Description of Work: I bought a deal for about $59 to diagnose what was causing the circuit serving the main bathroom to go out. They came out on a rainy day and ruled out some possibilities. Because of the rain they came back a couple of days later to try to figure it out. I had to pay an additional $100. They looked at the breaker box and said that water was leaking through it from a poor seal of a stand pipe on the roof which housed the line to the electrical pole. This line had been installed by an electrician who had done the electrical work for my solar power installation. This electrician said it was dangerous to work under the house without having the leak addressed. Since this done by another electrician, I decided to contact them to repair their mistake. I was satisfied that El Electric had found the problem. | |However when the other electrician came out, he showed me that no water was leaking through the panel and that the leaking water was the result of a leaking water line that was below the panel. I subsequently got the water lined repaired by a plumber and the electrical problem diagnosed and repaired by another electrician. | |The end result was that El Electric had misdiagnosed the problem, which was somewhat understandable. They did add some value by ruling out possibilities. I am not seeking any remedies. They are honest, but I would not use them again.

Description of Work: Installed a switch and dimmer in kitchen, provided wiring for future cabinet and task lighting installation. Completion of this project was satisfactory, except that a cheap contractor-grade dimmer was installed before I had a chance to notice. This was the wrong sort of dimmer for a high-end kitchen, and I had to pay another electrician a week later to replace this cheap dimmer with one of better quality. | |I also asked the technician to check out 4 decorative wrought iron exterior lanterns (equipped with photosensors) and try to figure out why they worked sporadically or not at all. He told me that my 4-yr-old lanterns needed to be replaced because they "didn't work". He offered to remove them but I stopped him and told him that the job was now finished and I would pay him for his time to that point. A week later, a different electrician explained that the photosensors can become corrupted from humidity and weather, and that simply by removing the photosensors he could get the lights working again. He removed the sensors and the lights instantly worked perfectly. Using timers, I get the same results as with the photosensors. If I'd listened to the advice of El Electric's technician, I would have wasted a lot of money removing and replacing perfectly good lanterns.

So their initial work was good and punctual, but the quality wasn't there and they didnt' stand behind their work.

Description of Work: I am the resident manager of the property and I can truthfully say that Josh and EL Electric were great - in fact I regarded their honesty, professionalism, expertise, etc., so strongly I recommended them where I work a number of years ago and they are still our electricians at my office. Our property has been taken over by a new owner who brought in a management company that now uses their own people and honestly, I'd give anything if they used EL because the guy they have is not reliable, doesn't show up when he's supposed to and his work is sub-par. Nothing like EL Electric. One thing about EL Electric stands out in my mind - there was one weekend when we had an electrical problem with a hard wired smoke detector, we could not disconnect it as the off button wasn't working and I did not want to touch any wires so I called EL --- Josh sent someone out within less than 45 minutes and he disconnected it and installed a new one. It took less than 30 minutes for it to be done - and Josh did NOT charge us for the call...!!!! I had a similar problem where I work and one thing I can attest to is that he's that kind of guy - responsive. I will say his prices were a bit higher but in the long run - it's worth it - you get what you pay for!! I would recommend EL Electric 100% and only wish our management company would use him.
