I contacted this service provider after I saw reviews on Angies list. Our original hard wood floor was scratched a lot due to our dog and also there were different color shades where there was furniture. When Shawn visited us we told him very clearly that we dont want scratches on the new flooring that we install and there shouldnt be discoloration too. He said laminate wont work for us and suggested engineered hard wood as the best option so we went ahead with it. Installation was completed in July 2011 and by September 2011 flooring throughout our house was scratched by our dog which means engineered wood wasnt the option for us. Around March 2012 we noticed discoloration on floor where we had furniture and one of the planks in second bedroom started moving and came out. I sent him emails from April 2012 to July 2012 and called him multiple times and left voicemails too. Shawn never replied back to my calls and emails. I didnt have Angies list subscription when the work was completed by this vendor so I didnt leave this review earlier. I just bought Angies list subscription 5 minutes back and first thing I am doing is posting this review as I really didnt expect such experience after paying so much $$$$$. Update on 12/09/2015: I just logged in today so posting the update today. Royal Oak on 04/30/2015 said they did not receive any inquiries from me. I did call Shawn multiple times but I don't have phone records to prove it. Luckily I sent emails and have proof of that. I sent emails on 04/16/2012, 04/19/2012, 05/07/2012, 06/01/2012 & 07/15/2012. After so many emails I gave up because there wasnt any reply. If there is a way to upload the email trail then I am ready to do that to prove it.

Laurie and Beau are great people to work with! They were very prompt with answering emails and phone calls. I was flying back into town and was able to schedule a meeting for an estimate within the next day. Beau came by and gave me an estimate on the flooring and recommended a few changes that I hadn't thought of. His wealth of knowledge shows his experience in this industry which proves to be quite valuable. Based on the competitive pricing and trustworthiness he brought to the table, I agreed to the terms and work started. The floors came out beautifully along with the nice baseboards that were installed. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who's looking for hardwood floors as I'll be using him again in the future!

My wife and I purchased a new home and wanted a darker stained wood floor. We contacted several providers using Angie's List and Royal Oak was one of the first to respond with a message and a phone call. After setting up an estimate over the phone, we scheduled an in-person walk through. Beau gave me an overview of the schedule but wanted to get his guys to sand and test using a sample plank. Within the same day, he was able to assure me that they could do the job. We started work the next business day. On day 2, they asked us to come by and select a stain. They had two choices for us (based on the pictures we provided them). Beau warned me of some staining that would appear on the base boards. I was assuming that it would be quite a bit, but it's something that could be easily covered by quarter rounds. Beau and team finished on time. My wife and I were able to move in 5 days after the team started their work--one day sanding, one day buffing, and 3 days of staining and coating. They started on a Monday and that weekend, we moved in! We couldn't be happier with our floors, the costs, and the time it took for everything to be completed!

Beau came out on time for an estimate for our floors and gave us a nice estimate and package. The guys showed up on time and did a fantastic job sanding the floors, walking me through stain color choices and were very good at the preparation before the sanding began. Beau checked in with us at the end of every night to let us know the recap for the day and what would be happening the next day. On time, on budget, no issues and floors look amazing. Easy to deal with and no B.S.

We hired Shawn and his team to replace a significant amount of the flooring in our 1960s home. Most of it was carpeted, but one section of the house had a poorly sanded installation of Honduran Mahogany with a very worn and ambered finish. We had 3-4 bids on the job, but Shawn won our confidence due to his experience with exotic woods, and the help he provided in selecting material (Brazilian Walnut / Ipe) that would flow well from the mahogany area since that type of mahogany is banned for sale as flooring now. Shawn has an excellent eye for detail and high standards. As the mahogany was a much softer wood than the Ipe, it was tough to get the sanding right, but they got it done beautifully. We selected an oil based finish for the exotic woods and water based for the white oak. Everything came out amazingly well. We still marvel at the beauty of the floors, especially the mahogany that has been given a new lease on life. While all onsite wood refinishing will be dusty, surrounding areas were taped off and after all was said and done it wasn't too bad. However, I will add that the engineered wood areas went down lighting fast and since they were prefinished there was no dust and no fumes. In the end though we have no regrets with any of our choices. One thing I will always remember is how, during the bid process, I was having some doubt about the exotic woods. (Note: I had originally wanted everything stained dark brown because I didn't believe the mahogany could ever look good again) Shawn kept reassuring me that "Once it's done it is going to look amazing. You are going to love it." He said it with so much confidence and integrity. Eventually we decided to trust him. Due to our lack of experience with these woods it felt like a leap of faith. But it was just one of those times when you just know that a person really knows what they're doing. And Shawn delivered. The floors look amazing and we love them. Royal Oak's bid was not the lowest, but it was definitely worth it.

