They banged up the walls so bad that I have to paint the walls from all of the bangs and scuffs. I also have to replace the molding they put back was sloppy. They were supposed to match it to the bedrooms which are shiny, which they did not. He told me he had never had anyone ask him for shiny floors in 36 years. The floors look good it's just not what I wanted.

Beau and his crew where great. Everyone showed up on time and they even started the job a few days earlier than expected knowing I wanted them to start as early as possible. The crew was very careful to tape off areas so that the dust was kept to the areas being worked on. I received follow up everyday by Beau to let me know exactly what was happening and he made helpful suggestions to maximize the overall outcome of the finished floor. The whole process took 4 days. I am VERY happy with the outcome. Our floors look brand new. All the stains and deep scratches in the wood are gone and the natural finish brightens up the whole room. I am so happy with the finished product, I would definitely recommend Beau / Royal Oak to my friends.

We actually had several estimates for the proposed work and Beau quoted a reasonable price. He clearly described the work that would be involved. We made use of the store in Tarzana to pick out a variety of samples, which was a good thing as the original floors we picked just didn't quite work once we brought them home. Work was performed in a timely and professional manner. Beau was in communication at numerous times throughout the process. They were also very helpful in resolving an issue regarding the incorrect stain on the nosings for the stairs (re-stained on site). Overall we were thrilled with the result and had a very positive experience. Would definitely consider working with them again and highly recommend.

We purchased a 100 year old house and wanted to do something about the low quality engineered flooring that had been installed by the previous owner. The new stuff was so thin it couldn't be sanded down for refinishing and we were planning to have a different flooring company rip it out and put in a new oak floor. Before taking that step -- out of curiosity -- we pulled up a few of the engineered boards and discovered the quarter sawn oak floor underneath it and decided to try to save that floor. Unfortunately, the newer flooring had been glued in place with a thick coat of mastic and it was a complete mess. The flooring company we had been using said it couldn't save the old floor and it was best to start anew. We called a second and third flooring place to take a look and they, too, said it was mission impossible. In stepped Beau Pillar and his amazing crew, lead by Ralph. Beau took one look at the floor and said it could be done. It wasn't going to be cheap he warned (and he wasn't lying), but it would look great. With nobody else willing to do the job, we accepted the proposal and crossed our fingers. Work began in a few days and I mean to tell you that those guys really busted their guts on that floor, carefully cutting and pulling up the engineered boards and then scraping, scraping, scraping that mastic off before sanding, patching, re-sanding, staining and finishing the wood. It took a long time, but the end result was spectacular: glowing oak boards, some of them 15 feet long. When we noticed a few imperfections in the finish, Beau sent his guys back out to sharpen them up a few days later, and happily paid for a window that was broken accidentally by his crew. It was mission impossible and Royal Oak pulled it off. Thanks, Beau.

They were good. There was only one room that didn’t have the hardwood floor originally. It was raining when they did the work and they were very careful. They tried to keep it clean. They brought some material to cover the outside of the house because there was a leakage and I hadn’t got people to repair that yet. They went out to get the extra materials without me asking them to get it. Their timing is very good. Beau is the owner and he gives the time lines before the work starts. Their clean up was good. The floor is pretty good. Overall, I was happy with them. Their responsiveness and punctuality was very good. I would use them again in the future if need be. I’ve already recommended them to a couple of my friends.

From start to finish my experience with Royal Oak has been a first class experience. I met with the owner, Beau, who personally does the house call estimates and we reviewed my project. He could have immediately scheduled me in but I was having other vendors working at house and so I had to delay him a bit. He worked with me on this and was very forgiving of my schedule changes which I really appreciate because it's a challenge juggling everyone assisting with a remodel. He is sincere, sweet and very focused on making his customers happy which includes his fair pricing. His crew lead by Martin were always punctual and respectful of my home. The were hard little worker bees and diligently stuck to the slightly rushed schedule I needed for the works to be completed, even adding on an additional person to maximize the progress. My floors look shiny and beautiful and I was furthermore impressed by the cleanup of all the sand dust they did prior to finishing. This is the company you want to do business with!

