Bob Palacios has been a leader in the masonry industry since 1983. His experience and expertise in the field allow him to provide service for almost every type of project. Bob specializes in everything from small repairs to large new construction work!
Bob is a wonderful communicator. He showed up on the nose for the estimate and not only told us what he could do with our crumbling rock wall issue but gave us great ideas for another part of our property. I didn't feel rushed and when he left I had a complete feeling of confidence in him and his crew. Since a little bit of time went by after the initial estimate, Bob came out again to refresh himself about the job at hand. He delivered the estimate as promised. Two days later (it would have been the next day but it rained), Bob and three crew members showed up early in the morning, exactly when he said they would. Our initial estimate was for two crew members for two days but since they were busy when we were ready to start our job, and I told him were were not in a hurry and would wait until they were available, he provided a third crew member at no additional cost as a thank you for our patience. Bob made sure I was introduced to each of his crew members and made sure I was comfortable speaking with the foreman before he left. He told me they would do whatever I would like. The crew was mine for two days and he wanted me to be pleased. The crew got right to work and worked hard. Bob called me twice the first day to see how I was feeling about the progress. The crew did a beautiful job. They even cleaned up after the first day and were there bright and early the next day to finish up the job. The rock walls look great. I could not be more pleased with Bob and his crew and with the end result. I have already recommended him to a neighbor and would use his services again in a heartbeat should something come up.
Description of Work: Bob's crew repaired the crumbling rock walls which are all over on our 1.25 acre property.

Our beautiful ficus trees were destroyed by rain and then winds. They crashed over our block wall-- Bob was highly recommended on Angie's List and I can see why. His crew came right away to repair the wall damage. He is a very nice concientious man and an absolute pleasure to deal with. I highly recomend him.
Description of Work: extensive repair of block wall and wood topper along the side of my property which was ruined when after a rain and wind storm toppled two of my fiscus trees--Bob had to clear the wreckage first, which was a lot of work.

Bob and his crew did a fantastic job on many levels. He stayed on budget and kept to his original bid. He was an excellent communicator, made each appointment 'on time,' and met every one of his time commitments. His crew was polite, organized, and professional. The overall quality of his work was outstanding and I hope to work with him again in the future.

I called a lot of companies in my area to repair a small part of a block wall, 10 X 15ft, because an unknown someone acted like a jerk and crashed into my block wall and took off without leaving a note. Most companies wouldn?t repair it because they only work on big projects. I found Robert Palacios Masonry from Angie?s list. Because I am deaf, my mother called, they spoke to her in nice/professional way and checked my wall in a reasonable amount of time. He gave me a fair price and started working on it a few days after the paperwork was signed. The crew showed up in the early morning and finished the job in a few hours. Truthfully, I was worried because I?ve heard that some companies do sloppy jobs and do not clean up well. But, the crew from Robert Palacios Masonry DID a GREAT job! They made the wall perfectly even/nice and cleaned up well! It was also very nice of the crew to repair a damaged brick (tree root lifted block up) without my asking. I was so amazed and I will call them again if I need them, and would certainly recommend them to my friends.

We telephoned Bob and explained what we needed. We wanted to repair cracks in the mortar in our brickwork and also repair some cracked bricks, etc. Bob came right out to our home to give us an estimate. He put a two-man crew on our job -- Nicho and Augustine. Our job was supposed to be a two-day job, but when we saw how nicely the work was turning out we decided to keep going and repair more than we originally contracted to do. We really liked the end result so we just kept going/repairing! Bob is a terrific guy! Very professional, nice and friendly -- and his crew (Nicho and Augustine) do excellent work -- also very professional and nice! Nicho and Augustine are very hard workers and they are true craftsman. It was obvious to us that they take great pride in their work and they did an excellent job for us. Bob came by to check on them, periodically, and to make sure that we were satisfied with the work that was being done. Augustine and Nicho were very careful with our patio furniture and covered what we wanted them to protect with plastic. They also covered our Jacuzzi with plastic so that the dust from sanding/cutting the mortar would not go into the Jacuzzi. Nicho and Augustine cleaned up each day and left our backyard in great condition until they returned the next day. A BIG plus with us!!! All in all it was a great experience. I would not say that Bob was the least expensive contractor we could have hired -- but we believe in getting what you pay for and we don't mind paying a little bit more to get a great result -- and we, indeed, got a great result! We are rehiring Bob and his crew to replace our mailbox in our brick column out front. The column has to be taken apart and rebuilt around the new mailbox. We only trust Bob and his crew to do it!
Description of Work: We have a two-story brick colonial home with extensive brick patio/decking in our backyard and also in the front of our home where we have brick walkways and stairs. Bob's crew removed cracked grout/mortar and regrouted with mortar (tuc pointing) our existing brickwork on our property; front entry, backyard and pool area.