The job was done in 2 phases so that we would have a place to live. All furniture including a massive bookcase/entertainment center were carefully dismantled and moved out. The existing flooring was removed and replaced in the family room with new shoes installed to match existing cabinets. When that was completed, the refinishing was done. They took great care to screen and draped everything during the sanding to minimize the dust. They worked hard to get the finish the color we wanted and made suggestions to insure the job was high quality. The workers were punctual, cheerful, respectful and polite throughout the entire job. They were just as meticulous putting everything back when they were through. They were not the lowest bid but in the end, the quality justified the price.

Royal Oak Hardwood Flooring Company is outstanding in service, workmanship, and integrity. Beau Pillar the owner has thirty years of experience in the business and as a result is very knowledgeable. We have walnut floors that I had put in 13 years ago. The floor was very worn in the kitchen and I was worried that it might not be able to be brought back to the original beauty. The family room has oak parquet flooring that was very damaged and I thought would have to be replaced. Beau reassured me that not only could they be repaired but they would look like new glossy floors again. Beau's team of workers led by Raphael did just that. The result was absolutely beautiful wood floors throughout the house. Raphael and his team sanded the floors and applied three coats of polyurethane. The last sanding was done by hand. The floors are beautiful and a dream to clean, so easy! The price of moving the furniture out of the house and then moving the furniture back in was included in the cost of refinishing the floors. We are moving from our home and the realtors and buyers are all exclaiming over the beauty of the flooring throughout our home. Thank you Beau and thank you to Raphael and his team for all their hard work. We absolutely love the floors!

Working with Royal Oak Hardwood Floors was a positive experience. The owner came to the house at the scheduled time, explained clearly what was possible in blending 70 year old wood with new and also recommended the less expensive route of restoring my engineered floor in the kitchen and laundry area rather than replacement. The latter had to be considered because the finished top wood was only 1/8 inch thick. He also suggested a way to extend the life of this type of flooring. The workers arrived on time and were pleasant, diligent and skillful. Plastic sheeting was placed on affected furniture, appliances and doorways. The repair was done with attention to blending wood segments for appearance and the refinishing was careful and detailed. After final sanding, all surfaces in the area were vacuumed but a thorough wiping of exposed surfaces was still needed in the following days. The kitchen, laundry area and repaired areas received three coats of clear urethane, together with a hand sanding between the second and third coats. At the conclusion the kitchen looked as new and the repaired areas blended well. The work was completed in two full days by three workers. The equipment needed for this type of work requires 240 volts, available at the input of the main electrical panel. In the evening after the first day?s work, the garage was dark when it should have had lights and the house surge protection indicator light was off. Apparently, in the course of the work, my house surge protection circuit had been turned off but not restored on completion. In addition the GFI of my outdoor circuit was tripped. Both problems were easily solved but nobody knew anything about them the next day.

I needed to have some floors sanded and refinished as it had been quite a while since they had been worked on. I had several people come out to give me quotes and based on the price (not the cheapest, not the highest), reviews on Angies List, and contact with Beau I gave Royal Oak the job. Beau did a great job explaining the process and his guys did what they said they would do. They showed up on time when we scheduled the appointment and were respectful of the old house. The floors came out great (being 60+ years old) and I was happy with the end result. I would recommend Royal Oak to anyone considering doing hardwood floor work.

Update: It has now been almost two years and the floors still look okay from far away, but there are scratches all over the place. The base boards look completely awful and are popping off the wall in some areas. We had some painting done and the blue painter's tape actually lifted up part of the stain and finish on the floor! We've been told by a couple contractors that the refinishing job was pretty bad. I can't believe that the floor is this delicate and was told that it would be much more resilient. This has all been very disappointing. Service was good and the flooring came out nice (nice color and finish). The base boards look pretty sloppy in areas. It's been almost a year and the floors still look good. There are definitely more scratches on the floors than I would have expected at this point; we have a 50lb dog and she doesn't seem to be that rough on the floor (she's 10-years-old), but it is wood flooring so I think some of that is to be expected.

Beau and his crew are very professional, kind and considerate. They cleaned up after themselves everyday. They would have been done sooner had I not given them Memorial Day weekend off. I needed the break for myself I'm sure they enjoyed the time off too.

