Swan Pools West

Both services were performed in a very professional and workmanlike fashion. My wife and I agree that Dave was very fair with us and transformed our backyard into a true showplace. He has previously helped us with our pool and was very responsive when I asked for his help again! This is a second review.

So I presented Swan pools with a really tough job. I bought a house that had a pool that was in terrible shape. I wanted to repair the pool in the best way spending the least. My pool had a boulder fountain in it. And the boulders were leaching minerals that were ruining the plaster. It was disintegrating and turning green from oxidation. Plus it was unsafe to dive with all the rocks around. We also wanted a saline pool and that meant replumbing the copper. The trick was to get rid of the boulders, replumb the pool, replaster, and add coping and a patio around it all with VERY LIMITED SPACE TO WORK IN and on a strict deadline. . David Lewis, the owner of the company, and his crew found a way. Where others bid $20000 over or more, David found a way to do the work better for less. Even though I live in ground zero for rush hour traffic, the crews were friendly and prompt. Each subcontractor seemed expert at his job and cared about the quality of the work. David worked with us about design decisions we needed to make and the timing of those decisions (tiles, concrete colors, plaster colors, styles, etc) so we wouldn't get behind in the job. He also worked with our designer suggesting his ideas but quite willing to do whatever we decided on. Billing was clear and if we made an addition to the original order he would double check with us about how much it cost and created a new overall accounting. His years of expertise came in handy when we hit an unexpected bump in the road which included discovering old plumbing lines that went nowhere and dangerous broken and exposed electric lines. David took care of them without even blinking. That's the value of experience. They demolished my rocks and plaster in short order then started digging the new plumbing and electric. They put down the coping and cement for the patio. They added the pool equipment within a month I had a new pool. David was always there for qyuality control and if the was a glitch, he took care of it immediately. When the job was over he asked me if I was happy and what he could do better and this is a guy who's been doing this for decades. The fact that he is still willing to learn and grow says volumes about the work ethic and style of the company. They did a great job and a great price.

Todd at Swan Pools West was fantastic. He worked with us to define scope to fit our budget and design a beautiful pool to fit our taste. He also included Dave (partner) for quality checkpoints throughout the process. Todd was responsive, honest, fair and diligent in the work of his team. All of the people who had a part of the project were friendly, professional and produced quality work. We were thrilled with our new pool and spa and would recommend Swan Pools West to any friend, neighbor or family member.

Dave Lewis of Swan Pools is professional, calm, honest, punctual and diligent. He also happens to be funny and kind. We had a massive project and Dave and his team was able to handle all aspects of it with expertise. His very fair price and his depth of experience were why we chose Swan Pools after three years of looking for a pool contractor. We are so happy we did. We recommend him unreservedly, and would not think twice about using him in the future. His son Todd is also great to deal with, as is his wife Karen. A wonderful family business, run by a family that is hard-working, honest, fair and the most amazing part? It was fun, because Dave is such a great guy.

The entire effort went quite well. Swan Pools West was the most flexible contractor we surveyed; hence, we picked them. The demolition work and site preparation went pretty quickly. The pool construction duration was typical. Completion and closeout went fairly quickly as well. They handled changes without complaint and often provided alternatives to consider. We did make one sort of big change and it was performed professionally and costs were minimal. Another example of their flexibility and interest in doing a good job. The reason we noted "punctuality" as good instead of great was because Swan Pools West had several other contracts going on but they serviced us as quickly as they could. Plus, we were in no rush because work was scheduled for January-April and it was still a bit cool to need to rush. The end product is very nice and neighbors have commented positively in all cases. I'd like to point out that Swan Pools West always, repeat always, returned my calls and answered my questions, regardless how frequently I asked and how many times I needed things repeated. We look forward to staying in contact with this team. Highly recommended and a nice, friendly group of players. Thanks Todd, Dave, Denny, Lupe and all the crew.

Did not go well and did not have him do any of the other work. Had another contractor complete the entire job.

