Dave's Remodeling Inc - Bay Area

We had originally used them a year ago with one of the specials where they would do a 3D design of a kitchen remodel. That part of it was good and we used them as a general contractor and they were awful. Over the course of the time that we've used them, their reviews were consistently going downhill on Angie's List listing. They subcontracted out and luckily the person we got as a subcontractor who did the physical labor was very good. But as an umbrella contractor, they are shady. They demand money before the work is completed. They are just a lower quality organization than we were hoping for. They were very mediocre. Even if the sub doing the work wanted to make it correct, as the umbrella contractor, Dave's Remodeling didn't want to spend the time and money to make it correct. We had numerous disagreements with them about that. They did not do the job correctly to begin with.

Kitchen designer came, looked at kitchen, promised a design (which was part of the service) but never delivered the design.

The drawing was wonderful. However the cost was way above my budget and once I told him that, he began to try to reduce the price and see what he could do. When I finally said no "thank you" he got upset.

After 3-4 weeks, I received a call from Dave's Remodeling telling me that their designer had fallen ill and was not able to complete the 3-D design rendering. Apparently, there is only one person on staff to do this work. I was told that they were very sorry that they could not complete the work, but if I contacted Angies List, they had made an arrangement with them that we could get a full refund of our money since we did not receive the product we purchased. Today, I called Angie's list and spoke with a customer service representative and a supervisor. I was told that since the 30 day time period had passed, I could not receive a refund on a Big Deal offer. The 30 day period (first I ever heard about this) actually expired before we even had the opportunit to meet with the vendor for the consultation. Angie's List apparently feels that it is my problem to try to get a refund and my only course of action is to fill out this complaint with a grade of C or less for the vendor. In truth, I am more unhappy with Angie's List than I am with the vendor, as they are making their problem, my problem. I paid Angie's List. I did not pay the vendor directly. I did not receive the product I paid for. Angie's List should be responsible for brokering my refund, which Dave's Remodeling told me they would do. Apparently, the vendor is also not clear on the refund policies. I am completing this review in hopes that Angie's List will follow through on a bad vendor review to expedite my refund. Bottome line - use your vouchers right way and don't expect Angie's List to help you if the vendor flakes on you.

We placed this order, told them that we were not available until after the 5th of July, I called 2 times and never received a call back. What do I need to do to get a refund?

He showed up in his own car, not a company car. He didn't even have an email address, he was using his wife's personal email. He was very personable but we felt that this behavior and his presentation lacked professionalism.

I had to reschedule the appointment because the representative did not show for the initial appointment. After rescheduling the gentleman arrived and we reviewed options and preferences. The representative was polite, listened to my preferences, took measurements and then he told me the design would be sent to me in approximately two to four weeks then I could follow-up with the representative if I had any questions. After 4 weeks I contacted the company through Angie's List and later talked to the primary business contact ( Lizeth Sanchez) via phone. I was told they had a miscommunication and that it would take 8 weeks to get my 3D rendering. I purchased the service on May 12 as an Angie's List Deal for $45 each for a kitchen and bath redesign for a total of $98.00. I contacted the company again and asked that if they could not provide my computer design rendering then I wanted my money refunded. I was told they would process the refund.....again! Nothing! I will never do business with this company again and recommend others to avoid them!

Sales representative came on time and gave us a high level quote for remodeling. He was polite and knowledgeable. The 3D renderings were emailed to us later - they weren't very useful really. I can say that the Angie's list deal is not worth it. Can't really say about Dave's remodeling, since we didn't get any work done.

Woman was very argumentative. I did not receive her email and thought they were non responsive. She then asked me to explain what I thought their offer meant. Really? Didn't they define it in the ad? I didn't realize they were rated a C. I would never deal with any company rated a C because that's what we know about. What about the people who don't review?

The person that we had contact with, Liz, was very helpful and very nice. She did a great job with helping us schedule and work it out initially.