What a pleasure it is to work with a nice person like Bob! He fixed my gate today, while I wait to talk to my husband about the estimate on our stucco wall this evening! There aren't many people that would do that..most people would have provided an estimate and waited for the bigger job, leaving me in a bind. When you find someone like Bob you keep them! I put his number in my cellphone today.

Robert was very professional from the beginning. I called him to set up 2 appts to provide fee estimate on d*** concrete for (1) our rental property's side yard and (2) front yard and back yard of our house. Although we're located on the edge of areas serviced by Robert, he made an effort to drive out here and give a quote. On top of that, he was able to come out on such short notice, because our rental was in escrow at the time so we had a very short window of time to work with. Robert was very up front and honest about pricing, scope of work, and quality/longevity of the various products we discussed. His quote was also on the lower end of the spectrum. Unfortunately, we backed out of escrow on the investment property (purchased another that didn't need concrete work) and still haven't made a decision as to our own yard, but Robert remains on our list of contractors to consider when my husband and I finally have the chance to discuss the yard project!

Bob was professional, knowledgeable, and straightforward about the work needed for our home. His expertise was why we ultimately hired him for this job over other contractors. His pricing was competitive, even though he seemed to have more expertise/experience than other contractors that we spoke with. He and his team were prompt, clean, and very courteous about making the 2-day job as painless as possible for us. We were not inconvenienced at all by the workers, even though they required a number of supplies for the wall. The wall went up with no problems, and looks great, in addition to serving its purpose. We actually find that the wall is an improvement to the overall curb appeal of our home. We would highly recommend Bob and his team for any masonry projects. In fact, we will likely hire him again.
Description of Work: Robert Palacios Masonry created a sluff wall (small retaining wall) to prevent dirt from falling into the road by my home, and to slow erosion of the hill. The wall was built from cinderblock and was 2'-3' high with drainage and water-proofing.

We were looking to transform our hillside into a functional space that our entire family could enjoy. After meeting with several well reviewed companies, we went with Bob because of his customer reviews, experience and attitude. After doing many projects and getting burned by some contractors in the past I really wanted someone I felt I could trust trust. After my first meeting with Bob I immediately felt he was fair and a genuinely good guy...and after a very complicated project I like him even more! He wasn't the most expensive, he wasn't the least expensive but there's no doubt in my mind that he was the best! If you're looking for a truly skilled craftsman that you can trust, Bob is your guy! We hired a designer to create a vision for our hillside but it was up to Bob to take that vision and bring it to life. We needed massive excavation, 100+ linear feet of 4-6 ft. retaining walls, concrete steps for several levels and a 900 sq. ft. concrete pad to be used as a basketball court / play area. From the very beginning Bob was proactive in making sure everything went smoothly. He pointed out a few things that didn't work in the design but he had solutions on how to fix it without compromising the vision. He was truly an asset to our project! Throughout the project Bob was always thinking about the future. From making sure we had adequate drainage, to waterproofing, to building walls stronger than they needed to be, he wanted to make sure we wouldn't have any problems now or in the future! That was something I really appreciated about the quality of Bob's work. It wasn't just about making you happy the day he finished the project, he wants you to be happy 10 years from now. Bob's crew was just as great! They showed up on time everyday! That was one of the most refreshing things. There is nothing more frustrating than contractors telling you they're going to show up then getting some excuse later on about why they're not there. This did not happen once with Bob and his crew...they were there every day, they were on time and always hard at work. His crew was not only talented and hard working but they were super easy to work with and handled every request like it was no big deal. The quality of the work from Bob and his team was outstanding! All the retaining walls were perfect. Symmetry was very important to our design because of the architecture of our house and he went out of his way to make sure we were happy. If any of the block walls needed to be adjusted, we came up with a plan and it was done the next day. One example of him going above and beyond was early on in the project Bob adjusted the footings of an entire wall for us in order to increase the size of the basketball court which was going to be a play area for our kids! The concrete finishing and steps came out beautifully. No flaws and they look amazing. Bob even called me before the concrete dried to remind me to bring the kids down so they could put their handprints in the court. To me that shows just how much he cares about his clients. The quality of his work is top notch but it's his personal attention that really sets him apart. I could go on and on about all the positives about hiring Bob. We worked closely on this project for 6 weeks and it was truly a pleasure. He was on top of everything, always let me know when he needed decisions from me and the end result was amazing. The question everyone always asks about contractors is would you hire him again? The answer is absolutely YES! In fact we've already started working on a new project. We will be breaking ground in about a month and I know it will be another great experience!
Description of Work: Bob transformed our unusable hillside into a multi-level, one of a kind, usable space. Bob handled all excavation, masonry, drainage and concrete with ease and did an amazing job! The hillside was excavated and 100+ linear feet of 4-6 ft. retaining walls were added creating three usable levels. Level one is a small landing. Level two is a 15'X 35' grass area. Level 3 is a 35' X 25' concrete basketball court/play area. Steps were built down the hillside in order to connect all the levels.