We needed to either change the carpet in our large family room or decide to do wood floors. We decided on wood floors and wanted to be sure that (considering that this is the more expensive option) that the job would be done well. It was. The work crew was competent, punctual and professional. My husband decided he wanted to match the peg and groove look of the old floor. This turns out to be quite expensive and detailed work, but he wanted that look. Although it was a last minute decision Mr. Pillar's crew was able to do it well and keep on schedule. I had a specific timetable in mind and Mr. Pillar was able to accommodate it perfectly. It really helped me. Although the peg and groove added about 2500$ to cost of the floor my husband (and friends) love it and it does add to the upscale look. The new oak flooring matches the old after the sanding perfectly. The floor looks wonderful! The process of redoing wood floors when you live in the house is a hassle, but the crew were great about moving furniture, covering everything and cleaning up at the end of each day. I feel it was an expensive effort but completely worth it. The floors are beautiful, everyone comments on how it changed the look of the whole house. The past recommendations that Mr. Pillar received were well founded. I feel I got a perfect job with no problems which is why I use Angies list. Having heard sad stories of other jobs I am happy that this went off without a problem and resulted in a real value added for our home and a daily pleasure to live with! Based on my experience I would recommend Royal Oak very highly!

who knows - they don't return a phone call

We worked with Shawn, Beau's son, who manages the branch of their family business in the South Bay area. After getting bids from four different vendors, we felt most comfortable with Shawn and his commitment to getting the job done right from the very start. We haven't been disappointed. In fact, the third coat of poly is being laid down on our floors as I type and I'm already writing an "A" review. Shawn first impressed us with his quick estimate and immediate revision of the estimate when he realized he could help us save by using some leftover flooring he'd had from another job at no cost to us (we had some boards that needed to be repaired). While his estimate was not the lowest we received, we felt it was a fair price for the work needing to be done. The sanding started on Monday on just over 800 sq. feet of oak flooring. He was able to fix several squeaks we had in the floors and filled countless holes and gaps in the boards. The before and after is truly remarkable (we'll upload photos once the job is fully completed). As we decided on stain colors and trim, Shawn responded quickly to calls, emails and text messages. He also spent the better part of a day mixing and staining spare boards to get the "perfect" color based on photos of other floors and even furniture that we'd sent. When we were concerned about foot traffic wearing the finish, he recommended a commercial-grade finish which set our minds at ease. We checked on progress each night and found our house and yard were consistently kept clean -- they did a great job taping things off and leaving the house in great condition every time they left. It's now Friday and we expect to be able to move in by the end of the weekend. Throughout the process, Shawn was great about answering questions. We truly feel he took personal pride in the work he does and it shows in the (almost) finished product. He also made it clear that if we see anything we're unhappy with once we move in and have more of a chance to look around, he will come back and fix those things promptly. We don't expect to need that based on the quality work we're seeing today, but it's great to know we have the reassurance of that commitment. At the moment, the company doesn't accept credit cards (at least for the South Bay location), but they plan to resolve this within the next month or so and have been very accomodating for payment. We highly recommend Shawn & his team if you're looking for someone who has a high level of attention to detail and will walk through the process with you every step of the way!

