+ -1 moreMy experience with Brian was excellent. I called in the late morning. Brian was going out but would be back by the early afternoon. I dropped the computer off to him at around 1:30. He called with an update about 2 hours later. A couple hours after that everything was done and I picked the computer up. Everything is now working well. I plan to use Brian for all my computer needs in the future.
Description of Work: My MacBook was not turning on. I had had the hard drive replaced at the Apple Store but this had not fixed the problem and the computer was out of warranty. Brian fixed everything.

+ -1 moreFirst I email Brian, not receiving a reply two days later I phoned him. He said when he got back to his office he would respond to my email. That was over a week ago, no response. This type of business person is not reliable. I need reliability. Guess this computer field is full of flakes. I'll keep trying, Brain was the second Angie's List person who hasn't responded to my emails.
Description of Work: Needed desparatley to have someone familiar with Apple Mac's to take info off two pc's and combine on my new Mac. Also install Windows for Mac on my new Mac.

+ -1 moreOne more quality I failed to mention--Brian doesn't just let you sit there and be a "big baby" while he explains things to you. I have a slight vision problem and so I couldn't see my scree looking over his shoulder. He encouraged me to sit down in front of the monitor and rather than he working the controls (as lots of guys would have done) encouraged me to "do it myself." And that's the only way one learns, really. So, hat's off to him for that as well...
Description of Work: God....how long have I been searching for a tech like Brian? Seems like forever. Brian is everything you'd want in a tech...he knows his stuff backwards and forwards, he's smart, he's humble, he's not overbrearing...and he's a good "teacher" (a highly underrated quality). Brian returned my call immediately, and came the next day....arriving right at the appointed time. I wasn't having any huge problems....just the need to set up a workable backup drive system, and also a way to begin the long and terrible process of cleaning up my computer...which is (of course) just as messy and disorganized as my office. Actually, Brian made me feel better on this account, telling me he's seen a LOT worse, and we discussed a workable way of dealing with both these issues. Two hours later, all my questions answered, and on the way to reformatting one 500 gig backup drive, Brian took off...and I spent the rests of the day happily noodling away. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment with Brian...and I'm sure each time will be a learning process as well as just a "fix-it" session.

+ -1 moreWithin two days, Brian had recovered all, or nearly all, the data on my hard drive. He asked me which files were the most essential to get back and prioritized those, which I greatly appreciated. It's too early too tell whether I have EVERYTHING recovered, but every important file that I can remember is there. All done quickly and with great calm and courtesy (no condescending techie attitude), which is important when your computer holding three years worth of work dies on you. Outstanding service all the way around. I only wish Brian could somehow become an official Apple Care service provider.
Description of Work: The hard drive on my iMac died completely. It had three years worth of work on it, and so based on Brian's reputation, I brought it to him to recover the data. I liked the fact that he doesn't charge you the $300 fee if he can't recover the data.

+ -1 moreI inherited an old iBook and asked Brian to make sure it was still in running order and to also install OS 9 on it so I could work on some older files. Apart from his expertise, what I really appreciated was Brian calling me from time to time to update me on what was working and what wasn't, and giving me options to choose from. Apart from a bad airport card, everything was hunky dory. He works quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again.

+ -1 moreFantastic service, and I am a real stickler on quality service. Fixed up our router issue in about 8 minutes, then he tested all the computers in the house for upload/download speed. I asked for his advice on streamlining my work station, which is my small business operation media studio with scanners, video machines, external hard drives, 2 printers, etc. He made suggestions of hardware and software (which he did not sell personally) to enhance my system. Just terrific...he made me a customer for life.
Description of Work: My router needed to be re-configured. Internet was running very slow on the wireless network in our home.

+ -1 moreBrian did a great job with the installation of a WiFi router, connecting my iMac with my Powerbook. In the process, there were necessary adjustments and upgrades that he handled effortlessly. Any questions that I had as I watched, he explained with as much detail as I required. The following day, with unfortunate coincidence, my iMac had an operating system problem and Brian was able to come back without notice and fix that as well, avoiding a more costly and time consuming alternative. I followed up with Brian, on more than one occasion, via email about some additional questions, issues and frustrations I was having. He responded with graciousness and professionalism. I would highly recommend Brian for not only repair, but for training and education.

+ -1 moreI took my computer into a tech support place and the tech told me that the problem was either the RAM or Logic Board that were bad but couldn't repair it because it was out of warranty. He gave me a list of computer repair places where I could get my computer fixed. I called all the places that were close to my home. Most of them had answering machines where I could leave a message and others wanted me to drop off the computer with a 4-5 day turn around time just for a diagnosis. I finally called Brian and he picked up the phone!!! Yeh!!! A live person on the other line? I couldn't believe it. He was very professional, easy going and very knowledgeable. I was able to drop off my computer to him within a couple of hours. Just 30 min. after the drop-off, Brian called me and told me it was fixed!!! Voil !!! Just like that. He told me what the problem was, what the problem meant, and what my options were. I couldn't believe how straight up he was. Thank You Brian.

He arrived on time with the tools he needed to do the job. Very professional and knowledgeable about Macs. Did not waste any time. Was well worth the price.

He ultimately figured out that because of network interference, the only network we could run effectively was a newer n network. After months of dealing with customer service people telling me I must be doing something wrong, I was relieved to get finally a clear grasp of my situation.

+ -1 moreWe thought we had all the required hardware and software equipment but encountered trouble connecting to the wireless network and loading new Microsoft Vista, Office and security programs. Brian was able to diagnose the problem; the new computer had a (now past due) 30 day sample Microsoft XP that made it difficult to fix ourselves. He uninstalled the XP, installed our other new software and then was able to connect to our server.

+ -1 moreGreat. Called Brian on Thursday; spoke to him personally when I called; he offered to come out on the weekend; I picked Tuesday instead (more convenient for me). He was right on time; tackled my machine with confidence; removed and evaluated the hard drive; had the data and all programs transferred in 20 minutes; then put the old machine back together. It is no longer making threatening noises and -who knows? - may last me another 16 years. I had mentioned to Brian casually that I had a scanner that I had not been able to get operating with the new Dell; he checked it out, reinstalled the software, and showed me how to use it. All this in 1.5 hours, pleasant every moment.
Description of Work: Brian was willing to take on the challenge of making a house call and repairing (if it was possible) a 16-year-old COMPAQ 360 PC with a DOS-operating system and a failing hard drive and/or retrieving all data from the machine and transferring it to my new Dell PC tower. He did both!! Then helped me get a scanner that had layed idle and connected to my tower, up and running by loading software and instructing me on its use.

I asked Brian to provide my husband and myself with the benefits and limitations of choosing a MAC over a PC laptop. Brian expressed his preference for MACs however he was willing to review both. Brian arrived on time. He was prepared with options to review on his laptop. He answered all our questions no matter how basic. He is very knowledgeable and genial. He looked at our physical setting, asked pertinent questions to determine how/where we would like to use wireless and made specific recommendations for wireless configuration. Now that we have purchased the MAC laptop and setup cable Internet service, we will again use Brian's in-home consultation service for the wireless configuration.