Yesterday, my landscape designer and I were to meet with the owner of Swan Pools West, Dave, at noon. I gave Dave's office my address last week at the time we set the appointment. Yesterday, at 11:15 am, Dave left me a message saying he couldn't find my address on his GPS system. I called him back at 11:30am and provided him with the exact directions. He said he was leaving and would meet me at noon. I then drove home from work to meet him. At three minutes before noon Dave called me again. This time he said he wasn't coming because my location was "just too far from his office." His office is in Simi Valley and my location is near Griffith Park. When I told him I had provided the address more than a week ago all he said was "I'm sorry. Its too far for me to provide service." My landscape designer arrived at noon to find that our meeting had been abruptly cancelled. I appreciate Dave's apology. However, I consider this very poor customer service and unprofessionalism on the part of Swan Pools West. Its frustrating to make appointments and take time away from work only to have your appointment cancel on you at the very last minute. Swan Pools West could have easily made the determination about distance last week or even a day before our scheduled meeting. Both my landscape designer and I lost time out of our busy days and we also lost a time slot that could have been filled by a company who would've actually come and offered us a bid to do the job.

Dave and his son Todd are very professional and take great pride in their work. Their workers were amazing and meticulous providing beautiful details to our pool and patio. My husband and I are so impressed with the entire operation and we highly recommend Swan Pools West to anyone else. They are very trustworthy and very intelligent guys. They know their stuff which is very comforting with such a large investment for your home. Our pool is absolutely gorgeous! They did an incredible job of taking a very small and challenging space and turning it into a backyard paradise. Do not hesitate to use them to refinish your pool or if you are like us, Completely renovate your entire yard and give you the pool of your dreams!

We met with three contractors to get bids, all three were highly rated o Angies List and gave a varied points of view on the needs of the pool. Price wasn't too high or too low and he was very open about what codes were necessary for our age pool. One other contractor added plumbing unnecessary plumbing arrangements that would have bumped up the price. Great straightforward communication throughout (two or three times a day if necessary), no hard sell and plus he's Welsh in his roots like me (most of the time thats a good thing!). We had one hiccup where some perished plastic on the intake skimmer shattered but Dave was on scene as soon as he heard and had a solution to fix before i even met with him on it. We discussed, his guys fixed and we moved on. Finish work was excellent and the weather played along so schedule was nailed, everything works great and we're very happy!

Perfect! Dave stuck to our budget. Th work was performed quickly and professionally. I have had bad experiences with contractors before...but i did not have one issue with Dave. Even after teh pool has been complete and we have questions, Dave always responds right away. Thank you Dave!

They were extremely professional. It was just that I was very surprised, at their pricing. They had great communication, they were timely, and very professional. They were extremely professional, but their pricing was just way too high. We ended up going with a licensed and bonded contractor that gave us a more reasonable price and the work was backed by a warranty. Very pleased with our other choice.