We couldn't be happier. Royal Oak is owned by Beau Pillar-- in short, a sweetheart. Beau was recommended to us by a friend. I called him on a Friday. He came out to our house to give us an estimate on a Saturday. The estimate had a breakdown of services to be performed and was about $600 dollars higher than another guy, who simply wrote down a dollar amount on the back of his business card. Suffice it to say, we felt that something like hardwood flooring should be left to a company that is able to give an itemized estimate, that has been in the business for 40+ years and can back up their work. Also, we felt that if something went wrong, we could always go to their storefront on Ventura Blvd. in Tarzana and have a face to face, rather than hunting down some shady contractor without a business address, who could disappear to his unnamed golden palace in the city of lights. Aaaanyways, I called Beau back and he dropped his price so that it was only a couple hundred higher than the shady contractor-- that's when I knew we hit the right mark. So we scheduled an install date... but since nothing works out according to plan in remodeling, I had to push the install date over and over again. And poor Lori, who had to filter my incessant nagging at the reception desk, seemed always jovial about it. Why? Well, when I came into their storefront I noticed they have a giant whiteboard with their work dates filled in. The board was lined with gig after gig-- these guys have multiple crews working everyday! They don't care if I push a work date. And this isn't your big box store. They get business cause they come through for their costumers and then people like me rave about them. When the date finally came, three instal guys came out with the hardwood. They took an hour cleaning and helping me take out appliances that were still in the way, no problem. They cleared the floor of debris and laid down the floor in 3 days. The quality of work done was superb. I'm a perfectionist and always have complaints, but honestly, this time I didn't. Real hardwood takes at least a week to acclimate to the moisture in the room, so we let it settle. The day before it had to be finished, my girlfriend and I were laying down bricks for a hearth in the fireplace and even though I had thought I sufficely covered the new hardwood so that mortar wouldn't drip on it while we worked, I was wrong. A few drops of mortar mix dropped on the hardwood and turned it red. Needless to say I freaked. The following day, Beau's guys-- Raul, Jesus and Luis (dunno if I'm spelling their names correctly)-- came out to finish the flooring and were able to completely get the stains out-- they told me I was lucky the stain was less than 24 hours old. Phew. I really feel I need to mention these guys' names, because they went above and beyond. They not only coated my floors and carved out a beautiful reducer, but did the following services free of charge: 1. Fixed a good amount of squeaks in the old floor. 2. Replaced old rotten floorboards in the original hardwood (it was under carpet for 55 years). 3. Patched holes. 4. BUILT AND INSTALLED WOODEN THRESHOLDS FOR THE 3 ENTRYWAY DOORS IN MY HOUSE! Again, they were not contracted for these services... they just did them cause that's how they're nice. Also, they've worked with Beau for the last 20+ years as I understand it. There's something to be said for a company who not only treats their clients right, but also their employees. While Royal Oak included free baseboards over the new hardwood floors, Beau also gave me a wonderful price on baseboards and install over the old flooring... BY FAR cheaper than anything people are talking about on the internet. I won't tell you how much, but when he does your house, ask him for a quote there too. I doubt you'll be disappointed. It took these guys a week to finish their work. A few days passed. The stain settled. It was gorgeous, but being a perfectionist, I noticed that some parts of the floor could use touch ups. Since I had Beau on speed dial at this point and bugged him about every little thing that came up, I called him and he came over within the hour! He looked at the floor and without any excuses whatsoever, said, yup, lets do touch ups. No charge of course. Needless to say, I had other contractors working in my house and because they were late finishing, I had to push touch ups twice again... and again, Beau was calm even when I was hysterical. No problem he said, give me a call when you're ready. When I was ready, the guys came on a Friday. Half way through the refinishing process I changed my mind about which parts need retouching, then changed them again, but it was already too late to do that work the same day, so the guys had to come out on a Saturday to finish. Yes, I am a terrible customer, I demand a lot and change my mind a lot. But Royal Oak just keeps doing their job wonderfully, time after time, no questions asked, no hassle. The floors were just finished this past weekend and they look fabulous! Thank you Royal Oak! We couldn't be happier! One thing I should note is that if you chose these guys to do work for you and for whatever miniscule reason you're not happy with it. Call them back and they'll fix it! As many times as it takes, they'll come out and get it right. Beau told me that sometimes customers aren't completely satisfied, but they don't call and ask for touch ups, and then they give unfavorable reviews. That sucks. Just like anything in life, perfection is a process, so don't be afraid to call back and ask for what YOU want. As Beau said, "It's the icing on the cake for us." Before you write an unfavorable review, let them get their 95% done to a 100%. By the way, did I mention that they PERFECTLY MATCHED brand new hardwood floor to 55 year old hardwood?!?!?! Ok, just thought I should mention that again.

I waited to get a feel for the quality of the installation before posting a review. Overall, we're very pleased with Royal Oak Hardwood Floors. The process was smooth. Eddie and his crew worked diligently over the duration of the project and the floors look great.

I found that they were very reliable. They were on time and they did the work. The only thing was that the owner of the company did not check up on us to see if we very happy, after the work was done. Other than that, everything else was exceptional. They gave us an exceptional price and an exceptional product. They have been in this business for a long time. It took them longer than they anticipated. They said that they would take three days and therefore, they had to come back to do some clean up. We did not have a contract with them because they were in this business for a long time. It was more of a neighborhood type agreement. But, we were formal people and we liked everything in writing. They gave us the best price and showed us the product. They were very solicitous and very pleasant to work with. We were very happy with the results.

