AGA was clean, organized and I was impressed with their attention to detail (woodworking). AGA was very generous with changes that were made during construction and helpful in resolving design/structural issues. It wasn't until the sealer was applied incorrectly, that we had some issues. It took AGA some time to resolve the problem.
Description of Work: We had AGA remove and remodel our wood deck. They removed the existing decking (reused and added to the supports) added a concrete pad for a spa and enlarged the overall deck. They were clean, organized and I was impressed with the attention to detail. AGA was very generous with changes that were made during the construction and helpful in resolving design/structural concerns. It wasn't until the sealer was applied that we had some issues. After the initial sealer was applied incorrectly, it took some time for AGA to resolve the problem.

Everything went well until the sealer was mistakenly applied. It took some time to wash the sealer and in order not to make the same mistake we had to do some research in order to correctly apply the sealer. During the construction process problems are likely to occur. Our goal is to make sure there are as little problems as possible, and when problems do arise we make sure to fix them correctly and professionally. We do not leave our customers until they are 100% satisfied with the project. In this case it took us some time in order not to make the same mistake and the customer was very satisfied with the outcome. When this sort of case occurs, we make sure to learn and ensure it doesn't happen again in the future.

They did a wonderful job. And it was fast. My roof were done in one day. My front porch tends to flood when it rains. They came up with a good solution by adding a cement strip that directs the water to a sump pump (because everything is up hill from my front porch.) The porch roof was in bad shape. They salvaged what they could and replaced the rotted parts. Instead of replacing my large window and two smaller ones on the back of my living room, AGA replaced it with an energy efficient sliding door, built a patio off the living room with a nice closet on the patio to house my washer/dryer. My bathroom pipes were on the outside of my house. AGA moved them inside the wall, fixed a leak that I didn't know I had and did a nice job finishing with the stucco.
Description of Work: Front porch - Repaired/replaced porch structure. Improved drainage from porch (use to flood when it rained). Added cement culvert with sump pump. Installed sliding glass door in place of picture windows. Created a cement patio with cover. Added a laundry closet to patio. Put pipes to bathroom inside of wall. Roofed house and separate garage.

Overall, the entire process was easy for us, because AGA Construction and our construction manager Ilan, did a great job on the new garage. From the beginning, the best part was that this company was very responsive and quick to get back to me. I had inquired on a couple other companies at the same time, but I never got the responsiveness from them that I got from AGA Construction. To me this was very important, because aside from doing a good job, it would have been an unpleasant experience if I couldn't get in touch with whoever was doing the work for us. So, I was off to a good start, and Ilan was always here when he said he would be, and everything I asked of him and any questions I had were answered promptly. I also liked that Ilan took the time I needed to get to know him before any contract or work was done. He sat down and gave me a chance to know him, so that I could really trust him to do the work and do it well. Once I decided to go with AGA Construction, Ilan went over the entire process and explained what needed to be done and how it will be done. If there were things that couldn't technically be done as I had hoped, he gave me other solutions and suggestions to do the work as close to what I had in mind. Throughout most of the entire process, things were done on time and as planned. We did have some price changes and delays along the way, but that was inevitable for any construction process, and these were due to problems with outside suppliers that we ordered parts/products from. Any price increases/changes were due to actual pricing of ordered products and parts, such as lights, doors, etc, which were all notified to me and approved by me before being ordered. Any delays were due to the supplier we ordered our doors from, as they were being very unresponsive and in result affecting the actual work to be done. Although it wasn't AGA's fault, Ilan always explained the situation to me and apologized even though it wasn't his responsibility. If I had any issues, he was always understanding, and overall the work was done exactly how we wanted it to be, and it was a pleasant experience as well. If there was something, no matter how small, that we wanted done over or fixed, it was done. Now we have a beautiful, working garage that everyone visiting our house compliments us on. Also, Tami, who handled all the phone calls at the office and emails for invoices, receipts, etc, is also so prompt and nice. She always sounded like she was in a good mood, which can be difficult working with and talking to so many different people/customers/companies everyday. No matter what I called her about, she was quick to help and easy to talk to, and honestly this also made the entire process of working with AGA that much more pleasant!
Description of Work: We needed to completely rebuild our garage, as the previous owners had used the space as a recording studio with heavy soundproof walls, etc. We wanted a open, working garage space that we could actually use, but in order to do so we had to totally break down the old garage and build a new one from scratch due to the bad condition the old garage was in. After deciding to work with AGA Construction, they were responsible for the whole garage buildup from start to finish. They took care of everything from having an engineer come by, getting the plans for the garage prepared, and even getting the plans approved by the city. They were then responsible for demolishing the old garage as well as a small fountain and some trees and bushes that were in the way, and then they hauled away all of the debris and trash from the demolition. After that, of course they poured new concrete floors, made new frames, and built up a brand new garage. In doing this project, they also had to redo some of the tiling around the garage to match the rest of the backyard tiles, and they also had to move the pool equipment (pipes, switches) from the side to the back of the garage. They also had to order a new A/C unit and install it in a new location of the garage and applied epoxy on the flooring to make it shiny. All of the wiring for new lights were done, installation of the new lights were done, and outlets were made in specific locations as required. Also, they had to order a specific glass garage door and install it, as well as ordering a glass 3 section bi-fold sliding door and installing it. Lastly, they were also responsible for painting both the interior and exterior of the new garage.

