Sales, Installation and Repair/Refinishing of Hardwood Floors
We had used this company 15 years ago and were very happy with their service. They installed all our wood floors downstairs in our house. When we called I had stated that we were unsure of the scope of the job...we were deciding if we might do wood in the entire upstairs... but that we were leaning towards doing wood only in the upstairs hallway and doing carpet elsewhere. There was also a closet that we were wanting a hard surface. I called for the appointment in July and we made it for beginning of August. We were happy after the appointment as they had made some good suggestions for the floor they had installed previously...a buff and coat and staining some top step pieces darker to help with tripping hazards. We had to wait a long time to receive the bid and questions about the bid were very slow to answer. When I received the bid I was struck by the fact that it was almost double another bid and also that the bid was incongruent....there were some areas that that bid was $19 sq ft and others that it was $23. I had contacted the owner (he was the one who came to do the bid) and asked first if there was any leeway in his bid and also if he could look at it and let me know why the discrepancies. He actually said he was willing to work with us a bit and lowered the bid to closer $20 sq ft which was more congruent with the rest of the bid. We had decided at that point that we would actually like to go with them since we had been so happy with their work 15 years ago. (Though I found out it is now under new management.) We had also decided that we were going to go with carpet for the time being in the bedrooms... (part of this decision was made also because they had taken so long to get back to us that we were afraid the work would not be done before our daughter's wedding in 6 weeks.). What we now wanted them to do was what I told him at the beginning ...we wanted to do the upstairs hallway and have them do the buff and coat and staining of the two steps. This was still an almost $5000 job. And again we were willing to pay the extra (another company the bid was $12 per sq. ft.) since they were going to care for the floor they had previously installed and we thought due to the work before that they would do a good job on the upstairs hallway. Then we were told today that they would not do the job as it was too small and they are now too busy. I am not happy with this treatment since they have strung us along for almost 2 months...I had told them we had a big event happening...I spent a lot of time trying to get a hold of them and work out the discrepancies in the bid...we have been previous good and large job customers and now they are refusing to service the job. This seems like a terrible way to do business. They also handled it extremely rudely. I hope they might reconsider that this is not a good way to treat a good customer and take care of my job as I was told previously that there would be no problem getting it done in the next couple weeks.
