They responded promptly on the day and time agreed. Installed the flooring promptly and provided clean up. The work was outstanding. It gave a first class appearance to the entrance way to our home as the dining room is the first thing one sees. We recently sold our home and the appearance of the flooring is one of the things that enhanced the sale. I would recomment them to anyone wanting to install hardwood flooring.

Beau came to bid job, on time as promised. We had looked at a number of flooring samples, and knew generally what we wanted. He answered our questions, and we decided to go with Royal Oak, based on their reputation and price. Other bids started out reasonable, but charged for each item (e.g., carpet removal, glue, baseboard, etc.) Flooring was estimated to take 5 days. They started job on date promised and finished it on time. Ran a very clean job, and were careful with our furniture and belongings. Installation crew was competent, hardworking and courteous. Beau's son James checked the job regularly to be sure everything was going smoothly. Very smooth job from start to finish. Left a good amount of flooring with us, in case future rempairs are ever needed. We couldn't be more pleased with the final results. Would highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again.

We couldn't be happier with the end result. Beau came by to observe the work several times, and his son James came every day. But really, the work crew didn't seem to require any supervision at all, they were that good. It's very unusual in this day and age, I think, to contract for a major home remodeling project and get exactly what you paid for (or more) with no aggravation or frustration along the way. But that was our experience with Royal Oak flooring -- smooth as a great wood floor.

Called Royal Oak to get an estimate. A week and 2 calls later I got a response and set an appointment, which they broke the day of since the guy I talked to a family emergency. Understandable, except there were apparently no other people that worked at Royal Oak that could help us. For pricing and samples of material we were instructed to user their competitor (not allowed to mention them by name as per Angies list rules but Royal Oak brought them up specifically, not us. This competitor is also on Angies list), and he said Royal oak would match both price and material, after they had done the work of the estimate. He further instructed us to go to "Competitor X"'s show room, since Royal Oak didnt have one, to see samples, which they would also then match. For reference, the competitor is NOT a partner to this company, and in fact the guy from Royal Oak was very critical of them, saying they were a tiny, low quality startup that spun off of Royal Oak after one of their lesser skilled employees left. (yet, they are apparently much better equipped for the job). "Competitor X" was professional and hendled themselves well, so we just went ahead and used them (see our other review to be posted soon).

Royal Oak showed up on time for estimate, and estimator was very friendly and helpful. They refinished all our wood floors (900 sf home) and did a wonderful job. The floors look beautiful, they even took out some areas of wood that weren't in good shape for no additional cost. They moved the furniture at the beginning and put everything back at the end. Very neat and respectful to the surroundings. I came in a few days and the men working on the floors were all nice, respectful and informative. The reason I gave a "B" on pricing: I did get the same quote of $2,600 from another company, but when I decided not to go with this other company, they lowered the price to $2,100. I decided to stay with Royal Oak as they were more professional and consistent in terms of the initial quote and follow through. The second company took too long in getting back to me regarding the quote, so it made me uneasy. So possibly the rate was competitive and fair.

We were very excited that Beau was so professional on the first meeting we had with him. He seemed very professional and committed to his job. It was such that we gave him a cash deposit that day. Also he had GREAT reviews from Angie's List which I thought highly of. (Boy was I wrong) Unfortunately, circumstances were such that Beau was going through some personal and health issues where he could not oversee the work as he may have liked to. Though we are somewhat satisfied with the final product it was really a lousy experience in terms of communication and the process. Unfortunately we had to get the work done while living in the house. Though we were promised all will be handled well, it was more often than not they left nails and glue exposed after a day's job. Not much cleanup after a day's work. Also, were it not for us pointing out that there were glue stains and places where the work was not done properly they failed to address this on their own. With great reviews come high expectation - this one just did not meet our expectations. When I addressed these concerns Beau made sure these were corrected which was reassuring but the biggest disappointment was that after the final check was paid and we needed to contact them they did NOT return our phone calls. Beau indicated that he was personally responsible for this as there were things going on. I accepted his apology but I find it hard to believe that not one person from his company could give us a call to let us know when they will be able to come back to us a bit later. All in all, everything was addressed at the end which shows that Beau does care about his customers but the process was very unpleasant for us.

Since they had replaced all the flooring 3 1/2 years ago after water damage and did a great job, we decided to contact them when our tenants moved out to have them buff, polish and apply polyurathane to the floors. They were very fair in negotiating a reasonable price and able to start immediately, and were done very quickly and a fantastic job.