If you are looking for excellent work and excellent service, then this is your company. Ilan and his crews turned our shabby 1950's kitchen into a showplace in nine short weeks. My mother, age 90, decided she needed a new kitchen but had very little idea what it was going to look like. Ilan's great sense of style and space were invaluable. He helped us choose all the materials and closely supervised all the work to make sure it was done perfectly. He suggested removing part of a wall to open up the space, and the difference that made to the look of the kitchen is amazing. We are BEYOND pleased with the results. In fact, we were so happy with the work done by this company that we had them replace the roof, rewire the whole house, and put in all new windows, among many other things. All of the workers were friendly, hard-working and respectful of our home, keeping the noise and dirt to a minimum. Ilan was outstanding in monitoring the project. He either stopped by the house or called us every day to discuss the progress. He told us what each service was going to cost and held to the price even though additional work was sometimes needed. As I read some of the other reviews of this company, Ilan's honesty is apparent. If your project is not a good match with his company, he will be up-front about telling you, and I respect him for that. We have had a wonderful experience with AGA Construction, and we will definitely use them again for future projects.
Description of Work: The original project was to renovate an old kitchen, including replacing the cabinets, countertops, and floor. We were so pleased with the work that we expanded the project to include renovating part of a bathroom and laundry room, replacing the roof, rewiring the house, and replacing all of the windows. We also added gutters to the roof, added new baseboards in four rooms, and painted the front of the house as well as four rooms.

I wrote to them this list of many things that needed to be done: tile, cabinets, sink, counters , paint, wallpaper removal, electrical, plumbing, and lighting. But it was not enough for them to even consider doing the work. Was nice of them to write and tell me so.

We were provided a list of items for the partial kitchen remodel and based on the location of the property and the items she wanted to have done, we calculated that it wasn’t something we could help her with and that it would be more cost efficient for her to hire someone closer her. We have our customers best interest in mind and do not want to cheat anyone, so we were up front and honest with her. We wish her the best of luck on her project.

The experience went very well. AGA came over within a day to provide a realistic estimate. We actually took a couple weeks to decide on a contractor, so we did go through many estimates and "salesmen". We felt our contact at AGA was very straight forward and honest with us on what to expect during the construction, and what the finished product would look like.Additional Pros: Construction crew showed up everyday on time, worked dilligently AGA worked with us to pick out the perfect tiles and fixtures They were willing to work through a major holiday to thoroughly wrap up the project Did a great job with the clean up We have an infant, and the crew did its best to ensure a clean environment at all times Dealt with fussy annoying neighbors in a very professional manner Cons (if any): Project ran 2 weeks late, but I think some of it had to do with coordinating with the city for the inspection. It would have been very nice if we had more transparency/communication with AGA project management to know what to expect daily with construction. (We have an infant, and it would have been ideal to coordinate hotel stays with some of the more intense construction periods).

AGA Construction appeared to be a very professional company, from the little that I heard and saw. They were responsive on the phone and their Project Coordinator, Ilan Hrir, was experienced in the problems at hand (painting and construction). They provided a clean and thorough proposal of the work to be done. They did so in an email. However, their proposal was much more than I could afford so I used another company to do similar (lesser) work.
Description of Work: I spoke by phone to a very pleasant female at Aga Construction, (818) 996-7575. She set up an appointment date quickly for me and their representative showed up at my door, on time. The Project Coordinator, Ilan Hrir, took photos of my property and measured the peremeter. He had a firm handshake and promissed to get a proposal to me in a reasonable amount of time. He assured me that they would use Dunn Edwards paint if I wanted.

Guess our job wasn't big enough for them. We of course found a great company to do our work. As it turns out, it rained a couple of weeks later and we had leaks in 3 different areas. So, we added a roof replacement and repair and 2 window replacements to the job.
Description of Work: The man came in, looked around, mumbled something about "that's all you want done?" "Small job." Told me they would e-mail me the estimate. I knew he wasn't going to do so because they didn't have my email address. I never heard from them again.