Hello there, I signed up for this Big Deal because the description led me to believe I would receive at least $100 worth of design services for $49. The '3-D rendering' was the main motivation as I'd like how my bathroom would look before I start the construction process. I trusted Angie's list would not ensure there was some design service value in the 'Big Deal'. The sales experience was adequate. The appointment was scheduled within a reasonable time frame. The companies representative showed up about 30 minutes late . . not a big deal. He was professional. Given how many concurrent jobs he told me he's working on as well as the number of phone calls he took while he was here, along with his decent communication skills, I think he'd be OK to work with. He works as a project manager for Dave's company; he is not a designer. 'Design Services' was limited to plugging in a few dimensions to a generic i Pad design app. The pictures had nothing to do with my bathroom. The didn't show effects of material choices. They didn't show the effects of dimensional changes, all the pictures look the same. The 'renderings' show nothing of value. Then the rep pulled out pictures of related jobs to show credibility. He said he'd e-mail me quotations and a copy of the 'renderings'. I have received nothing to date. Basically, I was deceived into paying $49 for a contractor to make a sales call at my house. Every one of the previous deals I've purchased have been a good value. I expected the same with Dave's. I would like my money back as this visit offered no real design service. I'm also asking Angie's list to remove this deal because there is no value in the offering. All the homeowners in my neighborhood would feel the same way. Service was rendered, but the same service would be received with any free initial consultation with a licensed contractor.

It IS a new bathroom. He explained that moving the pipes and rearranging was going to cost us a lot of money and that we wouldn't get much out of it. After measuring the room, and the layout we determined that even putting in a slighter larger sink would require so much work it wouldn't be worth doing. He was really up front about it to me. He told me that we had a nice bathroom, as it sits. And he is right. The 3D design aspect of it never really came into play. It was worth the $49 to just get someone to explain to us what it would entail to move everything around in there. Now that we know the deal, I think we might look at retiling it more to our liking at some day in the future.

This is not really a designer, but rather a contractor looking for business. It make sense since it is a low price. In the end, you'll get an approximate cost of the "labor" remodel. Unfortunately, nothing is written down. You won't know exactly what the real price since you'll have to look for all the material. For me, it felt like a good starting point, but I still felt I need to investigate more. I don't want to do a design on a napkins for such a big spending.

The work is supposed to be for $500 but frankly, my hubby and I felt that the experience wasn't worth $500. The designer came and didn't seem to realize we bought the package from Angie's List so kept pushing for us on picking them to do the renovation work soon. My husband said that the designer sounded like he won't even bother making the design if we don't sign with them at that time. BTW, I did mention to the appointment person that we're not sure when we're doing the work, maybe 6 months or one year down the road. I had just wanted a 3D design first to capture what I have in my mind. I also emailed them before purchasing the package to see if they include measurements in the design, they said it will but it didn't. During the session, I was trying to ask questions to see if we can put a double oven or a corner pantry but he seemed to not listen to me properly and repeatedly assured me that he will do a really nice design for me. After over a month of the meeting, we got three pictures from different angles. It's in a PDF form, and with the heading, "Hi there this is tom from Dave's remodeling please confirm" and there was no further explanations in the email except the three pictures. What was I supposed to confirm? Since this already took so long and the pictures were underwhelming, I didn't even bother replying to them. There wasn't the double oven or microwave shelf in the design as per my request. It was okay but didn't really captured what I was thinking in my head. I think I have to find another designer that is willing to really hear what I want and give me real ideas and input.

The scheduling process was fine. Representative arrived promptly, listened to our needs and took measurements. He warned us that he was really busy and it would take 2 1/2 wks to return with 3D design that we paid for. We are at 3+ wks and couting. I messaged the company for status but have not heard back yet. Stay tuned.

We contact Dave's Remodeling to get an estimate for our bathroom remodel. We got visit by Tom Muller, who right away ask us about our ideas for the bathroom, once we explain what we wanted to see in our bathroom he gave us couple options and worked the budget we had as well as the timing to get the remodel done. We got a discount of $500 in our contract and felt comfortable to start the work, since we had over a year thinking to do it and getting estimates here and there we felt it was time to do it. They work efficiently and work around the original idea he had for our bathroom, even though it took an extra week of work, we felt very satisfied with the results.