They were great and they were very responsive. It was very easy to get them out here.

Royal Oak was extremely responsive and professional. They had movers come in and move all furniture in the house into our garage outside. Sanded, repaired and finished the floors -- and moved all furniture back into the house. Work was completed in one week and looked amazing. The floors were bright, beautiful and popped like I never could have imagined.

The floors were replaced first, then a few weeks later they did the sanding and staining. They had to wait a week to let the new wood acclimate to our environment and Bo accommodated our schedule happily. We knew it would be a big job, and we have two toddlers. We felt comfortable leaving the house for the week while the guys did the sanding and staining. Bo respects and trusts the men that work for him and we did too. They covered everything with plastic - and were very careful in moving our furniture When they were finished with the floors they replaced the baseboards, and put back the furniture (including our piano). The crew answered all of my questions as they came up. It was a great job and a great experience.

I noticed an eau de puppy odor in my den and decided it was time to toss out my once perfect area rug. Well ,to my surprise. When I rolled up the carpet I discovered dark brown stains all over my light wood floors. Even without the carpet I noticed the odor wouldn't go away. Dreading the amount of work involved in refinishing floors in a furnished house, I logged onto Angie's list and found Royal Oak Hardwood floor. I send an email and got a phone call from a lovely woman who set up an appointment with Beau. He arrived on time and looked at my puppy stains and started to explain how they would have to replace those sections of the floor since the stains were so dark. Still dreading the idea, I told him I was thinking of refinishing all the floors in a dark stain. Within 10 minutes he had me comfortable with the idea of turning over the keys and moving out of my house for a week. He made it sound so easy. And actually with his amazing group of guys, it was. My floors are just beautiful and the color they custom mixed for me is perfect. Plus Beau was right. With my paint colors and furniture, dark was the way to go. I also want to add that this kind of care and pride of workmanship is hard to find. Beau and Ralph not only bent over backwards to make sure I got exactly what I wanted, but when Ralph and his crew were moving the furniture back in the house I saw a hornets nest on the outside of my living room window ...which freaked me out. They not only scraped it away, they cleaned the window! Where do you ever find service like that? Oh yes, I almost forgot. They also vacuumed the furniture before they brought it back into the house. Pretty impressive. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Beau and his guys were. What I can say is... If you need your floors refinished, look no further. These guys are the best.

Beau showed up at the appointed time to perform an estimate. The installers, Rafael and his assistant were amazing! No mess, no fuss, and they were fast and professional. When it was determined that a base shoe material I had requested cost more than was anticipated, Beau showed up at the door to explain why the increased cost. I will use them next year to screen sand and finish my entire downstairs. You can't go wrong with Royal Oak.

We were hoping to rip out the existing carpet in the bedrooms and match the hardwood in the living room/dining room. We were discouraged, however, when we were told by a flooring expert that it would be like trying to pinpoint a wine by taste alone. Beau at Royal Oak was somehow able to find a wood that matched our existing floor! He was even willing to negotiate the price and have the floor installed quickly so that we could move in on the weekend after Thanksgiving. We appreciated his numerous follow-up calls and the professionalism of his crew. We would highly recommend Royal Oak and hope to work with them again in the future. Note: I had to call the company several times before I received a call back but Beau explained that his longtime assistant was on maternity leave and working part time from home. I appreciated his commitment to his staff and the fact that he personally called me back to explain why the response time was slower than usual.

They were very prompt. They could have told me something needed a lot of work, but they didn?t! They could have gotten a lot more money than need be. They did exactly what they said they would do.

My experience with Royal Oak was great from the beginning. This is a very professional company who does explemplary work. The whole experience was perfect. My floors are beautiful and the price was reasonable.

Beau is a real professional. He responded quickly to our request for a quote, and carefully explained everything that would need to be done. He coordinated his schedule to a time when we would be away on vacation, and then kept us informed by phone of the progress being made. He was flexible with his timing, allowing us to schedule brining the furniture back into the house after another contractor finished the interior painting. We couldn't be happier with the work done. The crew was very professional. The quality of the work is outstanding. When we returned from vacation, our floors were completed, on schedule and looked wonderful. These guys are great, and I highly recommend them.