We were mislead about the scope of work, we were told that the project would entail a lot more. When the project manager met with her, he explained to her that the project is too small for our company. We did not promise her an estimate. We are glad she got the work taken care of.

If anyone tells you they had no problems when remodeling their house with a contractor I would not trust their opinion. The true measure of a contractor is when a problem does occur they acknowledge the problem and get it fixed without trying to say it would be a change order costing you more money or argue with you about what you don't think was done right. When I saw something I didn't like done a certain way or I thought was wrong Ilan would always come out to look and then fix it to my satisfaction. The second big test is when you decide to add some additional work to your job the contractor does not gouge you for the additonal work. There were about 8 change orders for additional work I wanted done. I never felt the quotes I got from Ilan for the additional work I wanted done were unreasonable. The third measure is can you get ahold of your contractor easly. If for some reason Ilan did not pick up his phone and I left a message I would get a call back within the hour. A great comfort with AGA is Tami who is in the office. If for some reason I could not get Ilan on the phone I could always get Tami who would then try to get a answer to my question or issue.
Description of Work: Stucco, windows and doors removed on two sides of our house to the studs. Replaced 2x4 front room stud walls with 2x6 stud walls. New front room concrete footing. Removed exposed front porch entry to build enclosed front entry with a new spanish tile roof over the front of the whole house. Lath & plaster walls/ceilings removed from the front room and second bedroom. Replaced with 1" thick walls consisting of 1/2" plywood screwed onto the studs and covered by 1/2" screwed in drywall. Framed and installed french doors to the new covered walkway where a window had been in the bedroom. Framed and installed a single french door in the second bedroom to the new covered walkway where a window had been. Fireplace removed Wood floor removed and replaced with a new wood floor throughout the house except for the kitchen. Built a 50 foot covered tiled walkway on one side of the house with a spanish tile roof. Built a new front entry walkway(tiled) to the driveway gate. Replaced all electrical in the rebuilt areas. Gutted 75% of the bathroom to build a new tiled tub/shower, floor, toilet. Also new two sink stone countertop. Interior of house completely repainted except for kitchen. Since I wanted a Santa Barbara(smooth) type stucco finish on the outside of the house that would not crack too much they added a extra step of embedding a special mesh membrane in one of the stucco coats before the final smooth coat(It's working!). They also were able to match the color of the stucco to the existing stucco color. During the construction the wind storm that caused damage throughout LA blew down half of our perimeter stained redwood fence which was embedded in a block wall. The insurance company came out to look(they took pictures) and said I needed to get a written bid for repair but would not say how much they were willing to pay. They would run the bids I got through their software program and then let me know if it was acceptable. I had Ilan give me a written bid to fix it which I gave to the insurance company. The insurance company approved the price and sent me a check the next week. Even though the fence work was over $5,000 I did not have to get a second bid which means they thought Ilan's bid was reasonable for the work to be done.

In summary, AGA is honest, reliable, and they do good work. In my other experiences with contractors, you're lucky if you get even one of the three. I recommend them highly. I previously used AGA to perform substantial repairs to a covered balcony, including rebuilding the bar, retiling the floor and the bar, and addressing a water intrusion problem. The project I'm reviewing is a continuation of the first. For the first phase, I interviewed several contractors---all of whom were rated highly on Angie's List---but I was very dissatisfied with their service. The other contractors acted like they were doing me a favor just to talk with me, and they failed to provide reasonable bids for the project. One contractor provided a good bid, but he kept postponing the tentative start date until I had to fire him. In contrast, AGA provided a competitive bid quickly when I contacted them. The project manager, Roy, suggested several ways to save money. When a change order arose, he was apologetic, and offered a very competitive price for the additional work. The workers were respectful and considerate, and the project was finished quickly. For the second phase of this project, AGA provided a fair bid for a substantial amount of work. The contractor, Ilan, was helpful, reliable, and efficient. He was always concerned with doing the job right, even though it extended the length of the project by several weeks. In particular, we didn't realize that we needed new foundations when we started, so we had to redesign one of the decks. The price of the change order was fair, and the new design of the decks is far safer and more attractive than it was before. AGA also took care of a lot of minor things without me asking. The new decks turned out very well. I really appreciate the quality of the construction. It's a pleasure to work with a contractor who is honest and reliable. Ultimately, the price was very reasonable for the size of the project.
Description of Work: The project involved demolishing and rebuilding two decks that are elevated over the hillside behind my house. Their engineer provided an assessment and recommendations about the project. AGA Construction demolished the two old wooden decks. They dug and poured new foundations. One deck was rebuilt from scratch. The other deck was partially integrated into the structure of the house; for this deck, they replaced the support posts where the house was cantilevered over the hill, they added new joists, and they installed stucco underneath the cantilever. For both decks, they installed new PVC decking, painted iron railings, and redwood trellises to cover the decks. The two decks total about 250 square feet. In addition, they painted all the wood in the decks, as well as all the stucco on the back of the house. They repaired damaged stucco on the side of the house. They replaced several rain gutters. They demolished the cover on an old spa and filled it with gravel. They also performed some other small projects that came up during the construction.