This is the best brick job I have ever had done by far!! This guy knows his trade 100%. Super accurate and uniform grout joints, perfect cuts, water drainage slopes so NO puddles of water, sloped to drains, unbelievable radius work and uniformity and kept job very clean and tidy. This guy has all the professional equipment too. Came with wet brick saws so the yard was not a dust bowl, had many wheel barrows, trowels, joint tools, hoses, brooms and just about anything you would need to do the job right! Thanks, BOB

My neighbors and my family got together to replace old wood fences with new block walls. Bob's cost estimate was not the cheapest. Nor was it the most expensive. However his firm's combination of a reasonable price, professional approach, willingness to work with us through our Homeowner's Association and city approval process and complete professional credentials (licenses, insurance, etc), led us to choose his firm. He provided us with the necessary information for us to submit the project for approval by our Association and was quite patient as our Association dicked around with the approval. He then successfully shepherded us through the city permitting process. Once these tasks were accomplished, he scheduled us for the demolition of the old fence and construction of the new. He did what he said he'd do. The demolition/removal of the old fence, digging and pouring of the footings, construction of the new fence and application of the stucco covering went as planned, to code and according to the cost estimate. Cleanup and material management throughout the project was spot on. And his guys were courteous, knew what they were doing and hardworking. He was even kind enough to put up a temporary fence in my back yard so that my dog could have access to same. I have stalled in writing this evaluation to see if the fence would crack or settle in the time that has passed. So far I note no deficiencies. I've asked my neighbors who participated in this project their opinion and all are as pleased as I am with the results. I believe that at least one of them have also submitted a positive review. I would not hesitate to recommend Bob's firm to anybody else. As a matter of fact, I already have! And I would hire him again for any masonry work I need done.

I have nothing but good things to say about our experience with Bob Palacios. He provided a very competitive price for a licensed contractor. He was very professional. He always explained what to expect, what was included and what was not included. There were no surprise additional costs. He tried to over-communicate to ensure no surprises. He was on schedule. His guys arrived early and worked hard all day. They cleaned up after the job. It felt like I was dealing with someone with honesty and integrity. I chose the split face blocks and the other side has stucco, which was selected by my neighbor. The walls all look great! All five neighbors are happy.
Description of Work: The project was with a total of 5 neighbors and 4 walls (60 ft each + 5 foot returns on some sides). Some neighbors chose split face blocks and others chose stucco. Bob Palacios tore down the existing wooden fences and replaced with block walls. He also submitted and obtained the city permits. My portion of the job was for two 60' walls (plus a 5 foot return), with cost shared by adjoining neighbors. We obtained an iron gate separately.

We had asked for other estimates but Bob was the only one who came out and gave us one in a timely manner and at no cost. We've two dogs so the gate must be kept closed at all times. Bob left some fencing to make this easy to do. The gate took longer than expected which was due to the repair shop, not Bob. Other than that, Bob's a man of his word. He says he's going to do something and he does it. I am impressed by his knowledge of the masonry business. His offer to re-hang the hose bracket at no charge for my wife did not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. The final result is two beautifully built and capped brick walls separated by what looks like a brand new painted wrought iron gate. The bottomline is we are very delighted with his work, would hire him again and highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Bob was asked to rebuild two walls separated by a metal rusted out wrought iron gate the original builder had put in a way that left a lot to be desired. Fortunately, Bob had done work for this builder before and he knew the these type of walls were built uniquely. He also knew the footing needed to be completely removed and replaced. He also suggested a total rebuild of two approximately four foot long brick walls and the refurbishment of the gate. We swapped out the 3" wide brick for 6" wide brick and the new walls look fantastic. Then he went onto hang a hose bracket for my wife at no cost. He also came back and repainted the gate because the paint had not dried when it was first hung.

After 20+ years of maintenance costs and problems with sidewalk traffic issues, we decided to completely remove a 2-door swinging redwood gate to the back yard and wall it off, once and for all. After speaking with selected contractors about the job, we decided to go with Bob Palacios Masonry. Bob's demeanor was friendly yet professional, and of the contractors we contacted, he appeared to offer the widest choice of options to complete the task. This indicated to us that he'd been at this profession for quite some time, and experience is an important factor. In this case, Bob's experience paid off because it turned out this was not a straightforward piece of brickwork. There were numerous challenges involved in order to do the job correctly. For example, there was an adjoining retaining wall that required reshaping with a concrete saw and jack hammer, and the adjoining wall on a neighboring property was not structurally sound enough to tie into. Bob and his team performed the extra work to get the job done right, resulting in a solid build as well as one that is aesthetically pleasing in every way-- from the perfect saw-tooth seam with the existing wall, to the last grout detail that others may have ignored. This job was completed over the course of two days, over which time Bob kept in regular communication. The fee included demolition of the gate and existing masonry where necessary, and haul-off. The crew left the job site neater than when they started! Highly recommended!