I loved working with Royal Oak, and already have them scheduled to come back in a couple weeks to help me with another project. What I really appreciated about Beau was that he didn't try to sell me NEW flooring, and actually saw the importance of properly repairing and restoring the existing floors. And these floors were in BAD shape and had been really abused over the years. When Royal Oak was done, the floors looked brand new. Beautiful! They just don't make floors like this any more.

It was a great pleasure to deal with them. They price was very competitive (among other A+ rated contractors). They workers are very nice, always showed up on time, and did they job very well. There was no problem communicating with theirs contractors, as the main guy spoke english very well. Overall, everything went very smoothly, according to the schedule, and they cleaned up everything when they were done. If I would need to change floors ever again, I will go with Royal Oak Hardwood floors again without any doubt. I wish it was that easy to work with all contractors.

We remodeled our house and decided to install a new hardwood floor in our entire house (excluding the two kid rooms). I have to say the professional service was just perfect from the very first visit to the end of getting it all done. Royal Oak had to demolition a significant amount of old tiles, installing the hardwood which included the stairs and getting it all nicely cleaned at the end. Everybody who comes into our house comments on the beauty of the hardwood, which as well Royal Oak helped us selecting. They even followed up after everything was done and asked if there are any follow up touch up to do? I had already a lot of different hardwood floor installations in my previous homes but that one was by far the best. I am not sure if I paid a bit more or not but I know that my floor after 6 month looks like on the first day. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I am sure if I ever have a problem they will take care of it. Thanks again for all your work.

My husband and I recently bought our first house, and to put it simply, the floors were atrocious. There were literally 6 different types of flooring in our main living area. On top of that, underneath some of the flooring was the original hardwood flooring that had unfortunately been cut apart in some areas by the previous owners. And so began our quest to find a reputable hardwood floor installer... From the moment my husband and I met Beau (the owner), we could tell that he was a family man at heart and that his family business was dedicated to provide great work. He discussed the option of trying to salvage the original hardwood floors vs. starting from scratch and installing engineered hardwood floors instead. We ended up going with the latter as cost-wise, both would come out to be similar. Beau took into account our current and future lifestyles (kids and dogs) as well as our budget, so choosing the engineered hardwood floor was an easy choice. Lori helped us choose the different flooring, and she was amazing. She is incredibly patient and responsive with any questions you might have. Eddie and his guys did an incredible job installing our floors. He is meticulous at his craft and very knowledgable and willing to explain what he is doing/describing any other options. I LOVED how our floors turned out, and especially loved how our stairs and updated railing turned out. I may have literally squealed when I came home from work and saw the flooring for the first time... :) What really seems to set Royal Oak apart from the other companies (and we are only assuming, since we've never had hardwood floors installed by anyone else), is that customer service is their #1 goal and they will not rest until you are 100% happy with your flooring. We will definitely use them again in the future for our hardwood floor needs, and recommend them without hesitation.

These guys are the rock stars of hardwood flooring! I give Royal Oak an A+. I have a mid century house with an addition onto the living room. The house originally had hardwood thought out but they didn't add it in the addition area and carpeted the whole house. Also a former owner put down black and white vinyl squares with industrial strength glue, what a mess you would of thought the hardwood was ruined! Oh and there was some old wood rot to deal with in the sub flooring, which Royal Oak fixed for me at no additional cost. They did a wonderful job, laid in new hardwood and feathered it into the old flooring, sanded and stained and now you can't even tell the wood in the addition flooring is not original to the house. They also moved the furniture and brought it all back in and even hooked up the entertainment system. The guys doing the work are very professional and courteous and it was no problem having them here during the project. I would recommend Royal Oak to anyone thinking of getting new or restored hardwood flooring. If I had known how reasonable and easy it is to get floors done I would of done it years ago. I wish all the contractors I have dealt with over the years were as good to work with as Royal Oak.

Beau was completely on time with his estimate appointment, more than accommodating to my schedule, and his staff did a great job in every aspect. Most important to me, his staff had to install some new boards in the existing wood floors in the hall where there had been an old floor heater originally (there was just a piece of plywood over a hole that had been covered with carpet), and also an area in the den where there had originally been a wall (same thing...plywood over holes in the foundation). You would not know there had even been a repair, that is how good the new parts of the floor blend with the old floors that have been there since 1950!.

