They did a wonderful job and they were very nice to work with. The workmen they sent were very accommodating and their salesman had great suggestions. They cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend them.

The salesperson, Craig, came out to our house and on another occasion met us at their two showrooms. He was very knowledgeable, and had creative ideas in regard to the design and problem solving. He demonstrated patience with our decision making process which we appreciated as this was a large sum of money that we were investing in our home. We choose Pacific Pavingstone/Outdoor Living after receiving a total of five estimates because they do beautiful work as demonstrated by previous projects, expertise, honesty, and a fair price (they were not the least nor most expensive). They do not subcontract the work which was also an important criteria for us. The crew was amazing...punctual, friendly, professional and expert. Their work exceeded our expectations, and absolutely love how it looks.
Description of Work: We had a old, cracked asphalt driveway that is fairly long, a small patio area, and the adjacent side of the house. We also had drainage issues that needed to be addressed. New asphalt was out of the question and poured concrete just will crack with time. Concrete estimates were about the same as having pavers installed. We were walked through the estimate and design with Craig Kelsay. We had all these areas paved with Olsen Concrete Pavers in Tan/Brown in a 90 degree herring bone pattern. They also tied in a number of our gutter downspouts and ran a line to the curb. The crew arrived over a 7 day period on time everyday. At the end of each day, the crew cleaned the site thoroughly. They demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and creativity every step of the way. We are thrilled with the finished project, and plan to have them back to make our backyard beautiful. We have received numerous compliments on the end result, and this has added value to our home.

This job was a little complicated in that to reach the walkway and patio it was necessary to either come up some stairs or go over a wall. Worse, existing concrete and bricks had to be removed and carted away. While it added a little to the cost it certainly did not daunt the crew. Demolition was completed in one day with the entire job completed in four. The foreman on the job accommodated a small change I requested and even made a suggestion which clearly improved the layout. Careful attention was paid to the slope of the drain line and pavers. The final wash down confirmed near perfect drainage. I am absolutely delighted with the completed job and its professional installation. I would not hesitate to recommend Pacific Pavingstone and their crews to any prospective customer.

The crew did an outstanding job. The company was professional. The communication was great. The price competitive. The quality is outstanding. We have other work planned for the front and back yards. We look forward to using them again.
Description of Work: Recently purchased a new home in Claremont, CA. Feature of the home was an interior courtyard but builder left unfinished for homeowner customization. Our courtyard was left as dirt. Checked Angie's List and contacted Pacific Pavingstone. Consultant came out and gave good estimate and provided sample layouts. Signed contract and they started the job the following week.

The job went incredibly well. The staff at all levels was professional and helpful, facilitating everything I asked for. They cleaned up everyday even washing down the street so dust would not blow up with passing cars. The workmanship is terrific. This is one of those experiences you can only hope for in today's busy times. It was so nice to have virtually no complaints what-so-ever.
Description of Work: Took up old asphalt driveway and installed 2,500 square feet of concrete pavers. They also removed three step areas, installed cinder block and put bull-nose pavers on the landings of each. I would rate my job as an 8 in difficulty on a scale of 1-10.

We started with an estimate for redoing a deck in the backyard, and decided to use another company for that because they were more full service, but at the same time we got an estimate for doing the driveway. Michael was very prompt and comprehensive in providing the estimate and we decided to proceed. They scheduled the work in advance and Emerson and Joaquin and their crews did demolition (and recycling) in a day and a half and completed the entire job in less than 2 weeks. They even did a few extras to make it look better. It included putting in a drain system and sump pump because the existing slope for the driveway was insufficient for surface drainage. Joaquin made sure to communicate fully at every step of the project. In doing the demolition they broke the main water line, and stayed for about 5 hours in the evening to do a temporary repair till they could get a plumber out the next day. Truly above and beyond!
Description of Work: We had a 2,500 square foot asphalt driveway and several concrete walkways. It was time to redo the driveway and we decided to consider paving stone instead of asphalt. We got an estimate from Pacific Paving (now Pacific Outdoor Living) and checked references and decided to proceed. We did a brick type pattern for both the driveway and the walkways.

