Description of Work: I scheduled a Saturday appointment roughly three weeks in advance. On the week of my appointment, I contacted America's Best to see if there was a possibility of changing the appointment to Friday rather than Saturday, while also letting them know that Saturday was still fine with me if they didn't have an opening for Friday. They responded that they did not have an opening Friday and that they would still plan to be at my house between 8 am and 11 am on Saturday morning. Shortly thereafter, they sent another email reminding me that canceling my appointment within 24 hours would result in a $30 fee. I thought this was odd considering I didn't want to cancel my appointment and had made it clear that I was still ok with them coming on Saturday. On Saturday morning, I was sure to be ready for them before 8 am. I prepared the windows I wanted re-screened and organized everything in a way that would make their job quick and easy. After waiting for three hours, I emailed America's Best shortly after 11 am to tell them that no one had showed for the appointment and no one had called, so I was leaving my house. At noon I received a voice mail saying that they couldn't find my house and my address didn't exist. They repeated the address they had on file and it was, in fact, the correct address. Any basic Google search, Mapquest, GPS, etc. will bring you directly to my house. It is not unique by any means. It's unfortunate that they did not have the courtesy to call me earlier in the day to let me know that they would not make the appointment on time. It felt insulting that they would make it a point to remind me of their $30 cancellation fee while at the same time not showing up to my house (or at least calling) within a THREE HOUR window. I left with the impression that they believed their time to be more valuable than mine, which, as a consumer with unlimited choices, is not the way I'd like to conduct business.

+ -1 moreI was pleased with the re-screening of the two small windows; but, not so much for the re-meshing of the patio screen door. The mesh was not well dovetailed into the door's frame, leaving waves and irregularities. In addition, the original arrangement was to use pet-mesh, but the contractor was given the wrong dimensions for the screen door. So, I just went with the standard mesh. The contractor was not inclined to go out of his way to make things right, nor was his boss. I stayed with the contractor during the entire process. I should have had left him to work alone rather than listen to his frustrations so that the entire job and experience might have come out better. I can not remember is actual name, just only the company's moniker for him as Mr. Grump. Overall, I do not believe that my business was important to this company. This is a national company, so my review will be most likely insignificant to their overall operations. All my experiences that were with Lovely Windows by the Lads was not with America's Best. I hope this contractor finds work circumstances more to his liking.

+ 0 moreI purchased a Big Deal from Angie's List for pressure washing and window cleaning. Mike and Dustin showed up EARLY and went to work immediately, with enthusiasm and professionalism. They let me know if there were any areas that might be an issue. They were very nice guys and hard workers. They pressure washed most of the house (there's one side no one can see, so I figured why pay for it), and washed many of the windows on the outside and many of the screens. They did a great job. It's nice to see people with a great work ethic as Mike and Dustin, who were very proud of their work, as they should be.

+ -1 moreThe work went very well. We had removed all furniture that was against the windows as requested by the time he came, so the work went very fast. He left the floors very clean. He had brought all the equipment he needed, including ladders, etc. Everything was great. We'll hire them again when our windows need cleaning.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal coupon for inside and outside window cleaning for $129.00, but we added some extra work to clean the screens. The work went very well; he work very fast and efficiently, clean the alloted number of windows and left them sparkling clean. One thing we found odd was the way he counted windows, because each panel in a window counted as one, instead of counting one whole window as one. But I guess it makes sense since they were large windows. He also clean an extra window by mistake but we were not charged extra for it.

+ 0 moreBought Big Deals for window cleaning and rescreening. Worker arrived on time and spent several hours cleaning all upper level windows. We just bought the 25-year-old house and weren't sure the windows had ever been cleaned but they sparkled just like new when he was done. I now wish I had paid extra and had him do all the downstairs windows too because I know I'm never going to get them that clean! He then rescreened 5 of our damaged screens and did an excellent job.

He removed all of the screens and was meticulous. I would highly recommend this service and Mike especially, for all your window cleaning needs!

+ -1 moreI called on one of the Deals but I had one too many windows. They offered what I thought was a good rate, and had a good rating, so I made an appointment. I have a guest coming soon so I was happy they were able to give me an appointment within a few days. I was given and 8-11am time frame. Mike arrived at 8:15 and got right to work. He did a wonderful job. He was neat, efficient, careful and respectful of my home. My windows look great. When he was finished I was ready with a check and asked for an invoice. He did not have one and asked me to call the office and see about them faxing me one. When I called, the office did not seem to be clear on how this should work and asked to speak to Mike. They began talking about the job, asked him how many windows, discussed the French aspect and the invoice. It was apparent the person in the office did not know I had so many French doors, although this had been made clear when I scheduled the cleaning. It seemed like they might be confused on what to charge me even though I had been given the cost by phone. Mike told them he did not count the windows but the charge seemed fair for the job. I waited for a fax and then finally let Mike go and told him I would arrange payment the other way that was offered. They emailed me the invoice and I called and gave them my credit card. Mike was very professional but it seems like the office can be more organized. I would use them again, however, and would ask for Mike if he is available. It is great to have sparkling clean windows!

