Clean, professional job

The workers came promptly at 9:00 and worked through the early evening. They are extremely organized, professional and polite. They wrapped Tyvek around the house, and got the siding almost completed in one day. They know how to work with the John Hardie siding and applied it neatly.

Good response from our first phone call all the way to the installer handing us the warranty etc at the end of the job. Everything went very smoothly.

I thought the price was reasonable and the quality was great.

We also had some windows replaced along with these doors - I listed the review for the window portion under a different review because we had problems with the windows. The door portion of this job went very well - from the sales (showed us many options for the door designs, materials, hardware, etc.) to the measuring to the final job. The guys doing the installing were very professional, polite and explained exactly what they were doing and clarified how to match the locks per our instructions. When they were done, everything was spotless (they swept the whole driveway) I'd definitely recommend them again!

We met with the sales guy when they were doing work in our neighborhood in Oct '08. Things went very smoothly, he showed us many options for the windows and doors (I listed the door portion of this job under a separate report since that was a different experience) and we had an order written up the same day. Unfortunately, it took many months and a lot of back and forth phone calls to sort out the windows. First, the materials we selected didn't meet the city's requirements - we never really were sure why our sales guy didn't know this earlier. Next, the permit needed to be changed and ended up being much more costly ($499) than originally estimated. We nearly canceled the windows job entirely but eventually decided to give them another chance to get it right - we started the window order from scratch in late March - they needed to re-measure and assigned a new crew, but when the windows finally arrived, the job went well. The crew started off as only one guy, but he was able to install the two small windows on his own. The job took two days, and on day two the second member of the crew showed up and they installed the large window. They explained everything (including what needed painting - painting was not included), how to get the permit signed off on and what type of caulk they used. When they were done, the inside and outside was very clean. The crew was professional and very nice - when it is all said and done, we are VERY happy with our new windows and would use American Home Renwal again.

I liked the products that this company carries. They were able to do the installation with minimal reconstruction for the style of window that I wanted. The sales person was helpful. She answered all of my questions and kept tabs during the project. She followed up after the installation. The installation could have been a little more smooth when it came to scheduling, due to weather and the installation teams' schedule. It took 12 weeks for my custom windows to arrive.

Overall, they did a good job and the siding has done well over the year.

They were honest and I did recommend them to a couple other people.

They did an excellent job on a job that other people wouldn't touch. They were very responsive to my needs and very knowledgeable about the building codes.

The bay windows presented a big problem during installation when it was discovered that the original measurements were not as detailed as they should have been. Basically, our house is very old so the 2 sides of the bay window have sunk over the years - understandable. Unfortunately, this created a larger than usual skew in the window dimensions and this should have been noted before the windows were ordered. Once it was realized that the new windows would not work due to the sag in the bay, we were left with 2 options. Order new, smaller windows or rebuild the window frames. We decided to have the frames rebuilt. Unfortunately, this also required new wood trim. Our wood trim is original (80 yrs old) and consistent throughout the house so, we also had to order new, custom cut trim for the entire bay window. Working our way through each of these issues is what we found frustrating. The project manager was hardly involved, as a matter of fact, we never met him in person throughout the entire project. It was primarily handled by our new installer, the same person that initially made the incorrect measurements. In my opinion, this was not treated as a big enough priority. The back and forth communications went on for several weeks. This was our biggest frustration. Each time we posed a question or asked for a quote it would take about a week to get an answer. We tried to get the project manager more involved but he kept passing things back to the installer. We were nervous to upset the installer because - well, he's the installer. We finally got back in touch with the salesperson and she helped get things moving along again. It all felt like a very delicate process and something a customer should not have to manage. Overall, my husband and I are very happy with the quality and appearance of all the windows. I only wish they could have moved things along faster. Fortunately, we did not pay 1 cent up front so this made us feel more at ease when things did not move as fast as I would have liked. All the employees are courteous and professional and seemed very experienced in their line of work. It was their responsiveness that kept me and my husband concerned throughout the process. I felt like I had to keep on top of everything or it would have drug on and on. We are very happy with these windows!

There were 3 people that showed up to do the work, which is what I requested. It took about 6 hours. For the amount of work they did, I thought that was about right. It was well worth the money. It helped me get everything organized and clean in my house.

We are very happy with the final result, and we had only good dealings with the project manager, Marc. We did have a couple of problems along the way. For example, the dimensions of the living room and dining room windows were reversed, and code for the garage window required it to be tempered glass and it wasn't. I guess I could be more annoyed about those events, but they were fabulous about remedying both problems quickly. They didn't ask for a single penny until we were 100% satisfied, and they really didn't. There was never a hint or a suggestion that we might want to send a check. We got several quotes, and the others wanted 40-50% before starting the job. American Home Renewal wasn't the lowest (but it was second lowest, and not much higher), and we liked Micah and the product. We felt we would be in good hands. We like the Anlin windows very much, but I reserve final opinion on those until we've had them 10 years. But we were very happy with AHR right now.

First off, AMAZINGLY, these guys will not accept any payments whatsoever until the job is done and we were completely satisfied. That really boosted our confidence! Then the workmanship was very high-quality, the installers spoke English (born in California) and seemed very very experienced. They were kind and considerate of our home and our new baby's napping schedule. The company has all of the required licenses and a spotless BBB report so we chose them even though they were a little more expensive we've learned that when it comes to contractors: "You get what you pay for". These guys have won a lot of awards and have been featured on HGTV shows and so I wonder about some of the lesser comments about them from other reviewers. Maybe they were expecting perfection since these guys cost a bit more. I was expecting a quality job, using top-rate materials from a company that puts the customer happiness first. I got it and I'm proud of my new home.

Love these guys. They are one of the very few firms that I totally recommend. Price is just okay, but the service is top notch. Worth every cent.

The installation took three times longer than expected and had numerous problems including the wrong wood and poor quality.

The estimator was late for our appointment. She took a long time to get back to me with the estimate. The estimate was only for one manufacturer. We discussed that I wanted to see comparisons with other manufacturers. The estimate was twice as high as the next highest bid.

My experience with this company is that they were very cooperative and fair. They did a good job and got the job done. They were quick and efficient. The windows have saved me money on the heating and cooling bill; so that is great.

I HAVE A VICTORIAN HOME AND HAD THEM PUT NEW SIDING ON ONE SIDE OF MY HOME. I WASN'T HAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT THE DID WHAT THEY WANTED TO, BUT IN SOME CASES THERE WERE THINGS I WANTED THEM TO DO THAT THEY DIDN'T DO.

This company did a great job replacing all of my windows. The crew that came out to replace the old windows with the new ones were very professional and very fast. They went the extra mile making sure the trim work inside and out was complete before they left. There work made my home better looking and more efficient. I highly recommend them.

THE SALESMAN WAS GREAT, HE ACTUALLY SUGGESTED AN APPLICATION THAT WAS PERFECT (AWINGS VS. SLIDE WINDOWS). WE DID HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH THE CAULKING BUT IS WAS RESOLVED TO MY SATISFACTION.

THEY WERE SUPER FRIENDLY, EFFICIENT, AND TOOK PRIDE IN THEIR WORK AND COMPLETING THE JOB ON TIME. VERY RESPONSIVE TO FOLLOW-UP PHONE CALLS I MADE.
