DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The service technician did not have the right part so he had to come back the following day. He made the repairs and said it was fixed, but after one load it did not work again. He also either lost some of the screws that attached the front to the sides or stripped the whole because he used duct tape to keep the part together....unbelievable! I called them on Sunday regarding the problem and they said they would have a service rep out on Monday. He never showed up. I stopped payment on the checks for the service and would NEVER use this company again.
Description of Work: Dryer did not heat.

(Also known as My Appliance Repair.com) If your appliance needs repair do not under any circumstances call this company. In particular do not allow the repair man named Mel touch your appliance. This man is completely incompetent and has no idea how to diagnose a problem or how to fix it. He orders parts that are not needed and plays games like plugging and unplugging your appliance and then declaring it is fixed. The company is a sham and cannot be trusted under any circumstances. Twice this Mel has caused us problems. First time 3 years ago he completely messed up the repair on our refrigerator and damaged our kitchen floor, and this time he completely misdiagnosed our washer and ordered parts we didn’t need. They charge for service calls that do not repair your appliance and take days to resolve the issue. They will not refund for the incompetence of their staff. If at all possible find someone else to fix your appliance we did.
Description of Work: Speed Queen washing machine was overflowing.

Terrible from the beginning. I had to show the repairman how to pull my dishwasher out. He proceeded to pull it out and kinked drainage hose when he put it back, so my dishwasher would no longer fully drain. I requested a return visit to repair the issue. I was advised by the repairman that I needed a new drain motor. He never checked for a kinked hose, nor did he check the part to see if that was the issue. I was quoted a repair price of over $300. I proceeded to order the part online for 1/5 of the price I was quoted. I replaced the part myself only to find out that there was nothing wrong with the original. I contacted Allen & Sons. They were extremely rude, placed me on hold for over 30 minutes, promised to call me back to deal with the issue, never called me back, and not at all helpful. I would never recommend this company to anyone..
Description of Work: I needed the door of my Maytag dishwasher adjusted.

I am an apartment owner, and was not onsite when the work was attempted. They failed to repair my stove and then I had to call several times to find out what happened. They would not allow me to speak to the repairman. I was told by an office person, not the repairman, that the stove needed a new thermostat. I called Antique Stove Heaven (310) 326-0030 who came out and fixed the stove on site without a new thermostat. I asked for a refund, and they referred it to "upper management". I received an email offering a future discount and that they would send a "senior technician" the next time. There will not be a next time for me.
Description of Work: Apparently nothing.

The repairman showed up very close to the correct time. He brought another person I thought maybe for training. I knew the problem was the Magnetron Tube and checked with a local supplier to see if the Tube was available, and it was. The technician looked into the cabinet and told me that I would have to take the Microwave (a built in) off the wall to replace the tube. The tube had been replaced before and it didn't need to be de-installed, I could see how to replace the tube from the front. He insisted that I needed to remove it. The price he gave me to R&R the oven and replace the tube was higher than buying a new microwave. I told him not to repair it. When I called the office to schedule the service I was told that it would be $65.00 to check the oven out and that would apply to the repair. The technician tried to get $75.00. His boss called several days later to ask if I was going to repair it, I said no I had ordered a new one. He then began a rant on how the old ones were so much better and I should have the old one fixed. By the way after I took down the old microwave it was obvious that the only way to get to the tube was from the front.

I knew what had happened to my oven, the heating element went out, so I went out and purchased the part. I called them to come install it. They came out and it only took them about 10 minutes to install the part and I was charged $200. When I protested this charge, I was told they charge this no matter if they are there on minute or an hour. I tried to call the owner because I felt this was completely unfair and the owner has never returned my call. I was also very concerned that the person who came out had alcohol on his breath.
Description of Work: My oven died during Thanksgiving dinner and I called them out to fix it.

