to Louis and James' top notch workmanship putting the rubber, wood floor and moldings together! The floor also feels so great on the feet! I really can't say enough thanks to Beau and the team he put together, for the beautiful work they have done, the extra miles they went and the excellent experience! Really thank you so much, Beau and team!

Beau came to give us an estimate. We already had hardwood floors in some parts of the house and wanted to add hardwood to other areas that had carpet. In spite of the fact that the existing hardwood flooring was already 8 years old, Beau and Laurie managed to find the exact match. During the project, the carpet was removed and the subfloor was secured with rows of screws to prevent creaking. The crew worked efficiently and tirelessly to make sure that any areas squeaking were tightened. The removal of the carpet meant that the new floors had to tie into the old floors. The installers were masters at lacing in the old wood with the new wood to the point that we (the owners) had a hard time identifying where the one stopped and the other started. Beau's crew were professional, friendly, meticulous and cleaned up thoroughly after every work day. They even replaced some boards that were not part of the new flooring sections and that had been dented by furniture. We recommend them highly and we'll definitely use them again in the future.

Royal oak in located in Socal, but Shawn works the Bay area. Shwan is very professional and does quality work in a timely fashion. There are well known sellers and installers of hardwood flooring in the area. Shawn's price was better and the quality of his work was equivalent. A lot of my remodel was done by a contractor. The floors I did the general contracting for, and I was glad I did because the workmanship was far superior to what I would have gotten if I let my contractor handle it.
Description of Work: Place hardwood floors in our remodeled home.
Beau (the owner of the company) came out, looked at the job, made suggestions (which we accepted) and prepared a detailed estimate. He was on time and clearly knew what he was talking about. We agreed to proceed with the job. The crew appeared on the agreed date at the appointed time. They carefully covered all of the furniture and two entrances to the living and dining rooms with plastic to protect from dust from the tile removal. We had very little dust in the other parts of the house. The work took five days. Each day the crew was on time and worked diligently through the day. At the end of each work day, the crew left with everything put away and cleaned up. All trash was removed daily. The quality of the work was excellent. The crew are true craftsmen who know their job. It was a pleasure to have them working on our home. We have been really impressed with the change the installation of the new flooring has made in our home. We would recommend Beau and his people to anyone who is looking to have a quality flooring installation.
Description of Work: Installed new hardwood floors in living room, stairs, dining room and office. The job included moving all the furniture (more work than it first appeared), removing old carpeting, demolishing tile, preparing the concrete slab, installing new baseboards and installing new flooring.

Ray is a very upfront person. You get the feeling that he is interviewing you as much as you are interviewing him for the job. Ray will not promise you something that he can not deliver. He is very specific when it comes to how you are cleaning your floors and how his resealing services will adhere based upon your cleaning methods. I did get the feeling that would stand behind his work 100%.. I would recommend Rays services for refinishing. The only downside is that he does not like to move furniture.. Pretty hard to redo your floors if someone does not move the furniture.. Fortunately for me Ray did help move some of the bigger pieces. Rays price may have been a little cheaper due tot he fact that he does not include moving the furniture. Ray worked to accommodate my schedule and was always professional and curious

These guys were great and I highly recommend working with them. We recieved three other offers and Beau seemed to be the most honest and arguably the nicest out of the bunch. He also gave us the best quote and it was the exact amount that we ended up paying. The job took three days and they finished ahead of schedule. His team was extremely detail oriented and there was little to no cleanup needed after the fact. We could not have been more pleased with our experience.

It went well for the amount of disruption involved in redoing most of the floors that we normally use in the house.they put the bed back together each night in the bedroom until that was finished.
Description of Work: We had them install oak strips in the office and tropical walnut engineered wood in the bedroom and hallway. After two weeks the oak flooring needed to be sanded and finished at which point they also refinished the oak in the living room. It all came out great and I know that if any problems crop up I can count on them to fix them

Jaymes arrived with another employee at 9:30am. He was able to save all of our molding, haul out the old floor, and install a new one by mid-afternoon. We're very satisfied with his work.
Description of Work: We had a water leak in a bathroom which caused damage to our engineered wooden floor in an adjacent bedroom closet. After hiring a leak detection company we discovered that the water was under our wooden floor three feet into the bedroom. We wanted to repair only the damaged portion, but soon discovered that we couldn't match the existing floor. We found Royal Oak Flooring on Anjie's list and decided to vistit their showroom. After a consultation with Laurie we decided to replace the bedroom floor. Laurie was very informative, friendly and helpful. We chose a floor style and set up an installation for the weekend. Jaymes showed up on time, was very professional and friendly. The job was finished by the afternoon. All debris was hauled away. The floor looks fabulous.