First, I would like to say that "The Curse" has been broken. What I mean by this is, over the last several years I have had nightmare experiences with contractors. My experience with Beau and his skilled team was excellent. Our lead crew was Ramone and Rafael, who were consummate professionals, not to mention so kind and friendly. At one point during the job there were about 10 guys working throughout the house. Even during all the chaos the guys would be laughing, singing, always very good energy. They were on-time everyday, and did a great job at keeping things as neat and clean as possible. I can't say enough about Beau (and Laurie too). Truly a rare breed of professionals. So conscientious about the customers needs, going that EXTRA mile to make sure you are COMPLETELY happy. So rare these days. The floors are gorgeous and the custom stairs are a perfect match. IMPORTANT FACT: ALL the employees have worked for Beau not less than 10 years. Great job!

We received proposal from 3 installers on this project. During the initial selection, Shawn answered all our questions and was very patient. Once we decided to go with Royal Oak, Shawn walked us through the project, what are the different activities involved and when will they be completed. Since we had to work during the last week of december, we requested Shawn to help us install during that time. He and Junior started the work, they helped us to move furniture around and was very much flexible with our work schedule during that time. The team ensured that the process was as smooth as possible going one room after other so that we can use the room once the installation was complete. The project was almost as planned, but got delayed by few days since there were holidays in between impacting the continuity as well as material shortage. There were of course couple of glitches that resulted in shortage of materials as well: 1. Couple of bedrooms were not perfect straight lines, so they encountered more wastage than the normal 2. Apparently they missed including one of the closet (~50sft) in the initial measurements r During this whole churn, I believe Shawn was very remorseful and helped us by ordering extra materials and also not charging installation for the missed closet. Overall, though installing the floors while being at the home is painful, Shawn and Junior made it a very smooth experience. I'd definitely recommend Shawn for anyone planning to install flooring. The floor is beautiful now. It was badly discolored and damaged but we were very pleased with the results. Some other companies we contacted said they would not be able to restore this floor. This was a difficult and time consuming job because it would be easy to ruin an engineered wood floor by sanding through the thin wood veneer. This job was costly but cheaper than replacing the existing wood floor. We're glad we hired the experts.

Their attention to detail and workmanship was excellent. The owner (who came to do estimate) is very personable and cares about the quality of his craft. You need to go to the showroom to pick out the flooring (and take home samples). The work was done quickly, without being rushed. The workers were careful with our walls and respectful of our furniture. And you can immediately use the floors - no wait time! We would recommend them hands down. Price was reasonable but not the cheapest bid. Still, worth it to get quality product and quality work!

We worked with Shawn PIllar out of the San Jose office. The experience was exceptional. Shawn went out of his way to find a match for our discontinued hardwood floors. The price and finished product were excellent. Shawn was on time, easy to work with and went out of his way to make us happy. I have had alot of experience with contractors and if every project were this easy I would not hesitate to do more work on my house. Thank you Shawn!

We were happy with Royal Oak, the owner Beau, and his team. His team are professional, great workmanship, and paid attention to details.

Extremely pleased with the results. Our old hardwood floors look beautiful. It was a pleasure to work with Beau as he is very personable. He is very knowledgeable about the hardwood flooring and very concerned with customer satisfaction. He was very prompt to answer questions or concerns we had about the floors and the process. Three brothers -- Jesus, Luis,and Diego - were the team that refinished our floors. They were quick, efficient and also knowledgeable and skilled in making our floors look great. For us, the entire process took almost a week because we lived in the house while the floors were being worked on. Half of our furniture was upstairs while the downstairs floors were refinished and vice/versa. If you can avoid that, do! Because of our circumstances that was the best option for us. Even so, Beau and his team always made sure we could live in the house. The fumes and dust were at a minimum and I was pleasantly surprised. The team covered all of our furnishings in plastic, as well as vents, closets, doorways, window treatments, etc. They even dealt with moving our large upright piano. It was a long week for us but the results were well worth it. I just wish my dog had the same respect for the newly finished floors as we do! I recommend Royal Oak Hardwood Flooring.

It went beautifully! The installers were very professional, helpful and diligent. They worked overtime on a few nights to finish the rooms. The whole installation went beautifully and I still can't believe I have these beautiful floors in my house. The flooring makes my rooms like they are in the magazine, House Beautiful. Everyone who visits can't believe the change in the interior because of the flooring. I must say everyone at Royal Flooring were very polite, efficient and knowledgeable. I would recommend them highly. The company does a very good job!
