Dealing with AGA was good. The estimator arrived on time & did not try to up sell me. Their bid was very good compared to other places but did not include permit fees (nor did other estimates). When I asked how much permits would cost or an estimate of costs based on past projects, they suggested I contact the city. So I spent time trying to figure that out which took time since I have my own business to run. Ultimately, I learned a family member owned a business which could provide the pool demolition service for me so I used my family's connection. Had I not learned of the connection, I would have used AGA.
Description of Work: I asked aga to come out and bid on filling in an empty pool with dirt and removing the pool machinery.

Elan only came over for an estimate and then a few follow up conversations. He was professional and timely throughout.
Description of Work: Elan came over to look at some water intrusion issues. He seemed knowledgeable and professional. Elan and his company were very consistent throughout the process, they followed up with emails explaining their work and the cost of the work. We ultimately decided for a less comprehensive but less expensive solution.

They were great. The estimate was free. I have worked with them in 2008 when they did the remodeling of our house. I have had good experiences with them. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

The original estimate of $12,500 expanded a little bit, but for reasonable causes. The work crews were respectful, quick, and cleaned up well after themselves. The key to achieving great results was to stay in touch, and be observant a few times per day to make sure everything was according to my tastes. Other than that, the foreman and his men were self sufficient and did not need to bother me for many details -- they just knew what to do and how to do it. The whole series of updates occurred over a period of about two weeks (or less). Everything was done efficiently and expertly. Where I did have any questions or minor complaints, Ilan was extremely attentive to my satisfaction in all stages of the job, and in the finished product. He made sure that everything was completely to my satisfaction, and sent his guys out one more day just to take care of a few things I wanted slightly adjusted, including my last minute decision to change the paint color in the kitchen. He was completely reasonable in his estimates and in the way he performed his work.
Description of Work: Tore out old carpet and parquet flooring in living room; installed travertine flooring; replaced base trim and crown moulding in living room; added can lighting to living room ceiling; installed overhead light in dinette area; repainted living room interior; repainted kitchen; repainted pantry; updated electrical outlets and circuit wiring; patched exterior stucco and repainted entire exterior of house.

AGA worked with me and my budget to get just what I needed. They are extremely professional and most importantly, good listeners. They rarely use the word "no" - when other companies wouldn't even talk to me once they heard the budget. On top of that, they do great work. I'm very pleased...

The job was done quickly. The work was excellent. This is the third time I have used AGA. The secretary Tammi is very helpful. She can be reached by phone and Email. Alon the project manager is very responsive. The workers are courteous and responsive. They leave the work area clean each evening. I was most pleased by the restoration that was done on weather beaten oak window frames. It was craftsmenship.
Description of Work: Painted three bedrooms, closets, hall and two bathrooms. Installed four windows. Relocated closet light. Refurbished two exterior oak windows.Removed and reinstalled 6 inch oak base borads. Installed new guides and rollers for three pocked doors.

Overall it went pretty well. Main intent of the remodel was to remove load bearing wall and gut bathroom. Pace of work was relatively slow primarily due to inspector issues. Perhaps Roy, the project manager, could have done a little more due diligence in working with the city, although in their defense the city was rather pathetic in how the city set up inspections. Demo started initially with a new beam installed pretty quickly. After that work slowed to a crawl as the inspector issues cropped up. Since no one was present during inspections, silly issues prevented work to continue without follow up inspections (inspector did not provide window when he would show). In general high quality construction materials were used, 3/4 inch copper in bathroom to the shower valve, 5/8 sheet rock, 10 and 12 guage lines for electric runs, etc. Initial contract was 25000, I was naive trying to save money by shouldering some work myself, I ended adding 7200 in stuff (recessed lighting, painting, ceiling replacement and insulation, etc). I could have probably saved some money had I included this in the initial contract. Last minute upgrade to electrical panel was required, Ilan quoted me what I think is an extremely fair price, but it was a necessary upgrade. The only setback was that I had a peculiar floor installed (bamboo floor) which requires 18 guage staples to be properly installed, however 16 guage cleats were used instead, and where they cut a hole for beam, they used wrong thickness plywood to repair hole so there is a dimple there (floor guys did not realize the plywood board was temporary and didnt notice level was different). They warrantied the floor if it fails due to installation and they offered to fix dimple, however that would have made big delays as it required pulling up a lot of floor a we didn't want to deal with this as we wanted to finish. The floor looked very nice anyway. It was not always clear what was included in the contract, this was an issue only in the change order, but resolved satisfactorily. Would definitely use them again for work i don't/can't do myself. Subs were great and honest and very professional.
Description of Work: Had a load bearing wall removed, a non load bearing wall moved, full gutted bathroom remodel (shower sink and toilet all moved), partial kitchen remodel (no cabinets). Performed kitchen demo installed wood floorig in living room kitchen, added 220V line for oven, and sheetrocked and painted rooms as necessary. Cieling was entirely redone, (following partial ceiling collapse), added recess lighting in kitchen and living room and insulation for main floor. Replaced exterior sliding door with new sliding door. Upgraded electrical panel 100V to 200V (required due to 220 addition). Sealed in exterior door, framing and stucco.. All work was done permitted. Cost includes labor and general construction supplies, does not include bathroom fixtures (tub, vanity, hardware, toilet), floors (tile and wood), door.

