I stopped by at lunch to find footings with gaping holes, exposed rebar, and daylight showing through. The workers were sitting eating lunch, so I told them not to touch anything and called the contractors. I left to arrange a substitute teacher for my classes, and returned to find the workers had spent the time shoveling sand into the gaping holes trying to cover them up. I requested Jacobson Concrete Construction, Inc. dba KF Concrete, not be allowed back on my property given the behavior of the workers. Neither my general contractor nor the concrete contractor were on site during this important part of the construction process. When they arrived they said they would do anything necessary to fix the situation. The footings along with all the rough plumbing had to be removed, the entire pad re-excavated and soil re-compacted and re-tested. I was told Mr. Jacobson's insurance adjuster agreed to pay $40,000 to my general contractor which included $5,000 for an additional month's rent for my family. I later learned no insurance claim was ever filed and there was no monetary compensation for damages and added expenses. Slopes became steeper because soil was removed to over-excavate the building pad. Much of the concrete from the footings was broken up and buried/spread all over the property changing the nature of the soil and making it difficult to maintain, garden, or weed-whack during fire season. Please see my pictures and realize had I not dropped by at lunch my home would have been built on the pictured footings.
Description of Work: Jacobson Concrete Construction Company Inc., dba KJ Concrete installed footings for my new home in Santa Barbara. They set forms, installed rebar, added sand, pumped concrete, and removed forms. All the work had to be removed, please see pictures.
