Contacted Pacific Pavingstone because of their good rep/reports to add to an existing interlocking pavingstone job. I knew it was a small job and that I would pay of premium because of that. A representative (who said he would also do the work) called to discuss the job, and on April 4 I sent him photographs of what needed to be done. He then came out to view the job, gave me a price which was agreeable, and took some sample stones so he could order the same type. He said he was scheduled out about two weeks, and I said that was fine. Time passed. Toward the end of April, I emailed him; no response. Time passed. I emailed him again June 20; no response. I called him again June 22; no response. I called the office June 23, and a bored person said she would pass the message along to him. He then called the same day with various excuses, and said he would get back to me ASAP to schedule. Time passed. I emailed PPS in July with my story and complaint and plea for response; no response. Conclusion: a total lack of professionalism.
Description of Work: No service was performed because over the course of four months, a visit to my home to view the job and numerous phone calls and emails, the company never bothered to schedule the job in spite of an agreement on price.

The lady was about 1 hour late arriving, showed me a bunch of nice pictures of thier work, took my money and basically came back with a quote. then wanted more money to come back and do a layout, which I thought she would have done the first night. Looks like they do good work but seem to charge for services most offer for free.
Description of Work: Asked them to come out and give me some ideas for Landscaping. The lady arrived late, it was dark and she couldn't see much of my current landscape. Took some notes and came back with a quote. Costs me $100 to get the quote, then they wanted to charge another $120 to come out and do a layout. Seems like a ripe off, since most landscapers are willing to come out and quote for free and give you ideas to get your job.

We didn?t follow through so the estimate wasn?t complete. He canceled on us once but then he came out, and he wasn?t real good about following up. We had other estimates and we chose to go with someone else. When he came out he measured everything and talked to us so that part was good.
Description of Work: Pacific Outdoor Living gave us an estimate for steps, a driveway, and pool decking.
My husband and I have built several houses over the years and have dealt with many, many contractors. Never in all of our experiences have we worked with a company that is so professional, meticulous, knowledgable and courteous. The team showed up early every day, even on questionable weather days. Whenever there was a question or an unexpected problem we were consulted and they worked with us to find a satisfactory solution. The quality of the workmanship of Pacific Pavingstone went well beyond our expectations. They didn't just do the job that we hired them to do, they went the extra mile and that is reflected in the quality of their finished product.
Description of Work: The company removed the old concrete around our pool, a badly installed flagstone walk, grass, concrete driveway, and concrete courtyard in the entryway to the front of the house. Our backyard was poorly graded and water was seeping under the foundation of our house compromised the integrity of the structure. They installed drains and graded the backyard so that the ground water now runs into the drains and from there into our sump pump. They then paved the backyard, built a seating wall, paved the driveway and courtyard and created a path from the courtyard to the driveway.

We've needed our 50-year-old asphalt driveway replaced for at least a decade - it was cracked and broken, with tree roots popping through in several spots. We considered replacing it with more asphalt, poured concrete or paving stones and opted for the latter after getting quotes from several vendors. Pacific Pavingstone was professional all the way - they arrived on time, performed the work exactly as quoted, and we never once felt like we had made the wrong choice. Every member of the construction team was organized, tidy and totally professional. The finished product is truly great, and I would definitely use them again. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

