There was water on our carpet in our master bathroom and there was a break in our guest bathroom in the wall. He removed the medicine cabinet and replaced the broken pipe. The service was very good. We called and within the hour he was here. He left the area reasonably clean given the circumstances. He was pretty prompt.

We've had a problem for years with one side of the house's sewer. I'd snake it every few months and we were fine. Then it became every month, every week and every day. O/K time to fix it. Called out a couple of the Rooter companies in the area to get guesstimates. $1600 and $1900 to dig and cut out a section of pipe that was root bound just outside one of the bathrooms, then install a 2 way clean out manifold. Seemed VERY pricey, so I checked prices on the fittings at Home Depot and found the parts were about a hundred bucks. Now it seemed I was about to get ripped off. Called this local company, Sketchley & Mason Plumbing. Jeff came out and assessed the problem. He seemed very knowledgeable and familiar with the situation. He said to save money I could dig the hole and he would stop by and fix the problem when I was ready. O/K a couple hours of digging and refilling the hole. Not bad and I got to drink beer while doing it. He came by, spent 2 hours cutting out the old section of clay pipe, pulling a root ball out that was 4in thick and at least 5ft long, then making the 2 way clean out system and installing it. Saved me over $1000!!!! A more honest, knowledgeable person I could NOT have asked for. SKETCHLEY & MASON PLUMBING, they're the S**T(plumbing joke). Sewer flow is good!! THANKS!!!!!!

We were looking to put on a second bathroom. It would have been receiving a toilet and moving some lines, put in a sink. So, it was not a small job. But we were still able to find another provider that will able to do for that. The service that he was offering was quite nice and he was very personable which I believe is the owner. I did not really have any other companies other than the price. That was a brilliant discount.

Unbelievable! I left a message on Monday evening (after hours) about the water heater leaking and that we would need a new one. Since they had put the old one in many years ago, I knew that they would be able to handle this very difficult installation. Bill called the next morning and arranged the schedule so that by noon and four guys later the water heater was installed and we were very happy! I can't thank them enough for all the work, because I know that this was not an easy job! The cleanup was great and there was no mess for me to take care of later. Considering all that needed to be done, I felt the fee was fair. Can't say enough good things about all of them!

On Dec.7, 2014 I made a verbal agreement with Jeff Riddle, the owner of Sketchley and Mason, Inc., to begin work on the repair of my area drains. He said he couldn?t start the project till around the middle of Dec. He also said he would give me a discount on cameraing the drains. And said I could hire my gardener to dig the needed trenches to save money. On 12-10-14 he sent his employee, Bill, to check what needed to be done on my area drains. Bill sent Rob to camera the drains on 12-13-14, at the cost of $150.00. Each time I had contact with these two employees, I was told they could begin the job around the end of Dec. And both seemed to not like Jeff?s ?deal? with me: They constantly reminded me of their hourly wages and prices, as though I were a welfare case, and would continue to take skin off their backs with more expected discounts. Bill told me to let him know when I had dug the trenches so he, the Supervisor, could come out and draw up the final plan. So around 12/16/14 I called him to set up this visit. Dec. 20, a Friday, was the only day he could come. He let me know this visit would cost me $100.00, and I agreed to pay him. (BTW, I accommodated Bill, though Friday is my gardeners' day and I needed to be overseeing what they were doing.) But when that date came, Bill sent his underling, instead. And about all he, Rob, did was to look at the job site a bit and then write out in words the verbal estimate I had already heard a number of times from him and Bill. Then he charged me $85.00, his rate for coming out. After that he then let me know my job could not be started till the end of January!! I was beginning to see that I was being put on the back burner till if and when a more lucrative job did not come first for this plumbing company. So I checked my assumption out by giving them even till Feb. 6th to make good on their word. But not once in all this time did they get back to me. Meanwhile my yard sat with gaping trenches, the ground drying out and my plants dying, while I waited for Sketchley and Mason to begin the area drain repairs. Had I known they would not be able to start my desperately-needed area-drain job till ?the end of Jan.,? about two months from when I first called Jeff, I would never have had anyone come out at all. And I certainly would NOT have paid his underling to come just to give me a written bid! (Besides, Jeff told me ?the Estimate? for the job was free. And it should have been written out by the first time Bill came.) Furthermore, I could get free camera inspections done by other plumbers scaring up jobs. But because a mutual acquaintance had recommended Jeff, and because Jeff?s company had been the best one I had gotten a Bid from, I chose to pay him to camera my drains. In the end, Jeff?s company cost me an added $235.00 over and above the cost of having to call a different plumbing company to do my job. When I called Jeff on Feb.6 to complain about the unnecessary $85.00 charge, etc., he said he would get back to me. Instead he had Bill call me ? so more Round-Robin! Bill woke me at 7:20 AM the next morning. He was so irate that I would dare to voice a complaint to his boss that he wouldn?t let me have a word in edgewise. I had to butt in to say anything and even then Bill just repeated himself for the 3rd time, and ignored what I tried to explain. So I gave up and hung up on him. I re-called Jeff that evening. I was taken aback by his response: He recapitulated a story given him by Bill and Rob (to clean their slate) that not only denigrated me, but is the most preposterous and paranoid tale I have ever heard! Suffice it to say, I have filed a complaint with Visa to get back the $85.00 unfairly charged by Jeff?s employees. (It was bad enough that they took my time and money to start the job, by cameraing the drains, etc., then did not keep their word as to the start date. But after that they simply left me holding the bag for the next who-knows-how-long-it-would-be before they might ever start my job! So the least they could do is return the $85.00 they charged for a misrepresented and unnecessary trip!