The quality of the work was good and the workers were great. Tami, at the office, was super! She is very responsive and helpful. The only challenge I had with them was Ilan, the project manager. We were discussion additional work that needed to be done and it was very frustration working with him because he wouldn't give me prices. He kept telling me my job was small and that he needed to make some money. He kept asking what I though was fair for him to make and what I though was a fair price. I am not a contractor and I have no idea what is fair, I simply wanted to know what their price would be. I thought everyone else was great. They worked around my roofer, who had to come and fix the actual leak, and were very patient about the delays the roofer caused. I am not sure that I would use them again though, because Ilan appears to feel that my small jobs are money losers and I would rather work with someone that wants the work.

When we met the customer, she explained to Ilan that no company wanted to take on the job because it was too small. It was too small of a job for our company as well, but Ilan wanted to help her out, so we decided to take on the job at a very fair and reasonable price. When we started the work, and opened the wall there were unforeseen issues. We had to charge her extra because of the extra work that needed to be done. Overall the job went very smoothly and we believed the customer was satisfied. Ilan ran the project and made sure everything was done right and up to her approval. We are sorry that the customer felt this way and we spoke to Ilan to make sure no customer feels this way about the project or prices again.

AGA was punctual for their appointment, but after a couple of weeks, we called them asking about the written estimate. We finally got a one page "estimate," but it wasn't detailed enough for our insurance company or for us to rely on for doing the actual repair -- the description of materials and the description of the work to be performed was superficial at best.

We understand where the client is coming from, but our estimates and the guidelines of insurance companies estimates are very different. Insurance companies use a special program for estimating that most construction companies do not use. Once the construction company submits the estimate there needs to be a negotiation between the client and their insurance company. We did our best to help the customer as much as we could and we are sorry to see that we were unable to. We wish them good luck with the Insurance company and with the project.

UPDATE: Since posting my initial feedback AGA contacted me and insisted on coming back to re-do any work that I was not satisfied with at their cost. I was apprehensive at first since I didn't really want to turn my house back into a construction site with plaster, drywall, and painting, etc.. but they insisted that everything would be covered and they would clean up after they left. This time they sent their "A Team" and to their credit everything was very well prepared and they did a great job cleaning up after themselves. I am not sure I would highly recommend them. It was just the finished work wasn't real good and they got 80 percent there on a lot of the drywall and stuff and then it kind of stopped. So it is a lot of uneven patching kind of stuff done and then it was always the usual contractor stuff, chasing them down.

The job went well. Whenever there was a problem, they were willing to take the time to get it right. This was most evident when it came to one of the last parts, the hardwood floor. For some reason the subcontractor they initially used did a bad job and the smell would not go away. AGA was willing to come back and redo the entire floor with a new sub. This made things right. I highly recommend AGA for the fact that they are honest and straightforward and will get the job done right.
Description of Work: AGA did a small addition at the front entrance of our house, as well as some remodeling in the adjoining spaces. This involved pouring new foundation, tying it into the old, removing old walls, adding new ones, drywall, windows, built-in bookcases, doors, hardwood floor and trim.

The sale consultant (I don't remember his name), showed up on time and I directed him to the bathroom, he had nothing on him, no note pad, nothing. I gave him an outline of what I was looking for/thinking about he supplied zero input and told me I would have to get all the supplies from Home Depot. He kept stating we don't do this, and then he said it would cost about 13K for labor. He then stated he would forward me an estimate, in a few days (it never came). As a point of reference, I have just contracted another Angie's list provider who came with a computer gave me a 3D rendering, went into great detail, will be doing the complete job (including fixtures, etc) for about 15K.
Description of Work: I had scheduled this company to give me an estimate and ideas about what to do about a complete master bath remodel.

We met with the client and discussed his plans for the bathroom remodel. It was a simple bathroom remodel, we explained to him everything that would be done and how we would go about the project. We told him that he would be getting the estimate by the end of the week. We were surprised to see such a review, as we went over everything in the meeting. We wish him the best of luck on his project.