This company apparently outsources their landscape design services. They sent a landscape architect here to do a consult, I paid $500 deposit for a design plan, and he said he would come back in 2 weeks with the design drawing, samples, etc. (BTW, this service I found through the Armstrong Garden Centers - you will find brochures there about their landscaping partnership with Pacific Outdoor Living.) Did not hear back. I called the main office and then the landscaper guy called me saying he was behind schedule so could he come out on Thursday. Ok with me...Thursday comes and I never heard from him so I called main office again. I wanted my money back. Barry at the office was kind in trying to salvage the situation so, after some prodding, I agreed to let him send a new landscaper/designer to finish the job. Please note that he says these people are employees but the landscapers say they have their own businesses, complete with websites, etc. So I am not sure what the real set up is which is a little uncomfortable. Anyway, the new landscape designer (not architect) called me to set up an appointment for 1:00 today. They picked the day, time, everything. They did not show up nor did they call. So it's back on the phone with Barry from main office again. He tracked them down and had them call me. They were rather flippant about the fact that they missed my appointment and said they confused it with another appointment rather far away (huh? we just made the appointment yesterday). Well, I know a blow off story when I hear one (the landscapers are cherry-picking the jobs to the detriment of the smaller jobs - my budget was only about $15,000)...3 weeks have now been wasted on this whole Pacific Outdoor Living experience. These landscape designers that they use are unreliable. The people at the main office are ok but seem to be at the mercy of these unprofessional landscapers. Called Barry again and this time he said he would refund my money. I hope to get it next week. If not, I will add to this story.

They had to take out the old concrete patio and replace it with paver stones and extend our patio. They had to do a much larger hardscape section to our backyard. He came out and spent a lot of time with us. He answered all our questions and invited us to come to the showroom to see all the different colored stones. They are very professional and do quality work. We haven’t decided on whether to have the work done or not. We would definitely use them if we decide to have the work done.