He resecued me from a diaster. An unlicensed contractor built a wall and it was condemed by the city. Rob came in and designed a plan the city approved. He brought in an engineer as well. It had to be a retaining wall and had to be 9"ft height by 90 feet. It required an engineer foundation. The key was the engineer's report. He was excellent and the crew was outstanding. It passed inspection, he was great and did a phenemonal job. The price was good, professionalism was great, everything was great.

I left a message for Bob in the morning and he called me back the same afternoon. He came out the next day to view the site and i had an estimate from him by the following day. He was my fourth estimate and Bob in came slightly under the other bids. I chose Bob for two reasons. First because of the " A" reviews on Angie's and second because of his open and approachable personality. Throughout the entire job, Bob was very easy to deal with. He would come to site every morning and always checked in with me to see if I was satisfied with the work that had been completed at that point. Bob would, also, always check in with me in afternoon. if i need to call him and did not connect, he would call me back in five minutes. I'm in the San Gabriel Valley, and Bob is in Simi Valley, but he and his crew were on time, every single morning. Bob's foreman Necio was equally as responsive and responsible when Bob was not present. Work was very professionally done in an efficient and timely manner It looks beautiful. Bob and his crew have great attention to detail. if something needs to be moved in of course of the work, it was put back exactly as it was or in a number of case it was put back in a neater and more organized fashion then it had been in originally. Also because the wall is near a property line with my neighbors, Bob's crew took on themselves to work with the neighbors to limit disruptions to their schedule. But what really sums up my experience with Bob, is when I was having trouble with the lock on my brand new gate. The guy that installed it was out of town, so Bob came out and fixed gate for no charge. He is definitely willing to go above and beyond what is expected so that is why he get's an A+ from me.

We have rehabbed a home in Woodland Hills. Since we decided to take on this task we have used 4 Angie's List contractors including Bob Palacios and have been 100% satisfied every time. I called Bob on Monday and left a message for a return call for an estimate. He called me back the same day. He asked that I forward him some photos of the task. He called me back that same evening and we arrived a time the next day for a job walk. He was right on time. We walked the job and as you might read in his other reviews, he is warm, professional, and just a real nice guy to interact with. He will work with you and give you advice that might save you a ton of money later because putting you plan or vision together might not be efficient as what he can do for you and he will advise you of ways to make the job right and save you money as well. As we walked this job he gave us a price, no waiting. I told him new tenant's were moving in this weekend and I would really like this done if possible. We shook hands and I said let do it! I "did not" get other other bids. I am a retired Plant Operation Director and know my trades well...... and know what the market prices are today. I asked Bob, how much deposit do you need? He replied NONE and went on to say, pay me when we are done................... The work was completed today 6/21/13. The work is "excellent", the clean up was "excellent" as well. Also important was.... he was there on the job overseeing the crew, another plus for me. We all know contractors that bring the crew out, drop them off and you don't see them again until it is time for the check. Would we used Bob again, absolutely YES John Pedretti
Description of Work: Remove and replaced the outer perimeter of brick on three sides of our patio that were loose, or coming loose that presented a safety issue.

Do you want someone who cares about your project as much as you do? Bob is a man of impeccable character. He is honest, hardworking, highly skilled, has a great rapport with everyone, works well with other contractors, is a super communicator who keeps your project going as speedily as he can, while always making sure the job is done absolutely topnotch. He already did work at a second property and did an outstanding job there as well, and neighbors involved in that project were also very, very pleased. We just can't recommend Bob and his crew highly enough. He's very helpful and thorough about going over project needs and gives terrific input and ideas on how to accomplish the project. They also clean up after they are done! We have had some nightmare experiences, and Bob restores your hope in mankind. He gets an A+ in every category.

Bob was very responsive, and easy to talk to from the beginning. I didn't bother getting any other bids because I felt very comfortable with him and trusted his information. We discussed what we wanted, and he offered his expertise advice, which then helped us to adjust our vision. He clearly laid out the cost of everything so we could prioritize. Throughout the entire process, he responded to phone calls immediately, kept me posted on what was happening, and followed through exactly how he said he would. The entire job took a total of 2 weeks from start to finish. His crew and the crew that he contracted for the woodwork were extremely professional, respectful, and efficient. It was completed sooner than we had anticipated, and looks great! I would highly recommend Bob Palacios to anyone.
Description of Work: Bob and his crew raised the level of my retaining wall, finished an unfinished portion, and removed 7 mature juniper trees. He also contracted with someone else to build a cedar fence to enclose the rest of my backyard and fix a gate.