Once again, the job went very well. The job actually went faster than the Kitchen remodel, which is exceptional considering the fact that a lot of complaints on Angie's List discuss how contractors tend to slow down on large projects. Once again, I give credit to Ilan, the project manager. He was always fair and was always ready to deal with issues when they came up (although I must say this project went very smoothly... I can't even think of any problems). Thanks!
Description of Work: After being satisfied with a Kitchen remodel, I had them remodel my 3/4 master bathroom: ceramic floors, glass shower, complex tile work in the shower, new cabinets/countertops, drywall, electrical and some minor framing. Although the bathroom was small, I have pretty high standards and used high-quality materials.

Every subcontractor who worked on the kitchen did an excellent job. I dont' think any AGA employees did any work on the project, but the subs were great. I definitely got the kitchen that I wanted. The work area and my garage were kept clean and organized throughout the entire project. The job went as smoothly as any major construction project could be expected to. All of my calls and e-mails were returned promptly. Tami, the office manager, does a great job of keeping communications moving along. The work did take longer than expected--partly due to scheduling conflicts on my end, and some I think were due to scheduling conflicts on AGA's end. There were also some delays while we were waiting for the permits to be signed off. Getting the very last bits of work took awhile, but for 98% of the work, everyone showed up on on the day they were scheduled and on time. The results of the work were absolutely worth the several extra weeks of wrap up time. I will be very happy with this kitchen for many years.
Description of Work: Remodeled kitchen in townhouse--work was done from the drywall in, and no plumbing or gas lines were moved. There were upgrades to the electrical outlets and the old flourescent fixtures were replaced with recessed cans. All of the flooring, cabinets and counters were replaced. Cost does not include appliances.

We had a big mess to repair. Our home had a big roof leak, and we couldn't find the source. We actually had at least three licensed contractors give up. AGA rep was late to appointment, once there was always on the phone. Could not or was unwilling to give even appx price for addition, asked for a $ 5000.00 just to start the process. I'm not a contractor but that seem alittle out of line. NO price just give me $ 5000.00 and then I'll tell you how much. I will never call AGA again, more over I work the entertainment industry if anf body ask for a contractor I would tell them to go any where else but AGA. Hope this report is posted and no one else gets treated this was by AGA

We apologize that you had a bad experience with our company. As you can see from our previous reports and hundreds of satisfied customers we are a professional company and our main focus is customer satisfaction. Our representative explained that a second story addition can vary from project to project and explained that we couldn’t give even a ballpark until there are professional plans made for this addition. We therefore asked him if he wanted us to refer him to an engineer that we work with and we estimated that it will cost him $5000 to get a set of plans made. What the customer is saying is true, we were unable to give him a ballpark, but that is only because we didn’t want to give him a price and then have a major change in price after plans are made. In other cases when we have enough information to determine a ballpark price, it is our policy to share that information with the customer. We believe that this is a professional work ethic and have never had any complaints in the past. In regards to the complaint that our representative was on the phone all the time, we checked with him and he may have answered a phone call or two, but he never answers the phone unless it is urgent and even then asks forgiveness from the customer. We apologize if the customer felt that he didn’t get the attention he deserves. We treat all of our customers in a professional manner and take all of the necessary steps in order to make sure our customers are satisfied. We are sorry that you did not have a good experience with our company.