Swan Pools did a simply outstanding job with our new pool installation. David, Todd and their entire team were tremendous. I consider myself to be somewhat experienced when it comes to construction projects in general and working with contractors / vendors. David was very knowledgable and straightforward with us from the outset about the scope of the project, the time it would take for each phase of the construction and the cost associated. We spoke with several contractors on bids for this project, Swan Pools was very competitive in their bid and at the end of the day we truly felt that David was the right choice for us because of his experience and personal accountability to his business. We wanted someone who was actually involved in the process after we signed the paperwork and personally understood each and every step of the construction. Both he and Todd are very hands on and involved on a day to day basis and always made themselves available for any questions or concerns we might raise. Their communication in regards to any adjustment to the timeline (there were few) or costs (typically initiated by us) were diligently and professionally handled over the entire term of the project. I think that it is very important to note that each and every one of their tradesmen or sub-contracted vendors were equally as professional, considerate and skilled as they are. All were friendly and helpful. A brief example of something that I was quite pleasantly impressed with. Our excavation was particularly tricky both with the hardness of the soil and the extremely tight quarters in removing the soil and rock across an existing patio and out through a newly constructed cabana/BBQ area. With a little bit of pre-planning and some minimal requests on our part, the excavation crew did an amazing job of of getting the work done with absolutely no damage to our patio or BBQ area. They were friendly, attentive and at the end of each day made a concerted effort to clean up prior to leaving for the day. When the excavation was completed, I expected to come home to a weekend of cleaning up after the tremendous amount of work they had done, only to find that they had cleaned every bit of area that they had impacted over the previous week's worth of work. The masonry and tile work for our pool and deck is first rate and looks phenomenal. We decided to have a faux rock waterfall installed in conjunction with the spa. Probably the single part of the project I was least educated on the process of and most concerned about how the finished product would look. Todd personally crafted and oversaw it's build. He worked with me on what elements and feel we were trying to achieve and did a simply masterful job of implementing it. The waterfall came out amazing. Both David and Todd personally handled the permitting procedures and multitude of inspections. I didn't have to involve myself in a single inspection or city paperwork process throughout the entire project. Something I was very appreciative of. This has been one of the best project experiences we've had. No surprises, direct, timely and straightforward communication. Excellent workmanship when it was all said and done. The pool is simply stunning..

It took me 3 calls to get anyone to call me back. Finally set up an appointment. I believe his name was Dave and his attitude was like he was doing us a favor. We never got a quote on the pool and hardscapes. Dave promised a quote within a week and we never heard from them again. Tried 2 more times to contact- nothing- going with Swinks Creations- very professional

I signed a contract and paid a deposit on Dave's first visit based on our initial meeting. Swan was the third company I asked for a quote for the pool work described above. Dave and I walked around the pool area discussing various options and challenges associated with remodeling a pool constructed in 1958. He offered some excellent suggestions on how we could minimize costs, but, at the end of the day, he deferred to my preferences on some specific details. When we finished defining the scope of the project Dave asked if I would like to know how much the work would cost. He pulled out a calculator, priced the work, and showed me the price while we were sitting at the table in my backyard. He said he was able to give me an on the spot quote because he had been doing this type of work for decades and because he owned the company. Work began as scheduled and completed about two weeks early. We were amazed at the speed of the project given the complexity of the work being performed. All of his subcontractors were craftsman of the first order and everything was finished to our complete satisfaction.

When we met to go over estimate the provider noticed another drawing/estimate I had, and asked me if I was getting other estimates. I adviced him that I was getting other estimates. He then informed me that If I was getting other estimates that there would be no reason for us to continue are meeting and that he would not be able to do the work for me. He gathered his things and just walked out of the meeting. How can any one put a pool and completely hard/land scape an entire home front and back and not get multiple estimates.

I messaged Dave on Angie's and he called the same night. Came by the following day and provided an estimate. Seemed fair and he was very responsive, so I hired him and gave a $300 deposit. His crew showed up 3 days later, as discussed, and everything went as planned. Every step of the way, Dave stopped by to check on the work, collect partial payments, answer questions. After all of the terrible flakes I've found in this city, it was refreshing to find someone who did what they said they were going to do, on time, with no drama, and for the quoted price. So, don't hesitate, he's the real deal and I couldn't recommend higher. He even came by two days later, after final payment, because there was a tiny question we had.

Replace old/outdated Poll Filter Equipment. Company arrived late for installation due to heavy traffic this day. I was willing to put it off until next day but they insisted on meeting their commitment. Installation was efficient as was removal of old gear. Workers were professional and worked into darkness to make sure all was good before they left. Dave, owner, was in constant contact with us throughout and wouldn't accept final payment until I was completely satisfied with job. After his personal inspection, approval of installation by his workers and various pressure tests, etc. I sure was.