I had carpet in the living room dining room and hallway removed. Approximately, 50% of the existing oak hardwood floors had to be replaced. The floors were refinished and three coats of polyurethane was applied. They also added crown molding. The floors are beautiful! The workers arrived on time daily and were very professional. I would highly recommend this company.

Wonderful! Bo was like having my dad take care of it. He was super flexible, showed up on time and was very positive. He reassured me that the work would be done well and it was. He finished early which allowed me to move in more quickly. The floors are beautiful and I am very happy.

I trusted Bo, his son, and his crew to work while we went to Hawaii. Prior to my departure, I gave instructions to place wood that was less uniformly stained in closet or in areas that would not be visible. We chose walnut and it has natural variation. We arrived home and found my instructions were followed and that the house was left clean. One piece needed to be changed out because of too much variation in a visible area and this was immediately attended to.

I have subscribed to Angie's list for several years, using several services that were recommended. I have not, however, taken the time to actually write a review for a business until now. Simply put, Royal Oak Hardwood Flooring is the best. Shawn Pillar (owner's son) is now running the business in the bay area and has picked up on his father's legacy, delivering phenomenal service & excellent results. We refinished two bedrooms / two closets in our home. Shawn and his team performed repairs, installed new flooring & refinished everything to match our existing floors. The team was professional, moved all of our large furniture for us & were professionals. I give them my highest recommendation & would absolutely use them for any hardwood floor work in the future. Hope this review goes a long way - they totally earned high praise from my family.

First of all the showroom selection is excellent. I had studied the flooring choices at several local stores (including big chain home suppliers) but the Royal Oak store blew them all away. Variety, quality and (especially) personal, knowledgeable attention to guide me through a decision I will live with for a while. I appreciated being able to borrow a few large samples (3' x 3') to bring home and see in situ - much better than the 3" x 3" fragments I was getting elsewhere. I also appreciated how well my expectations were managed through the process (perhaps my biggest complaint about other contractors I've worked with recently). The Royal Oak team pro-actively (and accurately) explained the order lead time and all aspects of the installation process, including a mid-flight change. When it became clear that we would have to lay down an additional layer of plywood to match the height of existing wood floors in other rooms, they responded quickly and adjusted their plans accordingly. The installation team was professional, respectful and courteous, moved the furniture around with care and was meticulous in their clean-up. They seemed genuinely to enjoy their work (there was singing!). The final floors are beautiful. I have a number of projects on the go right now, with several contractors. They're all getting the job done but I must commend Royal Oak for an outstanding end-to-end customer experience - head and shoulders above the others.

Beau had installed new hardwood flooring in my kitchen in 2008. The flooring was installed over linoleum and it would not have been possible to extend the flooring under the dishwasher, which was exactly counter height, on the old tiled flooring (preceding the linoleum floor). Beau promised that, if the dishwasher ever needed to be removed, he would come back, remove a floor board so the dishwasher could be removed and then return after the dishwasher was installed to replace the board he removed. He kept his promise, four years later. Not only that, he would not charge me for the job, which turned out to involve much more than two trips to remove and replace one board. Beau sent his son, Jaymes, who came on short notice so that the dishwasher could be installed soon after its delivery. He removed the board. The installer came the next morning to remove the dishwasher. Jaymes came about an hour later and found that the floor needed to be raised about 3/4 inch so the new flooring under the dishwasher would be level with the kitchen floor. He installed a piece of plywood and then installed the red oak, sanded it and coated it with polyurethane to seal it. The dishwasher installer will be back tomorrow to install the dishwasher. Perfect synchronization! And a beautiful job! Beau would not charge me for the three hour service call, which was way beyond what he had contracted to do, but I insisted on paying for the red oak flooring. Royal Oak is the only floor company I will consider in the future.

I had earlier sanded a number of the rooms myself and done a terrible job. The Royal Oak crew was able to get rid of the gouges and 'ocean waves' and delivered a great looking house for our upcoming sale.

They were great. I liked everything about them. The workers were reliable and trustworthy. I left them alone in the house because I had to go to work and they locked up everything. They were very reasonably priced, always punctual, and very professional. My floors are great; I love them.

Everything went extremely well. Beau came out and checked out the floors. He gave me his estimate, then matched a competitor's estimate. The work began the week before we moved in, and was completed on time and right on budget. We could not have asked for an easier experience.

