Universal Automatic Gates

Description of Work: Universal Gates installed a steel driveway gate and fencing for me in 2010 and at that time I had no complaints about their work. They gave reasonable price quotes, were punctual and did decent workmanship, although they left some holes in the driveway where they had drilled for the gate braces. I called them back in November 2011 to see if they could add some fencing along the side of my property. I was told by Fabian that he would give an estimate but it required several follow up phone calls before he finally showed up. The price he quoted was almost double what I would have expected and his response was that the price of materials had gone up and he needed to up his prices. When I asked him if he could possibly lower the price a bit he stated that he would go over his paperwork and get back to me. He never bothered to call back. I decided to go with another company who had been recommended to me by a subscriber from Angie's list and they quoted me a price that was about 40% less than what Universal Gates had wanted to charge. Needless to say, I will never do business with Universal Gates again. It's too bad because they did a decent job the first time and I don't know why it went downhill like this.

Description of Work: we wanted a sensor installed so the gate wouldn't hit a car that got too close. we were referred to Fabian and Universal Gate by the seller of the house we had just bought. we mistakenly believed he was the same person who had installed the gate. Fabian came pretty quickly and put in a sensor. shortly thereafter,whenever it rained,the gate would make a continuous and loud beeping sound and stopped working. we had to go into the electric panel and manually turn it off and open the gate each time it rained. fabian came but couldn't figure out what was wrong or what the fix was. this happened as many times as it rained, countless it seemed this past winter. the seller of the house said the gate had never malfunctioned like that. the obvious conclusion being that whatever work was done on the gate had caused something. finally it comes out that Fabian was not the original installer! we get the name of the people who did install the gate--Scotland Entry--they come right away and do something that comepltely fixes the rain/beeping issue and we have not had one problem with the rain causing it to stop working since they came to fix it. the sensor now is not working--Fabian reminds us that he disconnected it so we can pinpoint the problem. so we ask him to please come back and re-connect the sensor so it works. no, he can't. and now no response. summary: we pay him around $1000 to help program remotes and install a sensor. the gate then stops working each time it rains. he can't figure out why this is happening. we cal lthe original installer and pay them--they fix it immediately. now we ask fabian to come back and re-connect what he dis-connected. can't get him on the phone. we would HIGHLY recommend Scotland Entry--they are really great--the guy who came,names escapesme,was exceptional really--he called us few days after coming just to make sure all was in order etc.

Description of Work: Repaired a window bar fire safety egress system for a rental property.