even had to keep calling to find status of my order. 2 weeks later after many calls tech shows up to install part, but wrong part, and he wanted to reorder after coming out to install. Only took picture of fan. Order not placed for another 4 days. Finally company wants to send out another tech to trouble shoot problem, as they think it might be something else. After 3 weeks without a refrigerator I told them no Thanks, my refrigerator repair was not going to be a training experience for a tech who don't know their jobs. I even had to pay a deposit on work to be performed. This is the worst treatment that I have ever had with a service Co. Anyone using this company is a fool. They are a bunch of incompetents who don't know what the right hand is doing, and don't care about customer service..
Description of Work: Sent tech after 10 minutes said I needed fan motor, parts and labor $325. Agreed to repair 1 1/2 week goe by no response of order, called service Dept and said that they would have to call tech to find order. Response was tech was on a big repair and couldn't call to check status of parts. Parts Dept. doesn't even know who or where parts were ordered. i

I called the company because of a problem with the dishwasher. It was leaking from the release valve at the sink and water would flow on to the counter and then to the floor. When I called the company they told me that the minimum charge to come out was $65 but that it would be waived if I did the repairs. My appointment was between 9-12. At 12:00PM when no one had shown up, I called the company for status. They said the tech would be there in 20 minutes. The tech showed up at 1:30PM. The repair turned out to be a simple one and he was done in 15 minutes. He presented me with a $150 bill which he said was their minimum labor charge. I told him that no one had communicated this to me and that I would have to call the company. I explained the situation to the person I spoke to at their main number. She asked me if I had been presented with and signed an estimate prior to the technician completing the work. I had not. She told me I was only liable for the $65 service charge. I did not rate the quality of the repair because I need to wait a while and run the dishwasher a few times before I pronounce it to be fixed. I would not recommend this company or use them again in the future.

WARNING: This company is happy to take your money whether they fix your appliance or not. This company is listed as an authorized repair company for LG refrigerators but they can't fix LG refrigerators. They also canceled one of our several appointments over a three month time span because the technician said he needed a day off due to too much stress. After three months of trying to fix my refrigerator, they were not successful and wouldn't give a refund when I asked for one. The next repair appliance repairman who came out from a different company fixed the refrigerator.

Scheduling was good and they were very prompt. The first repair attempt was not successful but they came back, at an additional charge, to fix it again. For the second visit they brought the unit back with them to the shop to repair. It has been working fine since.

Andrew did what he promised to do in the time he promised to do it. He is a hard worker who is no nonsense yet personable. He not only diagnosed the problem with my dishwasher, he had it fixed within 24 hours. You have a loyal customer who gives you the highest recommendation possible. If needed again we will contact you first.

Service was prompt and professional. Matthew knew what he was doing, and explained options thoroughly. Had a tremendous amount of experience. Only problem was a delay in the part they had to order. Don't think it was their fault- repair done during Christmas/New Year holiday time. Perhaps could have phoned us sooner with an update as to when the part would be arriving.

He did the work quickly. He was honest and left my old pump here so I could see the problem. He gave suggestions on how to avoid problems in the future and how to maintain the washing machine. I have a front-loading washer and he suggested using a certain type of washer-cleaner every month. He also suggested using lingerie bags when washing smaller items to keep them from getting into the machine. The work came with a 5 year guarantee.

He is very good. I've used them maybe four or five times. In the one case we had a part which had to be ordered and they didn't charge anything extra. They give you a reasonable estimate of what they will do and that is exactly what they charge. They have a minimum charge of $60 and then generally any kind of repair that we have done has been under $150. Basically the $60 is part of the labor cost.

We had a good experience with Allen and Sons. The person at the call center helped us get a visit before they closed for Labor Day. The person they sent was considerate (he took off his shoes, which we always appreciate!) and informed. He identified the problem and fixed it for a fair price and in about 20 minutes. I was impressed that he had the part with him. They also provided a 30-day warranty for the work.