Our experience with this company was terrific in every way. The owner came and gave us an estimate. He answered all our questions thoroughly and clearly and let us know exactly what to expect. The two workers showed up on time on Monday and commenced moving the furniture and taping up plastic to contain the dust. Over the week, they sanded, sealed, and did their jobs diligently, professionally, and quietly. They were a pleasure.Today is Friday and they've moved the furniture back into place and my floors look absolutely stunning. Brand new! The owner, Beau Pillar, recommended we have the floors resealed in four years or so to keep them looking good. I'm putting it on my calendar. We highly recommend this company.

Stop searching and just book Royal Oak already. I promise you that you won't regret it. Simply put, our new floors look AWESOME. Not only do we think our floors look awesome, but literally every single person who has come to our house has said the same thing, and I say that as someone who actually understands and appreciates what the word "literally" means. It means just that - EVERY SINGLE PERSON, from the plumbers to the painters to the electrician to the asbestos removal guy (hooray for home ownership!) to the HVAC guy to our realtor has told us how great the floors look. Not just good, but great. In addition to being thorough, neat, efficient and friendly, Shawn and his team were also extremely competitively priced. I won't say how much cheaper they were than the other bids we received because I honestly think that these guys can and should raise their prices. This is a family business from SoCal that's only recently set up shop in NorCal and I believe that they're being competitive in order to establish their name here, so it's probably only a matter of time before they inevitably start receiving a whole slew of other 5-star reviews like this. Once that happens, you can be sure that their prices will go up. And you know what? Even if they did, if we ever bought a new house and had to redo the floors (and dear lord I hope that doesn't happen anytime soon, because the other elements of remodeling this house have crushed my soul), then I honestly wouldn't mind paying a little bit more just to work with Royal Oak again. In addition to doing an absolutely meticulous job with the actual installation, Shawn's insight was incredibly helpful when it came to choosing our floors. You would be shocked at how difficult this was with other contractors, or maybe you're not if you've ever actually tried shopping for engineered hardwood flooring. Rather than making us go to a flooring showroom (none of which seem to keep hours that are amiable to working people), he sent us some online links that allowed us to easily browse several options from the comfort of our own home at times that were convenient to us, and then brought samples of our finalists to the house to see in person. So not only did that mean that the showroom came to us, but it also allowed us to see how those samples would look in the house itself. The materials were way nicer than what we found on our own at Home Depot, and were also cheaper to boot. Last but not least, of all of the aforementioned contractors who we hired, Royal Oak is the only one thus far that actually managed to finish the job in the time that they estimated, although I should say that the painters look to be on schedule for this as well. Yes, I know that we should have painted before doing the floors, but we couldn't for other reasons I also won't get in to here. But I digress... Simply put (too late?), while I don't have enough experience on this subject to say unequivocally that Royal Oak is the best flooring contractor in the Bay Area, I feel perfectly comfortable saying that there can't possibly be anyone better.

I couldn't ask for a better experience. Beau, Laurie and the crew were responsive, respectful and incredibly knowledgeable. They came to my house with samples (I wanted to match the hardwood floors in the rest of the house) the next day and explained everything in detail, and we agreed on a product. We scheduled the work for 2 weeks later. The crew arrived on time and couldn't have been lovelier or more helpful in moving things I couldn't handle my myself. The job took 2 /12 days instead of 2, but there was no additional charge since the contract stipulated what was to be done. The results are beyond my expectations, especially the 6-foot step up to the french doors. The attention to detail was extraordinary. And the crew cleaned up perfectly. And they even brought me a floor cleaning kit! I can't imagine ever using anyone else for hardwood floors.

It went fine. Shawn arrived on time for his appointment, and spent some time examining the floor (we have nearly pristine 3 1/4" wide, 3/4" thick, blind-nailed, t&g flooring that dates from 1945. It's been sanded/finished once, when we bought the house four years ago). It took him a while to decide whether we have red or white oak on the floor. Every contractor who looked at it had the same problem (one guy even told me he thought it was hickory--not in a WWII California tract house!). Shawn carefully explained what they would do and what the limitations on what is possible were: can't get the patched area perfectly level with the rest of the floor without refinishing the whole thing; and it would take a few months for the finish o the new wood to turn amber to more or less match the existing four-year old finish. He got me an estimate a few days later. At that point the floor grates and floor furnace hadn't been taken out so we agreed I would call him as soon as that part of the work was done so we could set up a time for him and his helper to come fix our floor. That day arrived about two weeks later and he and his helper showed up on time. They were efficient about getting the new floor boards in (and they got the old ones out that that need to come out to do the interlace without damaging any of the surrounding areas), cleaned, taped off the surrounding areas and put the first coat of finish on. I came home to find that my cats had trampled right through the wet finish and left little sticky paw prints all over the living room and hallway. I called Shawn in a panic and he assured me that they could smooth it out in the next coat and he also told me how to remove the paw prints from the rest of my floor without damaging it. (It worked, much to my relief.) A couple of days after the job was done, I noticed that the ends/edges of some boards were still a little high --it's a high traffic area--and would be a tripping hazard. Shawn came back and spent a couple of hours hand-sanding these (not easy to do w/o hitting the finish on the adjacent boards) so as to round them off a bit. He also filled a couple of gaps that had gotten missed the first time around, and he left me with the rest of the filler and the rest of the finish. I appreciated his conscientiousness and care. My only quibble is that he and his helper didn't put down paper to protect the floor and there are a couple of *very*minor scratches from the nailer and other tools sliding around on the floor. We will be having some more work done on the house in the future and I will definitely call him again. The picture for this review shows the patched area about six weeks after the job was done--as you can see it still has a ways to go before it blends with the existing floor.