This work went extremely well and it was due to the relationships that were developed in the beginning between the contractor, the city, and building ownership & management. Any issues that arose were always dealt with in a very positive manner and had a positive outcome. I was so pleased with this work that we had them complete the replacement of the driveway, patio and walkways at my house. This work was valued at approximately $20,000.00 and this work was completed in a timely manner and we were more than pleased with the outcome of the work. They work with you from start to finish and they were always in contact with me as to the progress of the work.
Description of Work: This is not a typo, the work they did was valued at approximately $250,000.00. I managed an office building and behind the building was an alley way that was in disrepair which measured approximately 30' wide x 200' in length. We initially hired the company to complete the repairs but as work started the repairs were more extensive than previously thought. We approached the company to see what alternatives were available and they came up with the interlocking paving stones. We ended up taking out the existing bricks and sub base and replaced the entire alley way with interlocking paving stones. The complexity of this job was very trying at times with having to deal with the city and the tenants of the office building, however, with the assistance of the company it went extremely well and was finished in a timely manner. With the amount of car and truck traffic that drives on this alley way each day, I have had no issues with the work (no broken bricks or any settling issues).

James came out the following Monday, May 19, and replaced the defective paver and gave me the Owner's Manual. He thought even though the pavers are faded, a sealant would help. When I asked how much that would cost he wasn't sure, maybe a $1.00 sq.ft. That would be $1722 on top of the $15,940 I had already spent on the interlocking pavers. I asked why this wasn't available or offered when I first had the work done and James said it was available but was not being offered by Pacific Pavingstone at that time. I argued that I shouldn't have to pay like that to correct something that could have been preventable. He said he would explain this to his Senior and see what he could do. He said he couldn't promise anything for sure, but would do his best for me. Then he proceeded to apply a solution to the walkway and porch (although there were no problems on the porch) and scrub with what appeared to be a wire broom. He extended the solution out and on to the driveway. It did bring back the color. However, the uneven area of the solution on the driveway is noticeably darker than the rest. I thought it would eventually fade and blend in, but it has not. He left saying again he would talk to his Senior about the cleaning and sealing and get back to me. James called me back the next day, Tuesday, May 20, and said his Senior told him there was nothing they could do. I asked if he explained everything to his Senior and that I wasn't even given the option of a sealer at time of installation. He said yes, but the Sr. still said they couldn't do anything. I asked for his Senior's name. He said no. I said again "I want your Senior's name." As he continued to resist, I said I wanted the name to put in my addendum report to Angie's List. He said it was company policy and he couldn't divulge his name. I said that didn't make any sense and that he was the one who made the decision. He admitted it and that he had not spoken to anyone else. He said even though they didn't offer sealant or have an Owner's Manual when I had my pavers installed, I should have researched it on my own. I said I did my research on Angie's List and based on that I chose Pacific Pavingstone. He did not know what solution I could use to clean the pavers but I should call the store to ask and also ask how much they would charge to do it. I had already made "my call" to P.P. on May 15. It was his responsibility as the Quality Control rep to either get the information or have someone knowledgeable call me. At this point I had had it. So much for the acclaimed Customer Service. I did try a recommendation in the Owner's Manual. I made a poultice of laundry detergent and cat litter and let it set overnight and brushed it with a wire broom in the morning. Absolutely nothing came off. Because of the length I knew I would have to go to explain this thoroughly, I just kept putting off reporting this to Angie's List. Just couldn't deal with it anymore.
Description of Work: In May 2007, Pacific Pavingstone installed interlocking pavers on my 1722 square foot driveway and did a beautiful job. I wrote a glowing report on November 19, 2007. Sometime in March or April of 2008 I received a message from Wendy stating they were offering a discount for a sealant for the pavers. I had never heard of a sealant so I checked their literature, press kit, DVD and my contract. No sealant mentioned. On May14, 2008 I visited the Pasadena Showcase House and spoke to their representative there re a landscaping consultation. I needed help with choosing plants, flowers and landscaping for my front and back yard. He said a landscape designer could come out and make a sketch of what plants and flowers go where for a charge of $75 an hour. I thought great. For a couple of hours I could get a landscape plan that I could start to work on. I needed to call Pacific Pavingstone anyway because of a defective paver and to ask about the pavers that appear faded and some that have large, faded or water mark spots in the center as well as long tire tread marks where the driveway curves. So I called the next day, May 15, 20008, and spoke to Colby in Quality Control. He agreed with me that some of what I described could have been caused by the heavy rains that winter and the sealant would have prevented the fading and the tire stains as was noted in the Owner's Manual that had just been printed and was not available when my pavers were installed. He would send out a Quality Control rep to look at the problem and to bring me an Owner's Manual.

We needed advice about the type & style of paving stones to use, so we went to the Pacific Outdoor Living showroom and talked to their designer. She really helped us to choose what looked best for our home. The demo was scary and extensive and was done quickly and cleanly with little collateral damage. We unearthed some unanticipated conditions under the driveway that required adjustments to the time schedule but the delay was unavoidable. The company adapted to the changed conditions and worked with whatever challenge presented itself. The result was a beautiful job. We are generally hands on types of people and continually asked questions about the work and how it was going throughout the project. They were polite and informative throughout. The follow up person, Marty, made sure that everything was to our satisfaction and told us to call him if there are any problems or questions in the future.
Description of Work: Removed existing driveway and adjoining walkway and installed new paving stone driveway, walkway, and garden path. Redesigned walkway and installed ground drains.