Ilan came out to examine the property and give a ball park estimate. He made some great suggestions and gave me a general estimate that was within our budget. Later, we added a few other home improvement items and Ilan gave us a more detailed estimate that seemed reasonable for the jobs. Roy oversaw the project and communicated very well about various stages of the project. Since there were technical aspects of the home theater that I needed to figure out as we went along, it was great to feel that Roy was not pushy and or dismissive about my process. The job took about a week longer than had originally been planned mainly due to a special order window and some unexpected work that needed to be done to the floor near the front door. Since they did not have a lot of room in our yard to work, they did make a bit of a mess as time went on but I did not see a great way around it. As the work progressed, various items came up that some contractors might have tried to add to the original estimate but Ilan was very professional and only added items which I had authorized as enhancements to the original agreement. The craftsmanship was excellent and I watched how detailed they were with much of their work (especially framing, drywalling and painting). I would definitely use them again for other home improvement projects.
Description of Work: We had a garage that had been converted into a recording room (sound booth, etc). The booth took up about 1/2 the room and we wanted to open the room up and make a home theater. AGA tore out the booth, build a 16'x3' wall where we could store the equipment, mount speakers, and hang a screen. All of the work was overseen by Roy and done by subcontractors. The demo was fairly quick (1 day). Then they began framing for the new wall. They re-used doors that had been apart of the recording booth. An electrician ran cabling from the new wall to where the projector and surround speakers would be installed as well as adding additional power. They also installed recessed lighting in the main room. After the dry wall was completed, they painted the room and later laid down new carpet. Finally, they framed out a space for a new, sound-proofed window and re-stucco'd and re-painted the exterior wall after the window installation was complete. In addition to the theater, they also installed a new front door, two new interior bedroom doors, some additional shelves for a kitchen cabinet and a new window for a bathroom.

The job went very well. I compare this experience to a bathroom remodel a few years ago and the difference is night and day. We owe a lot of this to the project manager and his great communication skills. He really put in the effort to understand what we want and make it happen. When issues arose, we were always able to quickly talk through them and they always turned out right. In fact, I have already signed a change order to have him do our bathroom and paint our house. ...and all this for a great price!
Description of Work: I had a complete kitchen remodel: new floors, cabinets and ceiling as well as reframing several walls, reinforcing the ceiling/foundation to remove a load-bearing wall, upgrading the electrical service to my house, replacing two exterior doors, moving an exterior window and refinishing the hardwood floors in my living room.

Although only a relatively small job, it was handled promptly and efficiently by the project coordinator, Ilan Harir, and Tami, the office manager. They kept in touch with me throughout the process resulting in a speedy solution to my extremely urgent problem. I would highly recommend this company in the light of my experience and will certainly utilize their services again.
Description of Work: My carport was damaged by a third party who accidentally reversed his truck into one of the supports, threatening the collapse of the entire structure. Realizing that the situation was critical, I consulted Angie's list and contacted several construction companies in the area. A.G.A. of Tarzana, CA were the first to respond and they promptly sent a representative to assess the damage. Even though this was an insurance job (through the responsible party's auto policy) Ilan Harir of A.G.A. immediately scheduled the work and the necessary repairs were effected speedily and to a high standard, thus avoiding what potentially could have been a far more serious situation.

When I purchased my house, it was clear that there was a water intrusion issue on the balcony connected with poor construction of an exterior bar. Most of the contractors I talked with refused to consider doing the work or made obscenely high bids of $30,000+. The foreman from AGA, Roy Assa, came out to look at the house. He identified a much less expensive way to prevent the water intrusion from progressing, and within three days he provided a detailed quote of under $10,000 for replacing the damaged parts of the balcony. I agreed to have AGA do the work, and within a week Roy had already obtained two bids for the scaffolding and had the scaffolding installed. The work progressed extremely quickly and efficiently. When we removed the bar and discovered that the damage was more extensive, Roy immediately suggested some inexpensive ways to address the damage. I preferred a more comprehensive solution, and Roy provided a very reasonable quote of about $2,500 for removing and replacing the stucco on the damaged part of the house. The workers were at my house almost every single day for the 3-week duration of the project. They were polite and efficient; they cleaned up every day when they left; and the quality of the work was high. Roy also agreed to do some additional painting at a minimal cost to finish up the job. There were a few minor issues connected with the electrical work (due to some strange wiring in the house) and re-hanging a screen door; Roy sent the electrician and handyman back to fix the problems promptly at no cost. All in all, my experience with AGA was extremely positive. Roy is straightforward, honest, communicative, and effective. I appreciate that he was interested in finding a cost-effective solution to my problems instead of trying to gouge me like other contractors (even some highly rated on AL!). Roy even discouraged me from doing additional work that he thought was unnecessary. I definitely hope to use AGA for the second phase of this project.
Description of Work: Demolition of exterior bar, balcony floor, and stucco. Replacement of stucco. Rebuilding of exterior bar. Retiling of balcony floor. Repainting and staining of cabinets, trim, and structural members. Installation of drip edge. Replacement of exterior outlets with GFCIs.