Response from Sketchley & Mason Inc
Sketchley & Mason was contacted by [member name removed] to inspect an issue she was having with her landscape area drainage system at her residence. Our owner Jeff Riddle Sr. went out on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 to do a consultation with [member name removed]. It was explained to [member name removed] that the drain line would need to be cameraed or snaked. [member name removed] informed our owner that she was on a retired school teacher on a fixed income. Jeff Sr told the homeowner that we could provide her with a discount to complete the cameraing if she chose to do so. Jeff Sr spent 2 hours that Saturday with [member name removed], but did not charge her for his time. On December 10th Sketchley & Mason sent out their senior technician Bill to attempt to snake lines, but due to rains was unable to do any work to because of the probability of electrical shock issue from the snaking equipment. It was just not safe to do the work in the rain. Bill spent 2 hours discussing the best possible resolves for the customer’s drain issues. Bill did not charge for the consultation with [member name removed]. After the rains, our other senior technician Robby returned with the camera equipment to camera the drain lines. [member name removed] was given her discount for the camera fee as promised by our owner. The customer was satisfied, signed the original invoice, and paid in full with a credit card for services rendered that day. Upon completion of cameraing [member name removed]’s lines, Bill returned and gave the customer a verbal quote to complete the job. There was no charge for the estimate. The customer informed Sketchley & Mason that estimate was too high and out of her price range and that she would have her gardener complete the project. No contract was ever drafted or signed by either party. Bill said that was okay and he understood. On December 20th [member name removed] called Sketchley & Mason and asked us to come out to provide a field observation of the work done by her gardener. Our senior technician Bill said we could come out, but we would need to charge a service fee of one hour. The customer agreed and our senior technician Robby went out to provide the field observation as requested by the homeowner. Sketchley & Mason went out and gave [member name removed] a senior citizen discount on her invoice. The customer was satisfied, signed the invoice, and paid in full with a credit card at time of service. Sketchley & Mason regrets [member name removed] feels the job wasn’t done to her satisfaction. The customer was given approximately 8 hours of service, but only charged for 2.5 hours. While the customer has stated that she feels it’s unfair to pay the extra $85, that fee was explained up front before we went out to her home. Each time the customer signed the original work orders and paid in full with a credit card. Ultimately, she decided to have her gardeners complete the work instead of using Sketchley & Mason’s services to keep the cost down. As a result, it appears [member name removed] is not happy with the finished product done by others, but seems to be upset with Sketchley & Mason. Sketchley & Mason only provided camera service, field observation per the homeowner’s request, and the knowledge to educate her of her drainage issues. It is clear to us that [member name removed] was uncomfortable with the gardeners work, this is why she called us out to observe the work in progress and willing to pay for our services. She now seems to have changed her position. We always try to give the homeowner’s options for their repairs. However, she eliminated us from the resolution. We regret any dissatisfaction the homeowner experienced as a result of work done by others. Surprisingly to us, after 45 days the homeowner was requesting a refund of her $85.

When we need a plumber, Sketchley & Mason is on our short 'go to' list.
Description of Work: These guys are great! This time we had a 'jammed open' faucet for the ice-maker. Since we were replacing the refrigerator, this was a real 'gotcha'. They came out (quickly) and resolved the issue. We had them out previously for another 'calamity' and likewise, they did an excellent, professional job. That's why we called them back!

During a bathroom renovation we received bids for work to be done from three or four plumbers in total. Sketchley & Mason were next to the least expensive. We were impressed with the professionalism and honesty of our first meeting with Peter, who actually showed up on time. Work (removal of old cast iron tub and installing a new cast iron tub, plumbing fixtures for tub/shower (valve and trim), installing vanity plumbing (including adjusting location of pipes) was scheduled a short time later and was performed neatly, and in a timely manner. The estimate we were given was in a price range from $650 to $850. Can you believe we were actually billed for the lesser amount? We have had a few occasions since to use their services for clogged drains, etc., and just like previous experiences, they were on time, cleaned up after work was done, and were very reasonable for charges.
Description of Work: I have had work performed by Sketchley & Mason several times in the past, mostly during bathroom renovation that we were mostly doing ourselves. Their prices for services were not the lowest, but were very reasonable. Each time they came, they were very punctual, clean, and honest about the work to be done, when there could have been an opportunity to "pad" the job. I have recommended Sketchley and Mason many times with complete confidence that friends and family will be pleased with the service and will use them again.

The job was an interesting mystery...and went well. We spent two very cold nights, but that was unavoidable, certainly nobody's fault except the carpet guy, and my wife and I got to snuggle. This plumbing company's prices are fair -- less per hour than what the larger companies charge. We've already called Sketchley & Mason back again to take care of a different, smaller problem. We recommend them.
Description of Work: We had a gas leak that we could smell but not locate. Sketchley & Mason sent out a good man who shut down all gas outlets then did a pressure test. He found there was indeed a leak, but not at any known accessible valve point. A tester with special equipment was called in the next day and he found the leak under a section of floor upstairs. Turns out that when we had new carpet installed upstairs recently, nails had been hammered into the floor to stop a squeek. One of those nails hit the gas pipe that crosses inside the floor to the kitchen stove on the other side of the house--a leak impossible to locate without the specialized detection equipment called in. Holes were cut, and the section of gas pipe was replaced.

There are no problems here. In fact, we have had the guys out to do several other projects since this one. They are always on time and always prepared for the work at hand.