Best experience I've ever had with a contractor from salesman to final seal being placed on driveway. On a Wednesday evening, I sent an e-mail requesting to be contacted regarding my driveway project - the following morning I was contacted by Pacific Outdoor Living. A salesman then contacted me and said he could be in my area later that day. We met and agreed on the project and cost in an expedited timely fashion. On Friday, the scheduling team at Pacific Outdoor Living called me and scheduled work to begin the following Tuesday. On Tuesday, the subcontractor Busy Bee Pavers was on location @ 0630 and completed the agreed upon work plus worked through some additional unexpected work in the 4 days they told me it would take. My driveway was completed on Friday. Every worker seemed to take pride in their work - I was truly impressed. The final details and cleanup was handled on Saturday as opposed to the following Monday. I would highly recommend this company's services.

My initial meeting was with a design counsultant, Karen Meinhart. Because the property was a newly constructed house, the property was an empty slate (front and backyard). Karen's was not only knowledgable about hardscape design but well versed in horticulture. She was instrumental in getting the plan approved by my homeowner's association. As the project commenced, I found the crew to be professional, friendly, but most importantly hard working. I would often stop by the project and observed the entire crew diligently working (like ants). Overall, I was extremely impressed with the results of the project.
Description of Work: Our hardscape plan was designed by the company's consultant, Karen Meinhart. Karen's design included the demolition of the existing driveway, pilasters (front-yard), architectural shapes and patterns of the pavingstones, irrigation placement, and planting suggestions. The front-yard consisted of pilasters, stepping path, raised planter, as well as pavingstones throughout the driveway. The front driveway also included a circular pattern. The design also included pavingstones along the side of the house. The backyard consisted of a seating wall as well as pavinstones throughout. Additionally, the backyard included two intersecting circles. The entire project was completed in 7 days, as promised.

Our first meeting with Jeff Valerius for an estimate was pleasant and informative. My wife and I were surprised at the low price, relative to other companies. Once the date was set to start work, things moved quickly and efficiently. The crew leader, Edmilson, was always available to answer questions. Trash and debris were well contained. The only problem we had was when we realized that the colors we chose for the pavers didn't really match well with our house. Marty, the crew manager, came by that very day to discuss the issue. We worked out a solution right away and we were very happy with the final colors. We did have to pay a little extra money for the color change (returning some of the pavers and delivery cost for new pavers), but it was well worth it. The job was completed in about two weeks as promised. Pacific Pavingstone did a superb job.

When I contacted Pacific on line a representative called me the same day and set up an appointment for the following day. Chris, the sales rep, was very courteous and helpful in explaining about the whole process. He even left me a DVD that took me through the whole process so that I could understand what was happening. We set a date to start. Chip and his crew began work and were stopped by the City. I came to understand that Downey is one tough city to get work approved in. With the help of Marty and Chip we worked our way through all of the paper work required by the City. Marty was there to hold my hand and encourage me as this went on, Chip assured me that the job would be made a priority as soon as we had the proper permits. When we got everything cleared up Chip and Gary's crew began work. The guys were very hard working and kept the work site clean. Their commitment to craftmanship was amazing. The final result is beautiful. I highly recommend this company!

It went well from start to finish and we were very pleased with the conduct of the work crews, and supervisors. The total job was done within the time frame promised and no extra charges were made. The final looks and performance were better than we expected. Overall we are very satisfied with the our new driveway. We highly recommend this contractor for driveway renewal and concrete paving stone installation.
Description of Work: Driveway renewal: Replace old asphalt driveway with concrete paving stones. The area of the driveway is approximately 30 times 60 feet and slopes down from street to house about 6 feet. Three layers of thick blacktop asphalt had been applied since initial construction in 1950. The contractor's estimator came without delay for the job walk and gave a detailed estimate and helpful suggestions in selecting final design and material, i.e. the concrete paving stones and pattern ( herringbone). - The construction crews, both the demolition and installers were run by Chip Righter ( Contract # 882834; Tel. 909-728-1500), the pleasant, knowledgeable and trustworthy owner of Busy Bee Pavers. He authorized small improvements on the layout of the driveway boundaries suggested by my wife and the very good paving stone installers and their foreman Jose Cervantes without arguments. The job was done within the cost estimate and the time frame promised.