He was very cool and really great. I didn't end up using him but the guy was very willing to work with my work schedule to meet with me. He came by my place a couple of times. I ended up having to take a lower bid because he was a little too expensive. I believe that he would have done a great job, but I ended up going with another company that was able to underbid him a little bit. It was about 20-25 percent lower. That is the only reason I didn't go with him and if I had a little bit more money, I would have used him. He was very responsive to phone calls and inquiries.

They came out as advertised; an individual looked at the problem, and explained what needed to be done, how it would work, and how much it would cost. I interviewed several construction companies based on Angie's List credentials, and after completion of the process, based on their ratings on Angie's List, as well as the conversations with Ilan, I chose AGA Construction for a major house remodel. I’ll start by saying, I am now in my second major construction project with AGA, since December 2009, and could not be happier with all aspects of their performance, professionalism and care taken with the jobs I hired them to do. Both Ilan and Roy are available to guide your project and their contractors through the construction labyrinth. The initial project, I had my kitchen completely remodeled, and converted a back porch to a new bathroom. The rooms were demolished down to the 2x4’s and rebuilt to my specifications and style. Roy will call you daily and usually stop by with updates as needed, and to make sure the project is moving forward, and Ilan will make sure you get what he promised. Under the banner of “knowledge is power”, the more thorough the research you do before starting any project, the easier it will be to keep the costs under control. I learned a lot during the first phase of the job, that being “things change” as you remove old parts of the house, upgrades and fixes become necessary, things you would never imagined, examples on my project, moving the electrical sub panel that was hidden in a closet, upgrading the plumbing to copper (that I imagined, but was hoping not to have to do, but in the end made sense), knowing your responsible for supplying plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, toilets etc. unless you specify with them to supply for your project. So do your homework. Another thing to remember that construction is a dirty and messy job no matter how big or small, so expect to be somewhat inconvenienced by the mess that is made, but keep in mind it all cleans up nicely when it’s over. Now in the second phase of my project, I am remodeling the master bathroom, again down to the 2x4’s and starting from scratch. Painting the entire house exterior and replacing the entire cooling/heating system in my house. So far things are on track, and again Ilan has delivered on his promises, and Roy is on top of the project and all is moving forward. I could go on, but for now I’ll just say, without a doubt I would HIGHLY recommend AGA construction and their personnel for your construction project, big or small. I have already handed their information out to several friends, so get going before they get booked up!!

They did what they said they would do, at the times and prices agreed upon - and that says a ton! My original plan was to change out the countertop and appliances only, but Ilan convinced me that the old floor needed replacing as well... and it's now my favorite part of the re-do in the kitchen. I ordered the appliances before the holidays, and they were delivered in early January - then the guys got busy. They removed the old countertop and made a template for the new CeasarStone. After that was installed, the old tile floor was removed, and the tile guys installed the backsplash and the floor - extremely well done (and I've done a few myself): everything is "square, plumb and level"! Then the appliances were installed (cost of about $9000 for the appliances is included in the amount spent), all of the dust was cleaned up and the old stuff was carted away.
Description of Work: They removed the old floor, countertop, backsplash, cooktop, oven and hood and replaced them.

They followed through. If I asked a question I got the answer and they would call me up to make sure I understood the answer and ask if I needed more information. The girl who runs the office does most of the contacting, she is great. The guys who came out were very professional, but they were very expensive which is why I didn't go with them.

He was good. I thought we had mold under the house and my wife thought she smelt some. I think we had a little leak and mold is bad. He came out and got the instruments to check for mold. He crawled under the house, but couldn't find any mold. He found where it might have been, but there wasn't any. He did a great job. He sent me a document with all that he had done and what he had charged. I don't remember what the cost was, but he told me ahead of time what the price would be. We have to get rid of the mold or else we can't sell the house.
Description of Work: David of AGA Construction came out a couple of years ago for a mold inspection.