This was one of the greatest experiences with a contractor and I've had a lot.||Swan Pools West got the job, because they were the most competitive on pricing, while still having top reviews on their work. The only reason I rated price B is because I had to pay all stages upfront before they were done. Maybe it's just me but I prefer to pay when the job is actually done and approved and not before. It could be that they had to do this, because some people don't pay?||But when that is said the owner Dave was amazing all the way through and you can trust that he ensures that they deliver what is promised and more. He had 3 different teams for each stage of the project and he showed up personally to ensure that they did it right. Every time I contacted him, he responded immediately and ensured me that everything would turn out great - and it did. One of the teams did not clean up properly and he took action right away and made sure it was handled.||After the job was handled to my full satisfaction Swan Pools also did the startup service for me which was perfect. They made sure that everything was running great and made it easy for the regular pool maintenace to take over, which will start this week.||I highly recommend Swan Pools West. Not only are you getting a good prize, but they really deliver a high quality result. And the owner Dave and his son Tood are super nice too.

I met with David and he gave me his prices for changing the plaster, color, pool system.... Right there which was very competitive but also broken down the way I could understand. We started the work which was the first contractor in my project that was on time, no change order , and no issue!!! He was so useful and his suggestions were great and even I started getting advise about other part of my project. Knowledgable and knew more than my own general contractor. He did a great job with the pool , concrete around the pool, driveway, and my porch.

From the very first meeting, Dave was extremely professional and conscientious. We had numerous contractors from Angie's list provide estimates for the job. Dave provided the fairest bid of all the contractors; (he didn't low ball the estimate just to get the work). In addition, as we made changes during the process, the incremental charges were always very reasonable. Dave and his crew were extremely punctual, tidy and professional throughout the six week progress. I received daily reports on progress and always knew what to expect. Any time we had any issues (every large construction job has them), Dave would take ownership of the problem and ensure it was resolved to our satisfaction. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the work that Dave provided. The quality is first class and we would highly recommend them any other Angie's list member.

The pool was built in 1957 and they had fiberglass in the pool and it had separated from the plaster underneath. He gave an estimate that was way below the others we received. His estimate included stone work and a waterfall. He?s very accommodating. They put in a hose bin so nobody would trip over it, and made adjustments to it to accommodate my disability. He also solved a moisture problem we were experiencing in our home. He knew we didn't have enough drains just by looking. He put in a drain to the front of the property and removed a lot of earth, creating an airflow. This solved our moisture problem.

In the summer of 2012, my wife and I began investigating pool companies and the pool installation process. We had 3 companies come visit us, show us photos of pools they had designed and installed, and we even had one company draw up plans. Unfortunately, we were not financially prepared for the project. In April of 2013, we started this process again with the help of Angie's List. Based on the excellent reviews, and quite frankly the comment about Dave's straight forward demeanor, we chose Swan Pools West. We had planned on calling several other companies, but as you'll soon understand, we didn't need to. We called Swan Pools West to arrange a visit. The woman that we spoke to was very friendly, recorded all of our information and promised a prompt call back from the company vice president. Less than ten minutes later, Todd Lewis returned the call and confirmed an appointment that was convenient for us. Todd arrived precisely on time (actually I think he was 10 minutes early but waited until the agreed appointment) and we immediately knew we were in good hands for this project. Todd took the time to introduce himself, explained his position in the company (Dave's son) and got to know us and our pool project vision. We discussed our back yard shape, our thoughts on pool position and orientation, the tracking of sunshine across the backyard, and even the very pleasant woman that answered their phone (we were not surprised, it was his mom). Todd took the time to consider all of our thoughts and then related other similar installations. This proved every helpful as some of our ideas would have been counter productive to our visions for our pool enjoyment. With all of the facts, figures, and our dreams firmly on paper, Todd made an appointment with us to return with some initial plans. After this initial visit, my wife and I were quite sure Todd (aka Swan Pools West) would be the one to build our pool. No, we hadn't discussed price or timing but I expected them to acceptable based on the review's in Angie's. We weren't disappointed. During our next visit Todd presented plans that perfectly matched our mental image of our pool in the area of our yard that best utilized our space. We discussed pricing, timing, extras that we might like (we did like them but thought we couldn't afford the additional cost), and just as importantly, got to know each other more. Generally, we enter into projects with businesses based on the quality of their product and the quality of their people. We'd heard about and could see photos of Swan Pool's product quality. After visiting with the other pool company representatives the year before, Todd far and away topped our list for people we'd trust and want to work with. We weren't disappointed. Just before we were ready to submit plans to the city, we changed our minds about the extras (now we're very glad we did). Todd took it all in stride, update the drawings and off they went. This was typical of working with Todd. If we wanted it and it made sense, he was totally onboard with it. Our construction process was slated to last 8 - 10 weeks which would have put us in the water the week after July 4th but we understood the reasons (you'll soon see why I said 'would have'). The most pleasant part about this whole construction experience was how in control Todd was of every piece of it. He was here when they first laid out the placement with stakes and string to the point when we put the hose in the pool and turned on the faucet. Todd would call me before, during, and after each step of the way and wasn't a bit annoyed with me filming as much of it as I could. I also loved the calls from Todd telling me he was able to get the 'steel guys' or the 'gunite crew' several days early. In fact every crew showed up almost as soon as the previous crew finished. What started out as an 8 to10 weeks project finished in 6 weeks and six days. We were in the water a full week before July 4th and especially during the hottest weekend of the summer, so far. Todd returned several times following the filling of the pool to install the automatic pool cleaner and to start up the salt water system. Our new pool and spa is absolutely beautiful and we use it almost daily. Our children and grand children are here almost every weekend which is an added benefit for us. We can't thank Swan Pools West enough and especially Todd for making this a very pleasant experience and providing a beautiful, high quality pool!