We purchased warranty insurance from A.J. Madison on a new washer and dryer less than 18 months ago. It was shipped and installed by them. A few months later we realized that we had not gotten dryer warranty insurance and called the seller again to get this taken care of. This past week the washer refused to empty or agitate so we called the number on the warranty insurance policy. Allen and Sons were dispatched to fix the washer (and the dryer at the same for it had stopped drying the laundry effectively several weeks ago). The driver could not find our location despite being less than 15' away from us (he was in the Verizon Phone store) and 5 phone calls. Walks into the rescue shop on Friday (8/23/13), does not even turn on the washing machine, pronounces it as a drain pump, takes photos and then looks at the dryer, saying that it was fine and we were simply overloading it. Advises me that it is probably not going to be covered under warranty because we are 'using it as a commercial enterprise', but they would call on Saturday by 11AM to let us know of their decision. They never called and we had to track them down for a decision. We learned that Allen and Sons cancelled the call because it was "too tight of an area to work in" (after taking a cell phone photo)- but apparently it was not too tight of an area for the washer to be unloaded, brought in and installed less than 18 months ago. Despite paying over $2,000 for a new set plus almost $500 for warranty insurance on both machines, now we are told the warranties are not valid. We bought the set and had it shipped directly to the rescue shop - from day one A.J. Madison knew we are a nonprofit dog rescue because they said they knocked off (??) the shipping from the purchase price because we are a 501c3 dog rescue! Obviously they reduced the price but then sold us warranty insurance they knew they would not honor... what a rip off! And then to contract to someone like Allen and Sons? Can you take a car into a mechanic with a strange noise and the mechanic diagnose the problem without turning on the car and listening to it? I have never known a mechanic to diagnose a car without turning it on, or a doctor to diagnose an illness with this extreme limited amount of information. I could tell from the moment this technician walked in, he was not going to honor the service call or repair our machines - IT WAS THAT OBVIOUS! I would never EVER recommend Allen and Sons to anyone for anything. What I should have done was video tape this service technician walking into the rescue shop, diagnosing a problem without turning the washer on like he video taped and photographed us! Now as I read some of the other views here on AngiesList, this is obviously standard protocol with Allen and Sons, gathering photographic evidence as to why they are not required to perform the service they are contracted for! How unethical - at least I will know the next time. And if this is the way A.J. Madison operates as well, it is sad it is such a way of operating... certainly not a professional way of retaining clients.

By the end of the day my washing machine was left in pieces on the floor of my garage-- after 5 hours of the service guy pounding inside it with a hammer.. he left to go order parts, which, as I discovered when the SEARS man I called to come see what he could do, informed me could not be done.. the machine was 18 years old and there are no longer parts to repair it. Never saw hide nor hair of the repairman who left parts all over the garage floor.. save yourself the headache and expense, calls SEARS, yes, I still had to pay.. My husband had partially paid the allen&sons serviceman the night before.. the company refused to refund the service charge fee....
Description of Work: Pretty much left a mess of washing machine parts for the SEARS Serviceman to pick up when he came to do the job they left undone.

If you have more money than brains, call these guys. They are total rip-off artists.
Description of Work: Walked in. Looked at the ice maker. Told me he had to replace the entire ice maker and wanted $160 for the ice maker and another $180 in labor. I told him to leave.

Disappointing! We just got back from vacation and have a broken dryer. This was the first Angie's List recommendation we have called and we appear to have been snubbed.
Description of Work: The provider would do nothing once we gave the receptionist our zip code. We were told even tho we are 500 ft from the border of where they will service, they were sorry but they will not come to "our area."

Missed first appointment & had to reschedule. Made credit card deposit$200 on two repair parts. Called 3 weeks later & Allen & Sons said parts just then came in. I asked for a refund on parts order and to cancel the job. They refunded but, in effect, kept $90 for two service calls, not $60 (45+15) I complained to owner and when I said I would report them to Angie's List, he said was like his 9 yr old daughter.
Description of Work: Estimate to repair 2 kitchen appliances in one service call. Quoted at $45 (1st appliance) & $15 (second appliance)

Same Day SVC was a very good experience. They were prompt and knowledgeable. For some reason the opener of the garage, the handheld was missing and he had one available in his truck. I have no complaints at all, it was a positive experience. I would use them again and I would recommend them.