The crew didn't show up on the first scheduled day of work and didn't call. I had to call POL determine the status. I was told that a project manager would be on the job the first day, would introduce himself to me and provide contact information should I need assistance when he was not on the job site. That never happened. The crew left the site in a mess every day when they left. They left trash everywhere, including lunch trash and debris. On the second day of work, the crew goofed off most of the day, sat around on the driveway and the front porch, talked on their cell phones, were loud and raucous, used crude and vulgar language and only got to work after I called POL to complain. When they 'finished' the job, they left the job site in a complete mess. The work still has not been completed to my satisfaction, the company is unresponsive and I've been forced to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the State Contractors Licensing Board. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

THIS JOB WAS A SERIOUS VIOLATION OF OUR COMPANY POLICY AND STANDARDS, FOR WHICH THERE WAS NO EXCUSE. AT THE TIME WE WERE ATTEMPTING TO ESTABLISH A SUBCONTRACTOR PROGRAM TO COPE WITH INCREASING DEMAND IN OUTLYING PARTS OF OUR SERVICE AREA. THE SUBCONTRACTOR WAS FIRED AS SOON AS THE PROBLEMS ON THIS JOB CAME TO LIGHT, AND IS NOT PERMITTED TO WORK FOR US. WE THEN REVAMPED OUR CERTIFICATION PROCESS, WITH THE RESULT THAT ONLY ONE CONTRACTOR IS CURRENTLY QUALIFIED TO SUB FOR US. OUR QUALITY CONTROL SUPERVISOR MADE SEVERAL VISITS TO CORRECT PORTIONS OF THE JOB. A FINAL SECTION REQUIRED A LARGER CREW TO HANDLE. IT WAS FINALLY HANDLED, BUT AFTER TOO LONG A DELAY. THIS INCIDENT REVEALED HOLES IN OUR QUALITY CONTROL AND JOB TRACKING THAT ALLOWED THE ERRORS TO OCCUR, AND CAUSED A MISSED APPOINTMENT (WHICH ALONE CAUSED SHOCKWAVES IN THE COMPANY: WE *ALWAYS* KEEP APPOINTMENTS). THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED. THE CHANGES PLACE ANY JOB PROBLEM UNDER THE DIRECT SCRUTINY OF THE OWNERS, SO THAT NOTHING SIMILAR CAN HAPPEN TO ANY CUSTOMER IN THE FUTURE. WE HAVE COMPLETED ALL CORRECTIONS TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CUSTOMER. SHE HAS RECEIVED A PERSONAL APOLOGY FROM ONE OF THE OWNERS, WHICH SHE WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO ACCEPT, WISHING NO OTHER REMEDY THAN THAT THE JOB BE TAKEN TO A PROPER COMPLETION. SINCE OUR BEGINNING, IT HAS BEEN OUR MOST SENIOR POLICY NEVER TO LEAVE A JOB UNTIL THE CUSTOMER IS DELIGHTED. WE ARE DISTRESSED THAT THIS CUSTOMER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE, NO MATTER THAT IT IS NOW FIXED.

If installing hard scape can be a transcendent experience, this was it. The sales representative spent hours with us as we struggled to decide what we wanted. He came out at least twice, took detailed pictures and had two batches of sample stones delivered. The very day he came with the contract for us to sign, we'd received an advertising postcard from the company with a $500 coupon and he honored it on the spot. Both the demolition and installation crews were highly professional and nice as can be. The job was done beautifully and not a speck of dirt was left behind.

Exceptional work. Pacific Pavingstone exceeded our expectations in every area, from their sales person Mike Owen to their site foreman Gilberto and his incredible construction team. They're not merely great craftsmen, but artisans, creating flowing curved paths and decorative steps that would make Frank Lloyd Wright proud. Look no further in Southern California for the best pavingstone company. I got 2 other quotes: 1 from a well-known national mega-hardware store and 1 from another large So. Cal. paver company. Both estimates were over $10,000 more and included sad old school hard-selling techniques. Had none of that nonsense with Pacific. And on top of doing a great job, they've renewed my faith that there are good contractors out there, and it's well worth doing the research to find the great ones like these guys.
Description of Work: 2478 sq. ft. of residential paver stones covering all my hardscape: driveway, walkways, patio, and steps.

The entire process was trouble free with no surprises. They showed up when promised, made steady progress, cleaned up each day, met with me each day to discuss the days planned activities, and achieved a great looking result.
Description of Work: They replaced a small asphalt driveway with a large circular driveway and added a 300' long section to reach the backyard. They also replaced several walkways in the front yard. Work included excavation, grading, placement of sand/gravel base, placement of pavers with several patterns at various locations, placing sand in the joints, concrete under the edges, complete clean-up.

Description of Work: They installed a new driveway using paving stone, a lot like cobble stones but flat.