The service was not that great. I made the purchase, I scheduled the appointment, came out on the date and time that was scheduled so that was no problem. The gentleman who came out promised the rendering of kitchen drawings. Basically, it was $49 for them to come out and do a 3D drawing of what your kitchen would look like and I expect they would follow up with the bid for the work. That's exactly what I expected. He came out and said we'll have the drawing in a week. In the second week I called, they said it takes two weeks. I called them again on the third week. It took them a couple of days short of a month and the only reason they responded was I said I'll write a review on Angie's List. Sure enough I got a couple of drawings sent rapidly. Frankly, they were wholly unimpressive and underwhelming. It seem it was done quickly without any real thought in an effort to meet the obligation sending the 3D drawings. My personal experience was very negative. The initial meeting was fine, but the overall product delivery and customer service was poor. I certainly wouldn't recommend them.

It didn't and we want our money back. See review above. Rep didn't come as expected first appointment. Then we were told they couldn't come for follow up. Very disappointing.

The agent that came was very focused on having the clients sign the contract. The man had not even taken measurements of the kitchen and bathroom when he was pressuring us to sign a contract. They called back asking again about signing the contract after they left, I requested to see the designs and they said they'd get back with me within 15 to 30 days. I still have not heard anything 35 days later. It was a very negative experience for us, I strongly suspect that we have yet to see anything because the measurements were never taken.

.He was a good guy and it looked like his work was going to be good. The only thing is his bid was too high.

Joe and Ben from Dave's remodeling came to my home to go through the work needed. I came late for the appointment but still they were waiting there patiently. They went through each and every work that i wanted to be done. Then we discussed about the budget. Based on my budget Joe and Ben suggested that they can start with bathroom remodel as that is must and they will cover whatever they can within the wish list. They even suggested that some of the improvements that i was asking is for cosmetic and for the amount of money i may spent i won't get that much return. They are very open and frank. They are also very accommodating. Some of the late changes i told them they made it without any additional charges. The work is almost complete and the home looks awesome now. All the through the project they have been updating me on the progress. They came to my home to show me the materials and for selecting the correct material. I would suggest them for anyone and I will definitely use them for all future projects.

The service was horrible. We just got the designs yesterday, and there were pictures, but there was no message in the email, and I thought it was an artist friend of mine. I didn't know what it was about. It was only $49 Dollars . I am going to see how they respond, but with that kind of service, I would never actually hire them to do any work. They came out early March, and I just got the design. They were using an IPAD App to do the design, and I could have done that. The things that we talked about when they came out to look at kitchen, were not in the design, plus they have the stove in the master bedroom. It was just not what we talked about at all. The 2 guys who came out to look at the kitchen, were very charming, but that was the end of the service. I had to call and nag them for the design. They were on time for the appointment, but they weren't on time with the deliverables. It was just a paid sales call.

Came out for appointment on 2/14 explained what I was looking for. I provided a layout I made of the area for reference. They told me I should have something within a week. I contacted them again on 3/17 for an update they told me an additional week contacted again on 3/24 to see what the status was. Received 3d visuals on 3/26 but they were lacking elements we discussed very basic I could have done with any web based layout program. Called them said this is not what we had discussed went back and forth tried to upsell a kitchen designer to me but didn't know the rates and never got back to me.

It went pretty poorly. The project manager, Ben, came out and I walked him through the many projects we were hoping to get going. We are planning on doing the work in spurts as the money becomes available but wanted to know all possible costs up front so we can pick and choose which projects to take on first. As I moved from the outside to inside projects and began telling Ben of our intentions, the interest in our projects waned. And to get rid of me, Ben suddenly told me they only worked on projects starting at $3,000. That is something you cannot find in any of their literature or company descriptions. I knew at that point he just didn't want to deal with us working on one or two project at a time. It felt like we weren't rich enough to keep them interested in working with us. That was pretty crappy, let me tell you. The amount of work will total well over $10,000 in the end but I guess that's not good enough for them. Anyway, we are very disappointed in the experience.

It turned out fine. We were looking for some options and we got those options from them. We decided not to move forward at this time. There was no delay in getting with us once we purchased the deal.