Description of Work: Please read the fine print on Angie's List Big Deals. This deal was advertised at $129.00 exterior window cleaning only and included up to 20 contemporary windows. When my service technician Ryan (very professional) counted my windows, I had more than twenty, so there was an extra charge per additional window. Another extra charge for screens. I typically pay $200.00 total for interior and exterior cleaning including screens and sills and I paid $216.00 plus tip for exterior cleaning and screens only, so this was quite a bit more than I typically pay for this service. Very pleased with the work performed; just too expensive for me!

+ -1 moreI tried to make two appointments, Monday the 5th and today 12/9 between 8-10. I first called at 8:15 and she said he would be there within the window. A couple of calls later, she said they should be coming before 10 since he was only 14 miles away and did not have another job, but they did not show up in the time frame. I said that I would wait until 10:30 since I had already rearranged my day around the appointment. They did not show up by 10:30 and the woman was very rude to me when I called. She gave no explanation why they didn’t show up, and even told me I was the first appointment of the day. The first time I called them, the customer service was fine, but the treatment I received this morning was probably some of the worst customer service I’ve ever received on any contracted job. I found her attitude flabbergasting and quite atrocious. I explained I had to leave by 10:30 to get to work, and she seemed like it was no big deal. When I asked her why, she seemed to have the attitude that since it was a discounted cleaning through a Big Deal and they were also offering $1 per minute discount on top of that, that I had nothing to complain about. She actually even hung up on me when I called at 10:30 telling her I had to leave.

+ -1 moreWe got a "Big Deal" coupon, so the cost was low. We had to reschedule several times due to weather and our conflicts, and Desiree was very helpful and accommodating. (The date I listed is approximate as it took us several times to change it, and I can't remember the precise day we wound up with.) A single man came and did the 20 windows quickly and very efficiently. Our dog had created quite a mess on several of the patio windows, and it had been quite some time since any of them had been cleaned on the outside, so it wasn't an easy job. We were very pleased with the quality of his work and would definitely call them again.
Description of Work: Cleaned 20 windows on the outside (single story house). Some of the windows are patio doors.

+ 0 moreThe crew (of two) arrived yesterday morning (Wed. 11/30/11). One of them told me he was new and it was his first time doing anything like this - not calculated to inspire confidence. Once I told them about the roof they both looked totally bewildered and said they hadn't been told and they had never worked on this kind of roof before. I left the crew leader to phone his superiors and I called Amazon Tiles, the original supplier, and spoke to their consultant who said it would be foolhardy to even contemplate using inexperienced people to walk on the roof. After much talking and arguing the crew leader then said that the boss told him he was to go ahead with the job. By now I had decided to decline their services. I explained that if they went ahead and inadvertently cracked any tiles I wouldn't know until the rains came. Both crew members were polite and understanding. I'm sure they do a good job in what they do most of the time. I tipped them both for their trouble. Under the circumstances, which are at least a misunderstanding and miscommunication, I feel totally justified in refusing to take a chance on a potentially disastrous outcome. I would like a refund of the amount of $199.00 charged by Angie's List to my PayPal account. Thank you, Ron Arden
Description of Work: The job required by me was to power-wash our roof. In ordering their services I explained that the roof was made of light weight concrete tiles that were very brittle. I emphasized that their technicians must know how to walk on this type of roof or very expensive breakage could occur. I was assured they would know how to do the job safely. The job was scheduled and then rescheduled for a week later because the crew couldn't make it that day. At the time I was called, I again re-emphasized that they must be sure to tell the crew about the light-weight tiles. I was again told they would be. Not being totally confident I sent an email confirming my concerns. I enclose a copy: Hello Desiree:This is to confirm that your company will be power washing the roof of my home at 3728 DixonPlace, San Diego, 92107 on Monday, November 21, 2011, the arrival time is 1pm to 3.00 pm.I want to reiterate my comment on the phone to you that the roof is tiled with lightweight concrete tiles that are very brittle. Stepping on them requires knowledge and great care or cracking can occur. Once cracked, they have to be replaced to prevent water seepage. If you have any uncertainties I'd rather not have the job done. Thank you, Ron Arden

The window cleanings were fine, though the lateness of the hour and impending darkness interfered with job quality, I think. Workmen were polite, competent, and cleaned up after themselves. I was surprised to see only one person, as I have 30 windows and 3 floors in the back. No worry, He did it all! Hugo also cleaned all the runners. He's terrific!!! I will never use anyone else. We have recently moved into this house and all the windows were REALLY dirty. Now' they sparkle.