The job was huge as the space was too big. The people who came were nice and informative. I decided to get the job done by my friend. If it was not for him I would have definitely chosen Pacific Pavingstone.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Pacific Pavingstone to remove the cement patio and change that to stone.
The first sales person I made appointment with had his car broke down. The 2nd sales person I made appointment with said unless I am sure I wanted to do paving stone and had at least 500 square footage; it would be wasting his time to come meet me since he has to pay for his own gas and he only gets pay if he made a sale. I called this company the 3rd time because they had such good reviews on Angie?s list and had a great website. The 3rd sales person I met was their Orange County sales manager, Norm. The first time we met, he told me he would beat Genesis Stone work?s price easily and quoted me $8.00 per square foot for the paving stone. The second time we met he said the price is $9.50 and he could never quoted me $8.00 since that is below their cost. By the time we signed the contract, the actual price is $10.50 per square foot. I asked him why, he said because he has to charge extra for steps. I went ahead and sign the contract because (1) I was really running out of time and (2) I know Genesis paving stone would charge me $9.50 for regular paving stone materials but for tumbled paving stone they wanted to charge me $11.00. And since the sales manager said I can choose any paving stone I like so if I choose the tumbled paving stone, it would still be cheaper then Genesis paving stone. After I signed the contract, my project was hand over to a person called Harley who told me Norm was fired therefore there is a lot of details he needs to go over with me. Harley also told me the total square footage of paving stone is 2250 not 1850 as measured by Norm so the company needs to charge me extra for the extra square footage. On top of the incorrect measurement, the paving stone I picked is tumbled paving stone and of custom color so it should be $12 per square foot instead of $10.50 per square foot. At this point, I was so upset and ready to pull the plug. I told Harley, I had three people came to gave me estimate, they all had different measurements and Norm is the one with the least square footage. I told Norm to re measure it because I don?t want to sign a contract and find out I had to pay more because of incorrect measurement. And since I already had a drawing by my landscape designer, all Norm needs to do is measure the square footage from the drawing. So Norm re-measured it and changed the square footage from 1500 to 1850. Norm also told me I can pick any paving stone I like. And I already spend one entire morning with my husband driving 30 minutes to the stone yard picking out the stone there is no way I would redo the process again. The company went ahead and agreed to the contract without additional cost. Once the project is started, I met with Trend, the owner?s son to go over the details once again. And things changed again. For example, when I signed the contract with Norm, the BBQ Island was suppose to have a grill, a sink and a refrigerator. And when I talked to Harley he told me there is no place for both sink and refrigerator so I had to pick one. I picked the sink. Even though the refrigerator was taken out from the contract, Harley did not adjust the contract amount to reflect it. I went along with it since I knew the company already took a loss on the incorrect measurement. But when I met with Trend, he said he can fit a refrigerator in the BBQ Island; however he will need to charge me extra for it. The first part of the project was the paving stone, which went very well and fast. The waterfall turned out very beautiful and was done very fast too. However, for the BBQ Island, I was told the existing underground gas pipe is not to code and needs to be removed. I asked Trend, how much and how long it would take to redo the underground pipe. Trend said he doesn?t know because he needs to find another company to do it and he told me to using gas tank instead. After the BBQ Island was done, it looked very unfinished and unprofessional. There was a big gap between the bottom BBQ grill and the front wall of the island. The edges of the counter top were not straight and stucco for the BBQ wall was done poorly. The counter top looks uneven, very cheap and unfinished too. Trend agreed to fix the gap and re-stucco the BBQ wall. And for the counter top, I asked the worker what he can do to make it look better. He said I can acid wash it to add color. However, the company doesn?t want to offer that choice to me. At this point of the project, I found out although the company has many years in paving stone, they only started their landscape department three months ago. And they had only done a handful of BBQ Islands. So I gave up on asking the company to make the BBQ Island look better. Near the end of the project I also found out the company did not install the underground pipes for pot irrigation drips. When I asked, they told me it was not on the drawing. I told them it was on the drawing done by my landscape designer which I gave to Norm; that was the drawing the contract was referring to. Then I realized, the company never got the drawing from Norm and that is why they send Harley to go over the project with me before the project started. However, when I go over the project with Harley, I thought we are only nailing down loose ends. I did not know the company would work based on Harley?s drawing instead of the drawing by my landscape designer. I thought the drawing by Harley is supposed to complement the drawing by my landscape designer, not replace it. And this point, there is nothing the company can do; the only way to install the underground pipes for the drips is to demolish the paving stone. Trend sound frustrated when I told him the problem and without patient he said he believed me but it has already been done so what do I want now. Then I told him, instead of asking what I want and tried to get project over with, as an owner, he should asked me how I feel and if I am satisfied with the project so far. I told him, I am very unsatisfied with the project. I have been very tolerant with all the mistakes they made and agree to a lot of change orders and additional costs all because I knew the company took a hit on the incorrect measurement of the square footage. I also told him, I really don?t know how they can get so many good reviews if this is how they work. If I would do it again, I would probably go with Genesis Stone Work since they are the only company who can do both paving stone and complete landscape. And probably have Pacific Paving Stone do the waterfall.
Description of Work: • Demolish existing concretes and install paving stones on driveway, pathway, side yards and back yards. Total square footage is 2250. • Modify existing waterfall to a pond-less waterfall. • Replace existing wrought iron gate. • Add 80 square foot of patio extension. • Build two new wood gates. • Replace existing BBQ Island with L shaped BBQ Island that includes a sink and a BBQ grill that uses gas tank. • Landscape construction including: fix/install lawn irrigation, fix/install planter irrigation, 12 x path lights, 6 x up lights, 50 x 5 gal shrubs, 3 x 24” box trees, 10 x 15 gal trees, 50 x 1 gal shrubs, 450 sq ft of marathon sod.

