I explained that the 40'x9' container would take everything. I had used that size container in previous trips. We fixed the cost $9,600 door-door. Container arrived but was hauled off when 75% was loaded. Next day a small van arrived but could take only 75% - secondary load. A demand was made to pay an additional $3,725 to move the vanful - EXTORTION. Other items were left behind with extra moving cost - value - about $1,000 and the dumping charge was $160. Container arrived in Ireland after one month and was unloaded showing much damage inside. Secondary load arrived almost 5 months later with two open pallets - inviting everyone to help themselves. No wonder that there were losses and damages. Cost of moving both shipments from docks to house was: $2,940. Losses and damages for both shipments were $4,213. Refund of extortion: $3,725. Moving the items left behind to some dump: $1,160. Total demand: $11,930. Responsible: Ron Davis and Sean Walberg - the crooks. The Los Angeles County offered to mediate this situation but Davis and Wahlberg refused. Before I agreed to a contract, I explained to Ron Davis and Sean Wahlberg of LibertyRemoval.net, 18375 Ventura Blvd, No. 113, Tarzana, CA 91356, Tel 877 745 3020. that I had crossed the Atlantic many times with the same possessions and there would be plenty of space in the 40' long and 9' high cube container, when a light platform is placed over the car and goods stacked on it. The day the container arrived in Santa Rosa I was still packing my goods and four men were moving them into the container. I was too busy to monitor the packing of the container. When about 90% of the goods were in the container I heard shouts from outside that they were going home. I ran out and discovered that the container was moving away. They deliberately left about 10% of my possessions at the house with the intention of using them for extortion. It seems that they have been very successful at that game. Next day I complained and they sent a van to pick up the rest to make a second shipment. The van was far too small to take the remainder, so much had to be left behind. We had agreed on a $9,600 contract to move everything door-door. The day after the container left, a broken-language foreigner called Azi who helped to pack the container the previous day, came to the house and demanded that I pay an additional $3,725 to move the vanful. Of course I had to pay. I helped him pack the van and he drove away. This was indeed extortion. I estimate that my complete loss was about $12,000. For weeks before the movers came, I was carefully preparing my very good quality furniture for the journey. I bought many sheets of 1/4" hardboard, which is excellent for protecting important surfaces. I placed the sheet on top of a table, or other piece of furniture, and ran a pencil around the table or other object. Then I used a small saw to cut around the pencil line and I placed the hardboard on top of the table, or whatever, and then wrapped the piece completely with strong 3-ply wrapping paper and then taped it up well. Later the movers took the pieces out of the house and into the container and many of them were stripped by the brain-dead movers and then wrapped with very thin transparent plastic sheet, which gave virtually no protection to furniture. This was the work of idiots. When the container arrived in Wicklow Town and the door was opened, the scene was awful. They movers had placed some packed boxes upside down or sideways, even if upward arrows were clearly marked on the boxes. They used thin plastic rope to contain them and keep them from falling on my car which was in the rear of the container, next to the door. Containers have double doors at the rear end and no other. The plastic rope they criss-crossed from one wall to the other and it was tied to bars in the sidewalls of the container. However, to show their incompetence, the knots were very poorly made and the rope was elastic enough to stretch substantially. This was not a place to use such ropes. The elasticity and too small a diameter allowed the ropes to bulge out over the car and fortunately nothing fell on the car. However, the bulging of the ropes over the car left a wide space behind the ropes and boxes and other items fell right down through the huge hole left by the stretching ropes. Many items were smashed at that time. After the filled up van left, goods worth about $1,000 remained in the garage and I had to pay $160 to have them removed. I want compensation for that $1,160. I had a flight booked from SFO to Dublin for the day after the container left but, because of the extortion tactics, I had to cancel it and lost about $300 in the process. I arrived in Dublin early in November 2010. The container was shipped to Dublin, Ireland and was emptied into a house ready to receive it. Taking the container from the Dublin docks and unloading into my residence, about 25 miles away, cost ?1,250 = $1,750. Among other items wrecked or damaged in the container were a computer, a dent in a refrigerator, broken glasses, etc. The items that were removed by the van were those things that I had needed the most to feel comfortable and I had no word about them for months afterwards. I was given excuses "It's on its way - 3 or 4 more weeks to go." Finally, after almost five months of waiting, the second shipment arrived. It comprised two pallets and a few 2x4s held together with a few partly drawn nails with many items missing or damaged - tables were gouged, some chairs were smashed, and a microwave oven was wrecked. One half of a large mahogany table top and a mahogany insert for a smaller table, and many other things were missing, Much care and craftsmanship will be needed to restore them. This second shipment had almost all of the things I normally used every day, like a coffee grinder, steamer, microwave oven, computer, tables, chairs, china, etc. The cost of moving this shipment to Wicklow Town and then, on a smaller truck, to my house cost ?528.4 = $739.76. The pallets were much like a skeleton. Above the floor of each of the 2 pallets was a sparse structure of 2"x4" pieces nailed together and the nails were often partially pulled out. There was no plywood to hide the contents from passers by and undoubtedly many items were stolen from there for that reason. Two of my large packing boxes were opened, looted, dumped and replaced by two cheap packing boxes that were repacked with paper carrying a Hawaiian stamp, which I had never seen before. There was far more packing paper in those two boxes than in the previous two, suggesting that many items were stolen. The pallets had to be transferred from a large truck, because of their height, to a smaller one and brought to the house. I personally dismantled the pallets and took all the goods into the house. The poorly made pallets and the dreadful packing added to the existing damage. This was one huge careless mess. I also believe I should be compensated for having to put up with about five months of living in a less than desirable state and Davis and Wahlberg should be forced to refund to me and pay the court and/or police costs, if necessary. It is now certain that some of the missing goods have been stolen from the open pallet, or kept by the packers themselves, and I had made a list of most of these items. I was asked by Ron Davis for photos of the problems and I told him the truth. I had never photographed my possessions and I had made more than six crossings of the Atlantic with no serious damages whatever and certainly no theft. Those were the honest packers, and he and his company were the exact opposite - thieves. Items below are not mine but came with the second shipment: 1 A shopping bag with many CDs, other personal items and a piece of paper with a few names. I sent an email to one of them - no response, and tried to phone the other - a dead line. 2 A trolley bag (the kind with an extending handle and 2 wheels) - filled with female related items. 3 A large sculpted or cast dragon about 30" long and too long to fit into the standard packing box, so the top of the box bulged up a few inches. 4 Two heavy metal bedrails. Each of the two bags contained a car key, which makes me suspect the Tarzana crooks. The two women involved probably had moved on somewhere else. The same company gave me what they claimed as "insurance" for the goods. Recently I looked at the insurance contract and it seemed odd. The insurance company's address was missing. The name of the company they gave was Atlas Insurances Ltd. The "Ltd" in a company name means "limited company" but that seems more like British company names. The word Corp is more usual in USA. There is an AtlasInsurances.com in Hawaii and I contacted them to see if there is any connection but I received no response but I still suspect that the insurance was a fake. This is the essence of the problem and I hope that you can help me to get out of this mess. The Los Angeles county offered to mediate the situation but LibertyRemoval refused. Thank you for reading this and I would greatly appreciate some help to put the crooks behind bars, banning them from moving services in the future, and refunding my losses. I have recently found an AARP article by Ron Burley "Beware of Moving Company Scams." An extract: "Help may be available even if you've already crossed paths with a rogue mover. Mayflower and United Van Lines have launched a program called MoveRescue aimed at helping victims of disreputable movers. Information can be found at moverescue.org."
Description of Work: They helped me move from California to Ireland.