Bo and his son were super to work with! They were responsive, always available, on time, and did exactly what they said they'd do and more! The crew were great, very trustworthy, and helped get all my furniture in and out of the house to make room for re-doing the floors. Royal Oaks not only did an amazing job, on time and on budget, but they were also among the best bids I received. I would definitely recommend them to all looking to redo their hardwood floors.

I tend to wait before writing a review to see how the product and installation hold up over time. Now that 6 months have come and gone, all I can say is "Royal Oak is Simply Awesome!" Beau is a gem, he really means what he says and says what he means! At first it all seemed to good to be true, but here it is nearly 6 months later and my floors and stairwell look amazing! Beau stands behind his work during and after the job is complete. I haven't had the need to call him in for any repairs, but no doubt, he would come through as he always does! The quality, care, professionalism, attention to detail and of course Beau himself make Royal Oak the best choice you can make. I give Royal Oak two enthusiastic thumbs up!!

Overall, this was a positive experience. I really appreciated Beau coming over personally to do the estimate and providing a lot of details. We had used another woodfloor company that we found prior to using Angie's list . . . .HUGE MISTAKE!! There were a lot of issues with the installation (cupping, gaps, etc.) and Beau patiently recommended some fixes and his son later gave estimates on how to fix them. We'll likely use them in the future to do this repair work. The actual repair they performed this time around was done well. They showed up on time, did great work, and 2 months later the fix is still holding and looking good. This was a key safety hazard and we are happy to have completed it. The price was higher than I wanted to pay but the quality made me glad that I did. We will definitely be using this company going forward.

Shawn Pillar came out and inspected out floors. He had a very complete understanding of what needed to be done.They planned to do all the sanding and nailing and getting the floor ready to stain in 2 days then start the staining and the final coats of Poly. However the floors needed more work than expected and they stayed late into the night to complete the job and stay on schedule.We then picked a dark stain and Shawn was very helpful in staining samples and working with us on the color.Once the stain went on the entire house smelled horrible., Even though they use water based products , the house smelled so bad we tried to go to a hotel. They should have told us how bad this would be so we could have planned to stay at a hotel for a day or two.After staining the floors they put on all the coats of Poly and they looked great.HOWEVERthere are several places where the wood floor buckled and its very noticable. Shawn called me the very night they were finishing, to tell me he was concerned about the places that were buckling. Shawn was very up front and up standing with regards to this problem.We are very happy with the job they did, the floors look fantastic.However there are three or four places where the planks come together and the floor buckles up. These places look horrible.Shawn told me , that first night that in the spring when the weather was dryer, he would come back out and refinish those sections to be smooth again. He is committed to redoing those sections. Would have these sections buckled up , from ANYONE resanding our floors ??? Shawn tells me yes, would happen to anyone. I tend to agree wth him, but of course can;t know for sure. I do know, he is committed to coming back out and redoing those sections, not sure if anyone else would do that too.

It was a great experience with Beau and his son and other installers. First, they were so helpful and patient in helping us decide on the exact color we were looking for, allowing us to take home as many samples as we needed. They were perfectly prompt for every meeting. When old, but usable hardwood was discovered under carpet in one room, Beau promptly reduced the cost of the entire job. When a few pieces of furniture were placed in a slightly different place, Beau sent workers over to reposition. There were a few tricky areas transitioning from room to room and Beau figured out some excellent and professional solutions. It all looks beautiful and has refreshed our whole home! I heartily recommend them for any flooring jobs.

Our home went thru a near complete remodel beginning late spring until early fall. We met with Beau at his office on the weekend-what a great guy! After several visits and quotes we decided Royal Oak was the way to go-and we were not disappointed. His crew removed the old carpeting and prepped and installed flooring and molding. Afterwards, they put ram board down, as we had alot of other work that needed to be done (painting, etc.). They came by late September and removed the ram board. The install was done in the heat of July. They helped my wife move all the furniture back and even came out later to remove some floorboards to install the new dishwasher (then reinstalled the new flooring). Since we have moved in, we have enjoyed the new flooring and get tons of compliments from visitors. It looks fabulous!

Overall the experience was a very smooth and pleasant experience.

Moved all furniture. Removed old carpet and Installed 500 sf hardwood flooring in 3 1/2 days. Cleaned up and moved furniture back and dusted. Great Job.