I met with six contractors before I chose Lucky 7, Dave, the owner of Swan Pools West. I was tired of the process and getting different information and wildly different estimates but I finally met someone I trusted, Dave. Dave examined my old pool which had ancient broken tiles, cracked coping, chipped plaster that had been painted instead of replaced in the past, and very old equipment. He recommended various updates and was extremely aware of keeping the project within my budget, offering various options. Dave took me to choose the tile and coping stones in person, so I could actually see them rather than choose from a brochure. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything from equipment, plumbing, electrical, materials, and aesthetics. His team was on time every day, they were extremely detailed in their work, they cleaned up every day (it's a dusty process blasting out your old pool!), and the project was done exactly when he said it would be finished. My favorite part was that Dave turned a section of my pool that had been a 6x5x2-foot deep "kiddie" pool into a proper Jacuzzi spa, complete with jets and a mega-heater and a waterfall feature trickling into the pool (when I want to use it), and the extra cost for that was minimal. That alone was worth the price of the project. No other contractor had even thought of such a thing! The total price was absolutely fair, Dave made sure my new equipment was eligible for DWP rebates where applicable and helped me with the forms, so I was able to recoup most of the equipment cost. Dave takes an extreme amount of pride in his work and made an appointment with me after the project was finished to be sure I understood how to use the equipment, troubleshoot if needed, work the features, and that I was pleased with the outcome and the look of everything. Answer? I could not be more pleased! According to a Realtor friend, my property value has increased with this much-needed and beautiful update by 2.5 times what I paid for the project. Without hesitation I recommend Swan Pools.

Swan Pools and Dave Lewis are great. They performed all work as promised, in a timely fashion and on budget. Dave is honest, returns your phone calls and shows up when he says he will show up. The quality of the work was superb. I offer Dave Lewis and Swan Pools my unqualified, enthusiastic recommendation.

I called Dave Lewis to get an estimate on the job. At the appointment, he was able to give me an estimate. I contacted two other contractors. I decided to go with Swan, because Dave was responsive, knowledgable, and professional. The same two workers came every day. They were professional and diligent. We had two rainy days where they weren't able to work, but they continued on schedule as soon as it stopped raining. Dave met us at a local building supply company so we could pick out our new stone. We also decided to upgrade to a stacked veneer. Dave drew up a contract change for us to sign so we knew the additional cost. Dave was on site almost every day. It took two weeks from demo to completion.