They did really good work. He mislead me a few times about how he approach the job. I asked him if he had a crew or if he was a one-man job. He just sent one guy out. He told me it would take 2 weeks, it ended up taking about two months. The tenant said he did a really good job.
Description of Work: He painted my house and put in new carpet.

We were very surprised to see this report since the quality of the job has been great and the major work was completed on time. There was a technical issue that needed to be taken care of, we tried for months (and are still trying) to reach the owner or tenant, but to no avail. There were never any complaints about the quality or time in which it took to finish. Until today there are still two shelves that need to be installed and an open balance left on the project, but there is no response from either the tenant or the owner. Maybe through this report they can try to reach us and the project can be completed.

AGA Construction Inc I am still using them. Started using them in 2010. They came out and gave an estimate New roof, paint all outside, a new front door, new back door, and a new garage door. New gutters, it was a big job. Very professional, and knowledgeable. They were very easy to get along with, and not pushy. They cleaned up everything. Office staff is excellent. They call back, when you call them.
Description of Work: AGA Construction Inc Is doing work on the outside of the house. New roof. trim around the house, new front door, paint the outside. Was here a couple months ago. It costs 30,000 to 40,000.

The process went very well and they were very flexible with the timing. I was on a fixed budget and limited time frame when I took over an old optometry office. The decor looked like it was from the 1970's and needed a major face lift. As a new business owner, I was on a very tough budget and was able to work with AGA construction and get the job done. They made the appropriate suggestions/recommendations to help with providing the appropriate feel that I wanted convey in the office. Since I did not have an interior designer, they provided guidance in terms of what would go best in terms of the crown moulding, floor coloring, wall coloring and it worked out well. It was a great experience working with AGA construction. The estimates were taken 2 weeks prior to our renovation process and it was projected that the renovations would take only 2 weeks. It ended up being 3 weeks, because of some unforseen structural problems, but overall was done professionally and quickly. The painting crew and flooring group did fantastic work with all the installations and carpeting. The flooring and LED lights are amazing! I still have a few rooms that need to be done and am looking to get them back to finish the job soon!
Description of Work: Removing flooring Changing doors and installing moulding for doors and windows Sanding and clear coat of ceiling Installing electrical outlets Installing LED lighting with dimmer options Installing TV outlet Installing bamboo flooring Removal of old counter tops Installing Granite Countertops Renovating restroom Installation Pedestal Sink, removal old sink Changing tiles. Painting and water damage repair.

We are very pleased with their work. There were some issues during the project (as there are in any construction work) such as some items could not be installed where we wanted them to be, or sometimes there was misunderstanding between us and the workers but we are extremely impressed with Ilan's effort to make things right, and make us happy. We spent just a little more than we expected but overall, the bathroom came out nice thanks to AGA. Now the bathroom is done, we are talking to Ilan again about finishing up the rest of the house.

They came in and gave an honest (and accurate) estimate to do all the work we needed. Two weeks after we signed up, they arrived and put up plastic sheeting to reduce the spread of dust throughout the house. Over the next two weeks, they demoed the whole bathroom and rebuilt it back into a beautiful tiled affair with a pedastal sink and jacuzzi tub. There was one unexpected cost in the whole process (my toilet needed to be moved 5 inches, per Building Code). The change order for this was exceedingly reasonable.
Description of Work: AGA tore a small full bathroom down to the studs, tiled, drywalled, painted, and installed a tub, shower door and sink plus additional plumbing and electrical work.

We met with Ilan and Eitan initially at the end of 2010, and they were a pleasure to work with. The first meeting was a ballpark estimate as we were still interviewing several companies. During the second meeting, they created a working layout of the proposed kitchen while we spoke, and were able to give us a complete estimate that remained accurate throughout the remodeling process (except for agreed upon increases for change orders, of course). Ilan was involved throughout, with daily calls to go over the latest work and how I felt things were moving along. Tami was always an e-mail away for quick questions or things that I wanted to make sure were brought to their attention in cases where I couldn't make a phone call (at work). They stayed on schedule, except for a few hiccups mostly due to uncontrollable events (city of Whittier permit delays, etc.). We were even able to coordinate work in our back yard on days where my dog would not interfere with the workers. Overall I was very satisfied with everything and would work with Ilan, Eitan and the rest of A.G.A. Construction in the future.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled kitchen, replacing cabinets with new custom cabinets, installing granite countertops, travertine floors, installing new appliances, replacing a bay window with a sliding glass door, new recessed lighting, etc.