I thought they did a really good job. They came out and talked with us for a long time about what we wanted and needed, they told us how long it would take. They did a good job and it took the amount of time they had estimated. We thought the price was fair.
Description of Work: Pacific Pavingstone did a patio, driveway and path. They extended the patio around the side of our house. They also did some drains from our gutters so it would flow out if we had too much water.
I had originally been told 4 or 5 days for the project (all the other vendors had told me 6+) so that was on Pacific's side. On Saturday morning, Joaquin and his enormous crew showed up bright and early. I was pretty surprised to see 8+ guys. They completed the concrete demo and dirt excavation in a few hours and by noon they had started running the drainage pipe and carting in the base material. When they left at the end of day 1, the base was leveled and compacted and the drainage was complete. They returned Monday morning, laid and compacted the sand. By noon, most of the pavers were laid, the new wall was built, the stucco was spread and the saw was cutting the edging pavers. I was shocked when I talked to them around 4pm and they said they would be done that day. He said they were slow on jobs, so we got an extra-large crew, which shortened the job from 4-5 days to 2. All in all, the work was done extremely well and Joaquin and his crew were extremely skilled, courteous and professional. For the price I paid, I got more than my money's worth. I would definitely use Pacific for future jobs. I waited for a decent rain before I posted, to see how their drainage worked. The patio was the driest part of my property after 24 hours of rain, so they did a great job there as well.
Description of Work: We have about 2000 sq. ft. of (semi) flat area in our backyard, before the yard turns into a steep hill. About 400 of those feet was 40 year old concrete patio and the rest was at one time grass. Our 2 large dogs play rough in this area and have long since killed most of the grass. We finally decided it was impossible to sustain ground cover here and started looking into different options. We decided to replace the existing concrete and about 400 feet of mud pit with pavers, and started solicited bids. We got 4 bids overall. One guy was clearly in over his head, another guy bid way high, which left 2 vendors, including Pacific. I felt comfortable with both companies, so it really came down to the bid. In additional to the pavers I wanted to build a new planting bed in front of my existing retaining wall (to accommodate for the slight slope of the ground) as well as stuccoing my existing wall to match. Pacific's salesman Brian was extremely eager to get the work and after some negotiating, I got him to agree to a good discount if I was willing to start work that week (I had original told him April).

It turned out fine. I dealt with a few different people and the salesman was okay. He had me go down to the yard where they buy their stuff to look at the samples rather than it being brought to my house, which was better because they gave me samples to take home. I think that was the prime reason and they were very hospitable and helped me quite a bit. They also gave me lot of free to take home. The construction crew was okay and the only thing is that I felt that they could have cleaned up a little better. They had to do rings around some trees, which they did in an oval instead of a circle. They had a guy that came by after wards and took care of any complaints I had, so I had to have remedy some things. The workers threw sand and rocks into my lawn, which I thought could be easily avoided by putting something down before they loaded their stuff.

After seeing other sales people, Pacific Pavingstone's sales person was professional and personable. I appreciated their patience when it came time to view the pavers at the warehouse. They even brought the two samples to our home so that we could visualize it in our own yard. There were some delays and mostly from follow through, but once the contract was signed, it all went very smoothly. It looks beautiful and we are very happy with our new patio/ expensive child playground. Pacific Pavingstone kindly sent us a bottle of wine thanking us for their business. We are happy to endorse their service. Another little note, as a customer of Angie's List we received an additional discount.
Description of Work: Removed a small terrace and then excavated lawn area to place the pavers. The entire area was curved which required a lot of precise cutting. The winding path is seamless. All the stones were cut to ensure the smooth and winding look. Not one stone is misaligned.

Brian Godley came out, gave us an estimate for pavers, and was the most professional, honest and responsive person we've ever met. We interviewed 8 other companies. Two offered to beat all competitors' prices. We chose PacificPavingStone primarily because of Brian. We are extremely happy with our choice and ecstatic about the quality of the work performed --Pavers over1400 sq feet of driveway. Well worth the extra thousand we paid over a competitor. Having had the misfortune of a recent remodel of our home (the architect was an Angie's list grade A), we had a very jaded attitude about architects and contractors. PacificPavingStone was not only very detailed about the work to be performed (we found many evasive when asked pointed questions about quality of work) but forthright and honest about areas which could not be guaranteed.
Description of Work: installed over 1400 square feet of pavers. Brian Godley dropped off multiple samples of stones so we could lay out the color combos to help give us a sense of how it would look. He also answered all questions about the environmental impact of pavers vs. other stones, cement. He was incredibly knowledgeable, articulate and resorted to "industry speak" only when it actually helped us understand or answer our questions. PacificPavingStone's lifetime guarantee for their work is real. NO ONE else in the industry offers that! A competitor even said they would go bankrupt if they offered it. Obviously, Pacific PS is not afraid to put their money where their mouth is.