We wanted to replace the carpet in our living room, family room & guest room over an area of apprx. 900 sq ft. We are based in San Jose area. Shawn came for his first visit with several samples that I was interested in looking at and did the measurements He was prompt at sending me a rough estimate which included the range depending on the price of the wood we would select. That helped us to give a good starting point even before we picked the wood. On a different day, he came back with more samples. He was willing to come mutiple times with samples till we found something we liked. We also visited one of the galleries that he recommended. He was very prompt & patient with emails at replying to my mutiple queries & giving me multiple quotes with the various options that I was considering. In the end, we narrowed our choice down to Engineered Brazilian Cherry. Shawn promptly sent an estimate for this & also negotiated with the dealer to give a better price. We had checked with several service providers for the estimates. But given his very reasonable estinate (30% lower than the next lowest estimate), willingness to go out of his way to satisfy the customers and his general professionalism made us go with him. He and 2 member crew started the work on the day agreed upon and finished it very efficiently on the estimated date without any issues. They took a lot of care in keeping the work area clean before finsihing for the day, They were a cheerful team and answered all our questions very patiently. They took care of moving the furniture, carpet removal without any additional charge. Lot of other vendors charge for these services. They did a very thourough job at the installation and our floors look gorgeous. Shawn has assured us that he would come & fix any squeaks or any issues with the wood. We know he will attend to it if needed. Would highly recommend this company to anyone looking at a very professional hardwood installation at a very reasonable price. It's the best of both worlds.

I have 800 square feet of wood floors downstairs plus a 200 square ft loft. They started Wed. after Christmas and finished around noon the following Saturday. It took 2 men 3 1/2 days to finish. The floors look really beautiful. The loft floors were especially beat up, so I was astounded to see the difference after the refinishing. The only complaint I have was that the window sills, closets, and bathrooms were covered in wood dust afterwards. Hire them, but ask them to do a thorough job of cleaning up afterwards.
Description of Work: Refinish (sand and 3 coats of sealer) 1000 square feet of hardwood floors and replace a few boards that had pet stains.

We are thrilled with the process and the outcome. Beau showed up as scheduled to provide the estimate and in the next few days he and his office worked with us to find the right hardwood to match existing floors in the house. On a handshake (with contract to follow) we scheduled installation for a week later. Jaymes and the team showed up on time each day and worked consistently to get the job done within the timeframe promised. We could not have asked for anything more. Royal Oak Hardwood Floor Co. is professional and competent -- a combination that's hard to find these days! In fact, we had other estimates from Angie's List people and didn't use them because they lacked one or the other component for what is required for a successful outcome. The other positive reviews on Angie's List from customers satisfied with Royal Oak are well warranted -- and we heartily endorse this companyw without reservation.
Description of Work: Beau's team removed carpeting and tile in the dining room, kitchen, and den and replaced it all with hardwood flooring.

I contacted Royal Oak Hardwood Floor about an estimate for installing approximately 1250 sqft of hardwood. They encouraged me to come down to their showroom to pick out a hardwood type before receiving the estimateso that they can be accurate with their quote. The showroom is in Tarzana, which is quite a drive, so we requested a viewing at the showroom on a Saturday. Laurie agreed to meet us there when they would normally be closed, and showed us all the hardwood options. They are family owned. They were very nice and informative about different types of wood and what we could choose. They let us take home a few samples of the ones we liked so that we could make the final decision looking at it in our home. We got three different quotes and they were competitive with them. Since we liked them a little better, we asked them if they would basically give us the same quote they did before but with no tax and they agreed, since with tax it would have been higher than another quote. When the installers led by Eddie arrived, they were very efficient in prepping the site. There was no haul away of the old carpet (we did that ourselves), so they got right to cutting the door frames so that the hardwood would fit underneath. At the end of each day all the materials and tools were neatly organized and any waste disposed of. At the end of the job, they took all the waste with them (unlike some of the other contractors we had), which was a nice gesture considering our garbage seemed to keep getting filled up the day after garbage pickup. The finished product was stunning floors. They cleaned all the hardwood before they left and so far it looks beautiful.
Description of Work: Installation of 1250 sqft of glue-down Engineered hardwood floors (all rooms except bathrooms and kitchen/dining nook). The demolition of the old carpet and haul away was not included (we had done this ourselves). Also included was installation of moldings throughout the house.
